The goblin takes a sickening blow to the side from Vakiel's sword; ribs break under the massive blow. The goblin drops its weapon and puts one hand in the air and holds its side with the other hand, its face pale with shock and pain.
"Quarter! Quarter!" it shrieks. "They made me do it!"
Just then Esa's fire bolt strikes it in the face and it dies.
Stryke turns to look at Esa who shrugs. "I didn't know it was surrendering, I was concentrating on my spell."
The dog is present and could attack, but at the moment Stryke is talking to it and keeping it under control.
Present in the room and corridor:
The prisoner tied in a chair.
The dog who was named as Gnasher by the goblin.
The bodies of the goblin and hobgoblin. The goblin is wearing a chain shirt and has a pouch at his belt. The hobgoblin has chain armour with the Iron Circle insignia on the shoulder guards and also has a pouch at his belt as well as a scroll. The hobgoblin was armed with a spear, and the goblin the usual jagged curved goblin blade.
Esa returns to Augustins shoulder and does a sassy hair flick. "See that? Another one down by yours truly. Doing well, aren't I?" She groats to him, not realising he's probably too focussed on the battle to acknowledge her.
Augustin scans the room for anymore threats before going up to each and every party member and make sure they’re ok. Before turning their attention to the prison and looking to free him.
if the goblin gets cute, I’m going to flick my new shiny shiny dagger at his head.
Augustin gives a little ESA a ssuuuuper delicate head scritch. “That’s girl, not much to it is there. How did we even get roped into this crazy situation…. BUT we seem to have ourselves a puppy!”
Esa screws up her nose at being spoken to like a child, but doesn't comment on it. "Someone get it under control. Feed it something or tie it up. I don't plan on ending up as dog food."
As soon as Augustin removes the gag the prisoner is effuse with his thanks.
Augustin knows him - this is Marvin, not friends but friendly. He's a bit of a flake, often late for shift as he sleeps off a hangover. Which is why no one really batted an eye when he didn't turn up for his watch. They thought he was sleeping off a bender when actually he had been captured and interrogated.
As you cut Marvin free from the chair he tells you through swollen lips that they wanted to know all about security in Harkenwold, which guards were where, and especially about Harken Keep where Baron Stockmer and his family live - and Old Kellar.
"I didn't tell them anything, of course!" says Marvin.
The scroll taken from the hobgoblin is written in common.
"Heg,
Once you have all the information you can get from him don't kill the prisoner. We are taking some of the prisoners to the bullywugs in Toadwallow as part of the deal we've made with them and he'll go too. You'll be escorting the prisoners, I don't trust Frigg the goblin boss. Or the bullywugs for that matter, but they will provide a second front for the Harkenwolders to deal with.
You know the plan, and if anything goes wrong kill everyone and head to Harken Keep. We will have taken it by then.
The party takes some time to bind their wounds, re-learn spells, tend to Marvin, and explore the room. Esa does an identify spell as a ritual and finds that the dagger is a +1 dagger that does an extra d6 piercing damage against dragons and dragonborn.
Between them the hobgoblin and goblin boss have 140 iron bits in their pouches and 14 silver coins, all minted in Sarthel, the only city to survive the fall of the Nerathi Empire.
There appears to be no other ways out of the room. The statue just appears to be a statue, likely from a time when the land was part of the Bael Turath empire, centuries ago, long before the Empire of Nerath arose. The Bael Turath was a human empire in conflict with the Arkhosia Empire, ruled by dragonborn. When they started losing, the rulers of Bael Turath made a deal with devils, which involved those willing to become tieflings and those not willing to become slaves. In the end both empires crumbled from the effort required to maintain such a war. The majority of the tieflings in the land are from that time.
When they are ready, the party help limping Marvin back to the entrance. In the first room, where you first encountered the goblin guards, Old Kellar waits anxiously.
"The Iron Circle have taken the village," he says. "They have Baron Stockmer and his family hostage."
Augustin makes as if to move out of the Undercroft, as if he would take on all the Iron Circle on his own and free his uncle and kin.
"No, lad," says Old Kellar, "the Baron himself implored me to get as many people as I can to Albridge. The resistance will start there. We have to be more than brave, we have to be smart."
The party emerges onto a quiet street, but not too far away there are shouts, cries. No fires though, and no running battles in the streets. The Iron Circle were well prepared and struck with intent. There is large cart with two horses with scared looking people on it, none of them appear to be up for a fight. The party get up into the wagon. While they do so Esa takes a quick flight around, and sees hobgoblin and human troops of the Iron Circle going from house to house, dragging out anyone who was hiding. No one is being killed, they are being taken to an area near the keep where it looks like they are going to be addressed. Esa thinks this is probably good news, the Iron Circle want to rule, not massacre.
The cart is ready to go and Esa flies back to it and perches on Augustin's shoulder. The cart takes off, out of the village as quietly as can be managed.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Unless others interject, Grimwald will squirrel away the 14 silver coins, testing one in his teeth. He sizes up the chain armour of the Hobgoblin, tests it weight and noise. He offers to the party, otherwise he will try and sell and make some silver for the party. The party will quickly come to realise he will salvage anything to make a bit of coin. He will hoard, but will share equally share with his 'Scurry'. Apparently the other party members have become his scurry.
During rest, Grimwald will be seen to be pondering over an ordinary looking acorn. When he thinks no one is looking he attempts to bury the acorn in a nook or crevice. Augustin spins and strikes at the maddened dog.
Attack: 6 Damage: 9
It was a poor strike and misses the dog completely.
Stryke moves up and holds his hands up and speaks to the dog in an unknown (to others) tongue.
The dog is still growling but moves back. You can see recent wounds and old scars on the dog that speak of long term abuse.
Stryke will throw some food to the dog and sit on the floor looking at it with his club on the ground
Out of combat now.

Given the burns to his head from Esa's fire bolt he is very unlikely to be described as cute. That and being dead.
The dog sniffs the food Stryker has thrown, then gobbles it up, still watching the party, giving them some side eye.
The dog has stopped growling.

Stryke casts speak with animals to talk to the dog and find out what it wants to do and if he will follow us and not eat our fairy friend.
He also tells the party I can cast guidance now if anyone wants help on ability checks
