A magical object, a great Sphere, a god - the Traveler - appears in the skies beyond Toril and transforms all the Realmspace, eventually settling to rest above Faerun. Strange energies emerge and filter across the globe as diseases end, civilzations advance and new frontiers open. Great cities rise towards the heavens where once mere towns rotted along pitiful roads. The very stars of Realmspace fell within the reach of the Traveler's chosen world as people of all kinds went gladly into the unknown, safe in the knowledge of their overwhelming power to change whatever worlds they set their feet upon.
Then the Darkness came. The war was apocalyptic, as the servants of the Darkness sought to end all who treasured the Light. Mighty heroes wrought great destruction against the enemy all across the heavens, forever warping the Realmspace with their power.
Still, in the last, they failed. The Darkness struck a mortal blow to the Traveler, shattering its vessel and crippling it. With its last breath, the Traveler surged with power and drove back the Darkness, calling its children into being - tiny motes of light, brimming with potential, designed to make, or rather find, heroes of Toril's past who would serve as protectors while it lies wounded above the world: to find Guardians of the Light.
Now, the world is fraught with darkness, for the Darkness has won a mighty victory. Dispelled from the world, its servants and warriors settle into their newfound fastnesses, reveling in the spoils of a fallen world. Only you have now been born again in Light. Reclaim this world, in the name of the Traveler, in the name of the Light.
Greetings all! A longtime Destiny fan over here, and though I've seen (and played) in some attempts to merge a ttrpg with Destiny, I noticed that nobody yet has attempted a crossover with dnd in flavor as well as mechanics, let alone as a play by post, so I'd like to give it a shot. If you are interested as well in a somewhat fantasized version of Bungie's Destiny rendered into dnd game, drop an application below and let's get started.
Your character will be a Guardian, one reborn by the power of the Light with no memories of his or her past life through the intervention of a Ghost - a tiny manifestation of the Traveler's power. Your Ghost has the power to resurrect you from death, unless some particular force of Darkness impedes. As a Guardian, the Light flows through you, a rechargeable resource that functions rather similarly to Spell Slots from a mechanical perspective, spending one or a few points to achieve some effect, but entirely separate from dnd's magic system. Your Light will provide you with powers that will grow as you use them and push back the servants of the Darkness, reclaiming territory lost to the enemy and secrets hidden away during the fall. We will still use normal character leveling and abilities to represent the powers and potential innate to your character apart from the Light.
To apply, please make a level 1 character, rolling for stats (always reroll 1s) with all WotC published content accepted. Provide your race, class, background and alignment. No backstory is needed, but you will need to provide a starting point on a continental map of Faerun, and for first place consideration please also link a useful wiki article about that location for me to review as I consider your character. We will discuss how the Light Powers work in a session 0 thread once I have the group formed - likely to work like spell slots, as mentioned before. Remember, the idea is that the Traveler showed up to Toril and changed it, so a lot of the setting still exists, just with a different flavor to it. Lastly,
Naturally, those familiar with the game and setting will have a certain advantage in imagining how the world will work, what enemies one might encounter, and perhaps even some fun lore references to the game. There is no requirement to be familiar with the game at all, though I think it would likely be helpful in the process of character creation and selection. Again, this is not "Destiny with 5e mechanics," this is "Dungeons and Dragons, but where some of Destiny's major plot events happen and change the setting."
I think at this point, I've said my piece. There are a few concept art pics below to spur the imagination, and I leave the rest to you, O reader. I thank you for your time.
I played several hours of Destiny, expecting it to make sense at some point and it never presented half as well as you just did in a few paragraphs. Nicely done.

Shyne-3 is from Mount Halrua in the nation of Halrua.
Shyne-3's original identity is gone, not a shred of memory remains. What he knows is that one of the wizards of this great, and learned nation of arcanists had attempted to save the life of someone dear to him through an attempt to capture the friend's soul, and inserting it into an artificial corporeal existence. This was not an easy task, and has been fraught with difficulties. When the wizard in question realized that he had both succeeded in preserving life, and failed in retaining any memory of his life, he abandoned Shyne-3.
Shyne-3 has taken up the studies of his people (such as they are) with gusto, in particular as it relates to study of the Light and the Traveler.
And upon receiving the ghost that would change his life forever, Shyne has taken to preparing himself for battle. He knows the gifts he has received can only be a sign of need for his skills. He will pursue this battle into his dying breath, and beyond.

As a question: How much post-frequency would you expect?
Three or so times a week should suffice - ideally more if there is combat or rp going on, but hey, life happens. I am envisioning that, after an initial period in the campaign, the game style will shift towards the party going after particular missions launching from a home base with downtime to improve gear, train, rest or whatever else needs to happen.
Name: Histaban the Cryptarch Race: Goliath Class: Artificer Background: Guild Artisan - Creating weapons for the paladins at Fort Morninglord Alignment: Lawful Good Location: The encampment near Fort Morninglord. https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Fort_Morninglord Ability Scores: Ability scores: 131315141410
Potential Backstory: Histaban was resurrected by Casper, his ghost. In the unfamiliar world, with no memory or reference point, Histaban found solace in the relics of the past, the engrams. His work with them earned him a place among the Guardians near Fort Morninglord, where he studied under the Head Cryptarch there. He has learned how to imbue small items with Light. He hopes to expand his knowledge and skill to aid all who face the terrors of this dangerous world.
Anyone have a good link for the Destiny game backdrop as a RPG campaign ?
There are fairly enjoyable lore channels on the game's world - this one is pretty great, most of the time. This particular episode is fairly old (and it shows) but gives a good backdrop sort of thing without being, you know, 3 hours long. This one is just six or so minutes, so it's a good beginning.

Nice! At this point I don't think the Cryptarchs are a thing, as such - you all would be some of the early, if not first, round of people to be resurrected by the light. If somebody needs to found the cryptarchy, though...

Oh, neat starting location - we might need to do a followup discussion on Warforged, though. How close are the warforged to the Exo in terms of lore? Do we want to make up something wholly new, or not? Would the nomenclature of name-number still be representative of personality/memory resets, as per Bungie's lore if I recall correctly? thoughts?

In Faerun - No
Not familiary with Destiny.
I can leave that open if it fits the adventure better, or come up with a starting location and a reason he's there.
