"Kilim" The diminutive figure addresses the man with a complete disregard for his title, "Wotcha got in store for us?" Draanel stands with her hands on her hips, her tone brusque and her stance exudes impatience.
Anyone with higher than a 13 on their Perception Check sees a slight twinkle spreading across the far wall. It grows, encompassing the whole wall, where an assortment of shelfs and mounted weaponry lay, before dispersing.
Sir Vadamal goes over to his desk and shuffles through the papers. "Well, Advisor Marren should've been here by now, but I suppose we can start the festivities without her." He finally finds a folded document and hands it over. "A letter from Lady De'lor, one of the survivors holding out in the city. of Nacesa. It appears a mechanical creature appeared in the city four months ago, and has destroyed a good portion of it. Many either died or fled. The survivors are held up in a safe zone, but are fearing the creature is close to finding them." He turns to the halfling and says, "Lork, fetch me those items." Lork hesitates before turning and rushing out of the room, his bundle of papers held close to his chest. Vadamal turns back with a thoughtful expression. "I've sent a few of my own men, to no avail. So we've contacted your organization in the hopes you could defeat this creature, save the survivors, and possibly figure out where this... thing came from." The letter:
As he finishes reading, the satyr grins and puts the letter in his pack as he addresses the man hiring them, "Well, sounds like you really got yourself into a pickle, but I'm sure we can do something about it. After all, you've got me working for you now." The satyr gives Sir Vadamal a wink and a sly smirk that oozes confidence.

“The mark of a successful DM is when you have caused more player deaths with doors than dragons, demons, or devils.”
Albert was hearing to the letter and didn't notice the wall but now that Robin asked, he noticed as well. After Vadamal answered, he will ask:
Sir, there are some questions I'd like to ask...
ooc: questions to Vadamal, for all the players, feel free to add some more
1) how far is Nacesa? reachable by sea or inland? How does it look like? or, better, how DID it look like? (populations, harbour, walls etc)
2) How much time ago did this creature appear? How does it look like? Does it destroy or pray or has any understandable behaviour? where/how did it appear?
3) The letter talks about NOISE: does it mean that the creature is attracted by noise (or at least that's what the survivors believe)?
4) Shall we bring supplies with us? In that case, can you provide provisions and a cart/vagon/ship/whatever?
5) reward...we'd better talk about it, better now
6) as far Vadimal knows, any recent event happened in the city before the creature's arrival? (I am trying to figure out a cause-event effect)
Rakim looks equally confused. He figured that this dangerous assignment would start making people question their sanity, he just wasn't expecting it to start so soon.

Vadamal started rolling off questions to be answered and Keir stood back listening. He found himself nodding with each of the questions. It was always worth knowing what you were stepping into, even if it does cement your concerns more than your hopes.
As Vadamal wrapped up his questions, Keir flicked up his hand briefly to catch attention as he asked a question of his own. “And if the situation is so dangerous that the people must remain in these safe zones, how did this message get through?”

"On land, it would take you 2 and a half days of travel if you walk. You could travel by sea, but it would take longer, but might be a better way of getting into the city." He lets his finger brush the two paths."The closest estimation we've gotten to when the beast appeared is around 4 to 6 months ago. Statements from survivors said the creature roamed the city, but was not hostile until 3 months ago. From what info we do have, it does have a set route within the city, and a building when it... 'rests.' But lately it's been traveling further from it's path, into the safe zone. If you'd like to travel by horse or ship, we can provide those accommodations, but we have been having slight trouble with bandits along the coast. Any previsions you do need can be supplied by us. As for payment, what funds Sire could spare are going to the Obsidian Stand. Advisor Marren would have to fill you in on what your percentages are." On the last question he scratches his head. "Nothing I know about, but I'm sure some of the survivors will have some information."
"Normally we were communicating with the survivors through magical means, but the person responsible for those messages was killed last month, and most mages and wizards have been called to help the war efforts. Since then, Lady De'lor has been able to gain the help of seagulls to deliver the letters. She is quite fond of wildlife."
Albert ponders a little, shifting his weight from a leg to the other, rubbing his chin and leaning on his faithful halberd:
mh...if everyone agrees, I think it's better to proceed by land, especially since Lady De'lor said he sent men to the harbour and they did not come back, it would be a pity to arrive by ship just to find out the harbour is ut out from the rest of the city in some way.
Then, replying to Vadamar:
Yes, in the meanwhile, sir, whichever route we take, please organise provisions and water for us and the survivors: we will need enough horses and carts to carry it. My first thouts are: let's get the survivors away from the city and back here, then we will try to stop this creature. If we act this way we will surely need some servants following us: they will bring back the survivors while we deal with the beast. Since you said bandits roam around, among these servants there must be at least a couple of guards and someone able to give birth, dunno, an old woman, a doctor...you know better
Clearly Albert is in his element: warfare. He thinks back at the pillages he partecipates in when he was a pirate, the sieges...
war is not only war itself, there must organization behind
During the questions Robin walks to the wall that twinkled and casts detect magic as a ritual. She is fairly distracted by this, more than a bit curious as to what caused the wall to have twinkled like that.
“You know they might not have gone back because they actually got away to safety and were too scared to put themselves back in danger? I agree though, if we are on land we have more options. I would rather avoid being stuck on a boat if I can avoid it.”

Vadamal nods his head. "Yes, I have been able to secure you a small amount of my personal guards, along with Lork, who is well versed in the medical profession." At that moment, Lork, the halfling, barges in with a large cloth that holds an assortment of items. He nearly stumbles and two of the items fall to the floor with a clatter.

You cast the spell. (If you're trying to be covert roll a Stealth Check)
You detect a magic essence from most of the items Lork just carried in, as well as any magic items in the party's possession. Sir Vadamal also carries two objects that are canceled in the inner pockets of his uniform coat. You look over at the wall and detect a strong magical presence.
Rakim looks to Lork who fumbled a few of the items, and the satyr quickly hops over to help him pick them back up and put them back into his arms. As he does, he turns his head and asks Vadamal, "How many personal guards?"

"Eleven or Twelve." Vadamal says as Lork places the items on the table. "One was badly injured patrolling the woods: attacked by an owlbear. Might not be able to make the journey."
The items now on the table consist of a ring, a wand, a dagger, an orb, and a locket.
"These are a few of the magical items Sire cane spare. Unfortunately, we have no idea what they do, and the usual spells haven't helped us in that regard. I hope they can help anyway."
"Robin." Robin says as she gives the man a nod of respectful greeting.

"I regret to inform you... Lady Carsa De'lor."

Vadamal looks confused as he glances over at the wall. "Twinkle?"
He seems to have no knowledge of the strange occurrence.
