Cassandra ignores the conversation, looking at the rotting remnants of previous offerings.
"What are you doing?" The satyr boy walks up behind Cassandra, goat in tow.
"I think a sacrifice is what we need to escape this place." She glances at the goat.
The goat is made of brass.
He doesn't notice her glance at his companion, though. "A sacrifice?" He flicks at the rotten offerings with a single finger. "Does it have to be.. alive? Can it be like, a material sacrifice?"

"I believe the sacrifice of food would be sufficient. A god won't help us down here, but a spirit might."
He can definitely feel traces of magical energy around here. Old magic energy. It seems concentrated up on the altar. He can even spot some died blood on it.

Roll the check you think corresponds to what you’re looking for (and tell me which check you’re rolling). Perception for general items, Investigation for like what happened here, Arcana for traces of magic and magic items, etc. Or roll acrobatics or something and just leave the interpretation up to me.

Most of the junk is too old and rotten/claimed by nature to be able to tell what it was beforehand. She can pick out bones, though, from live sacrifices. They range from all sizes and she’s pretty sure she sees a dead fish.

"I think an animal sacrifice would be appropriate. Anyone have a fish stuck in your clothes?"

Pete looks through his clothes and finds a half digested fish covered in grease, stuck in his jacket. "Yeah, but I'm not sure it's gonna do the trick. Bit grim and gods tend to be picky."
Geoffrey pulls out a cracker from his bag. It's got the texture of a brick and is crawling with maggots. He sets it on fire and places it on the altar
"This here has got burnt food (burnt technically food anyway) and live sacrifices on it. Plus, it's so dense there's hours of fuel in it! Should do the trick"

Khaira adds a strip of dried meat to the pyre. "Nothing else I have wasn't soaked through."

*How does he set it on fire?*
A disgusting smell rises from the ashes as the fire gorges on the cracker. The maggots almost seem to scream as the fire eats away at them, but with nothing to sustain it, the flames die quickly. Charred remains stain the marble coral altar and it smells like.. rotted kelp and dead fish. The dried meat seems to smell sweeter, like honeybread, but the smell mingles with the stronger distasteful odor.
The clerics can recognize the smell as a divine being’s diastase in sacrifice. They also know that to displease the gods is generally a bad thing that leads to other bad things.

Khaira sighs and puts her hand on her forehead. "We're doomed."
