A good friend of yours, Gundren Rockseeker, has recently hired you to help him move supplies from Neverwinter down to Phandalin. He says he has a new exciting business opportunity that he wishes to share with you. He set off a few days ahead of you to prepare for your arrival.
Welcome to the Lost Mines of Phandelver, my first attempt to dm a pbp campaign. I have been dming for the past couple of years offline but seeing how many people try to join the campaigns on this wonderful site, I figured I'd toss my hat in the ring.
If you are interested in playing, just leave a small description and backstory of your character idea(s) below. Please include how you know Gundren as he is the hook for the adventure.
If you have any questions feel free to ask. I look forward to playing with you.

Name: "Salty" Paul Potter Race: Human Class: Fighter Description: Tall, strong bearded man in his early 40's.
Background: Paul is a longtime veteran of the Neverwinter underground boxing scene. Paulie recently discovered his mrs. has been running around on him and now Paulie is looking to leave town and start over somewhere new. Idea 1
Hlíf Brightfire, Mountain Dwarf Paladin (will continue with Oath of Devotion)
A fairly young adventurer who used to be a mercenary in hopes of gaining enough money for her tuition by a craftsman she admires. However, as one of the greatest works of this expected mentor was destroyed, she becomes devoted to preserve the remaining good in the world, be it as complex as human ideals or as simple as the beauty of a temple window.
Her parents are famous smiths selling their work all over the world, one of their best trading partners proved to be Gundren. It is natural that Hlíf would lend a helping hand.
In her youth, she used to practice necromancy with the goal of resurrecting her parents. Not only were her attempts met with failure, the locals grew suspicious and hostile towards her, thus she had to leave. In her wanders, she was given shelter by a community of acolytes. When she insisted on paying the people, she first caught a glimpse of the god she now serves. Presently, she is in constant struggle with being a cleric, for she is generally self-reliant and minds her own business instead of risking her safety for others.
As for Gundren, she would definitely not call it a friendship, but the Dwarven man helped her back in the day when she got herself into a fight in a tavern. Even if she did not ask for the aid and would be too proud to admit that she owes the man, it appears to her that her deity thinks otherwise.
Description: 6'1, thin with long golden hair in his early twenties. He has deep blue almost electric appearing eyes
Rowan was found on the banks of a river near a small fishing village by Jacov d'Arnal. He was wrapped in a blanket along with deep blue crystal but no other clues to his parents. He was raised by Jacov and his wife along side their 3 other children after no one claimed the child. As he grew the differences between Rowan and the other children in the village became wildly apparent. He was an incredibly handsome young man with intriguing eyes that drew the attention to all who saw him.
The dreams began when he was just a young boy. Initially, they were about local pets and livestock that were in danger or needed help. As he grew the dreams became more complicated but other odd events would also start happening around him. Unexplainable events like flashes of light, strange illusions and objects moving and flying around him all led to a bit of distrust and even fear around his peers.
Shortly after turning 20 Rowan had a vivid dream of Gundren and where to find him. After a tearful good-bye with his parents he left and began searching the man out. When he found him and was asked to help deliver supplies Rowan was a bit disappointed but he knew this was where he was meant to be and so he eagerly accepted the job.

Robyn loves to travel through nature and make friends along the way. Gundren is one friend he made along his travels, and since Gundred showed him kindness while being lost in the big city, Robyn told Gundren that he would be happy to do a favor for him someday. When not helping animals and keeping the woods safe, Robyn is on the lookout for the undead, which is a family vocation.
Name: Oppleby Farwanderer Fabblestabble Race: Rock gnome Class: Artificer Background: Oppleby and Gundren are long-time friends and business partners as Gundren has always been prepared to invest in Opplebys somewhat unreliable inventions. Some time ago Oppleby found a place in Neverwinter where he has been able to conduct his research, but after obliterating the facility for the third time he was finally evicted and is now in need of new funds. To help him, his friend Gundren has hired him to move supplies from Neverwinter down to Phandalin. Oppleby doesn´t realize this but he isn´t particularly socially skilled and his inventions malfunction more often than not, but he is a positive thinker and will always come to the aid of people in need. Oppleby actually feels a bit excited over leaving his lab and looks forward to some good old adventuring which also would give him opportunity to field test his inventions, particularly his new Blazooka which he is especially proud of.
Name: Skorli Bonebreak Race: Hill Dwarf Class: Cleric
Description: Skorli is a stocky young dwarf, about 4' 4", and 200 lb. His hair and beard are red, and his skin ruddy. His bulbous nose makes his dark eyes look squinty. His beard is braided with silver bands engraved with tiny crescent moons. He wears heavy armor under his priestly robes, which are a shimmering white color, and seem to repel all dirt and stains.
Background: Skorli was orphaned very young, and taken into an orphanage run by priestesses of the Moon Goddess. Growing up in that setting, he frequently got into fights with bullies and other delinquents. Once, he lost his temper and gave an older dwarf such a thrashing that his opponent's arm was broken. That day, Skorli earned a month of nothing but gruel to eat, and his surname.
Over time, the gentle priestesses were able to tame Skorli's aggressive instincts, and teach him to follow a holier path. Feeling shame for the many injuries he had caused in the past, Skorli began a new path studying the healing arts, and how to draw upon divine power to mend flesh and knit bone. At last, when he was too old for the orphanage, the priestesses bid him to go into the world and find his place, although he would always be welcome to return for a (short) visit. They also delivered to him a small chest that they had kept since his childhood, that contained all that remained of his family heritage.
While searching through these keepsakes, Skorli discovered a letter that had been written to his mother from a cousin of hers, Gundren Rockseeker. He had invited her to visit him in Neverwinter, with her family. Not having any other place to go, Skorli decided to head to Neverwinter and seek out his distant relative.
Never played Lost Mines! Would love to be added, if you're still looking for players. I have a paladin and a wizard to offer, depending on the party's composition:
Name:Promise Race: Tiefling Class: Paladin Description: Tall, pale and with her conjoint horns that look like a halo, Promise thinks she looks divine. She tries to take care of her appearence and often chooses expensive but pale fabrics for her clothes. Her tail is a long-ish and ends in a diamond shape. The stone on the forehead can be any color and she's uncomfortable if she doesn't wear it. Background: Was left at the steps of Sarvas's (god of divination) temple when she was a chid and was raised there. Has a bunch of guard friends back in her hometown who taught her how to fight. She left to search for her parents. She's had business with Rockseeker before, as the temple has traded with him regularly and she was an errand girl at the time. She's happy to help him out, but doesn't really know him on a deeper level.
OR
Name:Inkaria Race: Tiefling Class: Wizard Description: Black as ink, with horns going straight up, hair that almost touch the ground and white reflective eyes, Inkaria is spooky to encounter by surprise. She dresses in vibrant colors and prefers skirts over pants. She doesn't care much about her appearence other than the rainbow of her garments. Her tail is flat like a platipus and long like a snake. Backstory: Was working as a scribe, writting down manuscripts like a medieval monk, but she always dreamed of adventure. When she saved enough, she quit her job and went out to explore. Carries a journal to document her adventures, that also acts as a spellbook. Rockseeker is her first job, which she found through a friend of a friend's of a friend's.
I'd like to ask if winged tieflings are allowed (for Inkaria), otherwise she's just a regular tiefling.
Zal met Gundren quite by accident as he came across Gundren‘s wagon being attacked by bandits while he was ranging through the roads and forrest near Neverwinter. He lent a hand in driving the bandits off and has, on occasion since then, helped make sure some of Gundren‘s more important deliveries arrive safely. This is the most recent of one of those such deliveries.
Hi everyone, our adventurous party has just reached Phandalin and one of their members has a calling taking her in a different direction. I am looking to recruit one new player for our group.
Having just reached Phandalin, there are a number of good adventure hooks for you to join us on. The town is under assault by a group of bandits called the Redbrand Ruffians. You also may have had contact with the party's benefactor gone missing, Gundren Rockseeker. Goblins in the nearby forest have been getting bolder recently. Things are looking rough for the small town, will you rise to save it?
The party is currently level 2 and consists of an artificer, an unarmed fighter, and a life cleric.
We are using point buy for stats and only official content. Post your characters below if you are making a new character and include their backstory and why they are in Phandalin. If you want to reapply using a character you posted previously, just post that you are still interested and I'll take another look at your character, I know there were a few I was sad I couldn't fit in originally.
Made a new character to apply, a fighter 1/mage 1, using point buy like you told to; link below:

Backstory: Khessa was born to a paesant family, in a small village. At the age of 20 she is kidnapped, with her family, during a raid of drow slavers. With some luck she manages to free herself, along with some other slave from her village. After a a dangerous journey in the underground, during which she is forced on several occasions to defend herself in the hostile and unfamiliar environment (risking her life, but also honing her fighting skills), she manages to lead the slaves back to the surface. With her family still lost in drow hands, she becomes an adventurer; she will, when possible, help the defenseless (waiting to be able to help, some day, her family) and will satisfy the curiosity of the world that she had always had...
Why in Phandalin: The first options I can think of:
1) The "small village" where Khessa was born might have been near Phandalin, so she may have caught rumors about the problems of the village and come to try to help the people.
2) Khessa had friendship (or a relation) with this Gundren you write of (I do not know anything of him at the moment, but if he is a person that shares some of Khessa's values or a person that Khessa could have been helped durin the first stages of here adventuring career, they could well have become firends at least).
Both 1) and 2) are OK for me; should you select Khessa as a new party member, you can choose the option you like more.
Backstory: He was happy once, with his wife and daughter living in their village. He tended the fields and joined the other hunters when they needed meet or to protect the village. Life was not always easy, but it was happy. Then the night that he doesn’t speek about happened. The confusion, the screams, the chaos. All his fault, or at least he thinks so. He does not know the faith of his family! He fears the worst. But he knows he can never go back, he must continue wandering. Trying to do as much good as he can to try to find forgiveness for something that can’t be forgiven.
Why he is in Phandalin: Banto has heard the rumours about the Redbrand Ruffians and he made his way to Phandalin to assist in the effort to rid the town of them.
