Recruiting 5-6 players for an RP heavy mystery game about clerics. Experienced 5e DM. This will hopefully be the first of several games that focuses on just one character class. All PCs can choose any class for their first two levels, but must choose Cleric for the third level and continue with that throughout the game, which will probably end around 7th level. Of course, if the entire mystery is solved quickly, then it could wrap up much sooner. This is an experiment. I will be using the "Downtime Activities" from Xanathar's Guide to Everything in this game. The concept is that all of the PCs are from a sort of second chance halfway house type of temple, where everyone had mixed experiences before choosing to devote themselves to the goddess. You can use any of the published materials or current UA, but not home brew materials. As for races, you can be any published race, except monster races, tortles, aarakocra, tabaxi, lizardfolk, kenku, or tieflings. (Yes, dragonborn are ok, but please do mind the library books if you choose a fire breath weapon.) I prefer this to move more quickly, so if you haven't posted in about 12 hours we will just move on and you can tell us what your character was doing then. Please only join if you can post frequently. There will not be major battle in this game, but there will be some. Thank you.
Edit: point buy or standard array. The goddess Usoara is the goddess of dawn, light, and new growth. All characters start at 3rd level. They may be looked down on a bit for being novices and for coming from the now closed Second Sun temple where Dawnlord Wintermoon (old fatherly elf) accepted newly Awakened believers with checkered pasts. (Dawnlord is a high cleric title)
2nd edit: added kenku. Also, I am in Denver, Colorado, mountain time, if that affects your availability.
3rd and final edit: Here is the list of players. There will be seven total. Thank you, everyone, for your interest. I will be sending private messages with the campaign link here shortly. Also, I will simply continue the story in this thread, so expect an intro post after I have sent all the PMs.
QueueAK - Quiqwin: Forrest gnome wizard - dropped out
Chrominator -Quill Caerulens: human cleric
Alierond -Esvaris Liadon: wood elf monk
Jack_Joke -Simeon Grey: human fighter - dropped out
Kyleh2486 - Korlan: halfling rogue
Rivina -Demoiselle Bellerose: Human Rogue
Dwelliott1126 - Forest Rock: Firbolg wizard - dropped out
That sounds fun. Clerics have always been one of my favorite classes and these days they have a huge variety.
I'd like to start a halfling Wizard and move into Arcana Cleric. I'm thinking a Wizard who finished his apprenticeship and went out on his own to see the world. Along the way research and wandering will lead him to the goddess.
Posting frequently is almost never a problem for me.
Quill Caerulens, (Variant?) Human Cleric (Knowledge Domain):
All Quill's life, he has questioned, wondered, and searched for the whys and hows of the realms. However, unlike the many who turn to alchemy, wizardry, or pacts with strange entities, Quill has always believed that the best way to find the answers is through the divine. Whether this was because of his faith in Uoara or the cause of it is impossible to know. What is certain, though, is that Quill won't let anything come between him and his beliefs.
Quill would like to think that, as someone with nothing near a questionable past, he was one of Dawnlord Wintermoon's favorites.
I've always been a bit immature. But at my last monastery, I really overdid it--almost killing one of the Priori with one of my pranks. My parents, who had shunted me from monastery to monastery, hoping I would mature and follow in my elder brother's footsteps were at a loss. They decided an appreciation for deity would do me some good, and after a long discussion with Dawnlord Wintermoon, I joined the Second Sun Temple. Owing to Dawnlord Wintermoon's patience and kindness, I have gained faith in and an appreciation of Uoara. But my fun-loving attitude and quiet disregard for the rules remain.
Ability scores (point buy w/ post race bonuses): STR 13 | DEX 14 | CON 12 | INT 11 | WIS 16 | CHA 11
Devotion to a deity, for Simeon, has never been a question of if. It has been, rather, a question of how. A life of fealty to a higher power is a forgone conclusion for Simeon, but he wasn't wholly certain about what form his devotion should take. Initially it took the form of a fighter, a champion ready to clash steel with steel in the name of his goddess. But eventually the thought of augmenting his sword with the potency of divine magic was too much to resist. After all, a warrior's sword alone fares poorly in bringing healing and blessing to the world.
This campaign sounds very interesting! I would love to join, but unfortunately I don't have enough time and you already have enough applicants. Have fun, perhaps we shall meet elsewhere!

I would love to join you. I have a monk who within your adventure converts to a cleric. If you will allow an aarakocra as the race, I am ready to go. Otherwise, I can choose a different race.

I had fun with this. I took my initial concept and made a character based on my thought process of an apprentice Kenku Wizard with a criminal background who did something horrible and must atone. Being a Kenku limited his interaction with other races but he quickly learned illusions helped communicate and also drew interest from criminal elements who offered him a job. As a wizard he was hindered by not being able to speak with his own voice and thus a spell went wrong, innocents were harmed unintentionally during a heist. While fleeing his past he found the Goddess and has since devoted his life to helping those who he decides need help.
Hi! Thanks for all the interest! When I get home I will post a list of accepted characters for the game. My completely undemocratic choices will be based on how well your character concept fits the game, not on order of requests to join. Also, Kyleh2486 gets preference because they are amazing! QueueAK, you got me! I forgot to add Kenku to the list of excluded races. Therefore, we will just make it work. 😊
This sounds very interesting, I'm thinking of the basic concept of a sorcerer who is scared of their power turning to the temple for guidance. I'll iron out a more complete backstory shortly.
No worries. I can adapt if need or my play concepts of an outsider who wound up in the criminal underground and uses illusions and his innate mimicry skills to hide when needed. Or I can play a gnome because they are fun also.

"The Goddess"? Could you give us a lore dump on this deity, that should help with designing characters.

Quiqwin - Kenku - 2 Wizard (Illusion), 1 Cleric (Trickery) - Chaotic Good - https://www.dndbeyond.com/profile/QueueAK/characters/2096098
Switched from Arcana to Trickery. Fits better with the concept of a Kenku illusionist.
