In the great city of Neverwinter, each of you has been asked to meet Gundren Rockseeker, co-owner of Three Picks Mining and Delving Co., at the busy Beached Leviathan tavern. You've heard that Gundren is hiring for a job of some kind, and Three Picks has a reputation for paying on time and paying well. There's been little word about what this job might be, though. You walk into the bustling tavern on this cool spring evening, ready for whatever lies ahead.
Whether you're seeking coin, companionship, challenge or converts, this job might be just the one you were looking for...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hello! I'm KD. I'm looking for 5 PCs to play a modified Lost Mine of Phandelver. I've been DMing for over a decade in real life, though I've never run PbP before. Please be comfortable writing in English and willing to RP both during situations I provide and during "downtime" (PbP games get boring when nobody talks/gets to know each other in character unless the DM is posting). I'll be asking for a bare minimum of 1-2 posts a day from everyone involved, but more posting is encouraged (and will make this extremely stressed law student very happy). I'll leave this thread open until I get enough applications that I'm satisfied (hopefully more than 0), and then I'll pick 5 PCs. I'll give 12 hours' notice before I close the thread. New and experienced players are welcome to apply. I'd love to get a mix. Don't worry about making a sheet unless I pick you. Then worry about it a lot.
Please do not apply if you have previously played/DMed/read LMoP.
Stats: We'll use either 4d6 drop the lowest for everyone, or the ENTIRE PARTY uses point buy/standard array. This means if one person rolls low, they can ask the rest of the party to switch to point buy and you can all decide together. Feel free to roll in your character proposal if you want. We'll start at Level 1.
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions!
If you want to play, please answer The Questions Below in this thread. Feel free to attach an image if you'd like, but you don't have to.

What is your (the player's) favorite animal? Ostriches

Character Name: Ulla Boondiggles
Race/Class (no homebrew or UA please): Rock Gnome/Nature Cleric
Background: Witchlight Hand
Short backstory:
Ulla was born to a wealthy gnomish family. She was the middle child of 5 kids and would often be the mediator between her siblings. Growing up, she learned to have a real talent with animals and would often nurse injured ones she found in the nearby forest. One day, as a child, a blight ravaged her homeland which caused much life to die, including that of one of her older siblings. The family was devastated, mostly her mother who seemed to suddenly disappear without a trace. To cope with much sorrow, Ulla's father brought his family to attend the Witchlight Carnival which finally came back to the Material Plane after 8 years. While attending a small petting zoo, it was noticed that young Ulla was actually able to communicate with these animals, which stunned even the workers. Her talents were noticed by the owners Mister Witch and MIster Light and kept note of her.
After the carnival left, Ulla began to hone her talents with animals with a new motivation and support from her family. During this time helping injured animals, she was visited by a sentient giant badger who was under the service of Baervan Wildwanderer, the gnomish God of Forests, who informed her that she was blessed by the God to carry out his duties as one of his agents. Delighted at her new status, she worked harder than ever. When the Witchlight Carnival came back to town, she was now a young adult. Visiting once again with her family, she showcased her talents to the onlookers and workers alike at the petting zoo and animal shows. As the carnival was nearing an end, the owners approached Ulla, recognizing her as the young gnome from years before. Offering her a job as a worker at the carnival, Ulla accepted as a means of honing her skills further with more exotic animals, but also becoming more in-tune with nature.
After working for the carnival for a decade as Boondiggles the Whistler, animal handler, flute player, and whisperer, she finally made it back to the Material Plane a different gnome. She was stronger, wiser, her senses keen, and her attributes noticeably different thanks to time in the Feywild; such as her hair turning a permanent maroon and her eyes a pale green. Now back in the Material Plane, she visited her family and spent some time with them before heading up to Neverwinter in hopes of making her way in the world and spreading her good will. After hearing of a Mr. Rockseeker needing assistance with something, Ulla headed over to the tavern to start from there!
Traits (bond/ideal/flaw/general personality)--Feel free to write your own or use the ones in the books:
Personality Traits
I live by my own set of weird and wonderful rules. Good music makes me weep like a baby.
Ideals
Changeability. Change is good, which is why I live by an ever-changing set of rules. (Chaotic)
Bonds
A trusted friend is the most important thing in the multiverse to me.
Flaws
I never give away anything for free and always expect something in return.
Something interesting/unique about your character: My character's features were forever altered due to working in the Witchlight Carnival.
How much D&D experience do you have? PbP experience? I am pretty much a noobie. I am a fan of tabletop RPGs and familiar with some of the basic concepts of how the game works. However, I have never had the opportunity to play a true campaign. I have participated in a PbP before, but the campaign didn't last long.
What is your (the player's) favorite animal? Owl
Character Name: Wesford "Wes" Quixote
Race/Class (no homebrew or UA please): Human/Fighter-Archery
Background: Folk Hero
Short backstory: Wes is an elderly man who took up farming after being honorably discharged from the army. Wes runs a local farm with his wife and children. However, a recent storm and blite have brought his local farming community to the brink of ruin. Wes' military retirement salary and farming profits are simply not enough to restore the farm to its original condition. Although he is not as sharp or strong as he was in his youth and he is determined to do whatever it takes to save his farm, village, and take care of his family.
Traits (bond/ideal/flaw/general personality)--Feel free to write your own or use the ones in the books:

Something interesting/unique about your character: My brother is also an adventurer, but he is much more accomplished than me.
DnDBeyond Sheet Link (if you already have one):
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone, there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
How much D&D experience do you have? PbP experience? I've played D&D for about 15+ years, but haven't been able to play in a campaign for a while. This would be my first PbP campaign.

Character Name: Belwar Fixzlesprink
Race/Class (no homebrew or UA please): Rock Gnome Wizard

Short backstory: Belwar has lived his life vicariously through the stories in his books. Fiction, non-fiction, history...regardless of the subject Belwar will read it. Due to a childhood illness, Belwar's parents have taken great care to "protect" him from the world and books were his only escape. In secret, Belwar began to study the arcane arts to prove to himself he wasn't the frail, weak thing his parents thought he was. While reading a history book, he heard of the legends of The Lost Mine of Phandelver and became obsessed. He knew this was his chance to be a part of the stories he had read. Belwar packed up his bindle and set out to write his own story....the rest...we will write together.
Traits (bond/ideal/flaw/general personality)--Feel free to write your own or use the ones in the books:
Bond: I’ve been searching my whole life for the answer to a certain question.
Ideal: Knowledge. The path to power and self-improvement is through knowledge.
Flaw: I am easily distracted by the promise of information.
Personality: There’s nothing I like more than a good mystery. Knowledge can be better payment than coin.
Something interesting/unique about your character: Belwar's thirst for knowledge has led to a thirst to know the future. Despite being intelligent, Belwar views the world through eyes of whimsy and fantasy....like it is all one of his stories.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
How much D&D experience do you have? PbP experience?
About year and a half of both.

Ability scores: 141210161316
How much experience - played with friends over zoom since the pandemic started, just found pbp over the last couple weeks and really enjoying it. Part of a couple threads and getting the hang of typing out role-playing
What is my animal - She has a pet rat
Character Name - Meira
Race/Class - Tiefling Bard
Background - Urchin
Short backstory - Meira’s childhood is fuzzy to her, her earliest memory is in an orphanage and most of her memories are of the streets. She met another streetwise urchin that showed her the ropes, a half-orc Umarook. If it wasn’t for her friend she would have taken to a life of crime, but Umarook showed her that being part of society and “swindling” people out of their money was a much better life. Meira is very streetwise and hard, but is looking for a soft spot in her heart, she just doesn’t know it yet.
Personality trait - I sleep with my back to a wall or tree with everything I own in a bundle under my arm
Ideals - Aspiration, going to prove I’m worthy of a better life
Bonds - I owe my survival to another urchin who taught me to live on the streets
Flaws - It’s not stealing if I need it more than someone else
Something interesting - She has not known another tiefling. She grew up in an orphanage and escaped when she could - has not run into another.
How much D&D experience do you have? PbP experience? Quite a lot D&D experience, played almost every edition, starting with the so deadly 1st to the current 5th. Missed only 4th. Not much PbP experience, but given my curent situation I have no other options to play 5th edition, so I'm trying.
What is your (the player's) favorite animal? I like many animals, but no favored one in particular.
Character Idea: A champion of freedom that tries to overcome challenges with her wits, strength... and magic.
Character Name: Khessa Cabbagefield
Race/Class (no homebrew or UA please): Human/Fighter (will evolve as fighter-wizard)
Background: Folk Hero
Short backstory: Khessa was born to a peasant family, in a small village. At the age of 20 she is kidnapped, with her family, during a raid of drow slavers. With some luck she manages to free herself, along with some other slave from her village. After a a dangerous journey in the underground, during which she is forced on several occasions to defend herself in the hostile and unfamiliar environment (risking her life, but also honing her fighting skills), she manages to lead the slaves back to the surface. With her family still lost in drow hands, she becomes an adventurer; she will, when possible, help the defenseless (waiting to be able to help, some day, her family) and will satisfy the curiosity of the world that she had always had...
Traits (bond/ideal/flaw/general personality)--Feel free to write your own or use the ones in the books: Live free or die ("I'm Khessa, I'm free as the blowing wind") Fascinated by mistery or arcane She thinks: "I'll show the drows the same mercy they have shown me" (she will NOT kill peaceful drow on sight, of course, but she will be quite wary of every drow... and will show no mercy to an UNPEACEFUL drow - or to a slaver) Fear of total darkness She will do whatever it takes to free her kidnapped family from the drow (she will not go back to underdark alone to get uselessly killed... because if she gets killed, her family will be doomed to life-long slavery. But she will always keep her goal in mind - trying to get information, win allies, or improve herself until she will be able to go)
Something interesting/unique about your character: Something... more? Is Khessa not unique or interesting enough already? ;-)
Recruiting will be open all weekend, so anyone interested is encouraged to apply. Feel free to PM me if you don’t want to apply directly in thread for whatever reason. I look forward to seeing all the applications!
How much D&D experience do you have? PbP experience?
32 years. 10 years.
What is your (the player's) favorite animal?
Can I choose owlbear? If not regular bear.
Character Idea:
Character Name: Gwenna
Race/Class (no homebrew or UA please): Half-Elf Druid
Background: Cloistered Scholar
Short backstory: Gwenna grew up in a library. She had been fostered there by her adventuring parents, then stayed on after they were tragically killed by an owlbear. She had a hunger for knowledge of the natural world that she tried to sate through academic knowledge and working in gardens, but there was a desire for exposure to raw nature. She was frail, and her foster father, Horatio would not let her leave to explore. One day she snuck out on her own, and never looked back, compensating for her weaknesses with pluck and smarts.
Traits (bond/ideal/flaw/general personality)--Feel free to write your own or use the ones in the books: -Trait- Likes animals more than people. -Trait- Knows way too many rude jokes. -Ideal- People must remain in balance with nature. -Bond- While she ran away, she cares incredibly deeply for her Foster father. -Flaw- Gets upset when people try to help her.
Something interesting/unique about your character: She uses forearm crutches to make moving around easier.
How much D&D experience do you have? PbP experience?
10 years D&D experience mostly as a player, this would be my first time doing PbP!
What is your (the player's) favorite animal?
I think gorillas are cool
Character Idea: A half orc, half elven wizard who lost his orcish father at an early age, so he naturally began to take after his mother and put intelligence and kindness before brute savagery.
Short backstory:After losing his father to a band of orc in the wilds Dhurzag and his elven mother left the dangers of the wilderness for the big city. Under his mother's tutelage, Dhurzag began learning the magic art of bladesinging. It was, as his mother put it, "a way to satisfy both your elven curiosity and your orcish want for combat." Dhurzag eventually became a house agent, being sent on various dangerous missions, and has now been called to Three Picks Mining and Delvimg Co. (Would love to build the backstory with you more so it's more integrated into your setting)
Traits (bond/ideal/flaw/general personality)--Feel free to write your own or use the ones in the books:
Personality:
I’m always polite and respectful. I take on my mother's elven etiquette. I can stare down a hell hound without flinching. I have my father's orcish stare.
Ideals:
Live and Let Live. Ideals aren’t worth killing over or going to war for. We're much better bringing societies together to advance the world
Bonds:
I owe everything to my house, because they gave my mother and I a new life.
Flaws:
I love drink and other intoxicants.
Something interesting/unique about your character: Dhurzag is an internal clash of two very different cultures; orcish and elven. He secretly detests orcish culture (though he would never say such a thing out loud) and strives to be more elven like, like his mother.
How much D&D experience do you have? PbP experience? I have played for a couple years and played on one pbp, which never really got going, but i have some experience dealing with discord bots and such.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
How much D&D experience do you have? PbP experience? I am new to dnd and new to pbp having only just joined a campaign over the weekend
What is your (the player's) favorite animal? Dragons. Who doesn't love dragons.
Character Idea: An undead warlock who debuffs enemies. Her patron is an ancient lich who once lead great armies and needs his phylactery refilled.
Character Name: Zunatah
Race/Class (no homebrew or UA please): Half-Orc Warlock
Background: Outlander
Short backstory: Zanatah was born in a small town in the mountains. There she and her family managed a small ranch. As she grew, Zanatah caught the eye of a local boy, Ollim. She moved in with his family and began to help on their ranch. One day, while Zanatah was working in the fields, a roaming tribe of barbarians attacked her village. She rushed home to find Ollim slumped against her family's door in a pool of blood. Around him lay five of the barbarians. Zanatah rushed into her house to find her family safe thanks to Ollim's sacrifice. Zanatah was crushed and that night as she lit a pyre for her beloved she whispered a prayer saying she would do whatever it took to bring him back to her. As the flames began to rise, she heard an ancient voice. It croaked, "He may rise again. But I will need you to do something for me." Zanatah agreed in an instant. In a flash of light Olllim rose from the pyre and stumbled off of it. The voice told Zanatah he required her to go south, and to seek out conflict.
Traits (bond/ideal/flaw/general personality)--Feel free to write your own or use the ones in the books:
Traits: I'm always picking things up, absently fiddling with them, and sometimes accidently breaking them. I like to read and memorize poetry, it keeps me calm. I hate members of the northern tribes, one of which raided my home. I've felt uneasy around corpses since my husband came back.
Bond: I have sworn to serve a master to save my husband. My family is the most important thing to me.
Ideal: I like to know my enemy's capabilities and weaknesses before rushing into battle (Lawful)
Flaws: I remember every insult I've received and nurse a silent resentment toward anyone who's ever wronged me. I am claustrophobic.
Something interesting/unique about your character: Her form of dread causes a crown of roses to appear over her head and a dark veil to fall over her now skeletal face. She also doesn't drink, since she made her pact her patron has made her agree to not consume alcohol.
I’ll be closing applications this evening around 6 PST, so please feel free to get any applications in if you might want to play. I love how much interest there’s already been!

Hello, KD! I hope you are doing well :)

Character Idea:
A champion of freedom that tries to overcome challenges with her wits, strength... and magic.
Character Name:
Khessa Cabbagefield
Race/Class (no homebrew or UA please):
Human/Fighter (will evolve as fighter-wizard)
Background:
Folk Hero
Short backstory:
Khessa was born to a peasant family, in a small village.
Traits (bond/ideal/flaw/general personality)--Feel free to write your own or use the ones in the books:
Live free or die ("I'm Khessa, I'm free as the blowing wind")
Fascinated by mistery or arcane
She thinks: "I'll show the drows the same mercy they have shown me" (she will NOT kill peaceful drow on sight, of course, but she will be quite wary of every drow... and will show no mercy to an UNPEACEFUL drow - or to a slaver)
Fear of total darkness
She will do whatever it takes to free her kidnapped family from the drow (she will not go back to underdark alone to get uselessly killed... because if she gets killed, her family will be doomed to life-long slavery. But she will always keep her goal in mind - trying to get information, win allies, or improve herself until she will be able to go)
Something interesting/unique about your character:
Something... more? Is Khessa not unique or interesting enough already? ;-)
Recruiting will be open all weekend, so anyone interested is encouraged to apply. Feel free to PM me if you don’t want to apply directly in thread for whatever reason.
I look forward to seeing all the applications!

Can I choose owlbear? If not regular bear.
Character Idea:
Character Name: Gwenna
Race/Class (no homebrew or UA please): Half-Elf Druid

Short backstory: Gwenna grew up in a library. She had been fostered there by her adventuring parents, then stayed on after they were tragically killed by an owlbear. She had a hunger for knowledge of the natural world that she tried to sate through academic knowledge and working in gardens, but there was a desire for exposure to raw nature. She was frail, and her foster father, Horatio would not let her leave to explore. One day she snuck out on her own, and never looked back, compensating for her weaknesses with pluck and smarts.
Traits (bond/ideal/flaw/general personality)--Feel free to write your own or use the ones in the books:
-Trait- Likes animals more than people.
-Trait- Knows way too many rude jokes.
-Ideal- People must remain in balance with nature.

THE QUESTIONS BELOW:
How much D&D experience do you have? PbP experience?
10 years D&D experience mostly as a player, this would be my first time doing PbP!
What is your (the player's) favorite animal?
I think gorillas are cool
Character Idea: A half orc, half elven wizard who lost his orcish father at an early age, so he naturally began to take after his mother and put intelligence and kindness before brute savagery.
Character Name:
Dhurzag Bibulous
Race/Class (no homebrew or UA please):
Custome lineage (half orc, half elf) Wizard Bladesinger
Background: House agent

What is your (the player's) favorite animal? Dragons. Who doesn't love dragons.
