Here are a few aspects to my character I didn't mention in his backstory. I just thought i should add them before we start.
First: I'm having trouble adding an image of my character sheet. If i need to add them later, i can type them into the chat as needed.
Character aspects:
Doesn't carry many personal items, he only takes what he needs, a small amount of money, traveling gear, ect. He doesn't carry any physical weapons because he doesn't need too.
He is used to traveling on horseback, and has a horse of his own (Fane). He would consider Fane to be his closest companion. Fane is a dark, dun colored stallion.
Akyan has lived on the road his entire life, has a history with horses (makes traveling easier) and knows a good deal about them. He’s had a good number of horses in through his life, he is an elf after all, he’s had Fane for about 10 years.
He’s made his way in the world through thievery and an occasional bounty. There are cities where he would be recognized. Some for good reasons and others...not so much.
Appearance:
Charcoal skin, dusty light grey hair, piercing silver eyes
He typically wears a flat brimmed cowboy hat, a high collared trench coat, riding pants, and boots. (basically picture a gunslinger minus the guns)
Here is a more fleshed out backstory:
After Elran’s (Akyan’s brother) death, Akyan began drifting away from thievery and other petty crimes. He became a hired assassin or bounty hunter, or would take on jobs that involved stealing personal information or family heirlooms. He would travel from town to town, city to city, to find these jobs.
Note: (Akyan did not grow up among other drow. Because of this, he did not undergo the combat training that most drow go through. Elran was trained by other drow and did start training Akyan. As a result, Akyan is skilled with a blade, more skilled than the average person, but definitely not the most skilled. While Elran taught Akyan how to wield a blade, he did not teach him about drow magic. This was likely because most people are suspicious of magic and Elran didn’t want to attract unwanted attention.
Elran also affected Akyan’s view of life and how to treat others. Elran always repaid depts and acts of kindness, oftentimes with greater kindness, no matter how long it took him to do so. This part of Elran has stuck with Akyan, even if it is a bit twisted.
Elran didn’t speak of their parents much he often avoided the subject. This lead to Akyan believing that they were abandoned by their family, when in reality, it was Elran who left, taking Akyan with him to escape their abusive family.)
Elran had always been his conscious. Since he is gone, there was no one to keep Akyan walking in the right direction. Akyan never really thought about who he worked for, or questioned the motives of who hired him. Most of them wanted revenge and that was something he understood. However, eventually he started to realize that, at times, he was hurting people who didn’t deserve to be hurt.
After realizing this he reverted to his old way of living, stealing what he needed to survive. He kept on this way for a few years. Unfortunately, many towns had learned his face.
One night, he decided to sleep in a stable loft. This was something he had done when he was younger, and kept on doing, in order to get out of the weather and not have to stay in an inn. However, this time a villager had seen him go in and alerted the guards. Soon after the guards burst into the stable to arrest him. After this, an old man ran into the stable demanding to know what all the ruckus was about. The guards tried to explain, but the man denied them claiming Akyan was his stable hand.
Later Akyan learned that the man, whose name was Teff, was a retired horse soldier, who ran a large horse training/breeding/selling business. He made most of his money by capturing and training the wild horses that lived in the mountains outside the city. These horses were widely sought after for war horses.
In order to repay Teff, Akyan took on the role of stable hand. He spent about ten years living with him. In this time he learned all he knows about horses. This is where he got his first horse. Teff also gave him rights to choose a horse out of any round up whenever he needs a new mount.
Teff also had a son named Simon. Simon never protested against Akyan staying with them, but he made it clear, (to Akyan at least) that he didn’t like him. Akyan eventually found out that the reason Simon didn’t like him, was partly because he new he was a criminal, partly because he is a drow, but mostly because he didn’t like sharing the ranch with a stranger.
Akyan only left Teff’s ranch after Teff died. By that time Simon had been married, and started taking control of the ranch. A few days after Teff died, Simon told Akyan to leave saying, “Having a dark elf around is bad for business.”
Simon does still uphold his father’s decision to let Akyan choose a horse every so often. Although it’s mostly because he knows if he doesn’t, Akyan will just steal them anyway.
After leaving Teff’s ranch, Akyan began taking on similar jobs as before. However, he was a lot more careful about who he took jobs from.
On these jobs he sometimes traveled with a companion of two. However, he’s never had any kind of lasting relationship with anyone until he met Sheerow.
While wary of her at first, he eventually started to appreciate her company and consider her a friend. They have known each other for around two years now. While he try’s to keep her out of his more shady jobs, she accompanies him on most his adventures.
Timeline:
Akyan was 20 when his brother died. He was a bounty hunter for about 15 years before he took up thieving again for maybe 5 years. He worked for Teff for around 10 years. He’s basically been a mercenary since. He’s around 80 years old at the present. Yes, he is very young for an elf.
I'm super excited for this

Thanks! Sounds good!
Oh I should probably put in some information on my character! Thanks for the unintentional reminder, Rynn_Elocin!
Name: Sheerow (she/her pronouns)
Race: Fairy
Class: Artificer
Backstory: She was kidnapped as a baby (along with 15--20 other fairies, tabaxi, and Aarakocra children) by a racist cult called "The Church of the Lasts", and she was forcibly put into slavery under them. She was heavily mistreated, and then told that it was the god's "divine will" that she (and the others that were kidnapped) were to be mistreated this way because of their race. She was a slave until she was about 14, when there was a raiding party to find the most recent round of baby kidnappings. She was put into a foster program, but didn't stay there long; she was soon adopted by a kindly Tabaxi tinker merchant called Elro. Until she was around 40 years old, Elro taught her how to tinker, and she taught her how to heal from the years she spent as a slave. Now, she's set out to see the world, adventuring with her best friend, Akayan. When she's not out adventuring, she runs a small traveling shop (with the main shop in a cluster of lily of the valley plants deep in the forest, near other fairies), where she continues Elro's tinker and repair work.
Appearance: Very pale, pasty skin (almost paper white), with a few dark freckles. Her hair is a silvery white, with light blue tips. Wings are like that of a bird's, that are the same baby-blue shade at the tip of the hair. She has big, light red eyes. She wears a dark green tunic with many straps and belts slung across her body filled with tools, materials for tinkering, and magic objects. A mechanical switchblade dagger shaped like the tip of a lily of the valley flower stem is always pinned to her breast, and the tip is always coated in a solution of the same cardenolides found in the lily of the valley. The dagger, however, has never been used, and is saved only for situations where death at the hands of a living being is almost certain.
Character Aspects/Origins:
She lives deep in the forest (I'm assuming there are forests in this world), in a cluster of lily of the valley plants. Because their home is next to such poisonous plants, they have extensive knowledge on poisonous and medicinal plants.
Edit: dagger is now a homebrew blowgun
This is gonna be so awesome!! Who's the other player we're waiting on?

Amon, a Fairy Arcane Trickster---ShieldHero_'s Fractum

Tez005, that’s great. Yes, there are forests. The Darkness hasn’t touched that yet. We’re waiting on BobtheBrutishBobman, so I’ll wait a few days to see if he’ll join or else he can join on the road (Monday at the latest). Also, I’ll give you your guide to the world of Ver D’nor.
Name: Aaron Firehand
Race: Appears to be human
Class: Also appears to be part of every class
Backstory: Claims to have dabbled in every major and minor events in history. There is evidence to back this up, but for this to happen, he’d have to be 44,000,000,000 years old. Which he never comments on his age.
Appearance: Appears like John Constantine (if you know who that is): trench coat, white button up shirt, red tie, blue jeans, and slick black shoes. Sometimes wears a tan fedora. Will chew on things for hours on a time, sometimes reading books in different languages.
Origins: As stated above, he non-intentionally claims to be 44,000,000,000 years old. His greatest pride and joy is that he claims to have summoned the Light that keeps most of the Darkness at bay.

You arrive in the town of New Mibeji, which is well known for its magic towers that are claimed to hold sentient crystals that attempt to keep evil out of their city. However, you have heard rumors of evil in this city.

(I’m assuming Sheerow and Akyan are traveling together? Were they sent here by the leaders?)
Akyan looks around, then turns to Sheerow, “We should make our way to a tavern. If we want to learn about rumors, taverns are the best place to start.”
Sound good
"I agree, taverns sure are notorious for rumor-mongering." She scratches her head. "But, isn't it weird that a city famous for its... evil fighting technology, if you could call it that, would have evil in the first place?" She looks around, trying to see if there are any taverns nearby, or even a public space where people are gathered.

“No doubt it is,” he answers. “But with rumors of evil entering this place, there are bound to be rumors about how it got here. I’m hoping we can gather information about what this evil is and what may be wrong with these... crystals.”
