Rihala was a scout in the Last War - a good one, too. Always more comfortable with his beast companion and wild animals than other humanoids, he now patrols the edges of the Q'Barran Jungle near Adderport, keeping 'civilization' and the wilds as far apart as possible. Short, barrel-chested, and stocky, he reminds most people of a cross between a mastiff and a dwarf. His extended canine teeth and slightly enlarged ears further the image. But he still maintains some connections to the people in the city - a bittersweet reminder of his lost love and how she thrived in the larger towns. Others were drawn to her exuberant personality like moths to a flame - she was outgoing and friendly. The exact opposite of Rihala, and yet they shared a common bond and a deep love for each other.
Just saw Talis... It might be interesting if Silthras bomb was intended to defeat this mission.... But the fact he was warning about a bomb meant he was beyond suspicion. They could go on to the destination on foot, then part ways (or not).

Gimme a bit to read. I'm not super familiar with Eberron lore, I'm inhaling it piece meal lol
Thanks @Ereshion. That looks excellent to me. My Eberron Lore is at least 10 years old now, so very rusty.
If Service doesn't get through and you do then I assume you can just update the story if you want, maybe Service tended your wounds but became non-operational before rescue or just didn't survive the crash at all.

Gan-Re: Aarakocra Barbarian - The Wild Beyond the Witchlight | DM - Keys of Empire
Thank you all for the applications. You’re making narrowing this down to a group of 5 difficult! I’m closing the thread tomorrow, March 25th, at 6:00 PM pacific time. I’ll reach out to my final group via PMs. If you don’t hear from me, then you weren’t chosen. If you aren’t chosen it’s nothing personal, I just have to pick a limited group.
Backstory:Born the son of Hattori Hanzō Yasunaga, a minor samurai in the service of the Matsudaiara, then Tokugawa Clan. He would earn the nickname Demon Hanzo because of the fearless tactics he displayed in his operations. At the age of 16, his first battle was a nighttime attack during the siege of Udo Castle. He now serves on the personal guard of the Tokugawa.
Beshlog was born in the Icehorn Mountains, a member of a primitive tribe of Goliaths who distrusted both magic and technology. But Beshlog was not content with the life of a simple herdsman. He spent a great deal of time in the sacred caves of the Ancestors, studying the runes of the giants and slowly piecing together the knowledge of spellcraft from the bits and pieces lore he could gather. He wasn't especially good at magic, but he didn't really care; he just wanted to satisfy his curiosity about this mysterious other world.
For the most part, the other members of his tribe tolerated Beshlog's oddities. After all, he was a good, strong neighbor and his search for knowledge so far had been confined to looking to the Ancestors. But then something changed... one day, as Beshlog and several other members of his tribe were ice fishing, a terrible accident happened. Under the combined weight of multiple goliaths, the ice shattered, and on the bitter cold mountain it the cracked ice was frozen over again before the half-dozen tribesmen and women could return to the surface. All of them perished... or at least, they should have. As he struggled in the icy water, his lungs burning from the lack of air as he fruitlessly tried to break through to the surface, a strange voice called to him softly, offering him a chance to live in exchange for a favor in the future. With time rapidly running out, Beshlog had no choice... he took the mysterious being's deal.
Several hours later, Beshlog emerged from the depths. But it was clear something had changed... he had been marked forever by the touch of that mysterious being. The tolerance that the other members of his tribe had up until that point shown was gone. With most of his friends and family dead in the accident, and the rest of the tribe turned against him, Beshlog left the mountains behind, knowing that his destiny lay elsewhere.
Service, like many people working in service, would probably be aware of many details that rich clientele let slip around them. Service is already based a bit on the Heirs of Ash trilogy, so Ashrem having another legacy would certainly be in keeping with Eberron Lore.
Service wouldn’t even realise which of the many secrets you would find important. You have a great character and I hope that you get through with or without Service.
To be honest Jetsam by @EMIW (wave) is probably a better Warforged than Service, although I would enjoy any potential interactions between Service and Jetsam. Service would try to get Jetsam to be a bit nicer and more outgoing to people, maybe take off some of the seaweed. Maybe Jetsam and Service could have met before and there is a common story to both of them being abandoned. Jetsam could try to stop Service mentioning any details of their former owners. However that may not be in keeping with the Eberron theme.
I haven’t put up a picture because I did hide another small easter egg in my backstory and I am waiting to see if anyone bothers to mention it. I am easily entertained :-)
Note that I don’t know anything about the dragons eye and cannot comment on how appropriate the backstory is, however happy to update and iterate if the DM likes the idea.
I didn't really go into it with the backstory I wrote, and maybe I should have done, but I would play Jetsam as if he has no memory of his time before washing up on the beach. This helps work around the fact that I know nothing about Eberron lore, but also leaves room open for characters like Service to recognise Jetsam from before and he not know why.
As you can see from the Marine background, I have an idea that his role was raiding ships or enemy docks, that kind of thing, but at some point he was essentially killed and fell overboard. Just like Service has been in the jungle, Jetsam has been at the bottom of the ocean. I'm hoping the DM will fill in with flashes of memory, maybe on a good roll it's like "You know this information about this place, but don't know how you know" and the puzzle pieces will form a picture of who Jetsam used to be. He probably wouldn't be proud of it.
His Rage states would not be self-induced but triggered by the Storm under times of great stress e.g. battles when they'll actually be helpful, I wouldn't just trigger it in a shop for the sake of it!
Decided to close recruitment a few hours earlier than originally intended. Thank you all for your submissions. I will reach out to the selected players via PMs. Expect to hear from me sometime today or tomorrow!
I'll throw in my hat - I love the Eberron setting!

Love God. Love Others. Any Questions?

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
