"I don't think they've left. I'll tell them to hide and have them tell me where they do. Then I will relay it back to you."Akyan answers before telling Tamryn, "I don't think you two will be able to get out of there. You'd better hide. Give me a general description of where you are hiding so I can let Kyrsa know where you are and hopefully keep the clerk from seeing you."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Tymothy arches an eyebrow at Akyan's words, and the half-opened door. "I'll just take a look around for myself, if you please,"he says, gruffly, opening the door and entering the room. Seeing the bookcase moved aside and the secret door beyond standing open, he strokes his mustache and gets a thoughtful look.
"He is 'destroying documents', you say? Which documents, and why would he do that? I hope you have not encouraged him to hide evidence of crimes committed."
In the hall, the clerk and Kyrsa have reached the door, which they find unlocked. Mrs Beaufort frowns and turns the handle opening it.
Lyndaran is currently hiding under the desk and bot-Tamryn is behind the door that just opened. Neither is immediately visible, but Tamryn will need to move stealthily after the clerk goes to the lock box to avoid detection when she turns around. (Lyndaran make stealth (hiding) roll. bot-Tamryn Stealth 14)
(I think by "libraries" you mean bookcases or bookshelves, am I correct? You could have climbed on top of a bookcase, but I put you under the desk as it seemed more hidden to me. If you insist on playing spider-man though, I will reposition you).
Mina looks to the sheriff and back to Jhaartael and Akyan with enlarged eyes. "Um, it's the sheriff. Sir, of course we aren't doing anything illegal, we're just here to make a deal. Trying to prosper both this town and ours back home."
Lyndaran holds very, very still under the desk, and the clerk does not notice him as she goes to the lockbox, unlocks it, and retrieves the attache for Kyrsa. While her back is turned, bot-Tamryn slips out the open door, and heads back to the gameroom. Wordlessly, Mrs. Beaufort hands the files to the elven warrior, closes and locks the strongbox, and then the two of them exit the room. The clerk carefully locks the door behind her, and proceeds back towards the gameroom herself.
At the sheriff's inquiry, Jhaartael raises an eyebrow, then says, "Sheriff, we are doing nothing illegal, but rather are attempting to prevent a crime. When discussing the beneficial prospects of running an ethical business, Master Donegall considered it advantageous to start on 'a fresh ledger', as they say, and ensure that not even the temptation to abuse information obtained remained to him. I see it as a most promising sign. I think it is far better for one to remove the temptation to crime themselves than to have someone steal it from them ... wouldn't you agree?"
Akyan remains next to the door. He is a bit confused as to why the sheriff didn't seem to understand what he meant. (As he was not privy to all of the information that Kyrsa and Jhaartael were) He had assumed that the Sheriff knew the true reason that they were at this party, why would the circle of light sent them to help someone without letting that individual know he was being helped? If they did get rid of the documents and the Sheriff wasn't in on the plan, how would he know that he could no longer be blackmailed? Assuming he's missing something, Akyan refrains from saying anything as he doesn't want to contradict Jhaartael.
"Wonderful," He responds to Kyrsa, sarcastically, "The sheriff showed up and apparently he doesn't want Loris to destroy any documents. I thought Jhaartael said that the Sheriff wouldn't get in our way."
"What? ...He knows what we are trying to do... Wait, he is rather suspicious of us, be careful what you say to him and how you say it. If you give him any reason to doubt us he might decide to turn us in. You may want to specify that he is destroying documents used for blackmail...specifically the one's being used to blackmail him. Though, I'll let you decide if staying quiet would be the better option--I can't evaluate the situation from here." Kyrsa says to Akyan, growing slightly stressed. Why did she have to leave right before the sheriff showed up? "Do you know how much longer it is going to take them? I need to know whether or not I should cause some sort of delay." She glances at the clerk, wondering how the woman would react to walking in on Donegall burning paperwork.
Carefully Lyndaran gets out from below the desk and peeks out the room. When the clerk clears the hallway he carefully goes towards the game room to rejoin with the others. He tires to make it appear that he comes from the main hall. He silently walks towards Jhaartael and he remains behind the more noble elves.
"Well, hopefully I didn't just ruin this mission." Akyan answers, "I tried to make that clear to him, but apparently he didn't catch on. I don't know if delaying her, or just letting her come would be a better idea. Trying to delay her would might raise suspicion, but she'll defiantly be suspicious if she see's this open vault door. I'll leave it up to you."
Akyan is going to follow the Sheriff, unless the others try to stop him. He's going to hang back slightly, to try to make sure the sheriff doesn't know he's following.
Correal will chime in as the team starts to get 'nervous', "Our request seemed to work, it should hold as long as I maintain concentration for up to 8 hours... so no need for us to run after him 'Ki'. Let the sheriff and Loris return. We have done nothing wrong. It is further better for Loris to destroy the materials as an act of good faith even to the sheriff. He can then assure himself that he did the right thing, destroying such a thing rather than using it improperly. It is better and easier on all consciences. Let's just wait and see their return. I am confident we can resolve this amicably with all of our skills."
Mina watches with trepidation as the sheriff heads down and Akyan talks about following him stealthily. She isn't sure what to do at the moment, thinks about just joining the sheriff and is about to, until Jhaatael speaks up about waiting and seeing. It makes her nervous, "I'll wait Correal, but I'm nervous. One, he could supposedly do the destroying down there, and two, what if the sheriff rats us out?"
Akyan stops when Jhaartael addresses him. He crosses his arms. He doesn’t know how easy it is to break the charm, but Jhaartael seems unconcerned. “If your sure, then I’ll wait.” He walks back over to stand next to the door. “The clerk is coming back, I don’t know how she’s going to react to this.” He gestures to the stairs.
Jhaartael responds to Akyan's inquiry re the open door, "Her master opened the door and left us here. The sheriff followed him. We are here, simply waiting. She should have no concern as we are not doing anything untoward. Perhaps she will get us something more to drink... that wine did look good." and to Mina he will add, "Rats us out? What have we done? If anything, the fellow may find himself evidence of real crimes and the actual guilty party will be punished."
Tamryn, rather than heading back to the game room, attempted to hide himself out of line of sight at the end of the hallway. He was able to silently climb up to the ceiling with his hands on one wall and feet on the wall opposite. He is able to climb up and stay without making a sound, but just as Mrs. Beaufort is about to lick the door behind her, his foot slips and he falls flat on his face (Stealth roll was 21, Acrobatics was a nat 1). He gets up, holding his nose in one hand, and stumbles toward Kyrsa. He leans into her, as if holding himself up, then grabs her papers and sprints down the hall, shouting, “Finally!”

Tymothy points a finger at Mina while looking at Jhaartael. "Isn't she with you? Is she not 'in' on the whole mission thingy?" He frowns.
"I repeat, which documents is he destroying? Nevermind, I'll just go down and see for myself. None of you leave this room."
The sheriff passes through the secret door, and descends the stairs.

“The clerk and I are heading back to the game room. No incidents here. How are things on your end?” Kyrsa asks Akyan mentally.

(So, uh, Tamryn/Lorenzo asked for a retcon, which I'll let him explain. Is anyone following the sheriff and Loris down the stairs?)
((I had not intended to as Loris said he would bring the documents back - I presumed from this he was going to destroy them in front of us.))

Tamryn rushes down the hall (into the gameroom?).
Kyrsa and Mrs. Beaufort look at each other in surprise and alarm, and then shrug, and actually both of them get the giggles.
Tymothy's voice floats up the stairs from below: "Hey! I need one or two of you to come down here as witnesses!"
