The third guard is overcome by a flurry of blows from the group. You notice a chest in the corner of the room, and another door on the opposite wall. Beyond the door is another curving corridor.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Remembering the berating from the last chest, Mina decides to ignore the one in the room and quietly opens the door on the opposite wall and starts her way down the next curved corridor. When she reaches the next door, she listens at it.
Akyan also ignores the chest. There's no way he's falling for the same thing again. Without wasting time, the still disguised drow stealthily heads after Mina.
Lyndaran, still disguised too, follows Akyan as stealthy as he can, but cannot help but touch the moustache his disguise has. He doesn't feel it but he cannot help it. How gross it would be to feel all that facial hair all day?
As Mina leads the others down the hallway which curves to the southeast, before you reach the doorway, you hear several blood-curdling screams come from the door at the end, which stands slightly ajar. Peering northward through the gap, you see a large, roughly semi-circular room, with another open door on the opposite side, and further east along the southern wall a closed exit. In the center of the room, the bodies of three guards are lying in pools of blood, their throats ripped out.
Jhaartael:
Just before the screams, you sense the Libram suddenly become more aware and interested. "There is something new here," it whispers in your mind, "Something... dangerous. It was not here in the demiplane until a moment ago."
As the party gathers at the open portal, you look around and discover that Tamryn has vanished, quite literally. He's just not there anymore, although none of you saw or heard him leave.
Jhaartael looks disturbed, even upset. "Wait.", he says as if thinking, or sensing, "Something or someone dangerous has entered the exercise's plane from without. Be wary."
"Tamryn?" Kyrsa says, worry seeping into her voice. "Wait... this can't be part of the exercise... can it?" She looks to where the guards are laying, her gaze wavering as she takes in the scene. There's no way this is part of the exercise... what would the reasoning behind this be? She turns to Jhaarteal, "Dangerous? Can you tell if this is something Breezy implemented? Or has something foreign entered the simulation?"
Without waiting for a response, she moves shakily over to one of the bodies, one sword drawn as she checks to see if the corpses are staged or if they are indeed dead. Wasn't Breezy's simulation supposed to ensure that no one died in spite of whatever injuries they incurred?
Akyan's jaw clenches when he sees the bodies. This is not right, this can't be part of the exercise. When Lyndaran points out that Tamryn has vanished, the drow spins around to double check. Gone. He turns back to the bodies just as Jhaartael speaks up. This is definitely not part of the exercise. It can't be. Right? This doesn't seem like something that Breezy would do. They would have had some sort of warning beforehand if there were potentially going to be other parties involved.
"I don't think this is part of the exercise, but there is only one way to find out." Akyan pushes through the doorway and makes his way towards the open door across from them. "Either way, we need to find the fake hostage. If he's still alive, then he'll either still be playing along, or he'll be able to help us out." Clearly on edge, he tries take in as much of the scene as possible while watching for potential traps as he walks.
The three corpses are all human, and all very dead. Blood is spattered about, but it appears the fight was very one-sided.
Other than a table and some chairs that have been toppled to the floor, the remainder of this room is empty. Beyond the north door, you hear shouting.
Jhaartael:
The presence in the wizard's mind continues: "My awareness is limited to this demiplane at the moment, I cannot tell you what may have happened outside. But a malevolence is near which I did not sense previously. A powerful entity. And your friend, the one they are asking about, is no longer anywhere I can sense."
If you all proceed through the northern door, you find a room that wraps around the core of the building. A door to a spiral stairwell leading up has been torn off its hinges.
Four more guards lie bleeding and one cries out in agony, not completely dead. A young elf, only 60 years or so, and his right arm is missing below the elbow.
