EDIT: Looking to fill slots and then I'll work out if we just continue on or restart or whatevs. I'm going to leave this recruitment up for a longer period this time.
Current Party: Bard Ranger
I'm going to be putting together another campaign to run here in the forum!
Expectations are as follow:
Party size will be 5.
Starting level will be 11. The reason for this being...It's a campaign to kill a god, Joebob the Farmer who just recently found out his dad boinked a dragon so he's got magic is not going to be taking up this task. Unsure of the ending level, but it will be pretty up there.
I enjoy RP a lot. This is not a roll-dice-smash-heads-only type of campaign. There will be puzzles you must solve, information you must find, and allies you must gain.
Semi-loose posting requirements. Once a day is preferred - if you miss days don't make a habit of it and let us know in advance if you can. On that note, I'll be gone for over a week mid June for a vacation. This may be slowed down in the future as schedules require.
I'm most active U.S. East 6pm - 2am. All timezones welcome though.
Roll for ability scores, re-roll 1's. Same to level up hit-die if you roll for those instead of taking the average.
Pretty much all published content should be okay. Just ask if you aren't sure.
Here's an info dump: A broken world, shattered by a divine war that saw the destruction of all pantheons. Alone among the ruin stood Ixarus, the Absolute. Declaring himself the one true god of all, that which remained of mortalkind soon found itself forced beneath his tyrannical rule. Millennia have passed since the Absolute’s reign began. Resistances have been put down mercilessly, their leaders made examples of for all to see. Inquisitions have risen to hunt the faithless, heretics, and those otherwise deemed unworthy, striking fear into the hearts of the populace. Despite this, there still remain those willing to rebel, risking the vengeful wrath of the lone god.
They meet in the long abandoned sanctuaries of the old deities, where vestiges of their power still yet remain - enough to shield them from the ever-watchful eyes of Ixarus. In secret, they plot his demise.
To walk this path is to sacrifice everything, the task you face is considered impossible, the obstacles you must overcome - overwhelming. This journey would shatter the will of ordinary people, and cause the courage of legendary heroes to waver. Do you have what it takes to become a godslayer?
Belorion The southernmost country of Mera, encompassing a region that came out of the Divine War relatively unscathed. It is ruled by King Neram, whose authority is superseded only by the archbishop and Ixarus himself. Though it is one of the easier nations of Mera to live in, all of its citizens still feel the oppression of the Absolute. Neighbor spies on neighbor, reporting their smallest infractions to the local priests in vain attempts to curry favor. Inquisitors snatch loved ones in the dead of night, never to be seen again. The people live in fear, though they dare not show it in public, lest they draw the ire of the church.
All nations of Mera worship Ixarus, but they do not live in harmony - in fact, the Absolute finds entertainment in pitting the mortal powers against one another. Belorion currently finds itself embroiled in a conflict against the Thezar Confederacy, a mageocratic nation across the Lasting Sea. Knight templars battle along the Saline Coast, as the Confederacy pushes its invasion further into Belorion’s territory.
Amidst the chaos of the war, conspirators begin to make their moves against the mad god, gathering at Sanctuary, in the shadow of the Dreadreach Mountains…
More Info Dump:
For Clerics, this setting may seem difficult. A Cleric of Ixarus will almost certainly have their power stripped the moment they move against him. The other deities are dead, but vestiges of their power remain. These vestiges have little in the way of consciousness, but there are those who have found sacred rites to draw upon their power...Your faith will be a closely guarded secret however. Druidic worshipers of nature would likewise be seen as heretics.
In Belorion, users of the arcane are reviled, in no small part due to the near constant conflicts with the mageocractic nation to the north.
NOTE: You can still play these classes, and it's encouraged. Just wanted the RP implications to be out in the open before you go trying to impress a barmaid with prestidigitation
While the other deities are long gone, other creatures loyal to them may still yet remain. Powerful entities that have likewise suffered underneath the Absolute may be willing to form pacts with mortals set upon the course of deicide.
With the exception of the Thezar Confederacy, Mera is relatively low arcane. Do not expect to find many arcane casters, and don't expect a great many magic items.
This campaign will loosely follow a quest to complete seven tasks required to slay a god. There will be more than enough room for side story, character drive quests, or whatever madness you find yourselves involved in.
Application Stuff: If you want more help with character creation(lore stuff, or help with concepts) just ask!
Name - Race - Class - Backstory - (short or as long as you want) Motivation for wanting to kill Ixarus -
Hi, this sounds fun and I would be keen. Have played and DMed 5e quite a lot but never done one of these play by post things. Thinking of a paladin, will provide backstory etc when I get a chance
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Name: Galaster/Corthas
Race: Eladrin (Autumn)
Class: Rogue (Assassin) 11
Backstory: Inquisitor Galaster. Rather ruthless in his pursuit of those seen in defiance of the Absolute. It didn't take too much thought to know who the right side to be on was, and that was the side with all the power and all the opportunity one could hope for. And so, one conspirator leader after another disappeared - Galaster's handiwork. And he was proud of it.
However, the day that an army was sent to raid and destroy his home city was the day he turned. Seeing what his comrades had done, he turned against his own squad, then vanished, paying a wizard to alter his appearance for his own safety's sake. Even after adopting the name Corthas and finding a new, steady life, he knows that the charade can't last forever. Thus, he finds himself travelling to Sanctuary. He's a dead man either way, perhaps he'll have a shot here.
Motivation for wanting to kill Ixarus: Corthas would rather not have anything to do with the situation at all. However, he's in over his head at this point. Ixarus' death, while impossible, would be a major boon for his life and allow him to leave his past behind.
Backstory - Syltris was born into the Mossdream family, a house of elves who had remained opposed to Ixarus ever since their ascension to godhood and becoming 'The Absolute'. Over 100 years, she was bought up into the rich lore and art in the bladesinger tradition, until some band of Inquisitors raided the elven village. Syltris was sent out with a small band of children her age, as the distant sounds of the battle wailed through the night. The small group of elves fled deeper into the forests, practicing their skill against one another to one day be able to find their families, or avenge them.
They hid in the forests for 20 years, before the group became confident enough in their abilities to set out and begin their quest. They paired up, leaving Syltris the odd one one, and then voyaged off to find their own ways of killing the absolute, or restoring the elven gods. taking a subtle route, Syltris became a travelling adventurer, going from town to town, taking lodging and information as her only rewards for her completing quests they may have. Its been what seems like an instant to the elf, but they set out for adventure 15 years ago, almost to the day. Syltris has yet to encounter any inquisitors, but she leaves as quick as she comes to these towns, so that even if she's reported, she'll be long gone before they arrive.
Motivation for wanting to kill Ixarus - Ixarus killed the elven gods, those who first sang the bladesong, and ever since bladesinging has slowly died out. Presumably one of the last of her kind, the death of Ixarus is her path forward, to avenge the elven gods and restore the ancient tradition to its former glory

Quick Backstory: Galant is a VHuman who is part of an inter-race tribe of people who travel The Shadowfell near it's entrances to kill horrid beasts that live there. For many years, they were prosperous, selling parts of the horrors to some who have... unique tastes. However, the entire clan got a bit bigheaded after beating many powerful foes. They planned to assassinate a [Tooltip Not Found], but the Lord learned of their plot. It became an all-out battle between the two forces. They lost. They took little casualties, because of how useless they were, and the Lord almost immediately exiled them to the real world, scattered. It is to be noted that all the warriors were monks. Now, Galant just wants to survive, and curses himself and the other leaders for even trying to kill the Lord.
Some stuff about the clan: ~1450 warriors, after casualties. Led by 6 leaders: The Naturespeak, The Battler, The Magepunch, The Socialite, The Logisticsolver, and The Shaman. These each have roles (Naturespeak =Druid, Battler = Best Fighter, Magepunch= Melee Spellcaster (I;E 4 elements or Paladin), Socialite= Head Merchant, Logisticsolver= One who uses the Money, and Shaman= Preist)

Backstory: A elvish druid who gets her powers from the stars above, she has for years felt troubled by this evil god of the humans. For many years, she has focused on developing her abilities, improving her skills, with a singular focus- to destroy the Mad God.
Name - Oren Thunderbough Race - Human v (mage slayer) Class - Fighter Backstory - Oren was a priest of Ixarus, sussing out heretics and unbelievers. For many years, he was numbered among those who would snatch families in the night to disappear into the temples never to be heard from again. His specialty was the apprehension of mages. His martial talent only exceeded by his devotion.
For a few years now, his zeal has been cooling. He begins to question the necessity of his inquisition. He sometimes reads the books of his heathens, and has found them beautiful before throwing them on the pyre.
Oren “Stone Heart” Thunderbough now finds himself revolting against the dogma, the blind hate and injustice of the Absolute. He can’t keep killing the innocent. Nor can he tolerate it. The only way for it to end is in the end of Ixarus, and the thralldom in which he holds the world.
Name - Zenytir Herrera Race - Harengon (Medium) Class - Cleric (Forge Domain) Backstory - Weapons manufacturer who discovered a power that could put him ahead, but realized he couldn't actually use it without drawing attention. To share his abilities with apprentices, he needed to make sure they didn't turn him in. When Herrera Arms was nationalized, he found himself with the free time to do something about his problems. Motivation for wanting to kill Ixarus - To make magic weapon manufacturing using Moradin's power legal.
Name - Hadi Benotto Race - High Elf Class - Wizard Backstory - Hadi's family could trace their lineage back almost to the Divine War, and they are sure their family was of import before then, but many records were lost; but for a family of High Elves, tracking their history over a few millennia is a interesting pursuit. Hadi had been pushed to study hard as a child in the arcane sciences, as all first born males in the Family were, though found himself bored of it, often asking himself what the point of it all was. After making little headway at getting Hadi to study, on his 150th year, his parents decided to send him away to a on 'cabin' that the family had secluded in the mountains. It was rarely used, though they had servants go up once a year to keep things tidy of course. At first Hadi was not enjoying his seclusion at all. There were none of his friends, or any of the entertainments of the city life to which he'd grown accustomed. Until one day, bored out of his mind, he decided to go into the library and see what there was to read. If he was stuck here to 'study', perhaps he could finally start, he thought to himself. A book with a silver, almost iridescent binding, attracted his attention, and sitting down to read it, didn't get up again until the sun rose the next morning. He'd found it! an arcane science related to sword play! Something kept from his family for generations! And what's more... the book itself was old. Old beyond reasoning. Though magically still in pristine condition. There more he read, the more he realized it had been written before the War! There were still mentions to the 'gods,' plural! And even mentions of the last bladesinger. His great great... grandfather. Struck down by Ixarus Himself! Hadi vowed then and there, to study the arcane, and the blade, and return to claim his grandfather's honor. Motivation for wanting to kill Ixarus - ((see last sentence above~))
other than starting at level 11... how does gear work? And, as a wizard, might he have found/bought any additional spells along the way?
Name - Leandra Lantherval Race - Elf Class - Cleric Ability scores -14121014915, will switch to point buy Backstory - Leandra was born into the militant clergy of the now slain elven deity Solonor Thelandira. Despite no longer having the guiding wisdom and light of their god, the militant wing (responsible for protecting the forest and enforcing Solonor Thelandira's directives), was able to persist in secret. As a follower of the Elven god of archery, Leandra is a sniper cleric, specializing in dispensing physical and magic justice from a distance. Motivation for wanting to kill Ixarus - Born to dual militant cleric parents sworn to continue the church of Solonor Thelandira and restore the world order, Leandra has been groomed since birth to work toward the overthrow of Ixarus the Usurper.

Name: Kythaela Nightstone
Race: Wood Elf
Class: Druid
Backstory: Growing up in a town of Belorion, Kythaela never really fit in with others. When she was a young adult (by human standards), her parents were taken by Inquisitors who suspected them to be heretics, and she fled. She ran unsure of where she was going, until in the middle of the woods she found a hidden druid circle. They took her in, and for decades she was one of them. For decades, they were safe, and she was happy.
Then a new member joined, a human named Cecilia. Kythaela found herself drawn to her, and the two became lovers. This lasted for several years before Cecilia showed her true colors--she had arrived to the circle not in good faith wanting to learn, but as a mission from the church of Ixarus, to weed out heretics. She slaughtered everyone in the circle--except for Kythaela. She was allowed to continue living, or perhaps forced to. Since then, Kythaela's been traveling, never staying in one village or city or campsite for long, trying to pick up the pieces. Until now.
Motivation: Worshippers of Ixarus have taken everything Kythaela holds dear--first her parents, then her circle, and in a twisted way, her lover. She won't stand for it any longer.

If we are not meant to be free, then why are we created at all?
Backstory :
Grew up in poverty on the streets of a large city.
Sneaking some food from a vendor one afternoon, I was caught by the guards.
With the war waging, I was pressed into military service as a criminal, to serve my time.
As I trained I became quite good at the rapier, and being a gnome naturally gifted against spellcasters. I was soon pulled into a squad of mage hunters who trained to fight 1:1 duels with mages on the battlefield.
Nearly 7 years have passed since my incarceration.
My time served, I have now been thrown back into normal society. Forced to try and live a life I haven't known in years and can never really return to.
I have no skills but those for killing, and a sickness in my gut for the cruelty of the gods.

Name - Circe Morgana Stormbender Race - Variant Human Class - Artificer Backstory - (short or as long as you want)
Circe comes from a lesser known noble family within the Thezar Confederacy. Her mother had passed hen she was quite young, and her father had raised her the only way he knew how. As a result, she grew up bombarded by notions of honor and duty. While their family did not have the highest ranking among the other Nobles, they were well respected, as their bloodline was known to produce powerful sorcerers. For generations, her family had served the Confederacy's government loyally, in times of peace as magical advisors, and in times of war as War mages. This was a matter of great pride for her father, making it all the more heartbreaking for him when it became clear that for whatever reason, the family magic was almost non-existent in Circe, his eldest daughter. Her father was quite adept at maneuvering through the politics of the noble Court, so he quickly squashed any rumors that might suggest the family's magical bloodline was weakening. He kept Circe out of the public spotlight, turning his focus to training her younger sister Sylvia. Eventually, Circe became bitter, jealous of what her sister could do, angry that her father was so quick to toss her aside, but most of all, desperate to prove to both of them that she could do better, that she didn't need their magic, she would make her own. She poured over every book in her family's library, studying magical theory, and discovering how to replicate those techniques through mostly mechanical means. On her 18th birthday she showed her father what she had learned, what she could do, a few small prototypes, and her notes and essays on how this could allow her to not only equal, but perhaps even surpass their family's magic eventually. That was the proudest moment of her life, and deep down she hoped it would finally earn her father's approval. After looking over it all, her father calmly took the papers she handed to him, walked to the fireplace in his office, and threw the pages into the fire. Circe watched in horror as over 4 year's worth of research, years of her life, vanished into smoke and ash in a matter of seconds. Before she could react, her father strode across the room, slapping her across the face, his look one of stern disappointment. She could manage little more than a yelp of surprise, her hand shooting to her stinging cheek, which was bright red from the impact of her father's hand. He sneered down at her, telling her that no daughter of his would ever be allowed to resort to such pathetic, mechanical imitations of magic. He began lecturing her on how lucky she was that he hadn't disowned her years ago for being such a useless child. In that moment she snapped, unleashing a torrent of insults at her father. Years of pent up frustration and bitterness came rushing out all at once, and at the end of it, she didn't bother waiting for his response. She stormed out of the room, telling him he needn't bother disowning her, vowing that she would return one day and prove him wrong, that she didn't need his wealth or influence, or his magic to become powerful. She packed her bags that night and ran, vanishing into the darkness. Since then she's traveled all over, taking what jobs she could, and keeping her identity a secret, an easy enough task since her father had practically hidden her from the world. It was made even easier when she eventually made her way to Belorion. Her one goal is to eventually return home having become more powerful than her father or sister ever could have dreamed and finally force them to acknowledge her as the superior mage, whether it be as a public figure or on the field of battle. Motivation for wanting to kill Ixarus -
A combination of spite and convenience is what is driving her to take down the so called god. She doesn't seem particularly interested in making life better for the general population, her reasons are far less noble. The idea of anyone claiming to be the one true deity bothers her, as she places no faith in god of any kind. She doesn't deny their existence, but she considers herself a woman of science, having spent her whole life using her skills to replicate both divine and arcane magics, making so called "gods" no more worthy of worship than she herself is. It's also a personal mission. In her mind, there's no better way to prove to herself, her family, and the world, that she can be just as good as another magic wielder than by toppling a false god.

Name - Hadi Benotto
Race - High Elf
Class - Wizard
Backstory - Hadi's family could trace their lineage back almost to the Divine War, and they are sure their family was of import before then, but many records were lost; but for a family of High Elves, tracking their history over a few millennia is a interesting pursuit.

Backstory - Leandra was born into the militant clergy of the now slain elven deity Solonor Thelandira.

Motivation for wanting to kill Ixarus - He has embroiled my homeland into an unwinnable war that we never wanted to take part in. His cruel whims have killed my fellow soldiers, broken my body and mind, and put the entire future of my people in jeopardy. There is no semblance of true living while under the thumb of tyrant gods. If we are not meant to be free, then why are we created at all?
Backstory :
Name - Circe Morgana Stormbender
Race - Variant Human
Class - Artificer
Backstory - (short or as long as you want)
