You stand at the entrance to The Melted Muse, Velnoya's famed fondue pub (known far and wide for its massive cauldron of piping hot cheese, larger than an ancient dragon) the sound of merriment floating through the emerald green doors, which have been thrown open in the spirit of hospitality, filling the street with the alluring smell of freshly melted cheese. Towering over this tavern is the town's most pristine building, a record hall known as the Scholarium, its glass-domed roof glimmering in the sunlight. Even here on the highest hill in town, the fog weakly clings around your ankles before cascading own the cobblestone streets and flooding the stonework houses below as it billows into the valley. You can barely make out the tops of the tallest conifers, defiantly tower above the ethereal sea of fog, standing boldly against the line of mountains behind. Jagged peaks jut into the sky like fingers reaching for the clouds, giving you the impression that this town is nothing more than a small object held in the palms of two mountainous hands.
Your survey of the fog-painted valley and the picturesque alpine town is interrupted as the wind chime cart across the way erupts in a deafening din as wood, metal and glass ring out in alarm. You spin around, half expecting to see a clumsy tourist who has toppled into the chime display, but instead see nothing more than a confused shopkeep, a freckled gnome with olive skin gazing at her wares with a perplexed expression on her face. As you begin to put two and two together, you feel it. The ground begins to shudder beneath your feet and with a stomach-turning groan you start to see the beginnings of a crack form between the cobblestones neatly aligned ahead of you...
(Go ahead and introduce your character and rp it out a bit if you like! Feel free to roll a perception check too if you want a better look maybe at what's going on!)
Athyra had been casually walking down the cobblestone street when the ground started shaking. When the cracks appear between her feet, she quickly jumps to the side. "Well, this is exciting," she thinks to herself as she looks at the widening cracks. She almost smiles before realizing the seriousness of the situation. She jerks her gaze away from the ground, and tries to take in her surroundings.
Etrigan had barely arrived in Velnoya, but after uncountable years of service to his demonic master he had finally some vacation coming and he had planned for many years that this was the place he would go. When in his natural form, like now, most mistook him for a tiefling, which was just as good as that breed seemed to have been accepted into the world of man. Etrigan was not large and imposing, but many could find the red glaring eyes a bit unsettling. His skin is azure with pointed ears and two small horns on his bald head. He wears an exquisite dark blue mantle over his his dark leathery wings, neatly folded on his back, and purple three piece suit, carrying a black backpack, supposedly with what you need for a vacation. On his shoulder sits Zazs, his longtime demonic companion, invisible to the eye, yawning after the long journey here.
As Etrigan admires the amazing scenery and breathes in the refreshing mountain air, looking forward to some days of pure bliss, the rumbling starts and for a brief moment he considers if this could be his masters way of saying that his vacation has been revoked. To avoid falling into the abyss that could open up under his feet at any moment the demon unfolds his wings and takes to the air, quickly surveying the surroundings for any threats. "Time to work Zasz." He mutters to the quasit on his shoulder as the picturesque scenery turns into chaos worthy of his master.
Athyra remains on the cobbled street, trying to figure out what she should do. She stands with her feet apart and knees slightly bent, ready to spring into action. Her white hair is pulled back in a loose braid, which seems to float slightly. As her adrenaline rises, her hair looks as if it is being blown around by an invisible, yet violent wind. Her piercing electric blue eyes catch sight of the winged tiefling. She’s curious. She’s never seen a winged tiefling before. She wipes a hand across the pale, silvery blue skin of her forehead, attempting to tuck some loose strands of hair behind her ear. Ripping her gaze away from the airborne figure, she tries to focus on the issue at hand.

For just a moment, Rohesia is a bit confused from feeling the ground shifting beneath her. But she takes a moment to collect herself and look around. Noting the crack forming, she thinks it better to move slow and deliberately, rather than risk tripping. She steps away from both the building and the crack. (Perception: 22)
Rohesia appears to be a young human woman. Her dark brown eyes are very similar in color to her long, very dark brown hair. It is pulled back into a single ponytail which hangs down past her shoulders. With lightly tanned skin, she seems a little out of place in this colder climate. She wears a heavy brown woolen cloak with a cream-colored sweater beneath. She seems to be carrying very little, though she is holding a pack at her side.
She casts another look at the building nearby, fearing she might be at risk of being in the midst of a stampede should the building become damaged. With measured steps she continues moving away.
Carried by his bat-like leathery wings, Etrigan notices the two women on the cobbelstone street below him, readying himself to swoop down and catch them if any of them should fall into the chasms that most likely will open up under them at any moment. He wasn't particularly concerned with mere mortals in general, but they had provided him with pleasant company in the past and seemed to be grateful when offered help.
The Melted Muse looked like a suitable place to rest for a day or two. Daj had been travelling for a week since his last major rest. Having some time to recover, stretch a little and catch up with the local clergy would be useful. The tabard over the loxodon's chainmail was emblazoned with an eye staring from an upright fist. The symbol of Helm was well known to any who saw it, even if the clothes that is on could use a decent wash. At his side hung a warhammer that appeared to be made out of copper, with fine etchings along its shaft and a tightly wrapped red leather grip. It hung at Daj's side as if it couldn't belong anywhere else.
Daj had just stabled his horse when the ground seemed to slip beneath his feet. The loxodon reached out and grabbed the doorway, uncertain exactly of what was happening. A nearby gnome also seemed confused. "Are you ok?"Daj asked moving to help the gnome back to its feet. As he did so he noticed a shuddering coming through the floor and cracks beginning to form. Grabbing the gnome, Daj pulled her toward the doorway, hoping that the structure would give them some protection.
Rohesia, your keen eye manages to notice a few things: 1) the the large wooden sign that says "The Melted Muse: We're Fonduein' It!" is rattling and almost about to collapse on an oblivious tourist; 2) A number of fireguards trying to direct people away from the buildings, which are rapidly shedding slate shingles; 3) the glass domed roof of the Scholarium opens, releasing anornate magenta and gold gilded zeppelin into the air, the word "Imperius" emblazoned on the side, but it's soon struck by a falling tree, limiting its flight.
The earthquake, however, is causing issues all over town:
- Rohesia, there is wandering toddler whose mother is pleading to be reunited with her on the opposite side of a 10ft crevasse (you are on the side with the mother)
- Etrigan, you see a tiefling woman with bleary eyes desperately waving in your direction, both of her arms laden with birdcages, "My babies, my babies are still in there!" she screams, pointing to a large aviary built into the side of a nearby building, where three fuchsia parrots flit around, free of their cages.
- Athyra, you see an earth elemental caught gliding between two suddenly shifting portions of the ground. Somewhat panicked, it lashes out at the first thing it sees: a goat.
- Daj, you see a towering conifer lurching forward threatening to crush a stable of ponies beneath it. A single groom struggles with a stubborn shire named Tubbs, tears rolling down his cheeks in exasperation.
Help or not, you have only a minute or two before the situations get even worse!
Seeing the tiefling woman's desperate plea, Etrigan hesitates for a moment, not a great lover of birds himself, or any animals for that matter, but his immense experience tells him that even though he is certainly not a compassionate demon, if there ever was such a thing, helping others with no cost, indebting them with gratitude, was often a rational choice, so the demon nods quickly at the tiefling ornithologist and dives down to the large aviary, trying to find a way to swiftly free her beloved parrots.

A tourist in harm's way and a toddler separated from her mother. She moves to action without hardly thinking. Running at the tourist, she simply lowers her shoulder, pushes them out of the way, and then keeps on moving. (Athletics: 25) She will then make a running jump across the crevasse, heading over to the child. She quickly kneels down, "Let's get you back your mother," she says, in what she hopes is a friendly voice.
She then picks up the child, intending to carry her back across the gap to her mother.
Seeing the Elemental, Athyra rushes towards it waving her arms. Though she doesn't go close enough to be within it's reach. "Hey now! No need to destroy everything! And leave that poor goat alone. It's not the one causing this mess!"She hopes she can reason with the elemental, maybe it has something to do with this earthquake. "Calm down please!"
"Get out of there, quick," Daj yells, waving his hands at the groom as he runs toward the stables. "The tree". As the groom struggles with the pony, Daj attempts to rip open the doors and clear the way for the groom to get out. (Athletics 18)
Etrigan: The birds are very worked up and clearly panicked about something as the structure seems in dire straits. They're going to need some convincing in order to leave. (make an animal handling check)
Rohesia: The toddler is screaming in panic now, as the crevasse continues to spread. The mother is watching you with fearful hope! (make another athletics check at disadvantage, because anyone who has tried to wrangle a toddler knows how difficult it can be!)
Athyra: You get the elemental's attention all right! But now it turns its attention from the poor goat to you, and it still doesn't look very happy... (you can try to persuade again or do something else!)
Daj: The doors are not too hard to open, but the pony is absolutely refusing to budge and the groom looks even more exasperated as he pleads desperately for the creature to move with him... (perhaps you can help the horse with an animal handling check?)

Rohesia sighs, having hoped the child might be a bit calmer. But given the chaos all around, it probably was to be expected. "Hey little one, I'll have you back to your mother in no time," she says, again trying to be reassuring. Keeping a tight hold on the child, she makes a running start and again leaps over the growing chasm. (Athletics: 16)
"Hey, Hey! I'm not gonna do anything to you, as long as you don't do anything to me,"Athyra puts her hands out in front of her in a not threatening way, but stays ready to move in case the elemental decides to attack her. "Now please don't go destroying anything. At least not in town. If you want to got to some uncivilized area out in the wilderness that's fine i guess. But not here!"
Daj: The doors are not too hard to open, but the pony is absolutely refusing to budge and the groom looks even more exasperated as he pleads desperately for the creature to move with him...
Daj whips the doors open but the groom continues to struggle with the pony. Quickly, Daj grabs for the rope and gives the pony a quick jerk to get its attention. Speaking in a firm but calm voice he says "Listen here, you and I, we are walking out that door. After that, you can do whatever you like. But right now you will listen to me." Shortening his grip on the rope, he tugs the pony in the right direction and tries to lead it out of the stable.
Etrigan: The birds finally notice your efforts and flap their way out of the crumbling aviary, but oddly enough not to the lady, choosing instead to circle the town in a close loop. The lady sighs but expresses her gratitude regardless and walks off still calling at her birds.
Rohesia: Unfortunately, the crevasse shifts some more as you attempt to jump back over, making you land down on a ledge on the side of the split earth, still barely clutching the screaming little one. It takes some effort from here, but soon you are able to pass the child up to its mother and pull yourself out of the crevasse, thankfully none the worse for the wear.
Athyra: The elemental gets frighteningly close for a moment, its expression nearly unreadable as rock, before suddenly turning away and sinking back into a hole in the ground, leaving nothing but dust in its wake.
Ddaj: The pony finally relents as the stable begins to collapse around you, making a break for the door with you and the groom, barely escaping certain doom. The groom is exceedingly thankful and promises to return the favor if possible at some point in the future, as he continues to try and console and soothe the pony.
Chaos continues to unfold around you even as the tremors begin to subside. Screams emanate from within the Melted Muse, and you watch as the massive cauldron that holds an untold tonnage of melted cheese topples off the woodfire stove that keeps it bubbling. The hot gooey cheese rush toward you, a wave of fontina and gruyere gushing forward at breakneck speed. Fallen buildings and debris block your path on either side as the gloppy, scalding cheese surges closer. It looks like your only options are to jump off the cliff behind you or conjure a colossal baguette! Suddenly, a rope appears, dangling just about 5 ft above you. A mousey-looking halfing woman shouts down at you from a low-flying zeppelin. "The Imperius can't fly far, but she's safer than a hot cheese bath! Hurry climb aboard!"

"Don't mention it." Etrigan mutters as the parrots flutter away through the imploding picturesque winter resort. "No, not the fondue." He growls resignedly, realizing the pièce de résistance of Velnoyas cousine was loose and currently threatened to engulf the three people still on the collapsing cobblestone square below. As the demon notices the peculiar flying vehicle descendeing from the sky, offering help through a rope, he swoops down, carried by his leathery wings, hoping to assist anyone not able to catch the rope.
"Well, that was easy." Athyra says to herself. However, her pride melts away as she notices the cheese rushing towards her. "Now this is something I never thought I'd see. Nor thought about seeing for that matter." When the halfling woman tosses the rope down, Athyra jumps for it.
