Grimbald volunteers to go first with Augustin close behind, ready to yank him out of danger if need be.
The dwarf ranger opens the north door. There is a short, uneven passageway, then an open room. Grimbald can see into the room with his darkvision.
The room is steeped in an eerie, ancient silence, untouched by light for centuries. The air is heavy with the scent of damp earth and decay, sending chills through anyone who dares to enter. The shattered remains of a once-grand conference table dominate the center of the chamber, its splintered wood and jagged edges telling a tale of violence. Broken chairs are scattered haphazardly around the room, their wooden frames twisted and worn with age.
Against the walls, old bookshelves stand as solemn guardians of the past, though they are now mere shadows of their former selves. The shelves bow under the weight of time, sagging precariously, and many of the books they hold are in various states of disintegration. Pages yellowed with age and covers eaten away by insects, rodents, and the relentless march of time hint at the forgotten knowledge and stories they once contained.
The cold seeps into the bones, a chill that seems to emanate from the very walls, and the oppressive darkness only heightens the sense of foreboding. The room feels frozen in time, a crypt of forgotten meetings and abandoned wisdom, whispering secrets to those brave enough to listen in the stillness.
"I can cast a light cantrip on Augustin's shield," says Esa, flitting around at the back of the party "if you want to save your torch." She touches one of her tattoos and casts light then touches Augustin's shield and it starts to glow with a bright light.
“Well I guess I can see where I’m going now! Thanks everyone! Let’s go get whatever the lord of this manor is and put him to rest.” Augustin moves forward cautiously. If he can dodge as an action he will. He has a goal of smiting the ghost ASAP and hoping for the best. He is not concerned too much about other nasties at this stage
Vakiel also steps alongside Augustin, as the paladin shines his glowing shield about to see into the gloom. Rustling Leaves moves into the corridor but stays near the doorway, casting eyes about for threat. Esa comes alongside him and perches on his shoulder. Grimbald comes into the doorway, hand crossbows at the ready.
The three at the back all have a good view of the floor giving way suddenly under Vakiel's and Augustin's feet.
Vakiel and Augustin manage to quickly step back as the floor slabs collapse into a pit with a great noise that echoes through the dungeon. The noise subsides and becomes just the occasional crack or scrape of stone, and eventually there is silence again. There is a lot of dust in the air. And now there is a 15 foot gap from where the party are and where the rest of the level continues.
Augustin offers to tie a road around his chest and jump across the pit, using himself as an anchor for those who need some help jumping across. So even if they don’t make the jump, they are still attached via rope to him and don’t have a spiked death.
Augustin takes a run up and hurls himself across the gap. He lands on the other side, teeters for a second, then recovers. Looking down he can see the rocks and floor slabs have fallen into an area below, it doesn't look like natural cave, more like an expanded, worked and cleared cave. Maybe another level of this below ground complex.
"I agree with Impulsive Boy. Let's just deal with what's in front of us! Stay on this level," says Esa, flying across to Augustin and alighting on his shoulder. "Doesn't look like there is anything moving down there." She looks expectantly across at the others.
RL will give a shrug and go and open the west door and have a look in that room from around the side of the wall while taking the dodge action.
When the door opens the smell of stagnant water wafts in RL's face.
A pool of murky brown water dominates the southern half of this room. Hogsheads (54 gallon kegs) stand against the curved northern wall.
"It comes in Hogsheads?!" Grimbald makes a dwarfline to the kegs and investigate further 8
Grimbald opens one of the half empty casks and sniffs. He can smell it's "expired" and while probably not unsafe to drink, would taste terrible.
Grimbald kicks a stone into the murky water in frustration.....
It goes in with a plop. But nothing else happens.
“Well that only leaves one way left to go then doesn’t it”
Augustin will follow whoever is up front, he’s made for smashing not nimbly dodging a setup
So, who is up front?

Whispers “…. I can’t see ANYTHING”
RL will shake his head at the blind human and light a torch to cast some light for the party

Augustin got a 16.

“Maybe we just sit on the down below for the time being and see what else is up here?”
