A tall elf in grey clothes, recognizable as a Shadar-kai from his matching gray-scale skin and dark hair. A silver pendent shaped like a raven is the only decoration to his outfit, which is otherwise purely functional. He walks into the tavern, and sits at a table.
If anybody comes up to him, he says, in a very emotionless voice (like siri), "I am going to enter the forest. If you wish to come with me, you may."

A tall and rather thin young man with shoulder length brown hair, dark brown eyes, a faint hint of the start of a moustache and a thin but we'll groomed beard enters the tavern with a somewhat curious expression on his face. He is wearing a black overcoat with a white lining over his chain mail armor, boots, a grey hat with what looks to be a red belt on it, a signet ring on his right hand and a pack on his back. He stays relatively quiet as he walks towards a relatively empty table, stopping when he heard the Shadar-kai speak.
"You're going to be heading out into the forest? I just arrived here but if you would have me then I would be happy to accompany you."
The elf nods at you, "I will travel through the forest with you. Shall we recruit another adventurer, or enter the forest?"
*Zavier is a healer, but I find it useful to have two healers, so if one goes down, they can be revived by the other. Other than that, I think we're good.*

A Tall Silver Dragonborn walks into the Hero's Haven Tavern and says, "I'm Balasar an acolyte of life. I come to share my gifts to those who may require them."
Balasar moves further into the inn and looks upon its patrons. "I am looking for work that pays a fair wage for one as I. Master Ko-Chi has often said, "Find those who are in need of help and show them you will help them."
Balasar grabs a seat by himself or if one is offered by another.
Whistler finally returned from the forest to town. He had gotten a little more loot, but a lot more experience. After paying for a room at the tavern, he set out to find a quiet spot to train by himself.
Meanwhile...
(( Locke's intro to the Forest of Wonders:
"Yes," agreed Locke simply as he stood back into a casual posture. He'd been demonstrating some of the monk techniques he'd been learning–evidence that he had indeed been training his body and preparing it for his patron's power.
"Well, then you are almost ready. After an outing here in the Forest of Wonders, you should be able to demonstrate your Shadow skills. After that, I will bestow the primary benefit of my patronage, as agreed." The shadowy figure could not be seen clearly–in this dream realm, his usual means of communicating with the merchant, he always appeared shrouded in a dark mist. One could just make out an outline of a tall, imposing figure--the master's presence alone would alert anyone else in the dream that someone of great power was there. But the face of Handel Morgan, the Ever-living, always remained concealed.
Locke already knew what spells and abilities he'd have access to right away; that had been discussed and the details documented in his contract. He also knew the obligations he'd be taking on in exchange. Being combat-ready was one of the more obvious for a warlock. His demonstration done, for now the merchant remained silent–he knew his patron hadn't finished.
"There will be more that Master Bramblefoot will teach you that should complement my power. Even after I have confirmed you, you should remain in his tutelage a bit longer." There was a brief pause, and from the tone shift Locke could only imagine that his master was smiling. "Once you've learned all you need from him, combined with what I will provide, you will be a force to be reckoned with!"
The reply was terse: "Of course." Locke was a surprising candidate for warlock-ship. He was quite independent, normally preferring to rely on himself to achieve his goals. And he chafed at the prospect of being bound to a master, despite having worked out a suitable contract that would give him what he wanted. Being brief, limiting even his communication to only what was contractually obligated, was his way of minimizing his servile activity.
The lich didn't seem to care. If anything, he seemed to take a bit of pleasure in Locke's slight discomfort with his obligations. "Choose your companions for this outing carefully. Besides partnering with the fast and strong, you still have other areas in which you lack; let your compatriots cover those while you do your part."
With that, the shadowy figure faded from view, and within seconds, Locke awoke. Straight to the point, and then done–the merchant was a bit surprised, but not at all disappointed.
Crawling off of his bedroll, Locke groomed himself, dressed himself in his niceties, then set out towards the city just in view. He had decided to camp outside to save on coin–somewhat risky at this level of training, but it had turned out alright. "Soon, I'll have no issue affording to sleep in comfort," he thought. A smile on his face, he made for the adventurer's tavern.
))
Into the tavern strode the warlock. Locke adjusted his clothing, smoothing out a wrinkle as he looked around. He'd had a good night's sleep, and was ready and eager to find suitable partners to join with. The place seemed empty for the moment, except for the dragonborn--silver, it seemed?--sitting by himself. The merchant walked up to the bar and ordered an ale, then made his way to the other adventurer's table.
Always one to try to present himself with an aura of professionalism, he turned to the dragonborn and nodded. "Hello! Would you mind if I joined your table?"
Balasar motions to the seat, "Please join me. I've been looking for some work here, but it seems slow for the moment. My names is Balasar and who might you be?"
"Please join me. I've been looking for some work here, but it seems slow for the moment. My names is Balasar and who might you be?"
"My name is Locke," replied the merchant with a smile. He took the seat and set his ale down, appraising the dragonborn as he did. "I'm suppose we're both here for the same reason--to find a party to venture into the forest with. If we are to do that, I suppose we should know a bit about each other, yes?"
Locke leaned back as his voice took on a practiced tone, almost like a sales pitch. "I am a merchant by trade, a jeweler, but don't let that fool you. I've had adequate training in hand-to-hand combat, and have reached a level where I can use a bit of magic to increase my stealth." He shrugged, and smiled self-deprecatingly. "It's not much, but it's surprisingly useful. I can hold my own in a fight."
His pitch made, the merchant sipped his ale then looked back at the dragonborn. "And what about you, Balasar? What talents do you bring to the table?"

"A merchant you say. A jeweler. Most interesting indeed. It takes many in the world. I am a monk and cleric for the temple of life. My master has sent me out into the world to offer aid and to learn of it's many wonders."

"A merchant you say. A jeweler. Most interesting indeed. It takes many in the world. I am a monk and cleric for the temple of life. My master has sent me out into the world to offer aid and to learn of it's many wonders."
Locke raised an eyebrow. A fellow monk? AND a cleric? It seemed an odd combo, but then, he was both a monk and a warlock (almost) so the merchant supposed it wasn't so odd. He quietly listened as the dragonborn continued.
"It seems a bit slow these days. It has been interesting watching some of the stragglers come through making their way about. It seems a multitude of races frequent here and make use of the gathering place. Hopefully it picks up soon."
The merchant smiled reassuringly. "I'm sure it will," he stated confidently, although it was really more of an assertion rather than a statement of knowledge.
"Are you like me then, fairly early in your training? I don't suppose you've been taught the specialized discipline of your monastery or your temple yet?"
(( Locke's basically asking if you've chosen a subclass yet. ))
Locke nodded understandingly, hiding his slight disappointment. He had hoped to join with others stronger than him, but he reminded himself that more experienced warriors would likely have no need of his company. "Besides, clerical healing would actually be quite useful," he thought.
He decided to press a bit for more information. "So what sort of cleric are you?" He then quickly smiled, shook his head and waved his hand. "Not what god you serve... no offense, but I don't even know half of them. Never had much use for them, myself. What I mean is, what domain do you follow?"
Balasar replies, "Ahhhh...A good question. I'm going to focus on the Life (healing) domain and War domain might be an option. I think that domain will help in todays troubled times and especially if healers are in short supply for the sick and wounded adventurers. While there is other ways to manage health while adventuring having a utility healer along can help the group. My master always taught me to learn to heal the wounded and sick. I actually haven't necessarily chosen my domain yet but It's the main one I'm looking at. I like a few of the other ones too."
"Not much to tell, really. I left home young to open a jewelry shop in Cruxhaven--I had no interested in locksmithing with the rest of the family. Unfortunately, that venture... folded." The merchant unconsciously fidgeted a bit; he was somewhat uncomfortable with admitting to his failure.
"I learned a lot in the process, though. I'll give it a shot again, but first I want to build up a nice cushion of coin to help ensure my success. Adventuring seemed like a good way to do that--after I had trained enough to not get myself killed, at least."
"So, to the monastery I went! Took a couple years of hard work, of course, but fortunately I'm fairly athletic, despite my lack of stature. Eventually I even learned the shadow arts, which seem more my style." Locke paused a moment--he hadn't planned on telling anyone about his ties as a warlock, but he still hadn't come up with a smooth transition that skipped that part in his story. Clearing his throat, he continued, "And so, I made my way here to test myself. And to gain some more experience. I'll need it if I'm going to go after the kind of loot I need."
He smiled at the dragonborn again, and finished in a light-hearted manner: "I admit, my motives may not be as noble as yours... but someone has to run the businesses of the world, right?"
