Greenfield, a vast and open space filled with rolling hills and fields as far as the eye can see. To the west lays Candlekeep, along the Coastway near the Cloakwood, the Wood of Sharp Teeth, and Beregost. To the east the Sunset Mountains rise on the horizon with Iriabor and Easting in the foothills. The north holds Berdusk toward the edge of the Reaching Woods. South takes any traveler to Amn, with its southern peaks and hills off in the distance, if one chose to travel that way. The most common site, however, is Greenest – a modest town nestled smack in the center of the Greenfields, typically quiet and not noteworthy aside from being a stop along the road for any adventurer or caravan that travels for more profitable pastures.
Today, however, there is a sight not commonly seen off in the distance. A large dragon looms over the town of Greenest, visible clearly over the horizon from a few miles away. Any traveler or adventurer along the road can catch sight of the beast easily enough, and the sight of smoke in the distance begins to blot the sky. This far out the sounds are quieter, not quite easily heard, but still distinctly the screams and cries of fighting, pillaging—destruction.
The dragon roars, loud enough to shake the land, trembling the earth with a thunderous cry. It lands in the city center; a spark of light can be seen from this distance with the crackling boom of thunder. A second later, a heavy beat of wings, and the dragon once more takes to the sky to circle over the town. It arches up into the slowly dwindling daylight. Another distant roar, another crackling boom, and the sight of light that arches from the dragon’s form. From this distance one could barely make out the blue coloring to the dragon’s scales.
It has been a long, few days from whichever direction you have traveled. The road is not always kind, not always safe, but really this is something else—a dragon attack, on an otherwise peaceful and commonly traveled route through the Greenfields. Talk about wrong place, right time. Or wrong time and right place? Whichever it is, you have a choice to make.
Coming down from the Sunset mountains after the last... “How long has it been again? At least a year. Since the Mask crossed Helm in the East.” Pardot thinks to himself. The oddly thin, pale, halfling walks softly on the road nibbling a berry from his pack. As he reaches the edge of the vast Greenfields he hefts his well worn wooden shield to his back over his well patched leather backpack. Looking up to the sky he blinks at the sun. Though his people aren’t especially deft at seeing in the dark, it’s strange for him to be traveling in the day. This is when the town will have the shops and merchants open though, and he has some skins to trade for simple supplies.
Hoping he’ll be able to finish his business within the day, though it always seems to take longer, Pardot is suddenly snapped to attention by the BOOM and ROAR coming from ahead of him. Ducking down into the grass he looks ahead. About to head back “It’s really not so important...” he remembers the signs in the stars last from a ten day past. Sighing, but realizing there may be more to this than meets the eye, he stays low and creeps towards the town, while reaching into the pouch at his side and pulling out 3 lightly glowing bullets for his sling.
Walking along the road, Galdrum tinkers with one of his many trinkets. It goes through a different changes before his messing about is interrupted by the sound of the roar of some great beast. "By Mordin's beard what is that rack..." Any words that may have been about to leave him ended as his eyes landed on form of a dragon rampaging over the town.
Every logical part of his mind told him to turn around, make a run for and not look back. Despite the warnings he shook his head, gritting his teeth as he took a few steps forward. "I must be losin me mind..."
Gavoi Keenfinder walked down the road after making a delivery to Candlekeep. Even being a small and scrawny goliath at 6'6, Gavoi was still a towering force along the Forgotten Coasts and would feel safe at times taking nice long walks along the coast and seeing the sights, even while lugging around equipment akin to a scholar. Going around the bend he'd spot the dragon a few ways up the northern way. Running his thickened fingers through his wild blonde locks in stress, he'd quickly clutch his staff and hurry toward the dragon attack in hopes of saving a few lives in the process. As he ran, he'd keep an eye all around to spot any other dragons or hostiles in the area.
Vitre moves deftly, flicking his wrist and deflecting a blow from an imaginary attacker with his wooden rapier. He lunges with a quick step on the road, focusing his energy into the stab the way his master showed him. He would rather be practicing in the yard in Candlekeep than running his master's errand to Greenfield on foot like some commoner. Vitre ended his wizard apprenticeship some months ago, though he family urged him to "continue his tutelage and bring honor to his family". More likely, they wish to avoid the gossip his return would bring to his house in Athktla. One day, they will dare not whisper.
The dragon's roar in the distance jars Vitre back to reality. "Well, this day may prove more interesting than expected."
Vitre releases Pixal, his owl familiar, to the skies and concentrates to see through its eyes to get a better idea of what's going on. Pixal's Perception: 8

Karen hides in a thick bush on a hill tops that overlook the town of Greenest. From her shelter, the town looks peaceful. It doesn't look like a place threatened by the cult of dragons and summoned adventurers to solve their problem.
Karen holds a scroll of summons in her hand. The name on the document is Kaluma the Scarlet. A young warlock just like her. But unlike Karen, the boy stopped breathing days ago.
Kaluma was killed by Kobold bandits on his way to Greenest. Karen found Kaluma's body and took his belongings include his identity.
Karen is just a young girl who has no connection or knowledge of adventurers. For finding the killer of her family, She must wear the face of young warlock to mix in these vagabonds.
Disguising as Kaluma wouldn't be so hard. The document only shows his name, age, the pack with other worldly deity and a note that says he is a ex-criminal with no relative. Also Karen has a very slim body for a teenage girl. If she clads with leather armour and wraps herself in cloak nobody will .......
Karen's thought was cut off by earthshaking Roar. A gust of wind hits the bush and knocks the hood from her face. Looking up the sky and the giant wings that dominants it, Karen was stunned by shock and awe.
Greenest is in chaos. You are one of several who have run toward the madness of a dragon overhead; those visible, people you have passed or been passed by on the road, now join you near the southern entrance to the modest town. You can hear the distant sound of screaming, blades and a cacophonous sound of a raiding party—the dragon looms overhead in the sky and this close you can see streaks of lightning spark from its maw, lance toward the ground. There is smoke and fire and ash in the air to create enough of a haze through the sky.
The road is clear for all the noise. Houses relatively untouched this far on the edge of the town aside from the smoke that still rises from chimneys. The road leads further in toward town, a copse of trees lines a river that winds its way east to west through the southernmost portion of Greenest. It is quiet, at this edge, almost eerily so even with the noise from further in the town to reach your ears.
There are five of you, that you can see here at the edge of town. Unnoticed is a sixth, hidden in the shadows of the eaves of one of the houses as he peers into the growing dark illuminated by streaks of lightning and flames in the distance. For a second each of you take in a breath of the town as realization hits you that this—this is definitely a dragon attack. This is dangerous. This is not a trick of the mind, or a joke, or an illusion. The smoke is real, the sounds are real and these people are in danger.
In that second there is silence and horror that descends upon you, and then noise. Children, screaming. Across your path runs a family of four. Three small kids being ushered by an older man, presumably their father, who has a wound to his side clenched in one hand. At his back is a woman, tall and wielding a spear as she urges him and the children onward, holding her weapon out to defend and attack against a gaggle of kobolds that chase them. They cross right in front of you; the father catches sight of you as they scramble in the growing dark.
“HELP US!”
The man stumbles, one of the children screams. The women lets out a curse as she shoves a kobold to the side and spits out a furious, “Cuth get up!” She doesn’t have time to help him up, too busy trying to keep the kobolds off of their backs. You count seven of them as the rush to surround the family of four.
If you plan to do anything for the family of four, roll initiative at the end of your post.
Thanking the stars for the cover, Pardot sees the kobolds attacking the family. “This is more than a random dragon attack.”He thinks to himself as he puts one of his stones into a sling preparing to launch it towards the nearest kobold.
Seeing the family in danger Baerdin doesn’t think twice about the group of strangers the just popped up around him and charges forward to assist! “Alright! Yer mouth breathin gutter swine ur bout ta have a bad day!”

Gavoi would make it to the town in chaos and come across the family across his way tailed by a horde of Kobolds. The smoke and fire around him could be of use to his benefit...
He'd stand to his full 6'6 height try to look as intimidating as possible as he shouts, "Come! To me!" He roars to the family as he produces his staff and starts to channel the magic deep within his soul.
Galdrum looks up as he heard the sound of the screams, quickly fumbling with his crossbow as he pulled it from his back. With quick movements he slammed a bolt into place, pulling it back until his crossbow clicked. "Watch where you step!" The dwarf calls out as he raised his crossbow, aiming towards the first kobold in sight.

As she is getting closer to the town, realization hits Karen hard. It reminds her that dragon's beauty is double edged sword. Their magnificence usually accompanies with dread and destruction.Karen's eyes catch the sight of fire on the buildings and fear on the face of people. Her nose smells smoke and ozone filing the air. And her ear......
“HELP US!”
The moment she heard someone crying for help, her father's voice echoing through Karen's mind.
(When people are in need, we help them. When people are in danger, we fight for them. We, nobles earn our title not because our blood but because our deed)
Karen moves her cloak and reveals her wings and tail. There are someone screaming and running away from her. But Karen is too focused to notice them. She spreads her wings and starts to run like some waterfowls do before they take flight. Soon she reaches her top speed. Then with big hop and flap, Karen's body are soaring into the air and flying toward the family.
Order of turns: Pardot,Linan Swift, koboldA-G, Gavoi, Galdrum, Baerdain, Vitre, Karen, Cuth (commoner), 3 kids.
This image is a rough layout of the scene:
This particular section of combat will primarily be theater of mind.
The woman breathed a sigh of relief at your intervention. A bit of the strain seemed to leave her for half a second before she squared up at the kobolds that surrounded her and her family. The kobolds all turned to look at you, surprised by the groups intervention. You can catch a bit of a sneer along the snout of one of their lips and already several look ready to pay you back for your interference, whichever it would be. Defend, attack, or rescue? The male, husband, father, grimaced and clenched tighter at his wound while his children clamored around his fallen form, tried to pull him back, with the woman--wife, mother--looked frantic.
This is the start of the first round of combat. Please describe your actions, what you aim to do and who you are targeting. Below a spoiler roll for attack, and roll damage in case the attack hits. On the enemy or NPC turn I will follow those same rules, describe the results of any damage that you have done to each target in turn order, and the actions of the enemy/NPC. If a player has killed a target I will let you know before the enemy or NPC turn so that you may choose your targets. In the spoiler you can list Kobold A, Kobold B and so forth since it is more technical than saying you target the kobold to the left. This way I can assign damage to the appropriate target, but it doesn't clutter any roleplay elements with technical information.
Pardot, being effectively unseen, creeps out from shadows to see the kobolds all clustered together around the village folk. “I hope the human can dodge this. Though the stars do not play favorites.” Thinking this a small shard of ice appears in his palm and he flicks it out towards the kobold most in the middle. As it lands it shatters hitting all those around.
ice knife at KA Attack: 18 Damage: 9 (with advantage for being unseen) Everyone within 5ft must make a dex save of 14 or 4 cold dmg - maybe K: D G F B? And LS?
Pardot's knife is instantly a mess of shattered ice into a mess of kobolds. They scramble, stumbling, trying to duck and weave, and you can see the woman do the same with a curse, twisting to try and protect her family behind her. Several of the kobolds scream in terror, surprised to see a weapon come from the darkness where nothing once seemed to be. The shadows slip away from Pardot's form now, leaving the halfling in plain sight, position clearly given away by the work of magic.
Second post coming shortly. After I have to head off for sleep for work.
Error on my part Linan's ST result is supposed to be 3. Dead: Kobold A, Kobold G Injured: Linan Swift, Cuth Swift
A second kobold goes down as the shattered ice bursts through the group. Shards are ducked as the kobolds let out screams of surprise. The strange woman herself let's out a cry of shock as the ice shards pierce her skin in surprise. Quickly they hoard of creatures seems to come back to themselves as several now turn their focus onto the adventuring party. Two of the remaining kobolds ready their knives and charge into the mess of adventurer's, while another set prepares their slings with narrowed eyes on Pardot. With a yell and an attack with their dagger the two kobolds aim for Gladrum and Gavoi.
Linan Swift Opportunity Attack: 15 to hit; 1piercing damage if succeeds to Kobold D. Opportunity Attack: 10 to hit; 5piercing damage if succeeds to Kobold D. If not dead (will alert after post if any Kobolds die) Kobold D Attack Roll: 6 to hit; 3piercing damage if succeeds to Gavoi. Kobold E Attack Roll: 22 to hit; 3piercing damage if success to Gladrum.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Correcting myself again the 10 to hit was for Kobold E. Dead: Kobold A, Kobold G Injured: Linan Swift, Cuth Swift, Kobold D, Gladrum
The spear in the hands of the woman clips against one of the kobolds as they aim to run past, scoring a long hit along its arm. She lets out a curse as the other three Kobolds shift themselves around her, just out of her reach. One kobold readies its sling to fire toward Karen with a chittering screech. The other two shift themselves until they can get a decent view of Pardot and fire off rocks with their own slings.
Kobold C Attack Roll: 15 to hit; 6bludgeoning damage to Karen if succeeds. Kobold B Attack Roll: 23 to hit; 5bludgeoning damage to Pardot if succeeds. Kobold F Attack Roll: 21 to hit; 3bludgeoning damage to Pardot if succeeds.
Linan cursed and swung her spear around to slice at the kobold closest to her, trying to ignore the bleeding of her own wounds from the shards of now melted ice that had struck her. She spins the spear around, a little bit clumsily, and stabs it out toward the kobold who has his sling focused on Karen with a yell.
Linan Attack Roll: 11 to hit; 5piercing damage to Kobold C if succeeds.
Gavoi, you are up next. Then Gladrum, Baerdain, Vitre, Karen.
Gavoi would be in utter shock at the madness unfolding before him and the damage the kobolds are doing to the villagers.
(They need to get out of here... Now!) He thinks, focusing his magic to his focus and with a twirl and a slam of the staff into the ground.... but then a kobold tried to take a swipe at him. Staring sheepishly at the creature and looking around, he realized everyone was too scattered the others would attempt to help the woman. So he decided to whack the kobold before him with his staff. "Prepare yourself." He says flatly.

The shadows slip away from Pardot's form now, leaving the halfling in plain sight, position clearly given away by the work of magic.
Second post coming shortly. After I have to head off for sleep for work.

Error on my part Linan's ST result is supposed to be 3.
Dead: Kobold A, Kobold G
Injured: Linan Swift, Cuth Swift
Linan Swift Opportunity Attack: 15 to hit; 1 piercing damage if succeeds to Kobold D. Opportunity Attack: 10 to hit; 5 piercing damage if succeeds to Kobold D.
If not dead (will alert after post if any Kobolds die) Kobold D Attack Roll: 6 to hit; 3 piercing damage if succeeds to Gavoi. Kobold E Attack Roll: 22 to hit; 3 piercing damage if success to Gladrum.

Correcting myself again the 10 to hit was for Kobold E.
Dead: Kobold A, Kobold G
Injured: Linan Swift, Cuth Swift, Kobold D, Gladrum
The spear in the hands of the woman clips against one of the kobolds as they aim to run past, scoring a long hit along its arm. She lets out a curse as the other three Kobolds shift themselves around her, just out of her reach. One kobold readies its sling to fire toward Karen with a chittering screech. The other two shift themselves until they can get a decent view of Pardot and fire off rocks with their own slings.
Kobold C Attack Roll: 15 to hit; 6 bludgeoning damage to Karen if succeeds. Kobold B Attack Roll: 23 to hit; 5 bludgeoning damage to Pardot if succeeds. Kobold F Attack Roll: 21 to hit; 3 bludgeoning damage to Pardot if succeeds.
Linan Attack Roll: 11 to hit; 5 piercing damage to Kobold C if succeeds.

Gavoi Attack Roll: 18 to hit, 9 Bludgeoning Damage to Kobold D if succeeds.
