Ironthar recalls that in the early 1300's the knights of Elturel earned that name as they are one of the few militant forces to actually ride into the 9 hells to defeat the archdevil Bel. The horrors of that place caused many to retreat back into Faerun. Henceforth they were called Hellriders. A name of shame in the past for those that retreated, but in more recent times the name Hellrider is a badge of honor denoting men and women representing courage and holy piety. They are known to be worshipers of the god Tempus the god of war.

The caravan continues onwards and at night you see the moon is at the Waning Crecent phase. For those who are aware of the phases of the moon you know that in a few days the Waning Crecent gives way to the New Moon phase.
The caravan continues on in a subdued silence where you once in a while you can hear some of the caravanners and teamsters give fervent prayers to any god who would hear them.
7 days pass uneventfully but by night it's the New Moon where you can no longer see the moon. Faelsin approaches all of you. "Now I don't know if what you said will come to pass today but I need all of you to stay very vigilant this night. I already had to talk to several who are spiraling into panic. The only way I was able to calm the situation was to convince them that they were safer stay in the caravan instead of braving the wilds alone. At least I hope it is safer to remain together."
The wagons are circled and most stay in the center.
Let me know if there are any preparations you would like to do.

Knowing the new moon was coming and this was apt to be a tense time, Zeds has been trying to get as much daytime sleep as possible in Krackle's wagon. Otherwise his preparations have mainly been spying upon the robed figures. He still doesn't trust them and would be trying to figure out their story...
Zeds will offer to take 3rd watch. He wants to be able to see the robed ones securely settle in for the night before he himself catches some sleep.

Ixsas offers to pray with the caravanners and teamsters. He feels that it's a perfect opportunity to proselytize and gain more followers for Kossuth. What better time to teach people about Kossuth, the Eternal Flame, than when they are traveling through dark and dangerous lands? He confidently says, "Though we cross through the Fields of the Dead, I do not fear, for I walk with Kossuth! Evil undead fear the Eternal Flame!" If anyone is willing, he teaches them prayers for beseeching Kossuth for light and safety. He also teaches them about donating to the church of Kossuth to ensure that priests can continue to "spread Kossuth's light" in this world.
7 days pass uneventfully
((OOC: Time skip caught me off guard. Not sure whether it matters, but I was planning to have Ixsas spend one 1st and one 2nd level spell slot each day to attempt to cure the two teamsters completely. Hopefully he managed to do that before 7 days passed.))
In the days after he was able to restore the comatose teamster, Ixsas continues to care for the two men's wounds / ailments. While he does so, he extols the virtues of Kossuth and encourages them to pray for the Purifying Flame for healing and guidance. Each day until they're completely healed, he'd cast cure wounds on one of the men and either lesser restoration or protection from poison on one of the men.
If the men seem better before day 6, then Ixsas would prepare Detect Evil and Good on day 6 so that he can use it as the caravan stops for the day to examine the red-robed stranger and his white-robed friend. Getting within 30 ft. of them while he's concentrating on that spell might reveal something about the white-robed creature's true nature.
Ixsas also wanted to continue pestering the man with the burned handprint on his side about the scorched knights and what happened to him to render him comatose in the first place. If the man was unwilling to tell them about it, he was going to try suggestion (DC 14 WIS save, once/LR without spending a spell slot via Serpentine Spellcasting) to get that man to share what he remembers / knows. Partly, he believes that the man should unburden himself before he dies (i.e., "before your light rejoins the Eternal Flame"), but if the man actually encountered some sort of undead Hellrider, Ixsas would like to learn anything they can before they potentially face those foes on the night of the New Moon. For example, "Was it like a walking skeleton or corpse? Or more like an incorporeal phantom?" That may help him decide which spells to prepare. For example, while he prefers to "burn it with fire," he might prefer spells that deal radiant or force damage when fighting incorporeal creatures.
Krackle would include his carriage in the circle but would keep Krackle Jr close to him in the center. After discovering the hand shaped burn and that some of the members of the caravan may possibly be undead, The kobold no longer worried about the superstition of lighting fires. He would plan to take first watch and would create a fire in the center of the circle of wagons. He would keep his egg in his pack and sit close enough to the fire that the heat from the flames would help to keep the egg warm. Occasionally the kobold would place pour a little water inside the egg to keep it moist but would make sure to keep the contents of the bag hidden from everyone except Zeds and Ironthar.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
No matter what happened with the two teamsters and his proselytizing efforts, on the morning of the New Moon, Ixsas prepares for a possible battle against whatever these Hellriders are. He tries to avoid casting spells all day so that he'll be ready for the whatever the night brings. As the caravan circles up for the night, Ixsas moves among the people, especially the ones who have seemed receptive to Kossuth, trying to encourage them. (CHA check 3, in game log) Unfortunately, Ixsas is not very practiced at this type of morale-boosting, and his words tend to be rather grim. For example, he might say, "In our darkest hour, Kossuth's Light shall guide the way," or, "The darker the night, the brighter the flame appears." But he also tends to say things like, "If you die tonight, take comfort in knowing that you will rejoin the Eternal Flame at dawn."
Since Ironthar is an elf and only needs 4 hours of rest, do the others normally take shorter shifts? Or does the Ironthar just double up with someone else for part of the night?
Normally, Ixsas prefers to take the last watch shift so that he's awake to say prayers at dawn, but he assumes that they may face trouble in the dark of night. Ixsas says that he can take the 1st or 2nd watch shift, depending on which shift Krackle and Ironthar want. Perception12
Ixsas earned some converts to his faith as these are desperate times indeed. Though on the night of the New Moon many are scared and moral is in the gutters. Through the spell Ixsas also know that Vexas is indeed undead but not the man in the red robes.
Ixsas is also able to heal the 2 teamsters. Over the 7 days the teamsters are almost at full strength. It takes the use of a the suggesstion spell but in the end the burned teamster speaks of not phantoms or skeletons, but knights in full armor with fire pouring out of the armor. How 1 of the knights trying to grab him but he wriggled free in a nightmarish dream.
From the story Ixsas can surmise that fire may not be the best element should the Hellriders appear.

Ixsas is not surprised, but he is determined to set an example faith and resolve in the face of evil.
Through the spell Ixsas also know that Vexas is indeed undead but not the man in the red robes.
Ixsas shares this information with Ironthar, Krackle, and Zeds. He is inclined to put it to the Fire along with the red-robed man who brought such an impure thing into their company. But given the unknown dangers posed by the Hellriders, he's willing to delay that confrontation for now so that everyone is at full strength on the night of the new moon.

Ixsas preaches about the healing power of the Eternal Flame and exhorts the men to praise Kossuth now that they are cured.
Ixsas does the interview of the burned man (under the power of his suggestion) in the presence of the other party members one evening. That way, the other party members can hear his story first-hand. Ixsas's only question is how many of these burning knights the man saw. After hearing the man's story, Ixsas says, "Your ordeal is over. Rejoice! Fire is Purification! Through it, you may be transformed into what you are finally meant to be."
Ixsas is definitely concerned about the Hellriders. He complains to the other party members once the teamster has left them alone: "Undead that was born in fire? It's a blasphemy against Kossuth! More fiend than undead! But Kossuth is not just the fire that burns but the light it sheds. We will see how these things fare against Kossuth's sacred radiance!" You realize that Ixsas is practically eager to fight these undead.
(Coordinating on a battle strategy)
Ixsas speaks with Krackle on the night before the new moon about the kobold's draconic magic. If Krackle shares the spells he can cast, Ixsas worries that Krackle is also focused on fire magic (create bonfire and fire bolt) and spells that probably only affect the living (sleep and hold person). If the Krackle wants to get up close and use his dragon's breath, Ixsas offers to invoke Kossuth's protection over him to ward Krackle from the attacks of the undead. Alternatively, if Krackle prefers to bestow that power on Ironthar or Ixsas while the kobold stays back and uses his crossbow, then Ixsas may instead prefer to focus on bless. In any case, Ixsas suggests that Krackle avoid fire and poison breath. Maybe trying acid or perhaps cold breath?
If Krackle is not casting dragon's breath on Ixsas, then he'll plan to use spiritual weapon and either sacred flame or a leveled spell against the undead. If there's a mob of undead, he may turn the undead to keep them from moving past the party and attacking the rest of the caravan members. Otherwise, he'll look for an opportunity to get close to as many as possible and then channel Radiance of the Dawn early in the fight.
Other preparations:
Ixsas recommends that they fill as many buckets, cups, and bowls with water as they can. If the Hellriders are able to set the wagons or other gear on fire, they'll want to put out the fires as quickly as possible.
"I'm still not convinced they had nothing to do with the illnesses," Zeds says when told of the Red Robed one and Vexas. "I'm not opposed to ending them, but we're kind of working for the wagon master so unless my hand is forced it is kind of his call..."
Zeds rolls his eyes a bit at the religious mumbo-jumbo. He's never been one much for the gods, always seemed to him that if they were so great and powerful they would just solve things themselves and need not people worshipping and begging them. He's never tried to get an anthill to build him a temple... Still, he has seen the power some of these religious nuts can yield so he's none to eager to antagonize Ixsas. Best have him on his side, Zeds figures.
"Fire... Undead... not particularly fond of either when I am not expecting them," Zeds assures. "I'd rather not tangle with a combination of the two if I don't have to but we'll see what happens, I imagine."
"Dirt can smother a flame as well, and there's more of it around," Zeds points out when the topic of extinguishing fires comes up. "Might be worthwhile organizing the passengers into a bit of a fire brigade... If it can be done without panicking them too much. It is their caravans and such they would be protecting, after all..."
Krackle would scratch his scaly chin as Ixsas discusses battle strategy. "Oh.. well ummm. When we were fighting in a cave full of dragon cultists, I cast dragonbreath on Ironthar... and then stood in the back and helped out from behind. If you don't think my fire spells will be very helpful then I can using that plan again. Last time I gave him acid breath and it worked out really well." The kobold says with a smile while subtly clutching the bag on his chest a bit tighter. "I... I can cast a spell that I heard someone say was called magic missile... I don't really know the names that well... I wasn't really taught them... they just kind of come naturally." Krackle adds with a smile. "You know kobolds and dragons are a lot alike... I think I have the blood of dragons flowing in my veins. Some day I'll be as powerful as a dragon and then Ill be able to take care of all of my friends."
Krackle looks to Zeds and nods. "Maybe Krackle jr can help to stomp out any fires... as long as they arn't too big. I don't want him getting burned."

Ixsas smiles and says, "No, indeed! Best to take cover where you can and keep your egg safe. That sounds like a good plan."
Regarding fire spells, he says, "Feel free to try a fire spell and see whether it affects the Hellriders. Kossuth grants me a certain command over fire, and I'll have more options to lay low our enemies if fire is effective against them. If fire is not effective, then you could snipe at them from cover with this magic missile or even your crossbow."
FYI - during his watch shift, Ixsas would cast Light on something near the center of the circle of wagons. Then he'd walk the perimeter inside the circle of wagons, peering over/under/around them with his Darkvision. He does that to keep watch for other threats. Ixsas is not too concerned about missing the approach of the Hellriders because he assumes that they'll be streaming smoke and flame which he'll be able to see long before they get close to the caravan.
Ironthar takes the last watch, the drama has made his mind so tired that he need some time to trance. He never says this to anyone but when he is on a trance, he dreamt of shadowfell, where he can see his home as an invisible ghost. He makes a deep sigh and mumbles in his meditation. “Need something to do before I go home.”
When he wakes up, he sits nearby the two hooded figure and watch them.
Ironthar tries to remember anything he heard about the hellrider. He needs to know what they’re dealing with before making some crucial decision.
