"Playing in the shadows isn't always a bad thing." Akyan thinks to himself. However, he simply nods to Jhaartael's comment. He knows the high elf meant nothing by it, and he doesn't want to cause a problem, so he changes the subject. "I'm waiting for Tamryn to tell me what he and Lyndaran want as their rewards."
"What? Steal something! We aren't here to steal anything! The sheriff is just going to let you walk out with Donegall's belongings!" Kyrsa is shocked by Akyan's blunt response. I'd thought better of the sheriff... Perhaps he was pressured into it...The last thing I want to do is allow him to dirty his reputation by turning the blind eye to someone on my team swiping some choice items!
She gives Tamryn a hard look, "Come on now, hand it over before things get messy." She emphasizes the last two words, trying to infer that Tamryn needs to give it up before they make an even bigger scene.
(If it makes Kyrsa feel any differently, Donegall's riches were likely to be seized and sold to compensate his victims. Tymothy did mention earlier a reward for providing proof of crimes, he is giving you that reward from the seized assets. But I respect the RP, so proceed however you like.)
To Akyan, Tamryn says,”I’d love the cloak if possible.”
To Kyrsa, he says, “You’ll never catch me. Soon all your wealth will be mine! My revenge is complete!” and then he dashes out the doors to the garden and attempts to disappear into the shadows.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Akyan looks at Jhaartael, “It sounds like Lyndaran might be locked in the office. I’ll take these for the others, but we should probably go get him and get out of here. He picks up the cloak and grabs the bow for Lyndaran. Then he heads back up the stairs and to the office Setting the loot down in a pile next to him, he tries to pick the lock.
(Ah, I forgot about the reward. However, as far as Kyrsa knows, the only things Donegall has done wrong is blackmail Tymothy and be a bit of a jerk. She doesn't know what other kinds of crimes he's escaping punishment for through blackmailing Tymothy. She also doesn't know how much of his wealth has been earned through dirty deeds. That said, once she's been filled in concerning just how bad of a guy Donegall is, her opinions will quickly change.)
Kyrsa doesn't have time to respond to Akyan before Tamryn takes off into the guardian, "Why you insolent!!!" She shouts and runs after him. Just as she reaches the door, she turns to all those inside the dining room and says calmly, "No need to worry. I'll deal with this, carry on as you will." Then she turns and rushes after Tamryn, hoping that he is headed towards the teleportation circle.
"Alright, we'll deal with whatever this stealing business is later. Please make sure that Tamryn is heading back to the Teleportation Circle, and please give Tymothy my regards if we do not meet again. We were supposed to let him search us, but I might have to leave before then. I will come back if possible, I gave him my word after all. If he wants to meet us near the extraction point, and search us there, that should be fine."
Jhaartael , taking the pearl, calmly and gracefully ascends the stairs after Akyan. He proceeds from the back hall to the entrance hall. He presents himself to the Sheriff for inspection, then makes his farewells discretely, gathering any of the party who may be straggling along the way.
They make it to the transport point with the others.
"Alright, I'll let the sheriff know. Also, this Loris guy deserves to be stolen from. Remember that widow from earlier? Yeah, he had her husband murdered." Akyan replies to Kyrsa.
"Tamryn, you better be going to the teleportation circle."
Once Lyndaran is out of the office, Akyan hand him the bow, then will find the sheriff and tell him what Kyrsa told him. After allowing himself to be searched, and explaining that the extra items were for his two companions who already left. If the sheriff still wants to check Kyrsa, he will take him to the teleportation circle so he can do so.
The sheriff apologetically does a quick search of Jhaartael, Mina and Akyan, finding nothing of course. "I appreciate your understanding why I must do this," he says.
When searching Lyndaran, he discovers the stray dragonchess piece, which he holds up between finger and thumb and contemplates. "The Oliphant," says Tymothy, "my favorite piece."
He follows you back to the abandoned building, where you meet up with Kyrsa, and supposedly Tamryn. Tymothy looks around dubiously. "Why are you here? Do you guys go out of your way to look suspicious?'
Kyrsa laughs, "No sir. This is our extraction point, and we didn't want to miss our ride." She gives Tamryn a tired look, "We had a bit of excitement come our way, which is the only reason we came all the way out here before letting you search us. Please forgive us for that." She puts her arms out to her sides so that the sheriff can search her.
Once he is finished she salutes him, "It has been a pleasure sheriff Tymothy. I wish you fortune now that this...unfortunate situation has been resolved." Her mind flashes to what Akyan said about the widow...though she does not recall seeing a widow earlier. Not that it matters, facts are facts, and if Donegall had someone murdered he deserves whatever fate is coming for him. "I trust you to treat the people of this town rightly, and to deal with Donegall as he deserves. You are an honorable sheriff, and that is something to be proud of."
Tamryn smiles and bows, before letting the sheriff search him. “People love a show with dinner, right Mina?” The sheriff likely finds many interesting things on Tamryn, but none of them are Donegal’s.
Bidding a fond farewell to the sheriff, you all gather at the designated spot. You have enjoyed good food, a fancy party, and some intrigue, and the satisfaction of helping a good man, and causing a bad one to face justice.
It is now very early in the morning, hours before dawn. Looking forward to a good night's sleep back at the Farm, you feel the magic building around you, signaling that the teleport is imminent. In the same moment, however, you all suddenly hear in your minds the telepathic voice of Aldara. "This is a Code Red Alpha, repeat Code Red Alpha. All teams retreat to your safe houses immediately, abort all missions, get out of sight. NOW. This is not a drill. Do not, repeat DO NOT visit or return to the Fa..." and at that moment, the teleport initiates, and whisks you through the ether to the Farm.
------------------------------
As you materialize on the teleportation circle at the farm, all around you is chaos. You senses are assaulted with fire, smoke and ash. Several sites in the yard and on the walls are burning. Groups of people are running and yelling. Large, winged shapes circle above, and dive down breathing fire on fleeing humanoid figures. Pockets of defenders are alternately firing arrows and spells skyward, and rushing to extinguish flames.
Aldara is taking cover by the corner of a nearby building, Breezy close behind, when they see you materialize. "NO!" screams Aldara. "Breezy, get them OUT OF HERE! NOW!" And she nocks three arrows in rapid succession, letting them fly at one of the airborne shapes. The gnome turns to face you, stretches forth her hands, and shouts arcane words. A portal opens behind you, and she literally shoves you through it before you can even consider resisting. She remains behind, but as the portal closes, she says, "We will come for you, soon." The last image you see in the fire-lit darkness is a corpse that has been impaled, affixed in an upside-down crucifix to the log wall with several spears. The flesh is charred beyond recognition, but the robes are familiar to you. They are the same robes Brother Cephas was wearing yesterday morning.
------------------------
Stunned, you look at each other, and slowly notice your new surroundings. You are in a 40x40 room with stone floor and walls, a flickering hearth at the opposite end, and tapestries depicting woodland scenes on the walls. There are corridors leading off to your right and your left, lit with hanging lanterns containing candles. This room is furnished with several comfortable looking chairs, sofas and floor cushions, and a very large bearskin rug takes up the middle of the floor. There is no sign of the portal through which you just traveled. There are also six dwarves surrounding you, armed with axes and spears, looking upset about something, and staring at you.
Akyan stumbles slightly as he materializes in this new building. Blinking, he tries to clear his vision of the spots of light dancing before his eyes. Cursing his oversensitive eyes, he steadies himself. He doesn't know what to think. Everything had been going so well, and now the farm... the farm was destroyed. What in the blazes was happening? And brother Cephas... After blinking most of the dots out of his vision, he looks around the room, and notices the dwarves. Raising his hands, he manages to say, "Breezy sent us here."
(OOC: Yikes...this is bad. But I guess we were warned after all lol. Bad for our characters, but super epic. I'm loving this campaign.)
Kyrsa collapses to her knees, hands flat on the ground as she stares blindly. Her body shakes and sweat beads on her forehead, which is is farrowed. Images of what they just witnessed flash through her mind, mixing and mingling with her memories of the battlefield. No, no she has to stay strong. Oh, but gods, Cephas. He's dead, and the entire Farm is on fire! And...Aldara and Breezy are still back there!
"They will be fine...they are far better equipped than any of us to deal with this.... They can handle it...they have to."
She shakes her head, forcing herself to stand up and hoping that she didn't draw to much attention from everyone else. She remains trembling, just enough to be noticeable as she looks around and takes in her surroundings. Taking a breath she says to the dwarves, "Please, there is no need to be alarmed. We are unarmed, and seeking sanctuary. Do you know Breezy? She sent us here."
Tamryn takes a moment to orient himself, barely avoiding stumbling. Seeing the dwarves, he says, “You must be Team One! We are Team Two. While it is very nice to meet you, I’m afraid there isn’t time for proper introductions. You see, the Farm is under attack. You likely heard Aldara’s call to retreat to safehouses. As my companions have said, we have been sent here by Breezy, quite without our consent. While we aren’t the most powerful beings around, we can definitely contribute in a fight. So, my friends, my question to you is this: Shall we do the safe and smart thing and stay here where our superiors have sent us? Or should we return to the Farm and support our fellows in arms? This is a serious question. There is a chance we will be more distraction than help if we return. You are, of course, more experienced with direct combat than we, who are more of an infiltration team. What do you think we should do?” He then attempts, to the best of his ability, to accurately describe the scene they all saw at the Farm, encouraging the others to fill in gaps and make corrections.
After overcoming his initial shock, and Tamryn is finished talking, he says, "How would we get there in time? We don't even know where the Farm is Tamryn."

Your pre-arranged teleport back to the Farm is coming up soon, so you should probably wrap things up here and get to the extraction point soon.
