I want to take the time to thank all of you, who participate in the Tavern thread. If you're curious, you can always join, just please make sure not to upset the scenery too much. The Tavern is a friendly place, conflicts are not settled with weapons or destructive magic. If you want to have a fight, I beg you to please create your own thread outside of the tavern to handle your issues!
Thanks so much! And also, if you're planning to go on adventures with fellows, you can absolutely use the thread as starting off point. Thekla also has magical Hearthstones for patrons that are established; these Hearthstones can be used by patrons in a magical 10 minute ritual to transport yourself safely back to the Tavern. However, they probably don't function in Dungeons.
If you like RPing with somebody and want to go out on an adventure, you can always send a private message to that player, or ask in here. If you have a DM, and you click with each other, it's absolutely fine to use the Tavern thread as starting-off-point. However, running these games and secondary threads is really beyond my control. I have no moderation capabilities and issues with online availability, so you would have more luck finding a group, when you have a DM already.
To DMs, it's actually a good way to possibly advertise your game. If you're recruiting for an adventure, you can always do so with an NPC in the Tavern. No problem. It's totally fine, really.
You don't need to ask permission to join the game. I welcome your courtesy, but it's really no problem. Please be aware that there are REPERCUSSIONS in case you use violence inside the Tavern. It is protected by powerful magic that enacts swift retribution against any evildoers.
Feindbann Enchantment
Whenever a creature* deals damage to someone within the zone, the spell triggers and instantly deals radiant damage equal to the amount inflicted to the attacker. They are knocked prone, are restrained by chains of pure light and are incapacitated, unless they make a DC 20 Wisdom saving throw, which reduces the damage in half and inflicts no conditions on the attacker. The target is now marked forever onward, and will be barred from entering the zone again, unless invited by a Michtim of the tavern's staff.
Should the triggering creature remain inside the zone while not being restrained, the enchantment triggers again and will try to inflict the conditions and damage again, unless a DC 20 Wisdom save is made. In this case, only half the damage is sustained.
*) The Michtims that can invite others back in are exempt from the spell.
Yeah, I kinda waited after moonlightwolfgaming's last post, and then nothing happened, so I spent thirty minutes figuring out what I could say that had a decent chance of getting the conversation back up.
That's basically my whole experience. Everyone is talking when i'm not online. But once i'm back online it dies. RIP me.

Scarlet is a red haired wood elf. She is wearing a semi-formal red dress and her green cloak with silver lining. She has a beat up old scimitar at her side. She has dark green eyes and a feather in her hair. Her skin is well tanned.
I'm still getting used to navigating this site. I didn't even know an OOC thread existed for The Tavern. I'm glad it is though, because I wanted to say I was really enjoying the light hearted RP. There's nothing for me to post at them moment, because Archibald is taking a bath, but still. He's a challenging character to RP. I try to make him interesting yet still off-putting with a certain pitiable charm. Think "nice gollum" without such a shady past. He's just seen things he can't unsee.
So, I hope he's been fun to RP off of.
Anyway... I just wanted you to know I haven't vanished from the game. I'm just sort of waiting for an appropriate amount of IC time to pass before it would make sense that he could come down dressed enough for public forum.
So i'm not really sure if this is the best place to post this but i'm going to try and DM for the first time. Do any of you guys got any tips?

PbP, streaming, or meatspace? Because the tips I can offer are different for each. But I've been DM'ing campaigns for over 10 years, and I've learned a few tricks that apply to all.
Establish your play type. Are you rules heavy, or rules light? Do you run linear campaigns, choose-your-adventure style open play, or sandboxes? Do you prefer low-op, or high-op? What kind of settings do you prefer to run? Be honest with yourself about what you prefer to run, and be honest and up front with your players what you are running. Some players may not join your campaign if they disagree with your play style, but at least they won't be there to be a disruptive force for those who do.
Never give up. A player can miss a session, but you can't. The game doesn't continue if you don't play. Show up early. Be prepared. Keep running the game, even if it isn't always convenient. Everyone is counting on you, and they will respect you if you can be counted on, even if your sessions aren't always great.
Adjudicate fairly and consistently. Keep notes of your judgments on results, and don't let that waver from session to session or player to player, because it will seem like you are showing favoritism, taking away player agency, or using plot armor. Players want to feel like they are in control of the destinies of their characters, even if their character dies because of it. Let them have that feeling. It's fundamental to roleplaying.
Don't get involved in an arms race against a player. The DM always wins an arms race against the players, so this is stupid. If a character is imbalanced or behaving badly in the game, talk to the player about it out of content. Don't just throw challenges at them until the character dies or the player quits, because it will seem passive aggressive and make things awkward between you and all your players.
Seek and accept criticism and feedback from your players. It's not just your game. You're just the DM. Stay humble and learn from your players. By cultivating an experience everyone can enjoy, player retention will be stronger, and games will remain more focused and immersive.

Well... it's not my tavern (so you can take my statement with a grain of salt), but freeform games usually aren't limited by level. Some aren't even limited by game system. Emphasis is on RP, not stats. So you can play what you like. Most freeform RPs frown on (or strictly forbid) combat, so most of your abilities in 5E won't even come up.
I generally use freeform RPPbPs to polish the rougher edges in challenging RP concepts. For instance, my current character is Archibald Thwipp. He's made a discovery that's left him completely insane. When he is calm, he can sometimes focus his thoughts well enough to communicate, but his social skills are barely above that of a domesticated animal in regards to level of sophistication. So, people either attack him, or avoid him altogether. I've been working on the balance of making him crazy enough to be off putting, but compelling enough for other adventurers to want to try to interact with.
I doubt most people would mind sharing their character sheets here, but DnD Beyond doesn't allow for that yet. There are talks of creating a read only version of the character sheet. However, in the meantime, I recommend you just start introducing your character to anyone else who is posting and see what happens. Some of them will be up for a chat; others may not be so open to the idea.
For Scarlet the fact that she has level 2 spells is impressive. Depending on the person she might want to try and prove her dominance. She often feels like she is superior to most people. If she sees you as an equal that shows that she has some respect for you.

From what I've seen in signatures, people are all over the spectrum of levels. My character, for example (Cloud), is actually a retired high level PC who I'm now using as an NPC. But in regard to spells, I don't think anyone's going to say "hey, that spell isn't your level!" if you do one for RP purposes. This is all for fun, after all.
I think it's all okay, as long as people don't invade other people's concepts and space. Like, it's not okay to make decisions for other player characters and affect them against their consent. Regarding power level, it's usually not much of a deal here, it's a socializing thread, so that's intentionally vague; just "don't be a dick" is my premise.
Regarding weird situations. I reestablished my monk character to get in line with my actual monk PC. Previously, I thought I'd play a Shadow Monk (Dusk), but now I'm the polar opposite (a Light, Healing Wind, Peaceful "Tranquility" Monk, called Dawnpaw). It's explained as him swapping between the states every now and then. If you know American Gods, it's similar to Cernabog. Just; Dusk isn't really an evil character. He's just shadow themed.

So, is there a way to look up who the other characters are? i.e. Character sheet or at least race, class... or is this done just through RP Dialogue?
Are we all lvl 1 characters or is this a mix?
