"Well thank you Mirlande, I will remember that." Aubrey says, smiling to the halfling barmaid as he pours the glasses of wine and hands them out to whoever in the team seems to appreciate a really good wine.
"Pleasure to meet you too Grugga." Aubrey says to the artificer, trying but failing to give him a strong handshake.
Greeting the late addition to the team, Leelan steps over to the job board. Leelan scratches his chin as he reads all of the different posters. He also listens to his new companions’ impressions of these job offers.
"The rescue mission does have some sense of urgency to it. But if you wish to know which of these is more akin to my field of expertise, I rather fancy this job offer in Elvish (Leelan points at the message and translates it for whoever needs it). This Lizard of Dunmoore also seems like a great opportunity. I do agree with our fearless leader concerning our involvement with politics. That is why I would avoid settling the squabble of Champion needed. Wouldn’t you all agree?"
Rohuzar nods as each of them speak and looks back at the board for several long moments, thinking.
“Grugga, take Citizen Aubrey vith you to meet the tradesman about his daughter. Guilim and I vill have a sit down to discuss the goblins and the lizard bandit.Leelan and Eskil go to meet this Gregory at the Blue Orchid about his unusual job. Let’s find out vhat’s being offered. And get some paint on yourselves on vay back to meet here tonight. I leave note for elf about his problem once you come back.”
Grugga nods along as Rohuzar explains the plan. "No questions here."
He turns to Aubrey, "Ready to go? I've been here a few days and I think I know roughly where the address is, but you said you're from here, right? We can get some paint on the way back and maybe ask the legionaries what they know."
Aubrey listens attentively at the others opinions. "It might be hard to predict what would be political I think. With the current diplomatic tension in Bardstown I suspect just about anything could turn political, although hunting goblins and lizardmen would probably be safe bets in that regard."He says smiling.
Aubrey listens to Rohuzars orders and nods, impressed by the resoluteness of the orc mercenary. "No questions." He says as Rohuzar finishes.
"Yes Grugga, let´s visit those distraught parents shall we. I know the way there." Aubrey answers the artificer. "Since it is just some information gathering I will leave my equipment with the bar I think. I don´t know if you want to carry that invention around with you, but I suggest you leave it here for now." Aubrey says smiling. He then walks over to the elf tending the bar and leaves his backpack there to collect when he returns for dinner.
"I agree rescuing that daughter sounds urgent, but I must say that if that troupe of traveling actors already have crossed the border to Pentwater we will likely not catch them before they reach Tucker hills. You are from Pentwater right? Would local authorities let us go in there and rescue that girl you´d say?" Aubrey asks Grugga as they set off toward the Southbank adress, Aubrey showing the way there.
"Goblins are easy to describe usually. They tend to he cowardly unless in group where they believe they can overwhelm a target. When they are alone they will try to run but if cornered then like anything in that situation become dangerous. There have even been times with a promise of their life or a reward they will betray their own and help destroy the others." Guilim explains as the others are sent off to look into the other jobs.

Regarding the goblins and lizardfolk bounty:
There really isn't anyone to talk to about the goblin bounties. It is common for local lords, or even communities of concerned citizens, to post bounties on goblins. In most cases these are small, a handful of coppers, perhaps. In this particular case, the bounty has been elevated, likely due to excessive populations or aggression on the part of the local goblins. The local baron want their numbers thinned and is willing to pay those who take care of this. There is no particular target. Its possible once you arrived in the area of Silver Creek you could ask locals for where goblin activity has been seen, but Silver Creek is about 4-5 days walk west of Bardstown in the foothills of the mountains. There is no 'quest-giver' and it is likely they have posted similar notices in bars and taverns across the region. Those looking to collect on a goblin bounty would harvest the ears and turn them in to whoever posted the bounty, usually a seneschal or constable of the local lord or baron.
The lizardfolk bounty is much the same, though in that case they are looking for a specific target. You would likely need to visit Dunmoore to get more information, however, there is a Dunmoore Traders Association in Bardstown that conceivably might have some more news on banditry in the region of Dunmoore.

Grugga shrugs his invention back onto his shoulders. Fur is wrapped around the parts of the metal that rest against his body, making it somewhat bearable to carry. "It's too expensive to leave behind," Grugga says to Aubrey, "I'd hate for anything to happen to it."
Responding to his inquiry about Pentwater, Grugga replies, "I lived in Tucker Hills for the last few years of my life; I'm confident the authorities there would be protect and return her if they knew she was a kidnapping victim. Pentwater has always done right by the smallfolk, and we're committed to keeping the peace with Vigor the second." Grugga scratches his chin with his hand, thinking, and then reiterates, "Yes, the more I think of it, the more sure I am."
After a few minutes of silence, Grugga turns to Aubrey again and asks, "Say, did you see what was going on with the legionaries at the tavern? I've been trying to keep a low profile in the Empire, but I'm just as interested in those Elves arriving as anyone."
Your walk to Southbank takes a little more than half an hour. It is mid afternoon, bordering on late afternoon. You locate the address, a saddle and leatherworking shop called Custom Straps and Trim. It has a small shopfront with a larger workshop in the back with what appears to be living quarters above on a second story. This is definitely the address. The shop is open but there is no one else inside. A middle aged human woman in a shop apron is sweeping the floors behind the counter. Its obvious from a distance that she has a large bruise around her left eye. She leans the broom against the wall and puts on a smile, though she looks tired, like she hasn't slept recently. "Hello, citizens," she says, looking at Aubrey's opulent clothing. "Would you be needing something made?"
Guilim and Rohuzar:
It takes only a short walk from the market district, across the bridge and through the arch of Vigor I to find the Dunmoore Traders Association in Umbridge. It is a small stone and wood framed office building, with the exterior decorated with wagon wheels. Several children, noble by their dress, are playing games in an alley along with a trained mastiff, apparently belonging to one or all of the children. The office door stands open to let in a breeze off the lake.
The interior is something more akin to a small tavern than an office. There is a counter and some barstools along with a few smaller tables and chairs, with closed doors leading to several rooms on the back of the building. Inside an older dwarf and an older elf dressed in modest business attire are engaged in a conversation over tobacco pipes. They cut their conversation short as you enter, though based on their last words it is clear they too were discussing the elven airship and what it means.
"G'day," says the dwarf, hopping down from his stool and approaching the two of you. "Looking for caravan guard duty? We just sent one out, and aren't likely to have another until this time next week."
Leelan and Eskil:
With some directions from Aubrey, you located the Blue Orchid on the south side of Umbridge. It is an inn with an upscale musical parlor attached. An older human woman tends the front desk. When you ask for Gregory, she sends a page boy running upstairs. A few minutes later, a well dressed human male, late middle age with a thick gray mustache descends the stairs. He looks you over.
"I presume you have answered my Lady's call for investigators." He smiles. "I can already tell she will like you. Please follow me." He leads you upstairs to a large suite, appointed with fine furnishings and artwork. A human woman sits at a writing desk, surrounded by books and scrolls. She looks up at your approach. She looks to be early 30's and could be considered attractive, but her hair is uncombed and her eyes lined with worry. She takes down her spectacles and wipes them with a cloth. She doesn't rise but asks you to sit.
"How wonderful that you gentlemen responded to my request for help." She gives Leelan a curious eye. "A gnome, I see. I've never had the pleasure. My name is Lucille Shelley, Lady of House Shelley and protector of the town that bares our name. I am a patron of the strange and mysterious, and I believe there is something incredible waiting to be discovered here in Bardstown. But before I say anything more, please tell me something of yourselves. I have been... burned before by those who don't take my work seriously. I want to know you're folk that I can trust before I let you in on our little project."
(DM: There is no rush. If you have other conversations to continue please go ahead. I will update the job research once everyone has had a chance to respond.)

Just before leaving the Robust Hound Inn and Tavern Aubrey turns to the others. "Oh, one other thing, unless any of you have made other lodging arrangements I would like offer my familys townhouse over in Umbridge as a base of operations while we are not on the road. It´s nothing fancy, but the beds are comfortable and it has a lovely view of The Little Prince. Some of you might have to share bedrooms though. Think it over and we can discuss it over dinner." Aubrey says with a slight bow before leaving with Grugga.
"Well if we are going after that kidnapped daughter to Tucker hills it is good thing to have a local with us." Aubrey says and pats Grugga on the shoulder. "According to the bartender there had been an incident at the market square and I suppose the legionnaires where looking for the perpetrators. Nothing that should concern us I think. About the elves I think your guess is as good as mine, but if Vigor II has decided to invite them you can be sure that he thinks it is politically advantageous for him. It could be some kind of trade agreement or even a pact against a common enemy. Time will tell." Aubrey says smiling seemingly not overly troubled by the elven presence i Bardstown.
When Aubrey and Grugga are greeted by the floor sweeping woman Aubrey bows slightly. "Perhaps some other time. We are actually here about your daughter. We are considering going after her but we need more information about what has happended, as much as possible if we are to convince the others of our mercenary team to go all the way to Tucker hills." He says with a mix of compassion and professionalism. "Would that be from your encounter with those charlatans?" He askslooking at the bruise.
When Aubrey offers his family’s home as a base of operations, the gnome responds with a smile. "A most generous offer, Citizen Aubrey. I’m sure your abode will be most welcome."
Being given his new assignment by Rohuzar, Leelan gives him a salute. "No further questions. We will endeavour to accomplish this mission." On the way to the Blue Orchid, Leelan takes the opportunity to chat up his newest companion, Eskil. He asks him various questions: where is he from? why did he want to join Rohuzar’s company? What is being a druid like? What is his thought on painting himself red?
As they meet Lady Shelley, Leelan removes his beret, revealing his thinning hairline, and takes a respectful bow, before taking a seat as invited. "I can assure you, Lady Shelley, I take your work with the utmost seriousness. I am Leelan Dapper. I’m currently working on the manuscript of a book detailing the various creatures and beasts of this world. I could show you my work, should you feel any interest."
The woman raises a hand to her cheek, her mouth trembling. “Y-yes.” Suddenly she erupts in activity. “Oh, Buster! You must speak with my husband. Buster!” She calls, rushing into the workshop in the back.
A moment later she returns, guiding a human man by his left hand. The mans right arm is tacked up to his leatherworkers apron. He is an imposing figure, taller than six feet and well muscles, though he moves with a pained expression. “I am Buster Potter, and this is my wife Amelia.” He looks both of you over, his eyes lingering on the contraption on Gruggas back. “You’ll be from Pentwater then? Please… we have need of aid. Our daughter Has been taken by a group of actors. The Wandering Bards they call themselves. They arrived here a few weeks ago and were putting on their little shows up and down the riverside. Our daughter, Agrippa, she was charmed with their lifestyle and could be found watching them almost every night. Then four nights ago she didn’t come home. When we went to find her, instead we found two of their troupe packing up the last of their wagons. They claimed Agrippa had left with the others and would not be returning. When we demanded to see her, they jumped me and broke my arm. We’ve heard tell they have moved on to Walders Rest in northern Pentwater. They beyond the reach of the legion. We have nowhere else to turn. Please. She can be…,” he looks to his wife, “… a headstrong girl. But she is only 15. She has no place with a traveling gang of rogues and minstrels. She means the world to us. We can offer… 150gp if you see her safely back to us.”
Guilim and Rohuzar:
“What?” The dwarf asks, confused.
The elf stands and comes to join the group. “I think what they mean is they are thinking of taking on the manhunt for the lizard of Dunmoore. No doubt interested in the purse of gold offered by our liege.” The elf extends a hand. “Good afternoon. I am Hansaran, and my befuddled friend here is Klaus. Together we make up two thirds of the Dunmoore Traders Association.”
”If you’re considering taking up this quest, we can offer encourage and perhaps a little more. It would benefit us all if this bandit threat is eliminated and the roads made reliably safe again. I think it is fair to add that we would offer to sweeten whatever pot the lord has proposed by adding another 100 gp on top of the bounty.”
Beyond that they have little to add. There have been periodic strikes along the northern trade route that passes through Dunmoore. Between Dunmoore and the lake is a long swampy region known as the dunmoore. The attacks have been occurring since late last summer, with the bandits retreating always into the moor. The group is mostly human but there are several lizardfolk, including the large one, believed to be the leader and for whom the bounty has been posted.
The legion is aware of the issue but the association has heard it may be the end of the summer before they can marshall a force to March out and deal with them.
Leelan and Eskil:
“That is fascinating, And I would very much like to see your research.” She seems impressed with you. “Still, I’d like hear from you as well before i decide if I can tell you what we have uncovered,” and she looks expectedly at Eskil.

"Citizen Aubrey Goldentide at your service..." Aubrey says with a slight bow. "...and this is my associate Grugga from Pentwater." Aubrey hesitates for a moment before continuing. "I can see you want your daughter back. Excuse me for asking but have you considered she might not want to go back home? I´m not sure we will be able to take an unwilling person across the border. We would probably need a letter of attorney from you to do this in a legal manner." Aubrey says. "If you see to that we will present your case with the others of team." A brief pause. "How long could we expect the troupe to stay in Walders rest?" Aubrey asks while looking to Grugga for more questions.
Grugga looks suddenly chagrined at the mention of The Wandering Bards but says nothing until the leatherworker finishes speaking. "A pleasure to meet you, Buster and Amelia. You are correct that I come from Pentwater. Did you witness any of the shows that these charlatans put on? Were they regular plays and music or did they have access to technology, such as that by which you recognized my heritage." He thumbs over his back to point at his creation. "Any information could help us, but as my colleague mentioned, the decision of whether or not we can help you will come down to our group."
He turns to Aubrey and says in a low voice so Buster and Amelia can't hear him, "I'm not sure what to make of this. There is a bardic college in Tucker Hills with some very talented members. I wouldn't be surprised if the girl went willingly, but I can't explain why they would have harmed her mother - her father sure, if he came off aggressively but..." Grugga trails off with a worried look on his face and then picks up his train of thought a few moments later. "No true son of Pentwater would have done this. I can't believe it's really our bards, but rather some charlatans looking for coin and young women. Brigands by another name."
Edit, to reply to Oberon's post: Continuing the quiet conversation with Aubrey, Grugga raises a few more points, "The girl is only a teenager, even if she wanted to stay with these mountebanks, these men are taking her from her parents. And regarding the law here, I truly don't know... but if they're in Pentwater by now, does the Empire's law truly stretch so far?"
Regarding Your history check: this is a tricky situation but this sort of thing isn’t completely unheard of. In the eyes of the Empire, children are the responsibility of their parents until 16. Whether she wishes to leave with these men or not, her parents should by law be able to intervene. However, crossing into Pemtwater changes the equation. If she is indeed a captive, bringing her back will be no issue. The border won’t make an issue of you transporting a minor unless someone makes it an issue. Which is where her being a WILLING companion of these men becomes a problem… if you recover her and at the border she claims you have taken her against her will, you could face difficulties with both the Pentwater and the Imperial border agents.
Aubrey had it right with his initial impression. If they have a writ signed by a magister extending the parents authority to you, that would satisfy the Imperial border agents… Pentwater could be a different story… if she tried to claim asylum in Pentwater… well let’s hope that doesn’t happen.
But getting a writ from a magister could be an ordeal. They would need a lawyer, then pay to have their cause heard and likely pay a fee for the service. Aubrey would know, best case scenario, this would be 2 or 3 days to get the paperwork in order, and consume 20 or 30gp from the families coffers. It would solve MOST of the hypothetical legal problems with this mission.

He says with a mix of compassion and professionalism. "Would that be from your encounter with those charlatans?" He asks looking at the bruise.
Guilim and Rohuzar:
“Ve haff heard of lizard bandit. Ve are looking for more information before taking job. Can’t make promises if job is not prepared for.”

Guilim
Guilim stays quiet as he lets Rohuzar speak, wanting to see how will the half orc is able to deal with the back and fourth of getting a contract.
Leelan
Grugga and Aubrey:

Grugga and Aubrey
Grugga and Aubrey
Grugga and Aubrey
History (law) with help from Grugga I hope, to determine the legality of the team forcing Agrippa to leave Pentwater and to go back to her parents:13
Aubrey and Grugga:

(OOC: Aubrey shares his conclusions regarding the legal issues with Grugga in a low voice, although they sort of came up with that together. Did the parents want to comment on our questions?)
