Felix will look around with his Darkvision, ready to strike at any threats. 19
With the added knowledge that there had been someone there, Felix felt determined to find any proof possible that they were alone. After peering into the darkness he saw nobody moving about but could see that the flatland was indeed much bumpier than when they had wrecked to their campsite.
Felix saw the ground, indicating that someone had indeed been there. He knew that none of them had been this way before. And this was probably recent, too. He couldn't see anyone in the darkness, which made things difficult. Still, he had one trick up his sleeve. He didn't use it very often, but it came in handy from time to time. Such as now.
Touching his left hand to his sword, he imbued it with Light from his celestial legacy, allowing the sword to glow a bright yellow light that lit the area around him by 20 feet, and another dim 20 feet after, before holding it above him like a torch. Hopefully, this would help them catch whoever was out here.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As the sword began to glow, the primal light cut the dark curtain of the night. Shining beams stretched their reach out and visibility began to improve for all involved.
Upon closer inspection the grass colored bumps became camouflage tarpaulins. A lot of tarpaulin. Sariel did a quick count and there were at least thirty grooves where there should be grassland. They were effectively surrounded.
Everyone glances around the field. By their count there were thirty six bandits surrounding the party. They were grouped into eight teams of four. The bandits themselves were ill equipped and malnourished. They looked like desperate men driven to the limits of their wills. Everyone relaxed as it was clear they were in no condition to fight but they did not lower their guards.

Suddenly the group heard Thastrem call from behind. “Everyone look...” he was cut short.
Yeah, we know... Sariel will look behind her at Thastrem and will get up and glance at all the bodies surrendering them. We don't want a fight. She will say to the one who looks like he/she may be the leader
Sariel turns to look at Thastrem only to see Jack Jingly holding Thastrem at knife point. “That’s quite enough my dears. Please don’t take this personally, we don’t want to fight you.”
“Look around you lad.” He said gesturing to the bandits. “We’ve been driven to desperation. We need food. So hand over the wagon,” he said while driving the knife closer to Thastrem. “Or this one gets a new breathing hole.” Thastrem was surprised by the turn. But even as the knife drew blood as it pricked his skin, ever so slightly, he remained still as a stone. As the others contemplated their next move, Thastrem spoke to Jack Jingly. “What’s your plan exactly Jack?” He said in a wavering but firm tone. “We need supplies before the winter hits.” He said after a deep sigh. “We can’t go south in time before the snows hit. Not with our numbers. Even if we could there’s a bounty on our heads from Velen to Baldu’rs gate. By now it’ll have spread to Waterdeep. We don’t have the means to keep fighting, and some would rather die in freedom than in prison. Sorry lad, but its do or die for us.” Jack Jingly raised his voice to the party. “Choose wisely my dears! Or can you have your friends death on your conscience?”

(Basically, I used the Light cantrip.)

The party gazed out into the lit field and sees that the grassland is covered with grass colored bumps.
With the light that Felix provided Sariel will take another gaze around.

This isn't good...
Sariel will quietly tell the party what she sees

In her panic, Sariel trips and drops down the hill (take 1 damage). The tarpaulin all spring up to reveal a burly bandit under each one.
