There is a second sun – some people cannot see the light from the old sun, those that do cannot see the light from the new sun. The suns have different rotation speeds around this planet (Geocentric universe, this one).
Stars fall to the planet – no longer among their brethren in the constellations, they bring with them mysterious metal and terrifying monsters.
The moon has begun to shatter – shards of it are now forming a ring in the sky, almost like a gateway for… something.
The dragons are worried. Something bad is going to happen. Something that, once it starts, not even the dragons, protectors of the world, can stop.
Void Beyond the Stars, Void Beyond the Stars: Otherside, and Void Beyond the Stars: Inner Realms were my first attempts at DMing a Play by Post campaign. Unfortunately, I let them slowly die, primarily due to me going radio silent for a couple months near the beginning of this year. However, I want to continue telling the story of the world of this game, so I now offer Void Beyond the Stars: Rebirth. It’s three months after the start of the apocalyptic scenario described at the start of this post. If the party survives long enough, perhaps they will start to act to save the planet from whatever threat it is facing. This game is in a world on the edge of falling to an apocalypse, yet some people are still able to live as normal (or at least, mostly normal) and even have new technologies (guns were only invented in recent times, and the stars bring a useful metal with them).
If you are interested, please post with your character backstory and appearance (See post 2 for preferred format). Only 3 or 4 people who submit a character concept in the following week or two will be accepted, as some members of the previous campaigns have chosen to continue playing. Regarding stats, please hold off until you are accepted (though you will be able to choose to use point buy, standard array, or roll 4d6 drop lowest 7 times, dropping lowest score). All OOC chatter will be done on a discord server set up for the game. Players can start with their default equipment or roll starting money, and have 100 extra GP to play with, regardless of that choice. Each player will also start with a feat (gained at 1st level).
The game will start at 3rd level, and the following content will be permitted: - All official content on D&D Beyond - All Unearthed Arcana Content available on D&D Beyond - Matthew Mercer’s Blood Hunter class - All Plane Shift content (I will homebrew what you choose onto D&D Beyond) - All content and rules in this homebrew document: (let me know if you wish to pick something from here as I will have to homebrew it onto D&D Beyond).
Characters will level on story-based advancement, rather than gaining XP from killing stuff. Other variant rules for the campaign are as follows; hero points will be used, as will side initiative, to ensure ease of play if players are in different time zones (which is bound to happen).
In terms of world lore, well, it’s very open ended. In other words, the players can contribute to the lore of the world. Gods are a key part of the world, but very few of them have been defined, so players are free to describe the gods their character worship (name, what they are god/dess of, domains available to their worshippers). The world has the standard 5e planar cosmology. The following gods are ones that have already been defined: - The Dragons; Each town, village, and city has a protector dragon (most of which are named after the same dragon), and some worship them. Offer any domain (one per dragon). - The Dragonfather; the tribes of the Dragonscorch desert worship the sun, which they call the Dragonfather. Other cultures also worship the sun, albeit by other names. The Dragonfather offers the Life and Light domains.
The adventure will start in the small town of Nuras, five days southeast of Grykacrun, and 6 days northeast of Utholgaz, both equally small towns. It is about 2 weeks east of the City of Vothedrez, which is much further away than both towns.

Each application must provide an answer to this prompt, otherwise I will ignore the application. It should also follow the established lore as repeated here:
Prompt: Name a settlement (and in turn its patron dragon) and the type of dragon that founded it.
Established Lore: The name of a settlement is the name of the dragon who founded it and protects it.
Name: Darith
Race: Cloud Elf
Class: Swashbuckler Rogue 3
Background: Veteran Mercenary
Backstory: Darith, bored of life in the Sky City in which he was raised, decided one day to sneak away on an air ship departing the city. Less than a day later, it was attacked by pirates, who took him hostage. After several months acting as their slave, he eventually became part of the pirate crew. Over the course of years, he managed to work his way into the position of captain. Unfortunately, his tenure as captain was cut short as his air ship was crashed by a rival crew. He managed to survive, and decided to turn away from piracy, after re-evaluating his life choices at the bottom of a mug of ale in Caurrinvorx, a town a few days from the crash. Five years later, he works as a travelling mercenary, and has made his way to Nuras.
Appearance: 5’4”, pale, with ebon hair, Darith dresses in a positively ostentatious outfit, his swashbuckler’s hat bearing a miniature peacock feather, and his coat a brilliant shade of crimson, with silver detailing. (Picture optional)
Prompt Answer: The town of Caurrinvorx is protected by a Silver dragon.

Backstory: Jethro started life as a simple farmer's child. He was having a normal upbringing until the day that his village was overrun by undead. He fled with his mother, but things got a bit foggy after that. He recalls waking up in what seemed like a tomb, and being taught things by an old looking man. He learnt strange things; about magic, the world, the undead. He doesn't recall why he thought this was normal, but for some reason went along with it. After ten years of doing so, his teacher told him he had a task for him; to go out into the world and find the information he is looking for, why the dragons are agitated and what is happening with the stars. (The "old man" is the undying patron, but will leave the major factors of it to the DM)
Appearance: A gaunt lanky human, a little over six feet in height with pasty white skin and heavy bags of tiredness showing around his dull grey eyes. He has a shaved head, with a small scar atop his scalp that he doesn't know about. He dresses with some basic leather clothing atop of his grey travelling clothing. Adorned on his hip are a pair of daggers, and on his back is a pack with a light crossbow attached. He looks like one that should be dead, or very sick, but isn't unwell and is very much alive, though his demeanour isn't that showing of it.
Prompt Answer: The city looked after by the Silver Dragon, Xarruzek. It is a land where the frozen ice walls are kept strong to keep out the dreaded creatures of the night by the magical breath of Xarruzek.
Backstory: Baka had a fairly normal life in the town of Walgranda, and he lived his life normally, he was fairly lazy and did work around his farm and he felt useless, he felt like he could do so much more. Baka didn't know how to act upon this feeling until he was called upon by Lecternum and was told that the city had become stale and that he become of use if he could prove himself, he was warned that there were many other candidates and that he would have to do something bold. So now he adventures to prove himself to his city.
Appearance: Baka looks fairly normal for a kenku and stands up straight mostly, he dresses in black, light tunics when on adventures but when in any public situation he wears bright red, or green tunics, depending on his mood, he carries a dagger and a rapier on him at all times, his preferred weapons.
Prompt Answer: Overseen by Lecternum, an ancient golden dragon, the city of Walgranda is very dull and sort of primal, people are very friendly and there is not many conflicts between the people, the city is protected by its people and earth elementals.
Backstory: Gruun was rasied from childhood by a Druid in the wild. Kept away from the traditional beliefs of Bugbears, Gruun does not worship their gods but instead was taught to love and cherish the forest of his home. The drudic influence was enough to change his values but the strength and nature of his blood still came through. The druid spent many years trying to find a way to tame the rage and bloodlust of this increasingly capable killer. The druid finally found the answer when poachers killed a bear leaving its den and family unprotected. It took some time to convince the bears to take him but once Gruun understood he had a family his druidic teachings came to fruition.
Gruun used his stength and stealth to hunt those entering his woods. Those seeking evil found an enemy of terrible strength and rage while those with good will found nothing hindered them during their travel.
With the troubling signs appearing and words of trouble spreading the druid sought out Gruun in his home and bade him journey to find the truth.
Appearance: Gruun is covered in dark brown fur that changes to tan across his toros and lower limbs. He has light brown eyes and his ears are small and round atop his head. He has a wide face with slightly protruding nose a chin giving a slight appearance of a muzzle.
Prompt: Gruun traveled to the nearby town of Cielzrurim, a small rural town with many dealings in the forest. It was founded by a Silver dragon who was good companions with the druid of the forest, keeping the town and woods in harmony.
It seems I forgot to actually put a link to the homebrew document I mentioned in the opening post, here it is, give it a read. There are a couple of homebrew rules at the very start, in addition tot he options that follow them.
Also, extra bit of lore regarding dragons: Metallic and Chromatic Dragons aren't necessarily good or evil based on the colour of their scales, and all tend towards good or neutral alignments, with only the few who are tempted by Tiamat taking on evil alignments. A chromatic dragon is just as likely to found a city as a metallic one, and even dragon turtles and other lesser dragons (other than wyverns) might decide to found settlements.
Backstory: In the sleeping village Fraux, a star from the night sky began to plummet to the ground. Awaken by the impact the village chief and a few other huntsmen went to search for the commotion but nothing was there only them imprint of a man within a crater. Anchor awoke in a forest not remembering who he was nor how he got to the forest only in a crater. He wonder the forest and till he meet the guardian of the forest and village. A Red Adult Dragon, to the dragons surprise this man was made not of flesh but metal unfamiliar to him. He tried to speak to anchor but anchor did not understand, he could not speak. Curious and suspicious about the recent star falling the Re Dragon took Anchor to his home and began to teach him common. To the dragons amazement Anchor quickly caught on and in a few months began speaking perfect common. The dragon concluded the he was not dangerous and introduced him to the village, the village was hesitant but the chief quickly offered his home and place of work to the strange metal man. He spent the next year or so learning blacksmithing from the chief and his family.
His life was peaceful until a group of bandits tried to raid the village while the Red Dragon was away. Anchor protect the chief in his time of need and his body moved on instinct quickly beat the bandits with his bare hands. To Anchor surprise the village celebrated and thanked him for protect them. It gave him a unique feeling, this warm feeling made him want to learn more about himself and where he came from with the dragon's and the village's blessing he set off to find out where he came from and what his purpose is in this strange world.
Appearance: Standing 7 and a half feet tall, with a powerful build. His body towers most people and his body is covered by Metallic plates. He takes pride of his metallic body and rarely wears clothes. His body is a dark metallic similar to star filled sky.
Prompt Answers: The small village of Fraux was found by a Red Dragon, he liked the solitude of the forest near by and people just naturally flocked to the grasslands by the forest for protection.
Something I'm noticing in most of these applications is people answering the prompts without taking into consideration the established lore that was mentioned right below the prompt. If that could be remedied, that will improve your chances of being chosen.
Also, it occurs to me that it would be wise to mention the classes of the already present characters: one is playing a blood hunter, and the other is playing a rogue/monk (multiclassed).

So the village would be called Fraux because it's protected by the red dragon. Would this be the correct, just a little confused on how you want things.

Felix Windfall (Human-V Lv.7 Rogue) killed in ToA,Vallan Houndstrider (Halfling Ghostwise Lv.1 Fighter) in DiA
Backstory: Built as one of the patrols who walks the streets of Scorvern, during a small civil war in the city. It was designed to suppress and control mobs who got out of hand along with police the city. It was fairly good at its job, not needing food, gold, or sleep. It couldn't be bribed or poisoned, so it persisted in it's duties. When the rebellions finally died down, they downgraded their position to simple guard or workers, some even asked for freedom at the end of it. It asked for freedom. It was granted to him if it could bring back something to please the dragon. So it left in search of something a dragon would desire.
Appearance: Metal parts are bronze platings and wooden parts are made of oak. Most of the limbs are covered in bronze while the joints are exposed as wood. It's face resembles that of a helmet, slits where the eyes should be and holes at the mouth. The slits glow brightly, showing its awake or inactive at the moment. It doesn't wear clothes, only having holsters for his sword.
Prompt: A red dragon that rests at the overlook at the edge of the city, protecting the city with hellfire upon droves of wild creatures or bandits. Was taking yearly offerings but now pleased with warforged constant offering of food and wealth.
That setup sounds pretty cool, but i will have to use this as a placeholder for now. While i have a sorceress that would fit in really good, i just read through your hombrew content and i would love to try out the starfolk, but before setting up a character i wanted to ask you whether you settled on anything regarding their general appearances and their names. Another question would be whether you would generally consider another bloodhunter, i've been dying to try out both, a character using guns and as well the bloodhunter class, but since there already is one in the group and everyone else is applying rather melee-heavy i could also come up with something else. Anyway, i hope you'll see this soon because im dying to get a character done.
Edit: Oh, and how do the suns behave concerning the starfolk?
If you've ever seen Novakids from the game Starbound, that's a pretty accurate image of what Starfolk look like (as they were what inspired me to make the race), sans the Novakid's facial markings. I've not set up a naming scheme for Starfolk, but something somewhat alien would be appropriate (one Starfolk NPC I've used was named Qlevvaln, for example). As for class, I don't mind double ups for class, though I will note that the existing blood hunter does use a longbow as their primary weapon.
As for your last question, I don't quite understand what you mean. They are aware of the second sun, though they see the light from the original, as will all player characters (to keep things simpler for me and for the players).
Also, when I see people can only see the light of one sun and not the other, that's probably not the best wording. Both suns are visible to everyone, but the illumination they provide is somehow like a sun vs a star in the night sky, despite their proximity to the planet.

Class: Bard (if college of satire gets released on dndb, probably saturday, then I'll be it, else glamour)
Background: Entertainer
Backstory: Early life wasn't easy for Slinth, from a young age being pushed into a gang at the young age of 6, due to her natural shape shifting abilities.
But at 16 a travelling bard, Braian (a human), going to perform in one of the city's taverns and whom she was trying to scam, seen other path for her, he offered to make her life easier, to make her an artist, at the time she was Alisha, an alter eggo beggar with a talent to come up with stories, stories those the bard could see thru.
For 1 year she kept this alter ego, fearing to show her true nature, appart from her "acting" skills, but after this time she completely trusted her tutor and shown her true self, telling her true name and showing her form, instead of fear, Braian showed awe, she could end up being an better artist than he ever imagined.
She performed along with him and other in his company (tho she always presented herself as a new person), imitating multiple characters from stories she had seen drawings of, but, out of those, 3 would become her favourites: Ann, her now favourite character, representing a strong women in the teather who would always rise to the challange and beat it, no matter what it would be... Jo, an elven women respresenting the beauty and allure of the female presence, and a master lyrist, someone who could bend others to her will... and Jo, a dragonborn hero of the people who always helps those arround her.
This performances went on for a total of 4 years, time when, while she was in a performance, her mentor was away comming back from a deal with a noble and robbed and killed, without him she felt no more need to stay with this company anymore, and now roams the world, both helping those less fortunate such as she was in her younger years and performing for the wide amazement of most, including nobles.
Most people still know her only as Ann, the agent of multiple highly talented artists with both instruments and at acting, something most find weird is the fact those people are never seen comming, going or together with Ann. The other 2 alias are mostly known by the extreme opposites, Jo is almost only seen by the poor while Ma is nearly only seen by the nobility.
At all times she always keeps a leather and metal bracelet with extremely intricate designs, a present from Braian, this bracelet is magical and will always adapt to Slinth's chosen form, a magic put in place by Almus, a wizard friend of the bard.
Appearance: Ann is a chubby human women, green eyes, red haired and slightly tanned skin, muscles in her arms and a cute face with rosed cheeks, this is also Slinth's favourite alter ego and she'lll mostly present herself in this form.
Ma is a slender elven women, green eyes, blonde haired and pale skinned, she seems to always have a calm and alluring face.
Jo is a red dragonborn that seems to never even let a bit of smoke comeout of her mouth, she has a scar over the left eye, both her eyes are black and her scales present no shine.
Slinth is this changeling's true name and true form, it looks like a deformed humanoid, with grey skin and no pupils in her eyes, no teeth on her mouth and no nose, she rarely ever shows this form, and only those she wants to scare of those she really trust have ever seen this form,
Prompt Answer: Razen'ka is a medium sized town, mostly filled by those of less honorable backgrounds, an ancient red dragon protects it, preventing those from elsewhere to enter if they want anything bad for the town, but law inside it is whatever they can get away with. The city itself has a darker tone to itself, controlled by its gangs, 5 major gangs take part on it, each controlling aproximatedly 1/6th of the city, The Raz, The Rooks, The Mencis and The Finco. There are walls all arround the city, those were an offering by a neighbouring city a long time ago, but you can wonder wether those are to protect the city itself or instead to keep the population in check.
Feat: Actor (for obvious reasons), tho is there any way to set an extra feat on the DnDB character page?
Class: Bloodhunter (3) - Order of the Profane Soul
Background: Far Traveler
Backstory: For all of his existence, Exharash had felt like he was trying to live the life of to different people, maybee even creatures, that simply could not fit together. This feeling was already reflected by his name. "Exharash" was the sensation that was pulsing through his mind when he woke up after his arrival and it was the only thing he knew he was, it was the one thing that belonged to him, and to himself only. The other part, "Thquifyure", was something he came up with just because he liked the sound of it. In this world, most people claimed more than one name and you were generally better off introducing yourself with two as well. His kind had a tendancy to attract the attention of others anyway and it was best not to stick out.
Exharash had been one of the late ones. Upon his arrival, most people had already learned to fear the monsters that originated from the same place as him. Looking back, it wasn't much of a surprise the common folk had despised him like that. The first few years, he had tried to blend in and live a normal live in the big cities. After repeatedly getting cast out of the communites, however, he had given up the hope of settling down and started wandering the lands. The horrors he witnessed on his travels, brutal massacres carried out by the creatures that had also descended from the skies, soon replaced the bitterness in his heart with understanding. Not much later, a fateful discovery led him into the hideout of a long gone bloodhunter and thus to the two weapons that he would soon call his best friends. Equipped with new knowledge and something that felt like a soul living in his guns, Exharash had set out to perish every monstrositiy he could aim his twin barrels at. He knew he wouldnt be able to restore the damage done to his kinds reputation, but he could at least try to minimize the pain and suffering the world would see in the future.
Appearance: 5'8". Instead of eyes, he has two horizontal, orange glowing slits that slightly widen in the middle. Functioning as a nose four sloped slits a little off the middle of the face. Instead of hair, the head is covered by acanthous extensions of dark horn. Resembling the uneven tan of humans, most of Exharashs skin shows a mixture of purple and deep blue tone as the darker part, the light part being a transition of blue into white. He wears a ratty combination of dark grey pants and a jerkin. A hoodless, black cape nearly coveres two weardly shaped guns dangling from his hips without holster. Both seem to emit a feint gleeming, one resembling smoke, the other resembling a twitchy yellow.
It is not really how i imagine him, but his facial expressions would resemble something like this:
Prompt Answer: The city sometimes called Gaiatown by less god-fearing or, as in this case, dragon-fearing folk has its origins in a ridge that was transfigured by a huge battle. The black dragon Gaiaton had wiped out a rather scary horde of monstrosities, and the floods of acid the dragon manifested during the fierce battle didnt trickle away but instead melted down the stone and created paths and caves in the hills that are now inhabited and got expanded by the people living under the protection of Gaiaton, who seems to tolerate the most creatures that didnt drop from the skies.
If you generally dislike the idea of two ranged bloodhunters with potentially even the same subclass, im more than happy to turn in a sorceress instead.
backstory: (might vary a bit once I know more about the gods) Growing up in the wilderness on his own, Anders is much more comfortable under the stars with the animals than with people. Swearing an oath to be the protector of the beauty of life. Originally he thought it was just to protect the land and nature. Setting forth his pilgrimage coming into civilization, he soon learned the beauty of people, celebration, love, .... and drinking. He has changed over the years wanting to protect all the good life has to offer, and can have a pretty bad temper when other forces try to disrupt the balance and lessen the light of the world.
appearance: People tend to have a hard time describing Anders’ appearance. They can’t quite place it, not human, not quite elven... just ambiguously “perfect”. The one thing everyone can point out his golden hair; although he has cut it short to not draw too much attention; it tends to be quite obvious. He doesn’t appear too much at first glance, but upon further inspection, he is much more broad than expected.
Prompt: Orthanox - bronze dragon. The city of Orthanox is an expanding city, expanding upwards. The buildings are made to towering heights in order to remain within the brass walls; said to be originally erected by Orthanox himself.
Seems like a cool idea. I'd like to give this a go.
Name: Harmond Ivanov
Race: Human
Class: Ranger (Hunter)
Level 1 Feat: Deadshot
Background: (Are custom backgrounds allowed? If not I will change it to soldier) Hell Patrol Skills: Acrobatics, Intimidation. Language: Elvish Tool: Playing Card Set
Backstory: Harmond grew up in the city of Eridome, named after the adult copper dragon that was it's guardian. The city had a specialized military squad called Hell Patrol that would help Eridome in protecting the city. In his childhood, he spent time reading books on war and combat and pretending to fight monsters as members of the Hell Patrol during his play time. He would try to train himself as best as he could. Rangers were particularly interesting to him.
When Harmond turned 18, he finally joined the military. He worked his way up the ranks and at the age of 24, he finally became a member of the Hell Patrol. His commanding officer was a High born elf named Dresh Silversurge. Although his squad-mates were really nice people and he got along with them well, Dresh was quite arrogant and thought everyone else as insignificant. Harmond was one of the first people to try out guns when they were first invented. He became quite used to them. During most of his time in the Hell Patrol, he was stationed in the caves of the mountain his city was next to. There he would defend the city from any monsters that might attack.
When the disaster finally struck, the Hell Patrol were called to help Eridome fight off a large horde of monsters that were charging toward the city. Dresh commanded his soldiers to recklessly charge into combat against a particularly nasty group of foes. Harmond, fought for a while but when his allies started falling and his injuries began mounting, he looked to his commander and saw him running. Knowing the battle was lost, Harmond began running and narrowly escaped the hoard. The town was able to survive the attack however. When Harmond, recovered from his injuries and returned to the military, only to learn Dresh, who had led his subordinates to their deaths was being treated as a war hero. Harmond resigned as a soldier and left town. He wanted to find a better life for himself and he was ready to face the post-apocalyptic world to do it.
Appearance: Harmond wears long gloves, long pants and a full sleeved shirt. His helmet hides the upper part of his face along with his hair. A thin dark colored cloth is wrapped around the lower part of his face. This attire makes it next to impossible for anyone to detect any of his physical features such as Hair, facial features eye color even skin tone. Dark green and gray are the dominant colors of his attire. Some small bits of his armor are elegantly colored in bright yellow. These were his colors while he was a member of Hell Patrol (Based on my Doom OC). Under all the clothes, he has very pale skin and dark hair. He is 5ft 8 in tall.
Prompt Answer: The city of Eridome is protected by an adult copper dragon. It is located at the base of some large hills.
Character sheet (Stats and HP are placeholders): ddb.ac/characters/4195381/6swAiD
Backstory: For a tiefling, Melech has always been treated well. However, after many attempts to make friends with the villagers, and finding that he is destined to be left out, he wandered one night into a cave where he found a glowing orb, which when touched triggered his magic abilities and with them brought haunting poltergeists and murderous spirits to distract and mislead Melech. As a boy, he heard of dragons, of their wisdom and abilities, and he hopes they can help him throw off the spirits haunting him. He travels to find if the dragons are willing to trade him services- him helping them to rid themselves of their agitation, and them helping him to rid himselves of the haunting spirits.
Appearance: Melech is short (5'6") and slight(130 lbs.), but his demeanor is serious and sober. He always expects danger and is constantly muttering to the spirits to leave him. He has been doing it so long it is now a reflex, and so he is slightly haggard, having been on the road a few days and haunted by demonic spirits. He has raven black hair, scarlet eyes and purple skin. However, he wears a long robe to hide as much as possible who he is and what haunts him.
Prompt Answer: The city of Vorinyx is protected by the ancient bronze dragon of the same name.

Felix Windfall(Human-V Lv.7 Rogue) killed in ToA, Vallan Houndstrider (Halfling Ghostwise Lv.1 Fighter) in DiASomething I'm noticing in most of these applications is people answering the prompts without taking into consideration the established lore that was mentioned right below the prompt.

Felix Windfall(Human-V Lv.7 Rogue) killed in ToA, Vallan Houndstrider (Halfling Ghostwise Lv.1 Fighter) in DiAName: Riot
Race: Warforged (Juggernaut)
Class: Fighter (Battlemaster)
Background: City watch / Investigator
The settlement would be named after the dragon, yes.

Hey there!

Here's my Extended Signature!
Name: Slinth (Ann, Ma, Jo)
Race: Changeling
Thank you for the clarification!
Name: Exharash Thquifyire
Race: Starfolk
Name: Anders
Race: Aasimar - Scourged
Class: Paladin - Oath of the Ancient Ones
background: Outlander
backstory: (might vary a bit once I know more about the gods) Growing up in the wilderness on his own, Anders is much more comfortable under the stars with the animals than with people.

Name: Melech
Race: Tiefling
Class: Sorceror
Level 1 Feat: Combat Panache
