'Forgive me, I will do as you say.' Kerah thinks. Prays, might be more fitting, though that was not exactly a prayer. "Quite a bunch they called for. I wonder just how many of them are in this together. I am Kerah," Kerah reintroduces himself to the new arrivals, "a devout follower of the Frostmaiden." After that, he looks at his hand. He clenches his fingers into a fist. "Tell me please," he whispers, "what will tomorrow's weather be like?" He then opens his hand, revealing a small sensory effect that would tell him the answer.
(OOC: Also, I forgot to ask... What season is it now?)
Today's date is eleasis, 3, 1498 (Equates to August 4th.) For today, the weather started out fair to partly cloudy, with win speeds around 5 Miles Per Hour. Temps started out around 78 degrees.
For tomorrow's forecast... You get a golden orb, that has a brief pattern of rain, then is clouded over with dark and flashes of light, before clearing to a golden orb again. (August 5th's history for the location I am using has fair, then partly cloudy, then light rain, then clearing, then thunderstorm, before becoming fair overnight again. August 5th must have been a bit of a interesting day in Duluth MN in 2019.)
Valor kneels, the reins of Seraph in his hand, and inspects the tracks. "They are trying to hide among the City of the Dead" Valor thinks to himself. "No matter, we will find them, Tyr will guide us," he says to his horse, Seraph. Valor moves to swing back up into his saddle when his Maul begins to glow. A shocked look crosses his face as the light grows brighter. Suddenly the world around him stops and Valor is caught up in the vision.
With the voice of Tyr the Just still echoing in his mind, Valor swings up onto Seraph and rides through the streets until he comes to the Yawning Portal. "The Called" he muses to himself. Valor stops Seraph in front of the infamous tavern and pats Seraph. "Not our first time here eh lad?" he says to the horse. Valor takes Seraph to the stables and pays Tarlgarth the cost of housing Seraph. "Feed him and make sure he is unharmed and my things unmolested until my return," he tells Tarlbarth, standing at the side, where the badge of his office can be seen by the stable master. "Play nice,"he says to Seraph and pats the horse.
Valor then enters the Tavern. He stands 6'1" with an athletic build. His brown/white hair shows his age and the weathering of his skin, the wear of that aging. Valor steps inside and then a few paces from the door, quietly listening to the conversations as he can. Seeing the group gathering at the back table, an eclectic collection of beings, Valor makes the assumption this is whom Tyr has directed him to. Placing his watch badge back on its chain and under his shirt Valor will approach the group. Once there he will give each a slight nod. "I am Valor of Tyr. May I join you?"
"I see you have all been delivered to my city." Laeral says as she takes a seat at the table. The other two do likewise. Those watching would see Vajra lift her staff, causing a sudden silence to fill the area around your table. You can still hear each other normally, but nothing from outside your direct area can be heard. You would suspect that nothing in your area would be heard outside of it as well.
"So, we mere mortals don't have as much information as we would like." The Open Lord of Waterdeep informs you. "We do know that some new power, or powers as it seems, are rising. These beings have some relationships with dragons, which is concerning enough, but that relationship is not well known. Some things we have heard makes us believe the dragons might be under the control of these beings, other things that the dragons work with them willingly."
"Regardless of how they work together..." The Blackstaff interupts, getting a flat look from Laeral. It does not seem to affect the other woman though. "The fact of the matter is that these beings seem to be growing in power, and amassing a large number of dragons, many of which would normally not put up even being near each other. We are concerned it might be the time of dragons all over again."
"Doubtful." Laeral says with a shake of her head. "The gods didn't bother themselves then, so I am quite frankly not on the same scroll as the Blackstaff on that matter." She shakes her head and glares at the other woman as Vajra starts to speak again. This time the Blackstaff remains quiet. "Who, and what, these beings are, and how that relates to the dragons with them, is not your concern just now." Laeral says, addressing the group of you again. "We have learned a bit, enough to try and shut down these beings prior to them amassing more power." She glances to Durnin and he pulls out a large map from a scroll case at his side.
"This map shows two locations we have previously been able to detect a strange magic at work." Laeral says as Durnin spreads out the map.
You see a map of the Sword Coast, and a large section of the Sea of Swords. There is a red X up North, past Neverwinter, in the Sea of Moving Ice. Another X is way out in the Sea of Swords, nearly directly West of Waterdeep, but a goodly distance away, likely many days of travel by ship. It is covering an area that includes a small island kingdom named Mintarn, but the Xs are quite large, clearly it is not an exact location, but an area of some size that is being marked.
"What we know is that something happens in the area where this strange magic is detected, and these beings are drawn to that area." Vajra speaks up again now. "The magic is strong, and we can only get the general location from our scrying of it, but, from what we have learned from those you serve, there are some items that are created, enhanced, or done something to somehow. The beings then travel to the area to claim, or interact with, or do something else with, those items."
"What we need you to do, is to travel to the next location, as soon as we detect another flare of the strange magic." Laeral says. "We have no idea where it will be located, but, as soon as we detect it, we will need you to get there as fast as you can, and attempt to remove the items in question before these beings can get to them. It is believed, from those you serve, that these beings are currently on the way, or having arrived at, the X in the Sea of Swords to our West."
"We would like to study them, so bringing one back here to waterdeep would be nice." Vajra says. "If that cannot be done though, finding a portal to an elemental plane, or one of the nine hells, would be a good place to get rid of the items."
"We are assuming they will not be easy to destroy." Laeral puts in. "Otherwise the gods would just deal with them themselves. Getting them somewhere the beings cannot find them is the highest priority. Keeping them out of their hands is likely the only way we can stop them from attaining the power they once held." She lets that sink in a bit, then nods to the group. "I assume you have questions."
When Brock mentions where they 'put the stick', Aio reveals a lack of understanding with a slight raise of an eyebrow and cocking of the head, but it is subtle. When the dwarf mentions that Aio is not the most important and the gods are all equal the elf just looks amused, a smirk on his face. "It is encouraging that at least one of you has such a sense of humor, but which of you is it?"he asks, his eyes moving to each member of the group but intentionally missing the dwarf. Finally he looks down in an exaggerated drop of the chin. "Ah, of course" he says, feigning disappointment but not hiding his mischievous grin.
When Ssej ponders how many will show up, Aio replies "I'd expect at least a hundred more deities to be represented, if the precedent set here is any indication."
To Ichaka he replies "it is logical that the presence of a long standing and revered lineage would be the backbone of any realm that survives the ages."
To the beautiful Senna he comments, still looking her in the eye "but it is your lineage I am most curious about."
(OOC: I like the use of real recorded weather patterns, DM. Haha)
"So basically we are tools of the gods, who once again, can't be bothered to do their own work and need us lackeys to do it for them, wonderful. So I assume you are paying for the rooms here while we wait for you to determine where we need to go first? And once you do eventually find a direction, you can help us get there?" Ssej asks the newcomers as he again grabs another ale from a passing server. "More importantly, how much are you paying us and besides the "all powerful undetectable magic thingy", he says sarcastically, "we get to keep whatever else we find?"
"So, if I understand everything correctly... You don't have a place you want us to go to yet, but we should be ready to depart any second?" Kerah considers the case. He could easily turn into a giant eagle and fly for most of the day. (10 hours, 60 minutes per hour, 10 rounds per minute, 80' per round... 480,000 feet, or 146 km. Not much when compared to a modern car, but that's about 4 days of walking.) It wasn't that simple, however, as he had others with him. He could probably carry one of them, but none of them seemed worthy of that. In fact, most of them didn't seem trustworthy at all. Besides, the Frostmaiden clearly asked that they worked together, and there were eight of them. "We can consider how to get rid of the items after we gather them. You said those beings are on their way to or already there," he points to the X west of Waterdeep, "what about there?" He points towards the X in the Sea of Moving Ice. "Is it too late in that case as well?" He can't but wonder why he wasn't asked to go there earlier. It's not far from the place where he was before... all this.
"Yes, whenever I am tasked with saving the realms from certain destruction my first question too is always 'who's paying the room and board'."
Turning to the Blackstaff and the Open Lord, Aio inquires "I assume you have a teleportation circle for which I could study the sigil sequence?" "This would, of course, greatly hasten our return."
Yashin rubs his chin. “So it appears to be a race, then! Although it does appear that we are behind by two at this point” He nods at Kerah’s question “Assuming they have already been at the Sea of Moving Ice as well. Makes the challenge that much more sporting, especially with the odds at stake”
“What do these items look like that or what type of power do they hold- how will we be able to tell that they are what we are seeking? I expect them to be guarded or otherwise protected, what do we know about the first two? Not that I would mind a good fight, but it would be nice to know what we face before we get there - wherever the next there is.”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Valor
Valor listens to what is being said but says little. First, this is the Open Lord of Waterdeep, the one who gave Valor his position and badge, so room and board are not his concern, it is his Duty to complete the task before him. Valor will search his memory and try to match the current circumstances with anything he may have faced in the past or heard about. History: 17
"We simply do not know." The Open Lord says with a shake of her silvery hair. "I think that the gods did not recognize the threat until after the first several of these places were already found by these beings." She glances to Vajra, who just shrugs her lack of knowledge on the matter as well. "I have the feeling the gods are playing catch up on this one as well, and many of them are just now learning what sort of threat these beings entail."
"We cannot be certain, but we suspect that these items are showing up in, or near, dragon lairs." Vajra put sin. "There is an Adult White dragon who has a lair in the Sea of Moving Ice, and an Ancient Red who lairs out there in the Sea of Swords, within that area marked by the X." She glances to the group of you. "Likely the next will show up in some dragon's lair, or at least in one of their territories, so I'd be prepared for that if I were you."
"As far as travel goes, I think we'll have to leave that up to you." Laeral says. "Durnan will let you stay here, on my bill, until it is time for you to depart, but, without better knowledge of where you are going, we cannot guarantee a magical means of getting you there." She looks over at the mention of a teleportation circle. "There are many in Waterdeep, I am certain we can have you memorize the one at the Halls of Justice, or one of the other temples, prior to you leaving."
"I would highly suggest staying off of the water." Vajra put sin. "I have the very definite feeling the gods are going to do a lot to slow down these beings, and I'd warrant sailing on the Sea of Swords is not going to be all that safe, especially heading towards wherever this new item shows up."
As he here the current situation Brock rubs his beard and says, "The best course would be probably be going to the sea of moving ice, based off what you told me they already have a head start towards the one in the ocean. We would need to chart a ship to get there but that would take several days travel. Might be we should head to Neverwinter and try to beat them before they have time to go grab it. If these artifacts are that powerful than is almost a guarantee they are guarded by something nasty."

You come up with a complete blank. There are not even rumors of such as this, ever, as far as you are aware.
The elf remarks "it seems likely that we would encounter one of the dragons, and thus we could warn them that these usurpers may seek to dominate them in the near future. Might any of you be particularly talented in convincing a chromatic that you speak the truth, by chance? It could be a worthwhile alliance, despite being a most untrustworthy one. Then there would be the matter of the relic itself, which the dragon would surely not want to part with. Might we offer something worthy in trade?"
"These beings are said to be connected to dragons, somehow," Kerah replies to the Elf, "and in the vision I was showed, they were controlling - or allied - with powerful dragons. Also, if they can best an ancient red dragon, that would mean they are already powerful enough. If we do encounter a dragon guarding such a relic, I believe exterminating them before they can aid our enemies will be our best approach. Dragons are powerful, perhaps, but you all seem capable enough. At the very least, I know you were chosen by some god or goddess. Surely, that must mean something." The Goliath considers his powers, not all were fit for fighting a dragon. He should review some older spells he hadn't used in a long while. Those not granted by the goddess were harder to remember, so he only focused on remembering a few. Most of them weren't relevant to his previous mission anyway.
"If I am undersstanding correctly, the...enemy, hass already been to thesse two ssitess and done whatever they need to do. Hass anyone thought to travel to thesse ssitess to determine what hass been or what went on at them? Did they leave with an item, how big iss it, what kind of ressidual magic wass left behind if there wass any? Are they still there and in the midsst of erecting ssome kind of ritual that needss to take place? Do you have any usseful information to provide about any of thesse ssitess, except that it "Might be located in ssome random dragon cave?" Ssej asks between drinks of ale, then spits on the grounds, "Typical of the godss to once again need our help but provide ass little information ass possssible, sso much for them being all knowing beingss. Though we already knew that from the passt troubless."
Hearing Aio express his interest in Senna's lineage she sighs and just as she prepares a response she notices Laeral and the others walk towards them and Senna pauzes a moment in awe. Laeral is involved in this. Ofcourse she is, her powers are renowned.
Listening to their words carefully as it is all the intel they currently have. But quickly frustration overcomes her as Sej responds so rudely to Laerel. Did they not know who she was? Or why they are here? They are worried about who pays for their room.. She clenches her jaw a moment shown by some muscles in her jaw. Quickly trying to return her mind to the task at hand.
She looks to Laerel and speaks up What about the people of the ten towns? Should they expect an attack after these enemies persuade the white dragon to join them with whatever items they find? It would be a massacre.
Even though they are not her people she would still gladly defend them against such a treat.
And would it even be safe to bring such an item here if we find it? Would that not put this city at great risk.
Her emotion quickly jumpstarts her military training. We would be going in blind, but if we expect dragons we should prepare for that. We would need protection from the elemental abilities they possess. I could try to acquire scrolls that would help protect against such things.
Ichika lowered her eyes and starred silently at the map of Sword Coast on the table, committing all the details to memory. She bit her lip lightly and looked at the X painted in the Sea of Swords, pondering something in frustration, before looking up after a long moment. "We are already behind," she stated, "and if we want to catch up with them, we must get underway immediately. Nonetheless, there is a chance that we will not make it in time. If we choose to wait for the next surge of magic, we may be able to get ahead of them before they continue to the next relic."
"When given a great duty," Ichika said evenly, "we must endure the hardship that comes with. How can the gods place faith in us, if we cannot prove ourselves?" She raised her eyes to give the lizardfolk a pointed look at the end of her sentence, before gently averting her gaze away.
Her hand regained its grip on her glaive. Though her palms bore the rough calluses of an sword-wielding hand, her nails were rounded and cleanly manicured, revealing a healthy pink hue. "It is exactly the vision we're trying to prevent." She continued, "How can we know the will of the dragons? It will still valuable to understand their stance, even they are not with us.“
"Yes, the magic was detected in the Sea of Moving Ice, prior to the more recent one out in the Sea of Swords." Vajra says. "I have been to the Sea of Moving Ice myself, and there is no sense of the magic there any longer. I did not take time to search the various ice islands in the hopes of finding the single one that might be the lair of the white that is reported to be in that area, but I feel confident whatever was there was removed, or at least any magic drained from it."
"And I want to make something else known." Learal said with a glance to each of you. "I do not believe you should try to stand against these beings, if you find yourself face-to-face with them. Their powers are unknown, and, I fear, not something I would want to face myself, or would risk Vajra against. The gods themselves are afraid of these beings, I think us meer mortals should be as well. If it comes down to them getting what we are trying to stop them from attaining, and getting yourself out of there, flee and let them have it. we will wait for the next surge of magic, and try again."
While taking this all in, concern creeps into Valor's face. "Can you show us an image of what we face?"he asks. "And are they just "their group" or do they command forces and agents?" Pausing for a moment to let them answer Valor will listen then ask 1 more question. "What do the Metallic Dragons have to say on this matter? Has anyone consulted them?"

Varielky
Valor
While taking this all in, concern creeps into Valor's face.
"Can you show us an image of what we face?" he asks. "And are they just "their group" or do they command forces and agents?"
Pausing for a moment to let them answer Valor will listen then ask 1 more question.
"What do the Metallic Dragons have to say on this matter? Has anyone consulted them?"
