As they left Tulgi’s home discussion started about their next step. Durnham’s outline their options, Brandon mentioned going after Hulil and Ressys proposed a return to the cabin that once belonged to Urgon.
“I agree with Brandon, both in following the will of the group and preferring to go to the Croaker Caves.”Kotar said looking at the night sky. He didn’t like the idea of fighting in the dark. “Hulil receives the items for a crime family in Shadycreek Run, this means she will send them there sooner or later. If we go to the cabin know we risk losing whatever our thief got from Pelec. I don’t even want to think what could happen if this sickness arrives in a more populated area.”
Yet he did. The sickness, that he still believed more akin to a curse, would spread. First the city, then its neighboring areas. Before long Wildemount whole would know this freezing terror.
“What do you say, Durnham and Qidira?” He asked resting his gaze first over the dwarf, then over the gnome. It was a decision they had the right to make. If they both agreed with Ressys then Kotar would follow. He wouldn’t be against putting some food and drink in the belly. He would never be against that.
Qidira smiles at Durnham's compliment. Then conscious of the resting Tulgi hurries with him out the door, patting her pockets to be sure her little gadgets were with her, then says, "Thank you Durnham. I wish I could do more for your cousin. We must find out what's happening, and quickly. 20 days is such a short time, whatever it is advances fast."She listens as he offers options for next steps. "She mentioned the receipt would be at the cabin. Shouldn't we go there to look for it first? Perhaps it might also be a good place to rest for a short while? We could leave next to Hulil's with the receipt."After everyone's out she ponders the lock on Tulgi's cabin, pulling out a couple of her tools and fidgeting a moment. "There! It's locked, now that I know how to lock it, I should be able to unlock it should we need when we come back if she's in trouble."
She waits for all to discuss the options then after Kotar turns to them for their preferences she eagerly responds, "As for information, I can be useful there too, but I need to go alone. I have some, um, friends in town that are good at that sort of thing. I don't know where Durnham's cabin is located but if we head there for the night, I could head out and see what I can find out while you rest? It takes me a bit to wear down from the day anyways, and we shouldn't need a watch with the cabin as it can be secured?" Then considers what she just said, hoping they won't think less of her for being connected to the network up here as they certainly know what she meant by 'friends'.
Durnham looks out at the dark sky and inhales the cold air. He works to calm his breathing. He can’t stop thinking about the dagger in his backpack. So close to him! It was cold... is it suddenly too cold? Shaking his head he reminds himself that it would probably take a few days to show symptoms if he was infected.
He is shaken out of his anxious thoughts by Quidira’s mention of his cousin. He turns and smiles at the gnome “I didn’t know you spoke Dwarven. She isn’t a blood relative. I have never met Tulgi before tonight. I meant it more as an acknowledgement of our shared cultural history among Dwarves. She stole from people in the town, but I can’t find anger in me about it. She’s so sick... I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.”
He looks around at the others and listens to their thoughts before responding. “The lateness of the day has made our decision for us. It is too late for the shops to be open and I don’t think we are prepared to find a thieve’s cave in the dark. Furthermore, I for one, do not plan on going into a cave of unknown and possibly hostile people without preparation. Let us remember that Tulgi gave those items about 20 days ago. I don’t think one more night is going to make a difference one way or the other. Come, let’s go to my Uncle’s cabin and see what we can find. There we can rest for the night, Qidira can reach out to her contacts, and we can check on the merchant and do any preparations we need before heading out first thing in the morning. Agreed?”
If the group agrees, Durnham will begin leading them to his Uncle’s cabin.
"I agree. I would prefer It to be daylight when we visit the caves. Additionally we might be able to catch Pelc in his shop on our way if we are lucky. Lead the way master dwarf." Ressys says eyeing the crow.
"Oh, I know the odd Dwarven word or two, just don't really speak the language." She replied to Durnham, then nods to him, ready to get back out of the snow. "To your uncle's cabin." Hearing that he is not ready to call it his own yet and considering all that she's learned today in just that short visit and what to ask of her contacts without revealing anything.
“Come, Kotar” Brandon slaps the warrior on the back, too short to reach the shoulder of the Goliath “Ressys and Durnham have the right of it, the items have already been at the caves for some time, one more day likely won’t make a difference.” He looks around at the growing darkness “I dislike fighting in the dark and I definitely do not want to sleep in a snowbank.”
As they walk to Urgon’s cabin, Brandon finds a moment to speak with Qidira. “Impressive work with the dagger. I am envious of your knowledge of the Aeor, I would like to hear more about them and the artifacts they created when we have more time to talk.”
He watched as dwarf and gnome voiced their choice to go to the cabin. I just hope you’re right, Durnhim, pondered the goliath. Otherwise we may be dooming this world. A concern he would not voice. In part because a sort of fear that mere words could invoke such a dark fate upon the lands, in part, and maybe more importantly to him, because he had said that he would follow the will of the group. Three had decided for rest and his word was bound. Brandon tapped his back, trying to lift his spirts and maybe unconsciously echoing some of his thoughts.
“It is decided then.”Kotar answered starting to follow his companions. What an unlikely team they made. “I also prefer avoid fighting in the dark.” He told the human even though he was so certain there would be any light in a cave during the day. “My people don’t have exceptional night vision. At least not usually. Some warriors of my clan have little trouble dealing doing battle under shade, but that is more of an acquired ability - a fighting style.”
One that Kotar had not mastered. Instead, he had specialized in wielding larger weapons, the kind which didn’t even have with him. A glaive would be good, he said to himself.

Qidira is surprised that she has so much to offer to the group and nods affirmatively to Brandon. "I'd be happy to tell me what I know."She says smiling briefly, it doesn't look comfortable on her face. "Tell me though. What should I ask my contacts? I was thinking about items from Eiselcross that have come back, about these other two groups - the Uttolots and the Shadycreek Run group. Anything else? I think I should keep it general. And is there anything you need? They'll get things for me too. Not stolen necessarily. There's always just errand runners, just costs more." She realizes that she's chattered on, and stops herself quickly, looking a little apologetic. "I should let you talk too."
She continued to walk along with the group to the cabin as it seemed something of a consensus had been reached.

Durnham will lead the group through the snow toward his Uncle’s cabin. He will move quietly and interact little. He thinks about his Uncle and the dagger in his pack but does not share his thoughts.
You make your way through Palebank and towards Urgon’s cabin. As the night grows older, the temperature drops even lower and you are reminded that, Eiselcross aside, you are in the northernmost civilization in Wildemount.
The village is quiet this late, with traders and townspeople all curled up safely in their beds or in front of lit fireplaces. Even the wildlife seems to have decided to hibernate, save for the occasional rustle of grass or flap of wings in the darkness.
Eventually you reach the cabin. A single Glassblade stands guard at the door, stamping their feet to keep warm and indistinguishable under thick layers of furs. As you approach they recognize Durnham and make a gesture which might be a welcome or a sign of solemn condolence; they are unclear thanks to their restricted movement. They open the door and as you enter says “Welcome home Durnham, I’ll leave you now”. The female – possibly elf – Glassblade turns to leave as you enter the cabin and take in the view.
This cramped, dark cabin might have been a cozy place when its owner was alive. Now an unmade bed stands near a cold fireplace, its mantle hung with the head of some snarling white beast with gray horns. On the other side of the room, a small table strewn with dirty dishes and set with a dwarf-sized chair stands before two empty shelves whose contents are scattered across the floor: kitchen utensils, dried foodstuffs, adventuring gear, and a few books.

Durnham enters and looks around the room. He stands for a few moments as the others come in behind him and appears to be lost in thought... or memories.
As the others shuffle in he realizes that they are standing in a darkened and cold room and shakes himself out of his lost thoughts.
“Well... welcome to my Uncle’s house... which I guess is mine now.” He takes no joy in the thought as he surveys the dissarray in the room, evidence of Tulgi’s search.
“Winterwalker, would you be kind enough to get a fire going while I start cleaning things up? Come on everyone, make yourselves at home.” Durnham will then begin by picking up the dishes and putting them away before turning towards the books and looking through them as he puts them away. He is looking for anything that might be a clue or suggestion about what his Uncle found or anything that might shed light on the situation. 18 Investigation
Brandon silently places a hand on Durnham's shoulder, just enough to let him know that he is there for him, but not disturbing his thoughts with idle chatter. He turns toward the others "We should look through these papers for Pelc's receipt and any information on Urgon's travels that may aid us in our search for answers."
He leaves the others to look through the cabin and moves to start a fire in the fireplace to ward off the night chill.
Qidira reaches out a quick hand to the Glassblade not touching, but to get their attention, "Might I trouble you to allow me to accompany you back towards town if that's where you are headed? I need to speak with someone this evening before it gets too much later."

Ressys nods to Durnham and then steps to the fireplace. From under his bear cloak he removes a satchel bag that goes over his shoulder and rummaged through it for a moment. A moment later and his shoulders slump and he sighs heavily.
"I seem to have misplaced my tinderbox." He says as he sees Brandon approach. "Help me with this fire Brandon. My druidcraft seems to be lacking at the moment."
With the help of Brandon he hopes to get the fire going and begin to warm up the room.
He then again casts Produce Flame hand holds his hand up to help lighten the small cabin. He'll then help look through the papers and other items in the cabin.
As Brandon and Ressys set about building a fire in the hearth and Qidira steps out front to speak to the Glassblade, Durnham takes a look around. As he searches, flicking through books and tentatively turning objects over in his hands, the warm glow of the fire grows to fill the room, thawing your numbed fingers and noses.
@Durnham:
It is strange, for this cabin of your uncle’s may as well be a stranger’s. Articles and trinkets scattered around may have been cherished belongings, they may have been junk that he kept out of humour or laziness. It is so hard to attach value to anything here. Or almost anything... you spot a few pieces worthy of closer attention: a silvered maul, a suit of sturdy splint armour that would fit a dwarf and some bulky winter clothing that would do the same. There are also a coiple of pieces of adventuring equipment – a grappling hook (with no rope attached) and a hooded lantern. The last revelation may be key; tucked inside a book on the shelf, but protruding just enough for you to notice it, is a receipt for Pelc’s curiosities. It lists all the items cited by Tulgi: “A map of the multiverse on a gilded scroll. A jade statuette. A quiver of fancy arrows. A silver ring. Two blue glass vials. An ornate dagger”
@Qidira:
The Glassblade introduces herself as Mila – you are sure now of the elven accent – and she gladly accepts your offer with a smile “That would be appreciated. I seem to feel the cold so much harsher than the dwarves in my troupe and a friendly conversation can help me to ignore the fact that I no longer feel my toes”

Durnham looks around the room at the objects strewn about. It would take some time to clean this place up... time he doesn’t have right now. Noticing the paper poking out of the book, he opens it and looks at the page it was in. Was this placed in the book here on purpose or was this just a random place to stow the receipt?
He calls to the others “I found the receipt here... in my Uncle’s things. It doesn’t seem to tell us anything we didn’t already know from Tulgi. There’s also some gear here we may want to take along.” He gestures towards the maul and the splint mail. “None of that is useful to me but if any of you can use it you’re welcome to bring it with us tomorrow.”
He bends down to pick up his Uncle’s clothes and searches through them for any clues he can find about his Uncle. 18 Investigation of the armor, maul, and winter clothes.
He frowns and says to himself “A little strange that his clothes are on the ground... Tulgi couldn’t get warmed despite wearing heavy clothes... if Urgon had the same symptoms... why would he leave warm clothes on the ground rather than wear them?”
Durnham will then retrieve his spell book and begin the ritual for detection of magic... curious if anything in his Uncle’s home would glow.
Unsure of what to do, Kotar stood in silence as Ressys and Durnham moved in the cabin. Would it be disrespectful for him to offer his help cleaning the place? For a moment he considered offering to accompany Qidira, but then remembered what she said about having to go alone. Brandon suggested looking for the recipe Tulgi mentioned, something their host had no difficult in doing. In fact, the wizard found more than just paper.
“Splinter is heavier and better than mail.” He pointed approaching the gear and examining it. “But, alas, I don’t think this armor would fit me.”
It was clearly made to fit a dwarf, as it should, considering it probably belonged to Urgon. The maul, on the other hand, he could use. It would cost some defense, but he definitely could brandish the thing.
“I fight better wielding a weapon with both hands and a heavy weapon gives better damage, but I wouldn’t be able to keep my shield.” Kotar admits while looking at his companions, as if asking for their opinion. “This would make some difference if when we fight as a group my role is to get the enemies attention. Although, I suppose I could carry the weapon and switch between it and my sword and shield as necessary.”
"May I have just a moment?" She asks quickly of the Glassblade and steps inside the cabin.
Once inside asks of the others, "Is there anything that any of you require while I'm in Palebank gathering information from my contacts? I'll need funds, but I can find a spot to rest for the night and return early to the cabin with it. If you'll trust me. I can leave this if you have any concerns - holding out the mechanical bird."
Brandon straightens up from the fireplace and looks at Qdiria. “Thank you, my friend, but I have everything I need for the immediate future. If your contacts have information, anything you can find out about this Uttolot group, or what we can expect in the Croaker Caves would be greatly appreciated.” He glances at the tiny mechanical bird “You have no need to leave a token with me, I have no reason not to trust you.” he meets the gnome's eyes “ I hope you will never give us one.”
Looking up from his examination of the items, Durnham will turn to Qidira and offer her 20 gold pieces. ”If you can get a simple set of hide armor for me, that would save us some time tomorrow. I think we could use a healers kit or two as well but that’s all the money I have.” He looks at Qidira and then says ”Be careful out there. The nights here can be especially cold and dangerous.”He stops for a moment as a thought strikes him.
“Speaking of coin... before you go Qidira, can you have a quick look around? Your eyes are a lot sharper than mine. I just had a thought... if my Uncle recently sold a bunch of goods... where did his coin from the sale go? I don’t see anything here that looks new or recently purchased.”
As they left Tulgi’s home discussion started about their next step. Durnham’s outline their options, Brandon mentioned going after Hulil and Ressys proposed a return to the cabin that once belonged to Urgon.

The nights here can be especially cold and dangerous.” He stops for a moment as a thought strikes him.
“Speaking of coin... before you go Qidira, can you have a quick look around? Your eyes are a lot sharper than mine. I just had a thought... if my Uncle recently sold a bunch of goods... where did his coin from the sale go? I don’t see anything here that looks new or recently purchased.”
