This will be a pretty relaxed rules thread, as far as D&D goes, but I'd like to take some homebrew I've been writing for quite some time for a spin, or maybe I'm just itching to keep telling stories there. I guess I'll make what rules there are clear:
-No recruitment required, I don't need your character sheet, I'm trusting you to be honest and play for the fun of the game. Feel free to ask questions about the world that your character would know as you go along. Start posting, start playing.
For the time being, please PM me if you are interested in joining. my answer will probably be 'No, maybe later' at least for a month or two, but I will gladly discuss things with you
- Any new character starts at level one, if you roll for stats, make them in them in the first post with that new character.
-No Homebrew, at first. Play your character, describe them, and if there is something that really fits them, I'll suggest a subclass. Any Official published stuff is good (Yes, CR is fine)
- Despite not posting your character's sheet, you should probably post your stats(HP/AC most important), level, and any of your magic items (when you get them) in any of your posts. If you REALLY want to keep that all a secret.
-One character at a time per person. If you retire a character of your own volition, it will be quite a wait, maybe even forever, if you want to play it again.
Alright, that just about covers that, have this brief post about basic lore, I got some more stuff in the back, but I'm kind of building as I go. Imagination goes a long way. After that, I will post the starting zones, any some important tidbits of information
Lepollad or Corvidae? It depends on who you ask. Leopold, who first conquered the continent long ago after the ascent of The Tower, named the continent Leopoldland, but years of dialect changes have rendered it as such. Corvidae, the city at the center of the continent, has earned it's respect from foreigners who have transformed it into the center of ground based trading across the continent. In fact, the entire continent was in quite the stagnant period before it was discovered by travelers. Now, word has spread all across the planes about a mysterious tower that any wish of any who are worthy to reach its maximum. Many have already tried and failed. Several adventurers have decided to take up arms assisting local factions to help them ascend, but none of the factions have made any major moves to storm the tower as a group, as doing so could trigger faction warfare, which the continent has been teetering on the brink of several times. Something, or some conspire, someone has prevented that from happening, however, and they coincide in relative peace, but are fiercly reclaiming whatever they can find from the land. Things could change at any moment, a phrase that anyone in this land would agree with, for if a daring adventurer were to successfully ascend The Tower, or if one of the factions aspiring new members claimed the upper hand, or an explorer recovered one of the lands lost artifacts, or the hierarchy of the domains were to shift...or countless other possibilities hidden just beneath the surface. But, most worryingly, is that maybe, things will change simply at the roll of the dice...
Starting Zones:
The Tower Base/ 'Resolve': A large settlement of adventurers from every walk of life, mostly lived in by poor displaced peoples who thrive on adventurers goodwill. Rosebush, a group of rebels against any tyranny that may arise on Lepollad, have their base here. Built around and partially on the tower.
Corvidae: Very Wealthy, lots of adventurers, close to the tower Currently in celebrations for the upcoming new year. just don't cause trouble, the Caretakers already know.
North Kingdom/Faksimile: A kingdom that has claim to most usable land past Corvidae, but is mostly a single city state. Never got taken by Leopold, no matter how hard he tried, and has unique, and skewed, ideals. The Circle, sometimes called the Holy Circle, has members all around the continent to increase their defenses, consisting of mostly northerners, but they'll hire mercenaries if they get the job done. Doesn't like races other than Humans, Elves, Halflings, Dwarves in the inner city, unless they are nobles or notable traders. They consider their bonds with the Domains and Aspects very important. Also consists of Glanyrafon, a city hanging in a gargantuan sinkhole, which has a prestigious wizard college and unique technology; it also rains near constantly, so lots of aquatic races have made homes there.
Southern Empire/Saisei: Leopolds empire, or at least what's left of it. Consists of unified providences of Daimyo (Feudal Landowners) who pledge allegiance to a single shogun emperor. Many providences have not pledge any allegiance, are made up of barbarian tribes, or Daimyos get into an occasional spat, so they are in a civil war. The providences are populated with races of all shapes and sizes, as they mixed and intermingled greatly during Leopolds War, they are very open minded, as long as you’re not from the North. Their technology pretty advanced, but they are also very traditional. They lack greatly in magical expertise, but their Samurai in combination with advanced weaponry are a terrifying force. The old magic should not be underestimated, however.
The Cardinal Ports: Four port cities in each cardinal direction. Filled to the brim with outsiders making new homes, all hubs for sea trade. In the north Blueport builds the ships, In the east, Greenport guides them, in the south, Redport commands them, and in the west, Blackport arms them. Blueport and Southport are similar to their nearby cities, Blackport is filled with rouges and tough company, and Greenport is a homely, quiet fishing town. Each town has a school that trains specialized faction members in their craft. They are the only towns where you can access their newest tech: airships; if you have the gold, of course.
Dragon's Horn: An extremly wealthy kingdom in the desert to the northeast. You cannot start in Dragon's Horn. Do not go to Dragon's Horn.
(Post your starting location in your first post. Good Luck, Have Fun. If I suddenly can't manage this I'll let you know. Try not to make too many posts between mine.)
So its kinda like a whole world to interact with and go through, with lots of other people? How many will you take? Will it be expansive in a similar vein as the pbp colosseum done by "BDaddly" on here? Just asking, because you may need help with a lot of things. Im willing to check things out but it may move slowly.
Wait, so just to be clear, do you already have your players, or are you looking for more players to join? Your game isn't set as "recruiting", but the way your post is read does seem like you're hoping just about any player may try to join since you put the rules for entering right there. I'd be very excited if I am allowed a chance in playing as well, but it feels like I should be asking that first before trying anything.
Yup, just feel free to jump in whenever. I'll set it to recruiting if that makes things more clear. Also, yeah the world is quite expansive, but I think uncovering it as you is part of the fun. I'll give you more once you get started, and I'll make sure everyone has a quest to follow once they get started.
Also, everyone is in the world at the same time, and I'll take as many as I can get for now.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Okay, great. I'd love to keep a character sheet for my character throughout the game, but if you're not going to be making a campaign page, I guess I'll just link to that character sheet in all, or at least most, of my posts. Anyways, here's the character I came up with: (I had it all prepared and was just waiting to hear a confirmation before I sent it.)
Noldeme doesn't remember the entirety of her life. Her first memory is 7 years old, when, at 18, she woke up inside a pirate ship, captured to work in favor of the captain against her will. An older man who found himself in the same situation as hers was the person who taught her some of the basics that got her up to the task of living in that harsh environment.
One day, the ship got attacked, and both she and the man that helped her were treated as just another part of the crew to the attacking ship, which put their lives in danger. As the pirate ship sank to the bottom of the ocean Noldeme pulled on the strength she didn't know she had as an Aasimar as up to this point she assumed herself to be human, and with it, she managed to save herself and almost save her friend.
After being surrounded by grief, Noldeme gave up on the life on the seas, until she came up to try it again, months later, and from then up to this point, her life has been based on that, sailing ships and doing all sorts of works for more lawful crews than the ones she met in her first experiences. Yet, there was another surprise for her about herself. A calling of a patron she didn't know she had has been trying to lead her to the way of adventure for something bigger than herself.
Personality: On the current day, Noldeme has grown with a lot more experience with the seas, and the sailor's ways rubbed off on her pretty well. Rash, but still kind when she wants to be, she grew to hide the innocence that comes with not having a lot of experience with the world, by putting a tough act, and that's how you'll most likely find her behaving around other peers.
Starting Town: Obviously, it'll be one of the port cities you pointed out. Most likely, it'll be Greenport since that fits with the character the best.
Backstory: Kita’s father Heremod is from Corvidae but she was born and raised in Saisei after he emigrated there. He is an anomaly as he is the only gaijin samurai. He was granted this honour after he saved the life of the daimyo, and continued to prove his worth, valour and honour. Heremod married a local girl and they had a daughter: Kita. When she was old enough she took up the ways of the samurai, following in her father’s footsteps. She is trained in the way of the niten warrior (two weapon fighting) like her father. Now she is ready to go out and prove herself, as is the tradition. What better place than The Tower that her father told her so many tales about when she was growing up.
Noldeme Caskmaw: Greenport is a quiet place, surrounded by lush green mountains on all sides, and an impenetrable reef on all others, only passable by the finest navigators who call themselves Green Turtles, who are trained in this very town. Being a sailor of fair repute, you are elligible to become one, but that goes for any of the Cardinal Ports sub-factions.
Trouble has been brewing in the mountains, and your Patron, as it likes to call itself, has been pushing you there, into danger. "A piece of me is there...find it, and be rewarded...it belongs to you." The town has been looking for help on the matter to, as adventurers don't stop here often. You are more well qualified then most; your patron's gifts have helped you more often then not when the seas got rough, along with your combat training, but you're still inexperienced. You have heard that the Grand Turtle, should becoming within a few days to help remedy the situation, but your patron has made the issue sound more urgent.
You are currently at the docks, your work on shipping vessels has also earned you a place to rest each night. It is quite cold, but winter is almost over, and some merrymaking has been going on to celebrate the oncoming new year, but even then the docks are the most crowded place. There are waves behind you, and mountains ahead of you.
Noldeme isn't one to hesitate, but thanks to the strangeness of receiving an order from her patron to run into danger headfirst, she saw herself double-guessing the decision to leave, and that went for a full week. The promise of a reward, and her general carelessness as a motto for life, would be the things that might eventually lead the Aasimar away from the town even before the Grand Turtle arrives a few days from now. Currently, she's doing something very unusual to her, trying to be careful and get information about the way she'll travel before she leaves.
(Since I don't have all the information about the town, I'm assuming there's a way that she can talk to commoners, or to people at a tavern to understand what she may find about the way to the mountains, or what are the problems in the mountains.)
Kita : You've finally arrived. You look up, and see the tower stretch endlessly into the sky. No story has quite done it the justice of seeing it in person. However, you never thought a place that filled you with awe and hope would be surrounded by those who seem quite so devoid of it. Nevertheless, you are here to prove yourself.
You are currently in a crowded sector of Resolve, where people are trying to sell you what wares they can, or simply begging for coin. There are plenty of adventurers around, most pay you no mind, but some of them seem to be keeping a close eye on you. Perhaps these are the Rosebush members you've heard of.
Race: Variant Human (increased strength and dexterity by one and took shield master feat)
Background: Acolyte
Backstory: Zacharias was born at a compound of humans about half a day's journey from Resolve. The compound is self-sufficient and secretive. No one enters and very few ever leave. Zacharias was taken from his parents as soon as he was weened and raised by the collective. He knows who they are, but they are no more special to him than the others. The compound is very much like a convent. The focus of their devotion is Ilmater. In his early teens, Zacharias felt Ilmater was encouraging him to become a missionary. As very few missionaries were ever released from the compound, Zacharias was challenged in his belief. He never wavered, and the compound began the special process of preparing Zacharias to leave. Finally, during his 20th year, he left the compound and journeyed to Resolve. His goal is to seek to offer aid and relief and words of comfort to those in pain, who are oppressed, and otherwise in great need. He will encourage them to endure their pain, suffering, and abuse, for good things come to those who wait. He has been encouraged to halt and relieve the suffering of others, and to take it on himself if he must.
Personality: Zacharias always has a positive attitude. His eyes are bright. He smiles almost always. He feels he has been blessed, and it is his calling to bring the blessing of Ilmater to the masses.
Description: Bronze skin, dark hair, gold eyes, 5'11", 180 lbs, wears silver chain mail, and carries a shield with symbol of Ilmater on it and a flail.
Starting Town: Resolve
Beginning acts: Zacharias will first seek those in the poorer areas to minister to them, putting their needs ahead of his own.
(DirtyDogP's character): You've heard and seen the Tower by now, might as well check it out. This whole having whatever wish you want granted seems like a pretty good deal.
Greenport:
Noldeme: You decide to ask around for information on how to best head up the mountain. Some people warn you about the trouble that you've already heard, but go into greater detail. "Ah yes, a brief squall blew in not too many nights ago, and ever since then wildlife has been acting strangely." Says an old fisherman. "There's an old trail near the northeast part of town that would be a good place to go if you want to see what's going on."
You imagine there are some other people or places you could ask, but you'll have to keep your ears open. If you wish to do so, please make an Investigation check.
DM, I finally added the character to the rolls post (#10), but your post still works with it.
Over the first tenday of his ministry to the poor of Resolve, talk of the Tower continually fills Zacharias's ears. The poor speak of the many adventurers traveling to it. The promises it holds tug at his heart. How much good he could do in Ilmater's name if he can discover its power. He decides to check it out.

Pito is wandering the Resolve, keeping an eye out for a potential for action. He’s got his eye on taking the tower someday, but he knows not to put the cart before the horse.
If you are still taking players I would like to join. I will roll for stats first and post my character when I can get on with something other then my phone.
When I have more time I will come up with more of his backstory but I would like to have him start in Resolve as he is a disgraced soldier that made the pact to gain magic power in order to become famous and hide his shame. He went there since it seemed like a place to hide amongst the crowds.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Noldeme decides to stay a little longer. She already had a bit of a plan, after receiving the information from the fisherman, so it was a matter of seeing what else she could gather, just a little extra information to help as she proceeds along on her journey.
Leshanna is an up-and-coming bounty hunter. Her people live in the Shadows, seeking out those who have run from justice, and returning them to face whatever their crimes have in store for them. She has just finished her latest hunt, locating a goblin thief and returning him to the guards to face the punishment for his crimes.
She is a pretty raven-haired, and pale-skinned, elf. She wears black studded leather, has twin short swords at her sides, with a longbow slung over her shoulder and a quiver of arrows within easy reach. Her cloak and boots are also black as midnight. Her movements are graceful and nearly silent without even really looking to have to try at it.
Starting Zone: (Fine with DM picking) Otherwise go with The Tower Base.
Zacharias: You've been helping the people here the best you can. There are so many, even with the help of Rosebush, you can only do so much. During your time here, you've seen many adventurers come and go, but very few people have acutally entered the tower. Not too many days ago, you heard worrysome tales of one of the settlers who, with nothing left to lose, headed into the tower, never to return. It seems that a lot of your efforts here have been trying to prevent similar incidents. However, the power still intrigues you, somewhat, as it intrigues many others, for if even one were to make it to the top, they could be rid of these problems.
Pito: Your keeping an eye out for anything going on in Resolve, today seems a bit busier than usual, just at a glance. Make a perception check.
Halyseris: You've been laying low here for quite some time. There are plenty of faces to blend in with, so don't imagine any outsiders will recognize you. However, Rosebushmembers have occassionaly stopped and asked you questions, not recognizing you. One of them, somehow able to recognize you as a soldier, seems to have taken intrest in you, perhaps they are interested in your talents. Today seems busier with adventurers than usual.
Greenport:
Noldeme: It's not much, but it's something. Your instinct of heading to the local tavern payed off somewhat, as a drunk tavern patron responds "Aye, I headed up there not too long ago, nearly died. Those damn *Hick* animals, gave me a nasty scar, see. " She pulls back her arm, revealing some small marks. Another patron nearby responds "Lani, not that arm, that was from your fishing incident a year ago." She then rolls up her other sleeve to reveal a varity of marks and scratches that are scabbing over. The wounds don't look too bad, and passive insight says that she might be hyperbolizing a bit.
Blackport:
Leshanna: You fit into this place quite a bit better than you expected. You think that people might mistake you for a Black Dragon, one of the privateer faction members here. Might be quite the boon and help you get some work done. You are currently at "The Shady Lamppost", a popular tavern, which has been easy enough to figure out is a well known gang headquarters of "The Night Before". However, nobody seems to be bothered by this fact, as far as you know, there are lots of gangs around this place. Once again...very easy to find work for someone of your talents.
Halyseris will watch the person that has seemingly taken an interest in him, keeps his weapons hidden seven though if someone were to look close enough they would notice that he carries several on him which include multiple daggers, a crossbow and an exotic looking spear. While there are no of him obvious signsbeing a warlock, the half elf does have a strange marking on his hand that is a sign of his pact.
Knowing that he will need to start earning money soon to pay his way, Halyseris will look for adventuring work of some sort.

Sitting at a table in a corner of the room, Leshanna takes in the current patrons of the tavern. Most seem to give her a glance, but then mind their own business as she coolly stares back at them to make sure they know she is not looking for company of the romantic sort. Her black hair and black garb doesn't appear to be attracting too much notice here. When the serving girl stops by she looks up at the woman and says, in a soft, but quite musical, voice, "I'll take a glass of wine." Her voice is emotionless and causes the serving girl to stare at her for a moment before she moves off to get the requested item. While waiting for her wine, Leshanna tries to consider where to go next. It seems she should be able to find some sort of work here at this port, so she will probably hang around here to see if anything pans out. Just then the wine is brought back and Leshanna curtly nods to the serving girl, passing over the required coins, then waving the girl away impatiently.
While continuing to help to needy, Zacharias begins asking questions about the tower, especially to the members of Rosebush he comes in contact with. It is always under the pretense of worry for the people, but Zacharias's interest is growing. The possibilities ...

If you are still taking players I would like to join. I will roll for stats first and post my character when I can get on with something other then my phone.

Halyseris is a half elf Hexblade Warock.
He has 10 Hp and an AC of 17.
When I have more time I will come up with more of his backstory but I would like to have him start in Resolve as he is a disgraced soldier that made the pact to gain magic power in order to become famous and hide his shame. He went there since it seemed like a place to hide amongst the crowds.

Noldeme decides to stay a little longer. She already had a bit of a plan, after receiving the information from the fisherman, so it was a matter of seeing what else she could gather, just a little extra information to help as she proceeds along on her journey.

Name: Leshanna Naïlo
Race: Elf (Shadar-kai)
Class: Fighter
Background: Urban Bounty Hunter
Backstory:
'Resolve':
However, Rosebush members have occassionaly stopped and asked you questions, not recognizing you.
