You've heard rumors of a dragon in the Sword Mountains south of Neverwinter. The rumors lead you to Phandalin, a small town built over the ruins of larger city. The whole area used to be populated and now is full of ruins, some better known than others.
Character creation: start at level 1. No Eberron, no unearthed arcana, no magic the gathering. All other 5e sources accepted. You can roll for stats, use the standard array or point buy.
Gameplay: completely in this forum. Try to post at least once per day, let me know if you are taking time off.
Post race, class and backstory here. If you want, link a character sheet. I'll wait until tomorrow, then select characters randomly (using the dice roller here) and start a campaign thread.
Backstory: His birth of silver and gold, he deems himself a figure destined for high purpose. When the news of a dragon lands on him, Xarroth claims it his time to shine in the glory of Bahamut!
Edgar was not always so well put together. As a young man he caused troubles with a few of the boys his age. When his father got fed up, Edgar was put into religious studies to help straighten him out. This did work for some time, but trouble did still follow. When his antics did go too far, he was cast out from the monastery and put on trial for defacing monuments. He had pled guilty and requested to serve in the military in stead of being locked away. In his time in the military, he did try to reconnect with his religious side as well as learning combat.
Backstory: Lothlién was born in a wood elf community, deep in the woods of Farreach. He never met his father, only knowing that he was a wanderer and didn't spend much time around before getting his mom pregnant and vanishing. As a kid, small signs of his sorcerous origins were already showing up, things like tiny balls of light or fire suddenly appearing around him when he was overwhelmed by any emotions. This was enough to have other kids spreading rumors that he's father was, indeed, a Dragon (which is unlikelly, but who really knows?). In his teen years, he was playing with some friends when they were attacked by a small pack of wolves. He barely remember what happened, but the other boys tell stories about how he shot flame, magic, lightning or whatever else, killing an wolf and scaring the hell out of the others. He didn't have a rough life, but he also never felt like that was his place, and that feeling grew further after that episode. A few months after turning 21, Lohtlién took off, in a search for self-knowledge through adventuring
Kharnyl Deepdelver is a young dwarf of just 40 years. He has been tasked by his Temple's Hammer of War with helping the Rockseeker brothers establish a strong dwarven presence in the settlement of Phandalin. After years of training as an Unworked, he is eager to finally be regarded as a Tempered Forgesmith of the Temple and this mission could be his big shot. The gold dwarves if the shining south have been fortunate and prosperous, but with the Thundering and the collapse of the Great Rift in the Soellplague, their numbers have grown untennable in the EastRift city of Eartheart. It is up to the young clerics to expand the reach of the dwarves beyond the rift and the temple elders have heard some enticing reasons from the Rockseeker brothers for sending one to the frontier town of Phandalin.
Name: Grace Wilson Race: Variant Human Class: Rogue Background: Having always wanted to travel the world, Grace enlisted with a mercenary company in Neverwinter as soon as she was old enough. The majority of her work consisted of guarding trading caravans across the North, during which she gained a reputation for a keen eye and a quick shot. However, her company has been receiving gradually less work and Grace has been looking for opportunities elsewhere. On her latest job, she received an injury which forced her to divert to Phandalin while the rest of the caravan continued on.
Horatio Hirschfeld - Squire imbued with fae powers, in the Coliseum of Conquest (W2/L1) DM for Reavers of Harkenwold, and sometimes The Fighting Grounds of the Coliseum
Backstory: Acolyte, a follower of Tyr, blessed with the raw power of law and order. Seeking to right wrongs in b the world using logic and reasoning and, when necessary, the awesome power of arcane magic.
Aldric is more of an outcast than an outlander. His simple fondness for animal life was not appreciated in the more rough-and-tumble world in which he was raised. Still, his fierce hatred of the undead and his battle prowess won him some respect, if not affection, among his people. He prefers the company of others, though, and has made a very few friends among the farmsteads in the hills near Phandalin, where he is wont to visit.
Backstory: I was orphaned when I was young. Learned to survive in the city streets. I managed to befriend a city guard who took me along on foraging runs into the local forests. Got really good at tracking, he showed me how the crossbows that the guard used works, gotten pretty good at them. Now I need to stop leeching off others and make a living for myself. Figured I'd use my tracking skills and hunt bounties, and help others
Silva Mist - Druid 1 Character Sheet (4-5 years tabletop/D&D experience with some DM experience) (2nd play-by-post) (able to post most every day)
The Mist druids live outside the Mere of Dead Men. Being a small tribe they do not usually venture far from home - but when the Arch Druid spotted a dragon flying over near-by mountains she knew a young tribesmen would have to investigate. Silva was chosen to leave the tribe and head north to learn more about this possible threat to the land.
Silva made her way to a near-by farming community who directed her north to Phandalin. Along the road she saw more people than she had seen in her whole life. She was advised by her Arch Druid to keep to herself as folks of the modern world would not understand the Way of the Mist. Silva endured the long trip north without incident and finally arrived in Phandalin (the largest city she's ever seen).
Silva is standing the middle of town looking around at all the people - she obviously has no idea where to start her adventure.
