Dang... both sets are a little lack luster for those roll parameters, so we'll go with something simple.
Name:Dalenar Race: Human Class: Barbarian (m/c into Warlock) Background: Sailor
Backstory: Dalenar's people are a nomadic tribe, travelling the coastlines of Faerun and living off the bounty that both waters and land provide. Most of the tribesmen took up professions of hunting or fishing, depending on their preferential terrain, though like all nomadic tribes all folk learned to defend their food and their vulnerable members from banditry and raids. As a young lad, Dalenar took to the boats, rafts and canoes that his people used for fishing as surefootedly as were he on dry land.
Occasionally his tribe would camp out near shipping lanes, or river inlets where Dalenar would watch the larger vessels of the towns and cities pass by. Their size and complexity compared to the simplistic and functional shallow bottomed boats of his tribe left the young boy in awe each time he saw them. As he grew his infatuation changed into a desire to see the vessels up close and learn more about them. Thus when he was old enough, he left his tribe and set out to the closest port town where he eventually made an impression on one of the captains who let him sail with them.
Why has your character come to Dragon's Rest? Having now worked aboard ships for most of his adolescence and into early manhood Dalenar's latest voyage lands him in Dragon's rest, a new land to Dalenar, and the talk of dragons that he crew have been gossiping about has piqued his interest.
Backstory: Daemyr wants to become a great wizard, but it’s not going well. In fact, he has been down on his luck for quite a while.
As a young elf, Daemyr left his family behind to travel with an itinerant wizard who offered him a position as his apprentice. He learned much from that rough mage, but when when his master was offered greater power in exchange for the sacrifice of his young apprentice, Daemyr had to seek employment elsewhere.
Too ashamed to return home, Daemyr vowed to himself that he would seek out another master, a far greater magician and gain the power he had been denied by his first master. Only then would he be willing to show his face again at his family’s grove.
This decision has gone poorly for Daemyr thus far. Poor and hungry, he has sought out the most powerful wizards in their towers, high priests in their cloisters, and arch-druids in their groves, begging for an apprentice position. But through bad luck, poor timing, and unfortunate misunderstandings, he has always been denied, wait-listed, or cast out unceremoniously.
But with an unflappable good humor, an almost pathological tenacity, and a talent for picking up a handy skill or two just about everywhere he goes, Daemyr has managed to keep his head above water all these years. Well, metaphorically at least.
Why has your character come to Dragon's Rest?: Daemyr was shipwrecked! Following rumors of a master wizard seeking new apprentices on a distant island, Daemyr traded his family’s heirloom sword, his last remaining possession to remind him of home, in exchange for passage on a ship. A storm sent him adrift with naught but his satchel, and a barrel of pickles to cling to. Found half dead on the shore of Stormwreck Isle, the kind folk of Dragon’s Rest took him in, giving him odd jobs to do while he figures out how in the world he’s going to come back what has been his grandest setback yet.
(My ability scores seem to have reset themselves when I added my character sheet into this post. The original numbers are lower than what’s shown here, and you can see them in my sheet.)
Backstory: He grew up in a far distant mountain peaks so he is accustomed to colder weather, but he can survive in other environment. His Father was second in command of a warring tribe. He joined the battles at a young age. He was in line to take over my father's position in my tribe when the tribe was attacked in the night by what is thought to be a rival tribe. His parents and younger siblings were killed in the attack along with the tribal leader. Only his youngest sister knows what really happened, and she disappeared that night. Now that the tribe is in shambles he left to go searching for what really happened that night. He has spent the last couple of years searching the world for his sister. Along the way he has used his skills to become a mercenary in order to make money and search for more information.
Dragon's Rest: He has come here because he heard that there might be useful information for him there. Either from a mysterious patron or to just gain more experience. He is proud of his war stories, and would love to come back to his tribe with more.
Backstory: Morseth had snuck into the Dragon Crypt as a youth, obsessed with the idea of dragons, and how such mighty creatures could die. Found by a cleric of Null, he was encouraged to stay there, protecting the remains of those dragons who had come there to die. As a worshipper of Null he would perform the necessary rites to allow their anima to be collected by the Night Dragon.
Why has your character come to Dragon's Rest?: When he passed his novicehood, and was on the brink of becoming a true cleric of Null, his old master came to him. "Before you finally give your life to this crypt, you must go to Dragon's Rest, on Stormwreck Isle. There you will see the importance of what we do here - the care and attention we give to these remains, how we help their anima to pass on. Compare what you have seen here to the graves at Dragon's Rest, and see the fate of those dragons that died in battle, and did not give themselves over to Null." So Morseth set out, intrigued to see what he would find.
Ok, recruitment is now closed! I am going to spend some time today going through all the amazing applications and then I will message the 5 players who are selected. If you do not get selected, I will still keep your application as a backup in case someone drops out! :)
