"I'm certainly fine with not confronting some hulking aberration," Triäsa says. "Pardot's suggestion seems as good as any. Or, do we even have to go into the wood here?"
Ludolf nods at Pardot's suggestion. "I've no idea where to go but at least there is a path over there." He then says to Triäsa, ready to follow Daventry's lead.
"Yeah... what you describe sounds like a nightmare... and certainly isn't anything I've seen before. I like the distract and slip past plan... maybe Pardot hits us with that spell that wraps us in a nice batch of shadow and silence?" Daventry looks to the others. "Lead him away from the path and circle our way around to the other side of it, then take the road futher."
“That I can do as well,”Pardot says. If and when the others are ready for this plan, he holds a hand out and springing into the air from it is the largest bird he’s able to think of as a temporary familiar. He then sends it towards the creature Ludolf reported to flap around and hopefully grab the creature’s attention. He then lifts his walking stick and says ‘shhh’ to everyone around. As everyone hears his shush they also notice that it gets more quiet itself as the sound comes from his lips. He then motions for the group to follow him as he looks for a trail to bypass the creature.

Pardot concentrates on his magics thinking of the large great owls that used to perch in the trees back home. The red dust swirls at your feet as the magic gathers gradually taking the form of your familiar but it is decidedly not the owl you pictured in your mind. The soft black white feathers you pictured in your mind have been replaced by a rough, worn pale leather. You've never seen a creature like it.
A pain high pitched caw escapes from it's jaws as it flies into the forest. You give it a few moments and hear a tremendous thundering and crashing.

Your familiar, Terry Dactal, bravely flaps it's wings in the face of the creature distracting it from whatever foul meal it was in the midst of devouring. Angry at the sudden interruption the split faced creature lashes out violently with it's for arms clawing at Terry. Terry never had a chance... despite his best dodge actions he quickly ripped from existence... The good news, the creature seems to be very confused at Terry's sudden disappearance.

Carefully and silently, you enter the forest of glowing fungus and proceed down the path. The creature seems adequately distracted as you pass by and those of you who have not seen it for yourselves get your first glimpse of it. With it's two eyes on the side of it's mouth it's rather challenging to say what exactly it is looking at but you know for sure it is not you. With it's four hands it paws at the remainder of the carcass as it looks around bewildered as to where the odd flying lizard went.
You don't waste anymore time and press on forward down the path with no specific destination in mind.
Through the tunnels of that twisted wood, whose low prodigious oaks twine groping boughs and shine dim with the phosphorescence of strange fungi you walk on for what seems like hours but perhaps it was just minutes. You thread your way through those trees and come to a clearing of a sorts. Sixty feet in diameter, large heavy stones 20 feet high and 6 feet wide sit on end and arranged in a rough circle. The stones are cracked and worn by time and weather. Any markings that may have once adorned their surface long since washed away.
Perception please.

Ludolf looks carefully at the stones but something catches his attention in the woods beyond. A set of purple eyes glare at the group from behind the trees and now that he looks closer it's obvious those eyes are not alone... Five, ten.... fifteen.... no more. more than you can count... Purple eyes glow from all directions watching you.

You're not sure but whatever owns those eyes shift side to side having been noticed. Slowly the creatures move forward and emerge from the treeline. What you see is some sort of strange rodent like creature. They have some sort of thick but wiry fur and stand no more than 3 feet tall. There are 50 or more surrounding you as the clitter and clatter in strange language none of you understand. Seeing your confusion an apparently older looking rodent steps forward and speaks in Deep Speech. "It has been ages since Dreamers have walked these woods." It's voice is high pitched and shrill. "What brings you to these lands?" As it speaks the creatures move slowly toward you all closing in from all sides.

Daventry, not understanding Deep Speech, hears the shrill voices as the creatures approach. She tries to take a measured approach, these things not as horrifying as the previous aberration... but understanding they are outnumbered.
"Uhm... Hello, creatures of the Dreamlands... We don't mean any harm, here..."she tries, looking to the others, her hands outstretched and away from her weapons.
A bit surprised that even with his quieting of their passage they were so easily spotted by these creatures, Pardot simply pauses like a cat caught sneaking around, and unable to understand their speech, looks to the others and readies himself to run should it come to that.
"Well, hello!" Triäsa says to them in Common, still not understanding what they are saying. "These seem like friendly sorts. Does anyone understand them? I could try a spell, but it wouldn't really let me talk to them. Just understand."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"I recognize the language as Deep Speech, a language associated with aberrations, not necessarily sinister but we should be careful nonetheless." Ludolf says quietly to the others in the team before taking a step forward to address the rodent-like creatures. "Greetings, we come in peace, seeking a way to the city Kadath if you could give us directions." The old man says with a polite bow.
