@KudosWyvernspur I kind of love that idea. She has also been gone in the feywild for a decent amount of time so she probably does not know a ton of history about this world either. So I extra love the idea that he passes along these random memories and regardless of if they are real or wholly correct, she would take them as gospel and sage wisdom.
Here is my character sheet: https://ddb.ac/characters/94244070/kEwvyQ . @JoanBaxter let me know if everything looks alright, or if there is anything that you would like me to change. The bonus feat I chose was Fey Touched, with the extra spell being bane. I think it makes the most sense, but I was also looking at Lucky as an option as well. I was thinking Maybe I could flavor the top (sling shot) of the Hoopak to be a small lyre that she uses to fling the sling bullets and when she swings it it makes a kind of humming sound and she uses that as her spell casting focus?
@EvieMarie0126: I don't see anything off! I agree Fey Touched fits her background for a bonus feat. I'm fine with you (mechanically speaking) tying your bardic focus to your hoopak, just be warned that if it gets disarmed you're out a weapon and a focus all at once.
Ok, @JoanBaxter if you are happy with Ori, I love her! Here are the two samples that you asked for:
Prose - Orisatra is a 3'3" Kender who revels in the magical beauty of the world. Quick with a cutting word or a new idea, Ori plays by a rulebook all her own. Having spent much of her formative years spirited away in the feywild, Ori uses her lute or lyre to spin wonderous feats of illusion and glamour that have captivated many an audience. Cursed with an insatiable curiosity and the stickiest of fingers, Ori often finds herself in.... unique circumstances. However, there is never a situation that this magical Mary Poppins can't talk, or sing, her way out of.
Sample - The tip of Ori's Hoopak flashes out and clangs against the metal of the guards breast plate. As the sound reverberates through the alley, she catches it and swirls it around using the other side of her walking stick that look much like a small lyre. As the soft vibrations of the strings meet the air and the vibration from the metal, Ori looks up from under the brim of her large, flower covered hat and in a soft, accented voice says "OH, pardon me officer... I don't know how I missed such a handsome man as yourself." She casts charm person and for a moment the guards face looks angry, then melts into a blush and he stumbles over his words, attempting to apologize for being in her way. She flashes him a small smile and coos "can I... squeeze past?" She wiggles her way between the guard and the door frame into the governor's mansion.
@Honeymonstar: We'll be starting at level 2, but a half-elf rogue is fine and I otherwise don't see issues. We need to come up with a bonus feat for you, because it's so integral to Wade's backstory I think something related to Wade's history as an experimental subject would make sense, I'll let you propose something. I believe we also need to figure out how you knew the recently deceased adventurer Ispin Greenshield, and I would like you to write a short paragraph of text where you describe Wade from a third person perspective as well as have him say some things. I think those three things are all you need to address. : )
Name: Calitynia Frostwind Race: Human (variant) Class: Fighter Background: Knight of Solamnia Backstory: Calitynia was born in a tiny town in the southern part of Solamnia. Not knowing her father, she grew up with just her mother who worked helping out in a tailor's shop. The family never had much and their lives were rather simple. In the small town, everyone knew Cali, as almost everyone called her. As she got old enough to walk, she would go wherever she felt like while her mother worked long hours. With her distinctive white hair, everyone could spot her in an instant. It was a source of murmured discussion, as it clearly hadn't come from her mother, and didn't match anyone else in town either.
It was on one of these random excursions about town, when she was about 6, that Cali met Ispin Greenshield. As she often did, she had been hanging out with a couple of the town guards when he had come into town. They hinted this adventurer knew all kind of fascinating stories. Which meant of course Cali followed him right into the nearest tavern to listen to his tales. She found her usual spot tucked away against the end of the bar where she could "hide" - although the woman at the bar, most the regulars, and on this day, Ispin Greenshield knew exactly where she was.
The traveling adventurer told stories of voyages across the sea where they fought vile tentacled creatures, saw a giant turtle, and had a seal that could also take the shape of a girl rescue them once from drowning. Cali was fascinated, not moving from her spot for well into the night. He continued with stories of other travels - trees that walked, vast caverns full of crystals, and encounters with bizarrely shaped beings. At some point Cali must have fallen asleep, for she soon realized the tavern was closing and everyone was leaving.
Cali scurried home, slipping in quietly and finding her way to her bed. The single room apartment where she lived with her mother was dark; she assumed her mother must have quickly fallen asleep as soon as she finished work. But in the morning, it was a little odd that her mother wasn't there. She waited for a time, since surely her mother must have just stepped out and would be back. She then thought she must have had to go into work. Cali got herself cleaned up and dressed as best she could then headed out. Her plan had been to go right to the tailor's shop, but the smell of food from the tavern captured her attention first. She again slipped in and quietly went over to ask the young man running the kitchen for a small bite to eat. Hearing a bit of her story, he was quickly swayed to help her out.
Taking her small plate of eggs and sausages to a table in the corner, she quickly started to eat. It so happened the Ipsin was there as well and noted the young girl from the previous night. He startled Cali as he popped over to her table. "Quite the appetite," he said. "Um, yea, well, I missed dinner last night and am a bit late for breakfast. So..." It was a bit of a stretch, as she stolen morsels of mostly sweets during her time listening. But it was true she'd had no proper dinner. "I see. You seemed to enjoy my tales last night! But what brings you here alone this morning?" She replied, "Oh, I wouldn't hang out in a tavern all night! And... uh... I'm just here to eat while my mother works."
Ipsen laughed and shakes his head. "I see. Well, I hope you don't mind my company then." She readily agreed and ate the rest of her food. Ipsen managed to get the rest of the story from Cali and looked a bit disturbed with the news. "Why don't we go check on your mom," he suggested as she finished. "I'll come with you." Cali shrugged, "Sure." She was quite pleased thought that this interesting adventurer was going to accompany her.
Shortly after, Cali's excitement was gone. Her mother wasn't to be found at the tailor's shop. She hadn't been seen, wasn't at home, and it slowly started to seem nobody had really seen her the night before either. Through it all Mr. Greenshield was there with her. In the coming days, the people of the town all jumped in to take care of Cali, and there were numerous discussions of who would care for the girl. In the end though, Ipsin had heard stories about Cali playing at sparring with both the guards and other kids her age. Her tenacity and strength started to convince him that she might have what it took to train to be a Knight of Solamnia.
He had to depart for a bit but promised to come back. Cali waited, left with the care of another woman who had known her mother well. She waited each day for her mother to return, or for the kind adventurer. It was over a month, but finally it was Ipsin that returned. He had made arrangements for her to travel to Sancrist where she would be cared for by those associated with the Knights and start to train towards becoming a Knight one day herself.
Ipsin accompanied her and on the ship that took her to Sancrist. Her life had changed completely. She became dedicated to the ideals of Paladine and the order. And she trained hard to develop her martial skills, finding a preference for fighting with the glaive. It reminded her of a bit of the simple sticks she would use to spar with the town guards when she was young. After many years, she has finally reached her goal of fully becoming a Knight of Solamnia. It is an honor that she has looked forward to since arriving in Sancrist. Calitynia now cares about little more than upholding the honor of that position.
@Culuril: My understanding is the background feat in this adventure is in addition to a race feat if the race you choose gets one at level 1, so yes you can double up if you're a variant human. Looking forward to seeing you develop a character. : )
I like the idea of Wilberforce worshiping Zivilyn as an absence God. During his flight from the slavers, Wilberforce stumbled into an old temple of Zivilyn and found rest for the night. Wilberforce doesn't really expect anything from anyone, even the gods and therefore while he prays to Zivilyn he doesn't attribute his Druidic powers to Zivilyn. Wilberforce believes that he communes directly with Nature and receives guidance from it, however if asked he wouldn't be able to tell the difference between being guided by Nature or Zivilyn. So maybe he does gain his powers unknowingly from Zivilyn and is acting as his agent. If @EvieMarie0126 is interested we could link her return from the feywild to Zivilyn, who has connections to the feywild. This could then spark the event that lead to Wilberforce believing that Zivilyn has returned.
In this light I have made Wilberforce a Moon Circle druid, as he hasn't received any formal druidic training and has a tight bond with Nature.
Sample: Wilberforce skips happily through the town, he is uninhibited and his light steps defy his 53 years. Many wip marks still cross his back and tug when he skips, but he finds joy in the children playing, Nature pushing through in gardens and young urchins pickings the pockets of nobles. He casts minor cantrips to help break up the road and encourage the weeds to grow through. However one urchin is a bit two slow and is caught be a noble. Wilberforce is not minded to interfere and will let Nature take it course, until he hears the drawing of a sword and a cultured voice saying "Let's see if cutting of a hand will teach you to respect your betters". Suddenly it is the Noble being pulled off his feet as Wilberforce turns into a large Dire Wolf and grabs him from behind. The urchin gets away while the noble calls for the guard. Wilberforce uses his enhanced Dire Wolf speed to quickly run out of town. Wilberforce is content, sleeping in Inns is nice enough but he never minds sleeping on the ground. He assumes the rest of the party are happy enough as well. Maybe he should hunt some food for dinner.

@KudosWyvernspur I am happy to work out something with this nature being. I’m thinking that maybe this is something Ori discovers as we adventure? She doesn’t realize this deity was the one who plucked her from the Feywilds but as we adventure and learn more about each other and the world we find out that it was?
@KudosWyvernspur: I like the idea about how Wilberforce learned of Zivilyn. I could definitely see him attributing Ori's return to godly intervention, whether or not that's actually the case, and moon circle druid is always fun. The paragraph had a few typos that caught me up on reading, but overall very good. I'm inclined to say you have a spot in the game. : )
@LorenzotheGreat: I'm choosing players less on a first-come-first-serve basis and more on a first-to-win-me-over-with-thoughtful-characters-good-writing-and-pleasant-personality basis, so please feel free to give it a go. : )
(This is pending your approval. There are a couple of things I'm adding that maybe I shouldn't. Happy to adjust to meet your requirements.)
Pelo Surestaff was one of a long line of artisans to ply their trade throughout the continent of Ansalon. Like his hill dwarf forebears, he wandered the land in a wagon, going wherever there was work, bringing along his portable forge. Being a blacksmith, that often brought him to the edge of war. He has forged many a blade, axe, and hammer, as well as more mundane items like pots, horseshoes, and fishhooks. He is a master craftsman, proud of his art and determined to perfect it. Perhaps that is why Reorx, wielder of the great world forge, chose him for an emissary. One night, several months ago, he had a dream. In that dream, he stood at the foot of a great anvil, 10 feet high. At the anvil stood a giant of a dwarf, wield a massive hammer with skill and grace in spite of its size. He watched as the great dwarf hammered at some metal, repeatedly thrusting it into the forge to heat it red and make it pliable. After a time, the metal was nearly white with heat and greatly altered, but it still bore no final shape. The great dwarf then spoke:
Though I make the world and create all things, It is you, my son, that will decide its purpose. Find the one to whom it belongs. Shape it in the fire of dragon's breath. Make form meet function and change the world.
Since then, Pelo has been able to do new things, things he never imagined. He knows who he saw: the great god Reorx, the Life-giver. He knows what he must do: find the one worthy and forge them a weapon with which to change the world.
Pelo is attending Ispin's funeral because Ispin is an old friend (they met on a battlefield in an old war) and because Reorx has sent him a dream telling him to come.
@LorenzotheGreat: This is very good, feels setting appropriate and interesting. I think the one thing we need that you didn't address is a background feat. I'm not seeing an official one that feels appropriate, so lets make our own. Here's what I propose but I'm definitely open to other ideas:
Reorx's Guidance
Gain the Guidance cantrip with the following limitation: you may only use it to assist tool skill checks.
A number of times per long rest equal to your proficiency bonus, you may make a check with a tool you are proficient with as if you had expertise in that tool.
When you use your Blessing of the Forge ability, you may bless Uncommon magic weapons or armors in addition to non-magic ones.
@KudosWyvernspur: Just noticed that we don't have a background feat for you, do you have something in mind? Also I may have missed it but I think we need to figure out how he knew Ispin. No rush just when you get a chance to think on it.
Finished my character, I think. Let me know if I've missed something. I think I included both her interaction with Ipsin and a bit of character interaction example.
@JoanBaxter. Thanks a lot, I'm really excited about joining a DragonLance campaign. As Wilberforce has been around for a while, he has picked up a few extra talents along the road. Therefore I have given him the Skilled feat as the background feat. I will draft his background with Ispin and try to avoid any typos this time :-) Sorry in advance if there are any.
