Nicolas de Brézé (Assarion)
Assarion takes a deep breath, and as he exhales, his posture relaxes - though his guard never drops. "Keep in mind," he says softly, "That the message was written in Infernal. We may find this monster to be quite agreeable." Still, his guard never drops. He begins slowly, careful, to step forward. He moves quietly (Stealth: 24), but never hides, trying as well as he can to be the first line of defense.

"An interesting notion, Assarion." says Bombil. He takes fleece out of his component pouch and waves it to create an illusion of a 5ft tall pile of rubble laid against the wall of the tunnel that he steps behind. "If you'd like, I could create a bonfire to guard one of your flanks if you'll be standing there in the open."
Assarion cocks his head slightly. "A bonfire," he repeats pensively. "Not here, Master Bombil," he decides. "If we truly cannot let these creatures out, it..." He stops abruptly, then changes what he was going to say. "What course of action would be best, comrades?" He pauses again. "While you consider this, perhaps now someone might se if we can close this door by moving the torch again?"
"I don't think we should judge people by the languages we know," Tagreth replies to Assarion. "Just because someone has learnt such a language as Infernal, it does not mean they are in allegiance with devils."

"Tagreth does have a point that one's tongue does not set in stone one's allegiance." says Bombil in Goblin before repeating it in Common. "But if we're back to speculation about the nature of the message's writer, then perhaps it would be time to announce our presence and gain some more concrete experience. Put to test, as it were, the heart of our unknown mystery person. As per Thorin something is coming our way. If it is hostile and ordered towards evil, then we are ready and have the numbers. Though I have not seen your skills in action personally, gentlemen, I have the utmost confidence that you are more than capable." He pauses for a moment to renew the illusion of rubble in front of him, "If what comes our way is a friend, then it would behoove us to get a better lay of the land and what lies ahead. Perhaps they will have a better knowledge of these unknown monsters."
He looks to the blood and torch for a moment before turning to Assarion, "I'm no expert on matters like this. But if whatever door was keeping the monster was able to lifted by nothing more than the lift of a torch, might the vault's contents already be loose?"
He mutters under in his breath in Celestial, "Gods preserve us."
Thinking of the conversation regarding infernal realizes some who worship Clangedin as inquisitors do in fact speak infernal, but now is not the time for apologies as Bombil so eloquently stated we must be ready for what comes.
As the group prepared for what was approaching and trying to figure what the best course of action to take was, the sound got closer and after a short period of time a man could be seen. He looked to be in his late thirties and looked as though he had seen better days, his clothes were torn and bloody and there were five sets of claw marks that were pretty deep and two noticable bites that didn't look pleasant at all. Initially he didn't see Thorin, Assarion or the others just yet but he did notice the 'rubble' near the tunnel wall and darted towards it seemingly without much thought he paused for a moment and looked around, cursing under his breath as he did so.
"That wasn't there earlier. Did someone follow me down... what am I doing? Those things can't be that far behind and here I am talking to myself." He mumbled to himself before shaking his head slightly and glanced behind him trying to see if his attackers were still behind him.

Assarion (Nicolas de Brézé)
Before the man can reach the rubble - and discover it to be an illusion - Assarion steps forward to challenge him. "Hold," he commands, leveling his sword with the man's heart. "Identify yourself, creature." The swordsman doesn't trust anything down here. (Insight: 13)
Bombil uses his limited telepathy, ((Thanks.)) he says to Assarion. He then looks at the man, gauging him. He tries to see if the man fits the description of either Victor Lowclaw or Xavword Stoneclaw. Perception: 8
In regards to the wounds, Bombil sympathetically grimaces at the nastiness of the slashes and bites. He grabs the small spirits bottle from his component pouch, readying to cast False Life on the man if it seems necessary. Though not a curative spell, it would give the man some more breathing room further combat was to come on their heels.
[[ OOC: Could I use the limited telepathy for a help action with Assarion's question? Something like a telepathic "It's important to answer the man's question." ]]

The man takes a small step back as Assarion lifted his sword towards his heart. He glanced down at the blade and then towards Assarion with a fearfully expression. "Identify myself? Uhh... my name is Victor... Victor Shadowward." He said quickly glancing over his shoulder before turning his attention back to the blade.
{With an 11 Assarion can tell that the man seems genuinely terrified, not only by the sword pointed at him but also because of the fact that whatever attacked him was still likely following after him. When he introduced himself it seems like he might have been lying about his name.}
Bombil uses his limited telepathy, ((Thanks.)) he says to Assarion. He then looks at the man, gauging him. He tries to see if the man fits the description of either Victor Lowclaw or Xavword Stoneclaw. Perception: 8

The man shifted his weight slightly and glanced towards the wall for a moment. "Did one of you mess with the torch there or was it moved when that fell? Either way... thanks for saving me, I'd been trapped down in a hidden tunnel for two days and was doing my best to keep those horrid creatures off my trail although as you can probably see that they caught up with me before I could get to the entrance of the tunnel." He said before motioning towards the 'rubble' still somewhat unaware of the fact that it was an illusion.

{With a 10 Kaliden can see that the bites are rather similar to the dismembered arm but his are deeper in comparison. Although his injuries look rather deep he seems to still be in somewhat decent shape.}
Thorin will wait to see who the attackers are before revealing himself
As one of the creatures moved closer it is illuminated by the purple light from the torches further down the tunnel. With the light of the torches it is revealed to be a wounded ghast. There is movement behind it but it's not close enough to fully make out but it could be an uninjured ghast.
Loaded and ready Kaliden pulls the trigger on his heavy crossbow aiming at the injured ghast just as he notices the second ghast, throwing off his aim, his bolt sparks off the tunnel wall completely missing both targets, he then recites divine favor lowers his crossbow in preparation of drawing his battle axe.
Bombil scrunches his nose at displeasure when the man says his last name is Shadowward. Between the semblance of matching Lowclaw's description, sharing the same first name, and that pause, he doesn't have a good feel there. ((Tell the truth.)) he telepathically says to the man, hoping to aid Assarion's questioning.
Upon seeing the ghasts at the end of the hall he puts the spirits bottle bag in his component pouch, sets his broom to the floor, and prepares for a fight.
[[OOC: Looks like the others are giving actions with initiative, so I'll follow.]]
Bombil speaks a command word to his broom and it hovers up to meet him. He gets up ~15 ft in the air and takes aim at the wounded ghast. He draws back a hand, utters a magical invocation, and sends a bolt of firing hurtling towards it.
