Your journey was uneventful, but the island now visible off the bow promises rare wonders. Seaweed shimmers in countless brilliant colors below you, and rays of sunlight defy the overcast sky to illuminate the lush grass and dark basalt rock of the island. Avoiding the rocks jutting up from the ocean, your ship makes its way toward a calm harbor on the island’s north side.
A large, open-air temple comes into view, perched on the edge of a cliff high above you. The ship drops anchor at the mouth of the harbor, and two sailors row you ashore. You have plenty of time to admire the towering statue at the center of the temple, depicting a wizened man surrounded by seven songbirds. A long path winds up the side of the cliff to the temple, dotted along the way with doorways cut into the rock.
The sailors set you ashore on a rickety dock, where a large rowboat is neatly tied. They point to the base of the path and wish you good luck before they row back to the ship. Your visit to Dragon’s Rest begins! What do you do?
OOC: Now is a good time to introduce your characters, and maybe hint at why they are there. You can engage in some RP if you would like, or we can jump straight in. If you would prefer to start your character on the ship and/or the rowboat, that is fine, but make sure they end on the docks.
Cherry Littleoak feels both trepidation and excitement as the statue comes into view. Stormwreck Isle. "That's a mighty big statue there." she says in awe, "wonder who the ol' fogey is." She straightens out her fur garments and adjusts the coonskin hat on her head. "So what are all of you folks here for?" asks the halfling, "I'm intending on seeing some Elder Runara hopefully."
After the first day on board it was obvious that the just under 6’ topaz colored dragonborn is seasick he isolates himself in any available somewhat private space. As the week of travel passes and the isle comes into view, he is one of the first to transfer onto the dingy heading to land. Being shoulder to shoulder with the others is somewhat awkward for Zinzenzax, he is certainly not used to being close to anyone. He chooses a seat next to the other dragonborn if he can. Once the dingy makes shore, Zin scoops up a handful of sand/dirt/or gravel and just holds it in his hands as if it is a great treasure.
“I’m so relieved to be here. Hello, hello, hello, I hope to be a guide here once I get the lay of the land a bit, call me Zinzenzax or Zin for short if you prefer.”
It may be obvious that Zin is talking through his anxiety looking a bit nervously at each person he greets, and to those who sat near him on the trip over, he has a bit of a foul odor. His clothes are plain but his backpack looks quite nice, he is carrying a net over one shoulder has a morningstar strapped on his side, handaxes on the other side.
Irtos answers Cherry, "That figure represents Bahamut, the Platinum dragon. while he is in human form. The seven songbirds around him represent his 7 gold dragon attendants." As a cleric of Bahamut, she speaks with reverance as she says this.
Shivering from the cold, a runt tabaxi takes refuge by ship's stove. Cooking and cleaning, making himself useful throughout the voyage. Lothar introduces himself to a seasick dragonborn, whose name he learned was Zin. Giving him dry bullion baked biscuits and water to keep up his strength til he can get back on land.
When ever he emptied the slop bucket, he performed a ritual to speak to animals. Questioning any that heard his call "Psst, psst, psst" about the island and it's balance change.
At some point during the voyage, Lothar has cooked everyone on board delicious meals, purifying the ship's stores through rituals. Breaking and crushing hardtack to rebake into biscuits and noodles was the highlight to the crew. Teaching the ship's doctor/cook several recipes upcycling the hardtack, in return he learn of the lore of seas and oceans. Being aboard a ship makes him realize bodies of water are a biome, not just a barrier to cross.
In the rowboat bundled up tight in a bear skin, Lothar marvels at the statues and the aftermath of a dragon battle. Upon reaching land, he watches Zin go down and rushes to aid him. Realizing Zin just wanted to ground himself, he looks him over with an eye practiced in medicine. "Your looking alot shinier today!"
Cherry shrugs nonchalantly as Irtos speaks of Bahamut. She didn't put trust in the gods herself but if the kobold did then it was his perogative. Where Irtos gets excited by the remains of a dragon fight Cherry seems to freeze in place for moment with a look of sorrow tinged with hatred. "Dragons." she whispers.
She keeps over by Zin and Lothar. She finds some commonality with the tabaxi's rugged look and has learned not mind smells like Zin's. "You did a job with the cooking aboard, sonny." she says to Lothar, "Where you thinking of heading now that we've arrived?"
'Oi, what's all the racket about, you seasquirts?' a large and fat black dragonborn scowls as he emerges from below deck where he was sleeping, before he spots the isle on the horizon. Baring his stained and sharp yellow teeth, Borvnir, the black dragonborn barbarian, smiles a sinister grin and rubs his scaly hands together in glee 'Looks like some dragons got caught up in a tussle 'ere, ey? Maybe they'll be some left for me to sink my teeth into! I'll sharpen my axe! Oh, and halfpint!' Borvnir says, gesturing towards Lothar dismissively 'I want more noodles, bring 'em to me quick, I'll need the extra strength.' And with that he sinks back into the shadows of the boats underbelly, which he's fashioned into a sort of mock cave to dwell in.
"The fish and reptiles have been fleeing, not safe and tranquil place anymore for them. Something changed the balance of nature here, i have made an oath to protect her. I learned to cook because I'm always cold." Lothar says
Zin doesn’t seem to notice much in all the commotion of finally making landfall, as Irtos and Cherry talk of Bahamut Zin listens interestedly. Seems Irtos is very knowledgeable about this subject…
Lothar what a blessing, Zin has never had anyone so concerned about his welfare, most just mind their own business. Even though Zin has had to deal with much worse than a little seasickness it was a true relief having someone helping him during the trip.
”I imagine there will be a welcoming party up these stairs, perhaps up near the statue of Bahamut. Should we make haste see if there is a village or such up there?”
As you begin to talk on the beach you hear a splash and a moan behind you. Turning around, you see a few humanoids walking up the sand. They're dressed as sailors, but their skin is greying and their eyes are rotting.
Borvnir gives an excited roar as he pulls his great axe from his back, ready to hack and tear the zombies to bits. Initiative: 9
I forgot to specify, roll it on your character sheets, because the online roller does a lot of crap, but I'll take the 9 for this initiative, but roll everything else in your character sheet.

Irtos notices something strange about the rocks
The rocks on the cliffs show gouges in the shape of claws, they look like the remnants of a dragon battle.

Excited Irtos says, "Wow! Looks like dragons were fought here! Look, you can see their claw marks in the rocks there!"
