As you survey the scene before you, you're able to make out distinct figures. Robed humanoid figures are carrying torches, running from building to building to set them ablaze. Others are running into buildings, seemingly carrying things out as they leave. There are shorter beings, which you recognize as kobolds, who seem solely focused on terrorizing the townsfolk. It would appear that while the human attackers have a specific goal in mind, the kobolds have been reduced to nothing more than a blood-thirsted frenzy. You notice that as you would approach from the road, the first building on your left is seemingly untouched. The three behind it however are almost completely engulfed in flame.
The sight you see is almost too much to bear. Amongst all the burning chaos and screams, nothing in particular catches your eye.
-Do you wish to enter the town at this time? How do you want to go about it?-
"I think it might benefit us to get off the road at this point, those are kobolds and they've gone absolutely nuts here. We're outnumbered anyway, surprise is probably our best bet." He nodded towards a building in their sightline, slightly south of the road."That might make decent cover while we try and get a better idea of what's going on."
"Aryn is right, if we stay out here we won't be any help to anyone. If we can stop the humans before they burn this city to the ground we can make a difference" comments Ba'lor, looking concerned by the sight before him."We might even be able to capture one of the arsonists if they come to that building, give us some idea of what they're up to here."
A troubled look crosses the dwarf face, but he nods all the same in agreement. If he can spy a window just out of possible sight of the street from at least the kobold or cultist perspective, he motions an intent to go there. "If at least two of us can get inside quickly, we'll ambush one of the cloaks when they come in to loot the place." He suggests, gesturing to the thus far untouched building. As eager as he is to move, Gimmor holds back for Celeste's sake, seeing at least after the fact a thoughtful look on her. Though if she looks to married to the idea of standing out and mulling things over, he clicks to catch her attention, and motions again for them to move before leading the proverbial charge ahead.
Celeste looks at them, listening to their words. She hadn't been able to pinpoint anything going on, the sight having been horrible to watch. But even so, she nods at the idea. "Yeah, a surprise attack would benefit us the most." She agrees, clasping the gem on her choker once more and taking a deep breath. Trying to draw out some confidence and strength in order to go along with the forming plan.
There is in fact, an east facing entrance to the building that you can see. From this angle, the building appears to be a long house, perhaps used a storeroom of some kind for the town. On the east wall, there is a short deck that leads to a door, flanked on both sides by small windows. Currently, none of the attackers seem to be paying attention to your direction of approach.
-All make a stealth check please, Ba'lor and Aryn with disadvantage due to scale\chain mail-
The group makes its way towards the house, creeping along the side of the road through some light brush. As you draw closer to the house, five humans burst around the corner of the far side, quickly making their way along the north of the building. A heavily injured man and three children round the second corner to get around to the east side. A woman armed with a broken spear and shield takes up the rear, her back towards you as she faces down an advancing band of kobolds.
While you are initially unnoticed, Ba'lor's boot crunches down on abranch, cracking it in half with a loud snap. Four kobolds(2,5,6,7) immediately take notice of your group, and break off from the woman to start advancing towards you. A winged kobold at the rear of the group launches 30 feet into the air, hefting a medium sized rock.
kobold group 1(2,5,6,7) - 20 kobold group 2(1,3,4) - 11 Female Villager - 5 winged kobold - 16
Kobold(2)'s thrust is nimbly dodged by Grimmor, who avoids the blade with ease. Aryn quickly slings his shield from his back, knocking Kobold(5)'s attack aside.
Kobold(6) and (7) move into position to attack with their slings, flinging rocks at Grimmor and Ba'lor respectively.
Kobold(6)Attack - 9 Damage - 6 Kobold(7)Attack - 16 Damage - 4 A rock zips past Grimmor's head, but doesn't hit anyone. Ba'lor is struck by Kobold(7)'s projectile, which glances off his shoulder with a loud thwack.
The Winged Kobold hovers over the Female Villager and drops its rock down on her.
Winged Kobold Attack - 17 Damage - 8
The rock drops with surprising speed, and the villager, unaware of the winged creature above her, is struck in the head and falls to the ground unconscious. One of the children turns in time to see her fall, and lets out an anguished cry.
Celeste, unable to discern the amount of kobolds with them all together grasps her gem and makes a quick gesture with her hand. Softly muttering an incantation under her breath she casts Sleep in between Kobold 4 and Kobold 7. Aiming to knock down the majority of the kobolds quickly.
A 40 foot diameter globe of soft snowflakes materialize in the air and rains down on most of the kobolds as Celeste'sspell takes hold. The Winged Kobold, and Kobolds(1,3,4,6) are lulled to sleep.
The Winged Kobold falls from the sky, taking 15 damage as it hits the ground, a loud crunch follows and its neck is bent at an unnatural angle. The other four Kobolds drop their weapons and collapse onto the ground.
With no time to react, Kobold(5) is caught completely off guard by Aryn'sattack. His blade pushes clean through the Kobold's throat, and with a quick slashing motion he pulls the sword out. Blood flies through the air as the Kobold falls to the ground, its head only barely still attached to its torso.
