The door has a name painted on it. "The Charred Remains" it says.
(OOC: If the party finds a bunch of books with "property of Hildigrim" written inside of the cover, then the party has found the inn arsonists, and can figure out how they acquire their merchandise.)

Hildigrim looks up at the sign, then smiles at the building. "The Charred Remains," he says with a hushed reverence. Then, he looks up at Jorin and Drusk. "I've heard of this place," he says with excitement. "I've always wanted to visit." Without waiting for a reply, he hurries in, calling, "Come on!" to his friends.

You enter to the faint tinkling of a bell in the back. The place is as you might imagine, dark, musty, replete with stacks of books, in no very discernible order, some slim, some large, many old, others new. A recently published stack of broadsheets (think Victorian newspapers) sits by the entrance.
While the front of the place has many books, there is a railing and a desk that impede your progress into the back of the store, which seems much more... more. Interesting. Dark. Books.
Drusk begins looking at the closest stacks, as if searching for something.
A minute after you enter, a young female gnome comes out from the back. She is wiping her hands on a cloth, leaving ink stains behind. She smiles as she sees you. "'allo! What can I do for you adventurers!"

"Hey Hildi, it looks like someone put a rail here in front of those other books," Jorin says, then clasps his hands together to make a step, "Need a lift over?"
Hildigrim places a hand on Jorin's big arm and smiles at him. "Patience. Patience."He turns to the young gnome and gives her the same "I'm in my happy place" smile. "Good morning. Hildigrim Goodbody," he says, placing a hand to his chest. "Jorin. Drusk," he says, indicating his big companions. "My friends and I are on our way to the Blackstaff Tower and stumbled upon your establishment. I must confess I've heard of the Charred Remains before but have never visited. I'm a bit of a bibliophile, but recently lost almost my entire collection in ... well, a fire." He look changes to thoughtful as the coincidence strikes him.
She laughs a tinkly laugh. "Well, then you're in the right place! I'm Reelum Bookwright! My uncle owns this store, but he is, um... away!" Then she gets serious and leans on the railing. "I am sorry to hear of your loss. Were they dear friends, or recent acquaintances?"
She smiles at Jorin. "We've an excellent treatise on the history of northern clans and the Bitter Shore, just over there by the window." She indicates a large coffee-table type volume. "Haven't had a chance to restore it yet, waiting on some authentic pigments. Lots of pictures though..." she trails off and turns back to Hildigrim.
If Jorin looks over, he sees that the book has clearly been in a fire. It is not too damaged, but smoke has marred the cover somewhat.
It begins to dawn on you all that this place has a little bit of a smoky smell to it. And on second look, the ink Reelum was wiping off might have been soot.
Drusk sees that the books he has been looking over all bear marks of damage somehow, mostly fire, but some are water damaged, too.
It seems that all the books on this side of the rail have seen better days.

"A little of both," Hildigrim says, a bit of a laugh in his voice. He clears his throat, attempting to get serious. "I'm not really a study of any one subject, but lately, I've been interested in the topic of strategy. My friends and I have been involved in some scuffles — all lawful, I assure you — and I thought I'd like to feel a little more prepared in the future. Strategy and perhaps intrigue. Have you anything you think my interest me?"
After Hildigrim gets answered, Drusk will ask if there are any introductory books on house/inn repair, brewing, and/or herbalism.

At the Reelum's mention of the Bitter Shore, a wide smile splits Jorin's face. "Ah, the Bitter Shore. I am from the Frost Hills myself, but I once crewed a boat out of Waterdeep. We sailed far north to the Trackless Sea where we hunted the large beasts that swim there." He leans on the rail he was about to help Hildigrim over and continues, "The oils sucked from their wiggling jellies sell for quite a price, or so the captain told me."
"We had been hunting several weeks, the hold of the ship had grown fat, and so we turned our sails south. The very first night of the return saw us beset by a raiding ship -- a long boat of my northern cousins. Aye, likely from the Bitter Shore." He says with a nod, as though the thought had just occurred to him, "They boarded us, intent on cutting threads and taking the spoils of our hunt, but upon seeing me they offered to settle it in the old way."
Jorin's eyes light up and his voice raises in intensity, "They made us a circle there on the deck, the guttering fire of torchlight lapped at our oiled skin. For what their champion lacked in age, he made up for in size and enthusiasm. We locked hands. By the eight, was he strong! He forced me to a knee, but my thread was long and that night was not the night it would be cut. I roared and felt the bones of his left hand crack. He let go and I dove forward, wrapping around his waist!" Jorin lunges forward, his arms grappling an invisible opponent.
"My grasp was good and I lifted him high off the deck, then brought him crashing down while the crews from both boats cheered on."
Jorin stands back up and again leans on the rail. "With the contest over, in keeping with tradition, we shared a feast, or, at least as much of a feast as we could muster. When we got back to port, the captain gave me double pay and thanked me for a job well done."
"Aye, that night I enjoyed a fine Arabellan Dry, and even finer company."
Reelum blinks at Jorin, after his tale. Then she turns her attention back to Hildigrim.
"Well, I've got a book or three on tactics in warfare," she looks at the ceiling, "And maybe one on fencing..." Then she looks down and locks eyes with Hildi. "But we're restoring a copy of Millwan's Get Thee Before Me: How to get the drop on friends and enemies, for a client. Perhaps he and you might share an interest in the topic. I should be most willing to put you in touch..?"
Spoiler for Hildi and his awesome Passive Perception (the rest of you can read it too, but your characters don't notice)...
Reelum wears a lot of jewelry, as it turns out, among them several rings that seems to made of different metals. At the end of her sentence above, she taps on the railing with one of her fingers. Five times. It is the finger wearing a golden ring fashioned to look like a dragon.
During the pause, Drusk asks about brewing or inn building, and Reelum sighs. "We just got a few books like that, up in front," she waves to somewhere among the stacks by the window. "Should still smell pretty smoky."

Hildigrim watches Jorin with rapt attention the whole of his tale. When the barbarian finishes and Reelum begins speaking to him again, it takes great effort for the halfling to pull his eyes away from the human. In fact, he misses what she is saying until she locks eyes with him. "That ... that sounds very interesting," Hildigrim says, his attention returning to the task at hand. His eyes stray to the gnome's tapping hand.

Then, blinking, Hildigrim says, "Oh, I have these books." He reaches into his pack and withdraws a book, then another, then a third. "Not this one," he says, putting the first back into his pack. He then looks at the book he holds in his right hand. It is bound in dark leather. He stares at it for a few heartbeats, then turns to Jorin and Drusk. "This was Mrs. Brinarei's. I'm not sure I'm ready to part with it yet." Without putting that book away, he offers the other book — the spellbook they brought back from the sewers — to Reelum. "How much would you give us for this one?"
OOC > Yesterday I existed in like fugue state, it was weird.
For Hildi...
Her other rings are made of copper and silver. You believe she has indicated that if you want her to put you in touch with the owner of the book above, it will cost you five (taps) gold dragons.
Reelum takes Hildi's books, and flips through them. "Oh, spell books... yeah, I guess we could take them off your hands. I'll have to have them evaluated, I can't read 'em." She pushes the books aside, pulls a sheet of paper over and an ink pen, and writes a few lines, a receipt of sorts, and holds it out to Hildi. It is written in gnomish. "Any interest in that other thing?"
When Drusk goes to look at the stack she indicated about inn-keeping, they are pretty burned, but after just a cursory glance, they seem to be pretty on topic. If Drusk would like to investigate them more closely, he should make an Intelligence (Investigation) check.
