Gewyn moves in behind Muir. Getting hit by the smell, he crinkles his nose. "Not a pretty sight, that's for sure. Though all things considered, their bodies at least seem fairly intact. Their minds perhaps not so much."
Gewyn walks up to one of the yet-breathing prisoners and waves his hand before their face before inspecting their bindings.
Muir smiles nervously to Gewyn and watches him try to get one of the survivors attention. "Hello good people of Hokum. We are here..." He turns around to introduce everyone and notices only Gewyn followed him in "to save you. We have other survivors not far from here guarded by surviving guards of Hokum led by Iver himself!" Muir name drops hoping to give the townfolk hope. "We have a camp with the rest of the survivors. Please if you can get up and help those who cannot, we will have food and aid if you can follow."
One of the towns people close to Muir opens one eye and meekly croaks out one word, "wa-water!"
Looking closer at these people it seems that they have been tied up for some time, most look unable to walk, too weak to properly lift their heads, let alone their legs. A few slump toward the floor when untied, only to be lowered gently but Muir or Gewyn as they free the captives. From the looks of it, this may take longer than first anticipated.
Getting a closer look at the wounds, it appears that all of these townspeople have had a plethora of wounds inflicted upon them, some older and scarred over, some newer and weeping with viscose yellowing pus, it appears that each of these peoples energy has been used up simply letting blood and staving off infection. Leaving no energy for the possibility of escape or uprising.
Outside Neferox's ears perk up, and she looks south to the roof where Vin is located, before sprinting as fast as she can after Sam.
Muir gathers whatever bowls he can and starts casting shape water pulling water from any sources he can find to fill bowls, cups, or any other containers to give to the people. He tends to the wounds of the prisoners..."Hirsi come quickly and help tend to these people!"
Hirsi comes in and is initially shocked at the state of the people she sees, that is until she finds a large pot obviously left over from the ruined butchers shop, and she gets a determined look in her eye.
With Muir's help, Hirsi fills the pot with water and takes it outside, heating it with the bonfire that burns in the center of the market place. Bringing in the large pot of boiling water Hirsi casts Goodberry, producing ten juicy looking berries, "it's not much but we can stretch it out right?" She looks to Muir a little worried, but confident in her ability and Muir's help, She mushes the berries and boils them in the water, then scoops up some of the healing soup and begins feeding the townspeople, starting with those who are moving the least.
With boiling water on hand, Muir sets about sterilising some rags and tending to wounds, part of his druidic träning taking over somewhat, things begin taking a turn, the outlook of these towns people seeming a little more positive, and that's when everyone in the building hears it...
Sam unmistakably roaring with unbridled rage from across the market square and behind the few buildings to the south.
Muir smiles at Hirsi "You are doing a fine job. When we get back to Gore, I will be sure to report all of this. I am sure you will make a fine Master Druid in no time." Just as Muir finishes his sentence he hears Sam's roar. "Oh that can't be good. Hirsi I need you to bar these doors the best you can and do what you need to keep these people safe. I will tell Thunberg to aid you as best they can being a tree.....I will go check on the others. I fear they are being attacked. Gewyn maybe you could aid Hirsi unless you feel up to another fight?"
Muir heads outside in the direction the roar came from and tells Thunberg to aid Hirsi as much as they can to protect the survivors. He asks in which direction the roar came from and then heads in that direction.
Elthana, still in eyesight and earshot of Vin, turns back towards the kid, panic on her face.
“Vin! Quick, we need help! Sam and I are about to be overrun with more madcaps!!” Elthana points down to where Sam and his Lion are, then puts her hands together as if in prayer and as soon as she starts to nod, she disappears in a swirl of black smoke and shadows.
Vin shifts his attention towards Elthana and with her pointing out the distress he immediately begins to support his team. Having the high ground certainly helps as he moves along the rooftops to blast from above. This time making she he has enough distance from these things that can climb. He's not going to let them get in melee of him again. Not going to become a burden to the team. Using terrain and positioning he will get the best angle on the madcaps and start blasting while Nef rushes in to tear the creatures apart. They have to hold the line here while the others get the injured and weakened villagers to safety.
Vin with distance and range using his magic from afar will begin blasting the creatures with his magic.
Eldrich Blast 1: 27 Damage: 6
Eldrich Blast 2: 19 Damage: 7
Neferox will rush in to maul the creatures trying to get their focus shifted to her and away from Vin. If any madcaps begin looking up towards the young man she focuses her attacks on those ones. otherwise she rushes in to aid slaying them with Sam.
As Vin positions himself over the alley he sees whisps of fey magic disappearing and returning into the bag at Sam's waist, as Vin wastes no time in launching his volley of Eldritch force, his attacks strike an oddly rippling Madcap standing in front of Elthana, it's body explodes into a gelatinous mess on the floor before its remnants evaporate.
Neferox makes it around the corner, bounding into the alley with a ferocious growl, she hones in on one madcap which is feeling from a blow just dealt by Sam, and she rips its head from its body with a focussed precision.
Three Madcaps remain in the alley, now splitting up each moves toward one of the three standing below Vin. He watches on as the three sulphur stinking creatures slice and dice his friends and familiar with their dark curved blades

Back at the building, the prisoners are now freed and somewhat fed, gathering what little energy they can muster to begin the journey south. Hirsi and Thunberg Woad stand ready and vigilant, prepared to fight off the possibility of attack as they quietly listen to the distant sounds of fighting. Inside, a dirt clad, bearded man weakly speaks to Muir and Gewyn, "you have our thanks... Never thought we'd see the end of this, thought the darkness would come for us first... We had to watch as those we called family, friends, neighbours were bled out in front of us, some til they couldn't bleed no more" several of the prisoners break out into sobs, others merely stare off into nowhere, lost in the trauma of their ordeal, others look to Muir and Gewyn with caution, weighing up whether their saviours are what they seem, blooded clothes and signs of fighting. "You mentioned there's somewhere safe down town? What's left of it, the town? None of us have seen anything other than those creatures and the fire outside for... we don't know how long.. you lose track of the days and night when you spend long stints unconscious..." The speaker trails off in lost and lonely thought, though comes back to reality if his questions are answered.
Sam swings. His maul (you dirty birds!) Once, twice. He’s almost blinded with fury after haven taking a couple of heavy hits..,
Attack 1: To hit 26, Damage 28
Attack 2: To Hit 23, Damage 26
With the first hit Sam send his target 5’ closer to the next closest madcap (via Crusher feat) then moves up and hits him again (unless first blow kills, then he just moves right on to secondary target. If first target dies at all, Sam then moves to position to give Elthana flanking on her opponent.)
And finally, Sam takes a moment to catch his Second Wind with his bonus action. He recovers 8 hp…
The Madcap that Sam so viciously swings (his maul) at is pushed, and then squashed upon the second attack, losing form and evaporating like its other fallen brethren, losing no ground Sam positions himself well, in preparation for Elthana's attacks.
Elthana sees Vin from above and nods her thanks as he obliterates the madcap in front of her. As Sam takes position on the other side of the madcap by her, she attacks.
Attack: 14, Damage: 7
Attack: 23, Damage: 12
Attack: 23, Damage:10
If she does take him down, she flanks the one engaged with Nef.
Muir listens carefully but doesn't hear any more yelling or signs of trouble besides this peculiar squishing sound of something being smooshed into the ground...possibly by a maul. He shrugs and heads back inside to tend to the injured folks just in time to hear this

"Hello there sir. Could you tell me what you have seen them do with the bubbling blood and if anything has grown out of it? Yes the good news is we found survivors who were hiding. They are fed and doing better now. They are being protected by Iver and his guards. Once our teammates return from outside we will head there."
Elthana's hits all find their mark easily, though the Madcap stands strong against her, not letting Sam's presence behind it scare the creature, or perhaps it just has no survival instinct beyond kill and eat.
Back at the building as Muir inquires, he gets a practical response from the bearded man. "When they took our blood they'd collect it all together into those cauldrons and then keep it warm with the fire, others could see our the window better we used to keep everyone aware of what was happening as much as possible at the start. Some of those creatures spoke about keeping it fresh or warm, for the journey to the flowers" he looks confused by this, but it is obvious that he is only reciting the few bits that he overheard.
A mumble comes from the back of the room, an ancient looking Halfling pipes up with a crazed energy, "is fer rituals, blood magics of old! They's keeping it warm cause their magics don't work if'n it's cold!" The Halfling goes back to sipping the soup that they have been nursing this entire time, and the group of prisoners seem to ignore the Halfling or roll their eyes, not wanting to lend credit to the claim.
The Halfling cowers slightly, apparently too used to being ignored to have expected being approached. They less excitably this time respond, "oh ah, uhhh well flowers I dunno, tha's a new one on me, there ain't no flowers in the mountain tha's fer sure, but blood! I was tol' stories when I were a wee one, things to scare ye to sleep eh?, But I remember 'em.
Blood, life blood that is, symbolises sacrifice, and sacrifice is payment to devils an demons, me Pa used to say that if I didn't keep my nose clean, the lord of hell would come and tear me to shreds and then use me blood to gain more power, haha!
O'course you can't be sayin things like that no more, not when people be walking round wi horns on their head and takin' offence..." The Halfling dares to give a coy glance toward Gewyn (who I assume is not still in redcap form).
"Anyways, point is blood is the name of the game hmm? An' the game is sacrifice! All you gotta do is figure out whats being bought. Power? Summoning? Possession? Some kind of transmutation? Why do you want to know anyway? Will scary stories of old help you fight these little demonspawn?" The Halfling looks to Muir, a chaotic glint in their eye.
"Never underestimate the power of stories, my friend," Gewyn smiles. "I wish all of the others had your energy. 'Twould certainly make it easier to get you all to safety. As it is..."He gives Muir a helpless look.
"right you are, but you underestimate the fear of the unknown! We don't know how long we've been 'ere dunno what we're facin' out there" says the Ancient Halfling.
Looking around the room it seems that those who have gained a modicum of energy are still reluctant to move toward the door.
"Indeed Gewyn stories often have some truth to them no matter how far fetched they seem. So they use the blood to nourish themselves and for magic....A hag, a giant and now possibly a summoning....." Muir muttered quietly to Gewyn before turning to the those who are alive, healed, and fed "Let us wait here and rest. Our companions will be back shortly with news of their scout. Then we can gather ourselves and head to the rest of the survivors where Iver and his guards are."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Vin and Nef do their best to take out the ramining madcaps. Vin blasting with his magic and Nef going in to tear them apart as quickly as possible. Vin summons two balls of energy in his hands. One for each palm as he holds them out and shoots two beams at the enemy.
