Out of the Abyss
Captured by the drow! You wouldn’t wish this fate upon anyone, yet here you are — locked in a dark cave, the cold, heavy weight of metal tight around your throat and wrists. You are not alone. Other prisoners are trapped in here with you, in an underground outpost far from the light of the sun. Your captors include a cruel drow priestess who calls herself Mistress Ilvara of House Mizzrym. Over the past several days, you’ve met her several times, robed in silken garments and flanked by two male drow, one of whom has a mass of scars along one side of his face and neck. Mistress Ilvara likes to impress her will with scourge in hand and remind you that your life now belongs to her. “Accept your fate, learn to obey, and you may survive.” Her words echo in your memory, even as you plot your escape.

Bupiddo, a derro altogether less insane and more talkative than most of his kind. Or at least, that's what it seems like.
Prince Derendil, a Quaggoth claiming to be a cursed elf prince. While this seems insane, he does act rather unlike a quaggoth—less growling and trying to kill everything.
Eldeth Feldrun, a shield dwarf from Gauntlgrym. Not the most talkative of the bunch and rather surly, but not blatantly murderous or anything.
Jimjar, a deep gnome who seems to have to take a bet on everything. You've seen him trying to convince others to bet on the flight patterns of a fly.
Ront, an orc with a penchant for picking on those he sees as weaker than him. He tends to avoid those who aren't.
Sarith Kzekarit, a drow accused of murder. You've heard him insisting to the guards that he didn't do it, but he refuses to talk to the rest of you. He just seems resigned to his fate now.
Shuushar the Awakened, a distinctly unusual kuo-toa. He exudes a calm and peaceful aura, and is even calm and accepting of his current imprisonment.
Stool, a lonely and frightened myconid sprout. It hasn't made contact with anyone, it seems to frightened to do so.
Topsy and Turvy, two twin deep gnomes. Turvy (male) constantly mumbles and mutters darkly, while his sister Topsy is much more sociable and translates what her brother is saying.

Brio is a deep gnome with dark skin. Her short dark hair falls down to her shoulders and turns to a slight red at the tips. The little that she has said about her past is full of loss. The fall of her city to the drow and of being separated from her family. During the time she has been a prisoner, she has taken a motherly attitude for the two young deep gnomes. When the guards are not looking, she makes small toys for them, trinkets and such. Brio tends to be quiet, watching, waiting, and learning. She had been lost in the underdark for longer than she can remember before being captured. It has been hard for her to return to talking with others and socializing.
The hairy, shackled beast that the drow brought in just two days ago bears a striking resemblance to Derendil, though it is clearly no Quaggoth. It shares his white hair and stooped posture, but that is where the similarities stop. It has similar proportions to a human, elf, or likewise, though its limbs and digits are elongated. Its face, while mostly covered by long white hair, like a beard, possesses a mouth full of crooked teeth, a small nose, and massive, entirely black eyes. Its body is also covered with white hair, though none is as long as the hair growing off of its face and head. The hair is very different from Derendil's, resembling more human hair than fur. Although its appearance is fearsome, it does not appear to be aggressive. It has not yet spoken these last two days, instead silently regarding the others, listening and watching but not speaking. The closest it has come to interacting with anyone was when Jimjar attempted to place a bet on which of them it would eat first, to which it responded with a combination of a growl and a shout, putting a stop to the gnome's antics.

"Ignorance is bliss, and you look absolutely miserable."
At first Knox is a little odd among the prisoners, as he still appears to be covered in armour.
Not that the drow guards don't try several times to remove it, but it appears bound to his body.
It becomes apparent with time that not all of the metal, stone, and fibrous wood, is in fact armour, but that Knox is in fact an artificial man.
Knox is 6ft tall, when he is allowed to stand, and is well built, not over thick, but also not slight of frame.
Knox' face is somewhat skull like and completely devoid of expressive elements.
When the guards finally give up trying to remove his armour and leave, Knox finally begins to interacts with the other prisoners.
When Knox talks his mouth, more like a hinged metal jaw really, doesn't open, a metallic sound just emanates from his head.
He eyes glow very softly with a purple light and when he speaks they flicker slightly brighter, in sync with his speech.
Knox introduces himself to any who ask, explaining that he is in fact a mechanical Gondsman from the High House of Wonders in Baldur’s Gate.
He would also confess that he is a cleric of Gond, if asked.
The rest of the time, Knox spend observing all the strange and unfamiliar races among the population and asking question about anything/everything that is new to him (which is likely a lot).
Knox would take notice of Brio's creation of small trinkets, commenting that Gond's blessing be upon her and giving suggestions that may help with the making.
Knox doesn't appear to sleep at all, always still awake when others fall asleep, and already awake when they rise.
Jhazaal is a small goblin that tends to stay seated in a corner of the cell. He wears the scraps of clothing the drow allowed him to keep. He seems resigned to their fate, really only looking somewhat hopeful when the white-furred bugbear is brought in, but, as that one doesn't seem inclined to break out, he soon figures they are as caught as the rest of them.
Vera is a tall, lithe and athletic looking Half-Elf Drow with dusky grey skin, long and bright silver hair partially braided and fierce purplish/grey eyes. She also has a small scar above her right eyebrow. Vera was the last prisoner thrown into the cell; at first furiously pacing back and forth talking out loud to herself and her Drow captors before quickly settling down and seating herself away from any of the others confined with her. Seemingly despondent, she keeps to herself for the most part though she does politely respond to anyone who calls on her though her answers are vague and brief.
Hawthorn is human, and by looks, he does not seem to be any special. No muscles that speak for great skill with the blade or long beard hinting at a wizardly past. He looks to be in his early 30s, has brown hair, with some gray hairs showing. He is rather tall, slender, waring simple clothes: brown, worn through pants and top with a leather jacket over it. He seems a bit absent, sitting with his hands folded behind his neck. Occasionly his lips twich ever so slightly.
(Couple of things to note—spellcasters also don't have any foci or component pouches, and you're all wearing manacles. This leaves you all restrained, but your speed and other movement works as normal.)
All the prisoners are currently being held in one slave pen, a room hewn from stone inside of a stalactite. The pen's only entrance is a gate with a heavy padlock on it, which most of the guards carry a key to. There are also powerful magical wards on the pen which keep any spellcasters from casting spells within it, although it doesn't suppress magic cast outside of it. For those of you who've been there longer, our schedule has stayed pretty much the same the entire time. Each day you're split into 3 roughly equal groups, and do hard labor for a third of the day. This labor consists of tasks that run the daily life of the outpost (such as laundry and preparing food), and occasionally just completely pointless tasks the drow set for their amusement. Your sleep in the slave pens has also been fitful, you often awake from nightmares of dark shadows, endless mazes, and oily tentacles. The drow and their quaggoth servants treat you with plain contempt, but don't usually beat you for no reason. It's harder for injured slaves to work, after all.
You've seen somewhere around twenty drow around the outpost, as well as a dozen or so quaggoths and several giant spiders. Ilvara Mizzrym is the commander of the outpost, an ambitious drow priestess who treats everyone and everything below her (which in this case is pretty much everything) with the contempt she feels it deserves. There are 3 other drow of some note, 2 warriors and another priestess. The priestess seems to be Ilvara's assistant, although her attitude towards her seems to have cooled as of late. One of the drow warriors was recently scarred, with horrifying facial wounds and two missing fingers. He seems to be out of favor with Ilvara now, although he was her captain of the guard before. A younger drow warrior took his place, and he seems to delight in his predecessor's misfortune.

The white-maned beast is already pacing the room when the others wake up, a ritual that it performed last morning, and one that it shows no intention to stop performing. It does not struggle with its bonds, it already tested their strength yesterday, and there is no reason to waste its strength again. Unless interrupted, it continues pacing until breakfast is brought.

"Ignorance is bliss, and you look absolutely miserable."
Knoxsits totally motionless against the wall watching white-maned creature. He has been watching since the creature started his pacing, but there are no outward signs that he is awake or asleep or paying any attention.
Knoxsuddenly starts speaking.
"What purpose does the pacing server, is it, ahh...exercise?"
"I have heard that this is something organic creatures do to enhance their physical bodies."
"Are you attempting to enhance your walking capabilities?"
Vera wakes up the following morning and begins a much-practiced warm-up routine, first starting with static stretches before moving on to more complex movements and positions. Her mood much improved from the previous day, she uses this time to take better stock of all of her fellow prisoners that she barely noticed earlier in her depressed daze, noticing a few noteworthy. Seeing the (man? beast?) pacing back and forth, she wonders to herself I don't know what you are...but you'll be helpful...; for you see when Vera woke up that morning, she had only one all-consuming thought: Escape.
