Hey there, D&D Beyonders, after dealing with plenty of burnout over the past few months regarding PbP, I think I'm finally ready to throw my hat back in the ring. I'd like to run the adventures in the new Strixhaven sourcebook! I am looking for FOUR (4)students to join the ranks of Strixhaven's latest cohort of first-year students. I already have one interested user who I have penciled in, so I am looking for four more applicants to make it a party of five!
For those of you unfamiliar with Strixhaven, here is some essential information, which was compiled by DM_BFEgypt (who will be filling in the fifth PC slot of this adventure) straight from the source material:
"A magical world boasts many places where students can study magic and many sages who take eager learners under their wings. But being accepted to Strixhaven University is a special honor, the dream of many young students. Strixhaven is a place of enlightenment and learning, and both its graduates and its delegates are typically welcomed and respected wherever they go.
Founded seven centuries ago by five ancient dragons, Strixhaven is the premier institution of magical learning, drawing promising young mages from all over. Each equipped with its own campus and faculty, Strixhaven’s five colleges cover a vast array of academic and magical specialties.
As a Strixhaven student, you start with a well-rounded education in a rigorous first-year program. In your second year, you choose your preferred specialty at one of the five colleges. You can also partake in a vibrant campus life, with plenty of clubs and other activities. You might even play on one of Strixhaven’s prestigious Mage Tower teams and bask in the adoration of cheering crowds!
College
Description
Lorehold
Explores the past and preserves its lessons for future generations. Also called the College of Archaeomancy.
Prismari
Uses the elements to practice the arts. Also called the College of Elemental Arts.
Quandrix
Focuses on the mathematics of nature. Also called the College of Numeromancy.
Silverquill
Teaches the magic of rhetoric, poetry, oration, and writing. Also called the College of Eloquence.
Witherbloom
Harnesses the forces of life and death. Also called the College of Essence Studies.
Strixhaven Is a University
Even as they get caught up in the adventures, the characters have to continue going to class, doing homework, and studying for exams.
The characters are also subject to the authority of the university’s faculty and staff members. Circumstances will at times cause player characters to defy faculty authority—and even deans—during their adventures, and the threat of detention or even expulsion might hang over their head.
Finally, student characters are part of a school community. They live in university housing, eat in dining halls, and spend the majority of their time on campus. They eat, sleep, study, socialize, and adventure as part of a community of students, faculty, and staff. The school is like a town, where a relatively small cast of characters can play significant roles over the course of the campaign.
It’s an Academy of Mages
Study at Strixhaven isn’t about learning to be a wizard but about learning to be a historian, an artist, an orator, a scientist, or some other profession—while using magic to enhance one’s studies. The university’s understanding of magic is expansive. Characters of any class can study at Strixhaven, whether they’re full-fledged spellcasters like wizards, clerics, and druids; they manage a spell or two thanks to a subclass or feat; or they manifest magical abilities that aren’t even spells. (For example, a barbarian who follows the Path of the Ancestral Guardian, described in Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, can excel in studying history at Lorehold College by virtue of their connection to an ancestral spirit.)
Magic is everywhere on campus. The campus culture encourages finding magical solutions to the most mundane problems, and if characters need access to a spell they can’t cast, they have a strong chance of finding someone who can cast it.
It’s Cosmopolitan
Strixhaven draws students and faculty from across the world and from other realms in the multiverse. The university’s students and faculty are united by a desire to learn and include humans, elves, dwarves, owlin , orcs, trolls, vampires, and studious folk of many other origins.
In practical terms, for player characters, you can use the rules found in any D&D book to select a character’s race, if the DM approves. For nonplayer characters, you’re as likely to meet a pixie, a dryad, a giant, a treant, or another fantastical creature on campus as you are to meet a Humanoid. The faculty members include genasi, tritons, and even a bipedal brown bear.
To the faculty and students of Strixhaven, it is unremarkable to meet someone who hails from a far-off land, since almost everyone on campus is from somewhere else. Strixhaven has a place for anyone who is dedicated to magic-enhanced study." SOURCE: Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos
STRIXHAVEN UNIVERSITY, WITH THE (CENTER) BIBLIOPLEX SURROUNDED BY (TOP) SILVERQUILL AND (GOING CLOCKWISE) QUANDRIX, WITHERBLOOM, PRISMARI, AND LOREHOLD
Keep in mind that while these adventures will feature some classic D&D elements like combat and dungeon crawls, for the most part this campaign will rely on a lot of role playing! You'll befriend and/or make rivals of fellow students; join clubs and work at jobs; attend classes, parties, and on-campus events; and investigate various mysteries unfolding across the grounds of Strixhaven. You may even fall in love and start a romantic relationship, though if you are not comfortable with the idea of role-playing romance, that will certainly not be a problem.
Any official published race and class is authorized for player use. No homebrew, please. Please choose the Strixhaven Initiate background for your character, associated with whichever college your character intends to choose as their field of study (if you do not have access, I will share content once I select the final group for the campaign). Do note that you will start the game as level one first year students. You will not be a member of any of the five colleges yet, but you are allowed to choose which one you would like to go into in advance. At the beginning of your second year, you will be allowed to join one of the five colleges as a fully fledged member.
I will be accepting applications until tomorrow, December 15th at 4:00 PM Pacific (UTC - 8). Players of all experience levels are welcome, so long as they are respectful and considerate of their fellows. Once I have closed the thread, I will review the applications and choose four (4) of them to join the party for this adventure.
Application:
Character Name:
Race/Lineage:
Age:
Class: (Please specify which subclass(es) you are interested in going into. Multiclassing down the line is totally fine.)
College to Join: (Choose one; you will be permitted to take classes at other colleges, but you must pick one to be primarily affiliated with.)
Reason for wanting to join College:
A few words to describe your character:
Appearance: (Optional. Feel free to include a short verbal description or a picture, such as a Hero Forge mini screenshot.)
Sample Application:
Character Name: Marlia Menelos
Race: Tiefling (Asmodeus)
Age: 18
Class: Wizard (Subclass: Bladesinger)
College to Join: Prismari
Reason for wanting to join College: I come from a long line of fire dancers and wish to further hone my artistic expression through dance and elemental magics. Prismari would be the perfect fit for someone with my talents and artistic drive!
A few words to describe your character: Artistic, passionate, perfectionist, ambitious, short-tempered.
Appearance: A lavender-skinned tiefling with yellow eyes and long black hair, usually tied up in a bun. She's modified her uniform to allow for maximum comfort and flexibility for dancing while remaining within school dress code rules.
Class: Artificer (Undecided subclass, leaning towards battlesmith or armorer) ((I, like Ambre, have a hard time making up my mind))
College to Join: Prismari
Reason for wanting to join College: Ambre's father attended school at Strixhaven, often regaling her with stories of his own time there. And while he always went on and on about the adventures to be had at Lorehold, Ambre never considered herself someone who wanted to sit down and study the way he did. She liked to work with her hands, and the classes and environment of Prismari made her even more excited than she already was when she first found out about the school
A few words to describe your character: Inquisitive, Clumsy, Absentminded, Eager, Likes to Fidget
Character Name: Robin Holdcrest Race/Lineage: Custom Lineage Age: 20 Class: Artificer (Multiclassing into Wizard at level 2 and going Chronomancy) College to Join: Lorehold
Reason for wanting to join College: Robin believes the study of history will help her in her desire to study time magics. Learning what has come before, and what happened then, and seeking to understand how time passes and changes things.
A few words to describe your character: She is a history buff who uses words as her magic. By this I mean she writes out her spells as she casts them, using her writing tools to create her spells. She is booksmart, though may lack a bit on the common sense side of things.
Appearance: (Optional. Feel free to include a short verbal description or a picture, such as a Hero Forge mini screenshot.) Robin is a pretty red-head. She has emerald green eyes, wears armor - when possible, , and has ink stains on her fingers. She tends to keep her long red hair tied back in a pony or braid.
College: Either Silverquill or Prismari. Probably Silverquill but taking a lot of overlap classes and hanging out with the Prismari kids.
Reason for joining that College: Marius grew up in the theater. Both of his parents were thespians, and he came to love it as he grew as well. Most of his closest friends are part of his theatre family, and he always wanted to go into it. He was born with unpredictable fey magic suffusing his being, occasionally erupting forth, so he knew he had to get training to control it. During high school, he was part of Thespian Troupe #0831, and was an actor in several productions and a stage manager in a few. He has never sought the spotlight, but will accept it if put into a lead position. When he applied and was admitted to Strixhaven, he sort of accidentally blew up his room in excitement. He is still unsure as to whether to go into Prismari or Silverquill, but is leaning towards the second. Both have much to teach him in the way of the thespian, and he looks forward to new friends, productions, and adventures!
A few words about Marius: Thespian, kind, thoughtful, eager, sentimental, emotional, friendly, supportive.
Note: Full disclosure, I've also applied for DM_BFEgypt's campaign with Marius, but PCs have yet to be selected. I really fell in love with this character when creating him, and really want to play him, so I've applied to both, but I may be forced to withdraw my application if I'm accepted to that one!
Race/Lineage: Human / variant (Feat Alert, I don't have the dnd beyond sources yet so I am tacking it on description: other)
Age: 18
Class: Wizard (subclass evocation or transmutation)
College to Join: Silverquill
Reason for wanting to join College: Even though he was pressured to learn from his family, Asimonius is excited to go to college. He wants to know how to make potions and items.
A few words to describe your character: A bright eyed lad that seems to be enthusiastic to learn. He will talk your ear off if you get to one of the subjects he is familiar with, willing to share knowledge, even if others do not wish to hear it.
Appearance: Jet black hair with green eyes. He wears mostly blue colors. His clothes seem to be clean even during one of the art classes, as he uses prestidigitation and mending to keep his clothes in peak condition.
Reason for wanting to join College: Hendrix has always been fascinated with both life and death. His flock inhabits trees outside a Luxodon burial ground where the bodies have been used as food but also as part of their religion. Word had been spread from Luxodons that Strixhaven was accepting new students and the elders of the Korebole tribe nominated Hendrix as a potential student for the college.
A few words to describe your character: Hendrix is an Owlin who has always had a passion for magic and has spent most of his free time is trying to learn more. What many don't know is that the death of his nestmate (sibling) has always caused concern for Hendrix. Though he is very bookish, his talent and desire have always been in having a hand in both life and death.
Appearance: Hendrix is a tan and brown owl who looks similar to the Pueo owls of Hawaii. He wears a bandana made from the security blanket his nestmate had as a baby and a book in a holster under his left arm. His tribe, and himself, are covered in feathers and so clothing is seen only for ceremony.
Reason for wanting to join College: After falling off a gith raiding vessel in the wilderness, hitting his head, and (conveniently) forgetting how to be a bad person, Jedavii was found and raised by a village of halflings. In return, he kept them safe from bears and the odd bandit. However, the village elder told of nearby cities that had been attacked by creatures (demons, elementals, etc.) from other planes of existence, and the gith knew he could not stand up to them. The village's hope for protecting itself laid in the study of the planes, which led our valiant gith hero to Strixhaven.
A few words to describe your character: Perky, Nosy, Halfling-Like, Tempermental (Rarely), Carefree. Very good cook.
Reason for wanting to join College: Aithne has always had a hunger for knowledge and a desire to unravel the mysteries of the world around her. Her parents could hardly keep up with the girl's desperate desire for books and literature. The manifestation of her magic seemed a natural extension of her enthusiasm for learning the secrets of spellcraft and other arcane lore. With Strixhaven University acting as the foremost institution in the teachings of the magical arts, her interest in attending the academy has been unparalleled.
A few words to describe your character: Passionate, motivated, eager, thoughtful, studious, loyal, kind, naïve, oblivious.
Appearance: Aithne's raven hair falls to mid-back, interspersed with stripes of deep red throughout. Her ears, delicately pointed, are pierced in several spots, allowing her to display a range of different jewelry pieces, often accompanied by finely crafted chains or fragile silver bells. Her lenses are either adorning her face or being nibbled on as she tries to decipher a complex piece of language or an intricate magical rune. She is very rarely seen without a tome, scroll, spellbook, or other piece of text. Often, she will be reading even as she walks from class to class, murmuring apologies to anyone she bumps in the process.
Race: Variant Human (w/ Keen Mind feat, which seems to fit well with the descriptions below)
Age: 25
Class: Wizard (w/ no interest in multiclassing; intending to pursue Divination)
College to Join: Quandrix
Reason for wanting to join College: I recognize that the known world is filled with patterns, rhythms, and sequences (without which there would be only chaos and confusion). Predictably reliable and reliably predictable: that is the nature of our existence! Quandrix will grant me a deeper understanding and appreciation for the beautiful mathematical order that is all around us.
A few words to describe your character: Mildly pedantic but kind hearted; socially awkward but unaware of it; impatient; driven to read anything he can find.
Reason for wanting to join College: Avrol's main reason for wishing to join Lorehold is the legacy of his father. His father was particularly well-known in the field of history, while his mother taught languages at the same school in Baldur's Gate. While Arvol also had a very strong education, he was a bit rebellious against the strict studiousness of his parents and 2 brothers and 2 sisters. The result is that he became a bit more of a trickster, even sneaking away from home and getting into trouble on the streets of Baldur's Gate from time to time. However, while shirking his more bookish studies, he found he had a bit of affinity for magic. That discovery eventually drew him back to education and he became fascinated by how magic and lore of the past intersect. He wants to study at Strixhaven to hopefully build on his current knowledge of magic.
A few words to describe your character: pessimistic, curious, mischievous, disobedient, good-hearted
Appearance: Short black hair, light-skinned, and hazel eyes.
Character Name: Usul Harj Race/Lineage: Forest Gnome Age: 17 Class: Rogue (Arcane Trickster at 3) College to Join: Quandrix Reason for wanting to join College:Usul has been on his own for a few years now already. After an accident left him alone, he’s been living on the streets of Neverwinter ((or other big city nearby)) using his natural Gnomish illusions, and the occasional slight of hand, to earn coin and keep himself alive. He only has a small pet rodent as a friend or family, though he often sleeps under the table at Mom’s (no one knows her real name, but she often gives those who need it food and a fire to warm themselves). One day he was ‘exploring’ the house of a wizard that he’d ‘found’ the key for, looking for anything shiny, though mistimed his adventure and the old gnome wizard, who goes by the name Mr. Kwiz, though that’s likely short for something else, caught him in the act. Mr. Kwiz, taking pity on the small gnome, who reminded him a bit of himself at a much younger age, took Usul in to work under him, and in exchange taught him a small bit of the arcane here and there. A short time later, Kwiz got an invitation in the mail for the Strixhaven academy to be a lecturer, but, having no time, declined, instead asking if he could send his protégé to learn. Usul was all to happy to find out he’d be sent to a real school, and was given the choice of where to study. Math, and how to count all the gold he was determined to earn in his life, seemed like the choice for him, so he signed up for Quandrix. A few words to describe your character: Precocious, mischievous, secret patron to an orphanage back home, jovial, shy at first Appearance: always mussed hair and equally ill kept clothing. Usul has a tattoo of a swirl on his right hand, for the god Liera, and one blue, one green eye. He often carries a pipe around ((pipe of smoke monsters if we can start with a common magical item for flavor, or just a normal pipe if not)) after learning how to blow puffs of smoke from a orc friend of his.
Reason for wanting to join College: Aelyn grew up at the Silversong Tavern on the edge of a forest known to be a gateway to the Feywild. Even as a young boy he had a strong connection to the fey visiting the forest and quickly found that he had a talent for the arts of word and song, learning from not only the fey but the bards that visited the tavern. As he grew older he decided to travel the world and fate eventually brought him to the doorsteps of Strixhaven where he found a new home in the Silverquill College, now eager to entertain his friends and to show the world that the pen actually is mightier than the sword. He is not quite as studious as many of the other students, but he is very whimsical and certainly has a talent for getting himself into trouble and, mostly, talking himself out of it again.
A few words to describe your character: Carefree, curious, optimistic, mischievous but absolutely charming.
Appearance: Shoulder length black hair, light-skinned, green eyes and favoring green attires.
Class: Barbarian, immediately multiclassing Bard; subclasses undecided, probably Ancestral Gurdian (though his spirit ancestors will probably be as disdainful as his living relatives) and either Lore or Spirits? Will see what makes sense in the roleplay.
College to Join: Silverquill
Reason for wanting to join College:
Canon has always been a huge disappointment to his family.
Wild parties, drunken brawls, mind-altering substances, gambling and property damage; Canon took part in none of these good and decent pastimes for a child of the Battleblood clan. Oh, sure, if he could be dragged away from his — 'books', were they called? — to do his combat training, he knew which end of the axe to swing, but he could never work up a proper bloodlust, and everyone could tell his heart wasn't in it.
The only thing that seemed to really excite him was the strange noises he would make by plucking at bits of stretched sinew, or knocking bits of bone together. So when a traveling adventurer said this was something called ‘music’ and that it could be powerful and even be used in battle, the clan was more than happy to send him off to school — along with a sizable sack of loot to ensure that any trials required for admittance were successful.
A few words to describe your character: nerdy; strong; loves music; very bad at music; like, really bad; naïve and oblivious
Appearance: at first glance, Canon looks like he belongs fronting a death metal band; at second glance you’d see that he’s hunched in a corner with his head buried in a book
In light of so many great applications, I have decided to create a second group of five that will be going through their own Strixhaven adventure. So, I have sent messages out to those of you that were accepted into either group.
For those of you who did not make the final groups, thank you for your applications and know that I will be keeping you on a wait list in the event that someone from one the main groups have to give up their slot and we are in need of a replacement.
For those of you that made it, thank you for applying and I look forward to the adventures!

Character Name: Jedavii Fairblossom
Race/Lineage: Githyanki
Age: 21
Class: Paladin (Order of Watchers)
College to Join: Quandrix
Appearance:

Character Name: Aithne Dresar
Race/Lineage: Aasimar
Age: 25
Class: Sorcerer (Shadow Magic)
College to Join: Lorehold
Harkarian Drim (Hark)
Character Name: Arvol Flintwind
Race/Lineage: Human (variant)
Age: 18
Class: Rogue (Future subclass: Arcane Trickster)
College to Join: Lorehold

Character Name: Usul Harj
Race/Lineage: Forest Gnome
Age: 17
Class: Rogue (Arcane Trickster at 3)
College to Join: Quandrix
Reason for wanting to join College: Usul has been on his own for a few years now already.
A few words to describe your character: Precocious, mischievous, secret patron to an orphanage back home, jovial, shy at first
Appearance: always mussed hair and equally ill kept clothing.
PbP 🎲: Tyekanik; Moneo Noree; Korba Muris; & occasional DM:
Character Name: Aelyn Silversong
Race/Lineage: Human (variant, fey heritage)
Age: 19
Class: Bard (College of Glamour)
College to Join: Silverquill
Character Name: Canon
Race/Lineage: Goliath
Age: 19
Character Name: Rebum Khassein
Race/Lineage: Variant Human
Age: 20
Class: Fighter/Warlock Hexblade
College to Join: Witherbloom
Reason for wanting to join College: Rebum has an interest in the life sciences especially chemistry.
A few words to describe your character: Rebum is a calm, cool and collected young man. Some regard him as fearless and competitive.
Appearance: Rebum has a tall and muscular build with pale skin, bright green eyes and long silver hair
