Inglenook takes the gift from the child carefully, and whilst taking the time to examine it's craftsmanship, he does not have chance to ask any questions or even thank the family before they lead themselves away to safety.
"I agree with Kirari and..... one of the Cales, but I think once we get there we send someone back to collect this family, they seem nice. Maybe some big men who can protect them on the way to the keep. Do you think there will be any food when we get there? I'm very hungry. Ooh. Maybe we can find some on the way! Keep those eyes peeled"

Just as Kiari sets off around the bend, she would easily see 1 kobolds and 2 cultists (wearing well-known Cult of the Dragon insignia) arguing (or having a very animated conversation) just before the footbridge to cross the stream. It does not look like they notice you, or if they do, they don't seem to care.
Hearing Inglenook's words to the children after the last kobold falls to his hurled axe, Travis stops to talk to the young ones before retrieving his axe.
"As my friend here said, we are here to help you," he says. "I can see that you all are strong and brave, you just need a little time to grow into good soldiers, good protectors." He nods at them, his tone overall very serious and very sincere.
Then, he moves away and yanks his axe out of the fallen kobold. As the group moves off and suddenly runs into the kobolds and cultists, he notes others falling into hidden positions. He assumes that the less attention paid to their snipers, the better. So he keeps walking forward, sword and shield ready, straight at the cultists. He says nothing, just keeps walking toward them with a glowering look of anger on his face.

Kirari nods to Inglenook, "Yes and if noone can come back, we should do so. They're a good family and don't deserve the trouble they're having. A fine meal would be welcome, but I daresay it might be a while. Rations might be it for now." She says patting her pack thinking about the two days worth she has left. A meal would definitely be welcome.
Then eyeing the Kobold and Cultists, her pace quickens. "More to do friends," she whispers behind her jerking her head towards the footbridge near the stream. Noting a couple of her companions taking cover for stealthier attacks. Not quite her style so she moves forward with Travis to keep potential attentions on them. Crossbow armed on her left in case they notice her before her group reaches them or the others attack and Mace in the right in case they don't. Her most intimidating expression vivid on her face, intimidation6
(initiatives in OOC I think?)
(that roll - apparently she's still thinking of nice little children)
The cultists see the group approaching but do not get their weapons ready. They raise their hands and shout, “Hail, Tiamat!!” to the group. The kobold hops up and down seeing Kiari and Inglenook, with their bags and pouches, and goes, “More treasure? Treasure for us, friends?”

"You just made your last mistake of the day."She says glaring at the largest of the group. Then lifts and fires her crossbow at them. (selecting a non lethal part of the anatomy if possible) Picking up pace to close the distance if possible between them right after. Then hissing in Draconic for effect, "You're attacking women, children and lame men? What kind of cowards are you?"
Still trying an intimidation angle, with a multi-racial raiding party they could maybe mistake her for a superior? Who may injure only to wound as a punishment. Not discouraging the others from battle, just trying to cause confusion and delay their reaction.

"Are we fighting again already?! I'm going to pass out soon." Inglenook sighs and his shoulders slump. "Treasure?? This is no treasure of yours you idiots"
And he follows suit, draws his crossbow and readies. (if they are hostile he will fire at a cultist.)

Cale sees that the encounter is turning into a shooting match and follows suit. There is little challenge in sniping an enemy from cover, which is just fine - and he likes the odds.

For the initiative order for this round, I have Cale, Cori the Cultist, Corrine the Cultist, Breena, Inglenook, Kenny the Kobold, and then Kiari. I don't have initiative from Willian or Travis yet (apologies if I missed that), but I can imagine they are still in the back of the group, maybe helping Lillian and her family get in the cellar, and they can jump in when ready.
Travis charges ahead and attacks Corrine; she falls to the ground and is defeated.
Cale's arrow surprises the bad guys as it hits Cori the Cultist right between the eyes, splits the mask in half, and she falls to the ground in a heap.
Cori is dead
Corrine screams, "Unclean! You are not the mercenaries we were waiting for! Tiamat's judgement will be swift for you!" Seeing that she is outnumbered, she flees over the bridge away from the party.
Corrine is dead
Breena's javelin hits Kenny the Kobold square in the shoulder, and Kenny cries out in pain
Inglenook's bolt narrowly misses Corrine the Cultist as she darts back and forth over the bridge.
With his good shoulder, Kenny the Kobold whips his sling back at Breena. Attack: 11 Damage: 3
Kiari's bolt hits the kobold in the other shoulder, and he falls back on his heels. He groans, "Ugg...cultist find friends.....cultist find friends" and is clearly incapacitated with the base of the javelin pointing up at the moon as Kenny is flat on his back. He is prone.
I'll work Travis and Willian into the next round, but the order goes back to the top now: Cale, Cori the Cultist, Corrine the Cultist, Breena, Inglenook, Kenny the Kobold, and then Kiari

OOC: Sorry for delays. Still traveling but I have a chance to post just now. As mentioned in earlier post, Travis was marching straight at the cultists/kobolds, not hanging back with Lillian and company. So I will just roll initiative and post as if Travis is right in the mix of combat. Hope that's OK.
As melee breaks out again, Travis stands with shield ready and takes a slashing blow at the remaining cultist with his longsword. He stands ready to make an attack against any enemy should the opportunity arise.
(No worries, Darwin, and that sounds good to me; with that initiative roll, I will have you defeating the other cultist. I'll update the earlier battle post, #98, for everyone).

As Kiari points out the raiders, Cale tries to find a decent position to take cover and prepare a ranged sneak attack if necessary.

Let's roll for initiative:
Kobold Kenny 10
Cultist Cori 14
Cultist Corrine 18
