I was actually thinking something more along the lines of the map case Caradoc found and subsequently dropped, which everyone else seems to have forgotten about...
Caradoc grins at Frixori. "I'll try! Mom and Dad used to say the same thing..."
He gets up and hears Morgan ask about clues. "Do you think this is important? Do you think Gundren dropped it? Maybe I should hold on to it and give it back to him when we find him." He picks up the scroll case and shows it to the others.
"Do you think we could hide the wagon in the woods, Baryeras? Maybe chop some branches to cover it up a little?"

“I agree with you that in the darkness lurks dangerous foes, beign the goblins one of the weakest, even with their cunning and numbers, but our resolve shouldn’t flayyer as we have chosen to walk into that darkness and face them in order to keep safe wich is dear to us. And in that dangerous journey Lathander will help us. Don’t misunderstand me my friend, of course I an afraid of another ambush by the goblins, or by their arrows and rusty swords. But I will not let that fear tske the besst of me and let a friend in need at their hands.” He points to the dead horses “Now back to more practical matters, we can’t be sure if they were able to escape or if they were captured or killed. We don’t even know if there are more goblins. But I am going to discover it.”
And after looking at Morgan making sure she is ok he walks down the trial discovered and goes in search of them, looking around for more ambushes or clues,
“That’s why I assumed that you will stay here and take care of him. Leave that “he adds pointing to the horses canvass “ until we return so we can help you if you want. We want to move before sunsdown don’t we?” He adds looking at Baryeras
"The dwarf does make a good point,"Frixoir says. "I'm sure Gundren would prefer having his life over this stuff, I suppose." She unties a hempen rope from her pack and offers it to Morgan.
"What if we take the harness off of the wagon and take it with us? That way, no one can just come along and pull it away. I mean, those goblins aren't any bigger than me... they're not coming back and dragging a big ol' wagon anywhere. I just don't like the idea of anyone being left alone out here." Caradoc tugs his rope off of his pack as well. He takes out one of his daggers and makes a small incision in the skin between the canon bone and tendon of the pony's rear leg. Running the end of the rope through the incision, he ties it off neatly and leaves the rest of the rope for attaching to Hrogar's harness.
"What? It's how the butcher did it in our village!"

As the team makes a group effort, using the very large Hrogar to help shift the massive weight of the dead horse and pony, they are able to use their ropes to drag the dead creatures off the road. After about 30 minutes of work and the sun still relatively directly over them, those familiar with nature and this time of year guess they have about 5 hours of sunlight before evening, but with the mountain to the west, they will lose “good light” in about 4.
Cyrnair is to focused on moving the horses and thinking about which direction Lathander is leading him to really get a grasp of any additional information in the area.
(OOC: to be honest... I forgot about the disengage hide feature of goblins lol. Chalk it up to not being expierenced with PBP. I usually have a bunch of printed materials in the home game, so it’s hard to be mobile and remember all of it. Hopefully you are enjoying it despite my mistakes lol)
"We better hurry. Hope we have enought light to see if there are more clues along that trek." he then returns to Morgan "Remember if we haven't come back by sunrise, continue to the city. And please be careful. If we fall maybe they come to you." he smiles to her, pats Hrogar head saying to him "take care of her do you hear me?" and start walking the trek to the north.
Caradoc glances back and forth between the big people. Now two of them were staying behind...
"How do you think we're going to get paid if the goblins kill Gundren? Everything in that wagon is worthless to us if Gundren dies! Plus come on... it's Gundren and Sildar!"
Seeing Cyrnair march northwards, the halfling coils up his rope, slings his pack over his shoulder, and follows him. You can hear Caradoc muttering under his breath. "They've always been good to me... can't just ignore them..." He looks back over his shoulder once at Morgan, then rushes to catch up with the paladin.

"The decision is yours," Frixori says to those choosing to stay behind. Adjusting the hood of her cape, she begins her way up the small path behind the others.

Caradoc catches up to the paladin and tugs on his arm. "Hey - are you sure you want to go first? No offense, but you're not the quietest person I've ever met. I can be really sneaky when I need to be." With that, he tiptoes ahead, alert for danger with his shortbow in hand.

Also, DM, could we count the time spent clearing the road as a short rest?
Also, now I think the marching order down the train is: Caradoc - Cyrnair - Frixori - Gelin

When the halfling speaks to Morgan the aasimar puts a hand in his shoulder.
"But she is right also Caradoc. Someone must stay behind and take care of Hogarh and the goods. We maybe don't find anything and Gundren could escape the ambush and is now waiting in Phaladin. It's too dangerous for her to stay out here alone, as for any of us. A well aimed arrow could be the demise of even the greatest heroes. That's why Baryeras stay with her. We are a team now my dear halfling and we take care of others and put our strenghts together for a greater goal. " he nods to both Morgan and Baryeras.
"You are right Caradoc. Just be cautious and if danger lingers ahead come back and together we'll face it!."
He tries to move as quietly as possible, and keep an eye open for trouble. If this path was indeed used by goblins they could have set up an ambush in another point, or sentinels.
Morgan feels undecided as the conversation progresses. As much as she doesn't want to leave Hrogar alone out on the road, she also doesn't want to see her new companions, some of whom she's even starting to grow fond of, venturing into danger ill-prepared and undermanned.
When Baryeras indicates his intention to continue on to the village, she approaches him quietly.
*Ranger Baryeras,* she projects to him, *I agree with your reasoning about not pursuing goblins into the darkness of night or caves, but I'm also concerned for the safety of our patron and that of our companions.* She looks worriedly after the retreating forms of the others, before turning back to the ranger. *I know we don't know each other well yet, but if you're adamant about continuing on to the Phalandin, would you possibly be willing to go alone and take Hrogar with you? That way I'd know Hrogar is in good hands and I can go to assist the others. My magics aren't all that strong, but I know some of them could prove useful, especially if we DO end up carrying on after dark.*

“Do not fear the darkness my good Baryeras, for the light of the Dawnfather will be with us” tries to reassure the paladin to the ranger.

Carodoc holds the scroll case in his hand and opens the lid to find it empty. Upon closer examination, it looks more like a map case.

*Cyrnair, we really should at least clear the road first. And I'm not leaving Hrogar out here unattended.*
Even as she sends her telepathic message to Cyrnair, Morgan is unhitching Hrogar from the wagon. She calls aloud to the group as a whole.
"Does anyone have some spare rope? I'm fairly sure we can use Hrogar to at least pull the other horses off of the road."
“That’s why I assumed that you will stay here and take care of him. Leave that “ he adds pointing to the horses canvass “ until we return so we can help you if you want. We want to move before sunsdown don’t we?” He adds looking at Baryeras
