Ben’s Persuasion:  15

(I'll keep the eldritch blast roll, but redirect it towards the brigands near Ben)

Titaani conjures a pulsing ball of purple energy, and, not seeing the harengon leader standing right in front of her, fires it right past Longscarf's head at the brigand behind him. She hits him; he falls flat on his back, knocked out. (Ben's attempt to persuade is now moot.)

Matilda is up next. All of the brigands are defeated except Longscarf himself; she can see him clearly about 40 feet away. (However, more brigands sound like their way...)

Ben:

”Or not,” says Ben after his attempt to win the hearts of Longscarf’s underlings fails.  Still, though, if they can avoid actually killing anyone…With little time to spare, Ben looks pleadingly at Matilda and turns to face the callous knave of a brigand leader before him.

Matilda was quite pleased at not having to stab anyone so far and, nodding to Ben, charged through the water towards Longscarf......

( Dash Action gets her there but all she can do is glare at him.)

Matilda sloshes through the swampy waters to the edge of the causeway, then clambers up on it, right next to Longscarf.

The second skiff arrives, drifting out from under a nearby causeway, and three more brigands spring out and race forward.
A second sniper remains in the boat and takes a shot at Ben:
Light Crossbow Attack: 8   Hit: 6 piercing damage.
Stealth to subsequently hide under the causeway: 6 

Horatio, Ben, and Cad may act next.

Ben:

"Thank Sune for that shield!" thinks Ben.  Ignoring the new arrivals for now, he concentrates on hitting that spiteful brigand leader with the pommel of the tiny magic sword, hoping to knock him out and put an end to this bruhaha.  

Attack to subdue with the magic sword:  25

If it hits:

A flash of brilliant light erupts from Ben's tiny sword as he whacks Longscarf across the temple with it.

"Ow! Owwwwww!" he shrieks, holding his hand to his head. "What did you do THAT for? You can just surrender, you know!" He looks shocked and angry, and rather badly wounded. 

Horatio and Cad may act next. Cad cannot see Longscarf (but can hear him - still at disadvantage, though.) They both can see the new sniper, whose doing a rather mediocre job of hiding. And they both can see the three new club-wielding harengon goons rushing Ben and Matilda. 

Cadwallader:

With everyone else on the walkways Cad figures he’s the best situated to take out that sniper before he injured someone. 
Ray of Frost25 for 8 cold, and speed is reduced by 10’

”Surrender — yes, that’s good advice. You should do that and we’ll let you fish your friends out before they drown!”

The sniper stiffens like a board and collapses into his skiff, pale and unconscious (crit damage not even necessary to roll.)

Horatio, wading in the water next to the other skiff, is up next! (He's about 15' from a fully-visible Longscarf and two of his brigands. Even with the difficult terrain and climbing onto the causeway, he can just reach any of them in one movement without dashing.)

Horatio:

Now closer to Longscarf, Horatio wades through the swamp directly for him, cracking his knuckles as he does. "Hey, hop-a-long! You're nothing but a bully and a coward, and Ben's right, you don't even care about your own friends!" 

Attack 1: 22 to hit, 9
Attack 2: 13 to hit, 10

Horatio hops up on the causeway, fists flying. Longscarf easily dodges Horatio's wild swings.

"Ha!" laughs Longscarf. "I'm far too fast for you. You might as well give up now!"

He swings his white-hot brand at both Ben and Horatio:
Branding Iron Attack #1 vs. Ben: 22   Hit: 10 fire damage
Branding Iron Attack #2 vs. Horatio: 16   Hit: 9 fire damage

Both Ben and Horatio painfully experience the searing burn of the magical brand. Longscarf suddenly disappears from view from both. (Only Matilda can see him now!) With a chuckle, Longscarf slides Horatio's tinderbox into his voluminous pocket.

Titaani and Matilda may act next.

Titaani scowls in the general direction of where she thinks Longscarf is. 

"This isn't a fair fight!" She declares, summoning flickering purple magic in her hands. "Stop cheating, will you?"

(With those words she casts faerie fire, and Longscarf has to make a dexterity saving throw, our else he's going to be outlined in violet light.)

Longscarf DC13 Dex roll vs. Fairie Fire: 13

...and barely dodges out of the way in time. "No, no! No spells!" he admonishes. Matilda is up next!

Matilda looks at Longscarf.....looks at Ben....and then slaps the side of her head and runs off to pull the drowning rabbit out from under the water.

Medicine: 13

Matilda scrambles over to pull the drowning harengon out of the bog. He takes advantage of Matilda's distraction to try to score his last brand. (Opportunity attack)
Branding Iron Attack vs Matilda: 20   Hit: 10 fire damage

Meanwhile, the newly arrived brigands begin their assault.

Brigand #1 Club Attack vs Cad: 8 Hit: 5 bludgeoning damage.
Brigand #2 Club Attack vs Ben: 15 Hit: 6 bludgeoning damage.
Brigand #3 Sling Attack vs. Cad:18  Hit:7 bludgeoning damage.

Horatio, Ben, and Cad may act next!

(Edit to last post: those attacks to "Cad" were actually directed at Horatio. Sorry!)

Matilda goes down, a searing brand between her shoulder blades, before she is even able to reach the drowning harengon.

Ben:

Yelling in frustration, Ben lashes out at the elusive and invisible rabbit foe, trying to focus in on the source of the attack that just felled his friend.

Smite with hilt of the magical tiny sword against invisible foe:  Attack: 11 Damage: 10

Cadwallader:

Reeling from the brute's blow, barely conscious, Cad makes one last desperate attempt to hit the hated Longscarf.
Ray of Frost: 12 for 4 cold

He retreats 30' back down the causeway.
