Please take a moment to introduce you characters to the company. Give us all a physical description, tell us about your personality and mannerisms.
Also tell your companions how you came to know your friend and patron Gundren Rockseeker. A dwarven explorer and entrepreneur. He is one of three brothers who own "Rockseeker Expeditions".
I don't know if this is the correct campaign - seems to be the my personal motto! Wood elf ranger that hates goblin kind with a passion. Not the sharpest arrow in the quiver but honor is everything. One can gain honor by killing goblin kind you know! Did I tell you I HATE goblin kind? I do I do. Now Gundren, there's a chap who knows how to smite Orcs, Goblins, Hobgoblins...... Met Gundren on a goblin hunt. Well when I say met, ran right into him around a giant acorn tree trunk whilst running pell mell after a black hearted little runt that had terrorizing some maple farmers up in my woods. Angry little fella is Gundren! Nearly took my head off! Well after a few brews (I quite like that black treacle dwarves drink) we're fast friends and well what can I say, you can't say no to him! Not when goblin heads are up for collecting! Always found the little folk easier company than my own kin - mine are waaay to uppity. Sooo serious! Not like we really are gods among mortals, well not real gods, godlike maybe..... But still, Gundren and his fam are way fun company.
I remember Gundren visited my home, Gǟthǫl Džörn, a few times over the last 30 years whilst on his expeditions, he would always enthrall us younguns with his tales of adventure. He would tell us if we needed his help just ask, well the time to ask for help has come. Gǟthǫl Džörn has been destroyed by goblin scum, the vile beasts will pay, this I swear, it may be years before we have the strength to take our revenge, but one day it will come! For now, we need to restore our honour and fortune, I know Gundren can help us.
I am Kryinor Willowbark, a half-elf druid that met Gundren under unfortunate circumstances, he came to our forest in the depths of winter, trying to get back home after an orc patrol had ambushed his party in the hills to the north, my teacher found him half dead in the snow and brought him back to our hut so that he could rest and recover, in the spring Gundren left our woods and told us if ever I decided to leave the forest, to come and seek him out, that we would have the grandest of adventures and rid the world of evil at the same time. I wish to make the world a better place and bring harmony to more than just my forest home.
You recieve a message from your good friend and patron Gudren Rockseeker. He has asked you to come to the city of Neverwinter, and meet him at his warehouse in the newly reclaimed section of the city. Since the closing of the chasm that had almost turned the city into a ruin many enterprising merchants and traders had carved out a piece for themselves in the devastated south east quarter.
The Rockseeker brothers, brave to a fault, and having a nose for riches saw an opportunity and took it. You find Grudren in his office amidst other tradesmen, labourers, and specialists. The place is a raucous mess of activity and industry. You can see that the work of building the compound is almost complete. At its centre Gudren surveys it all, and often refers to a set of plans on his table. From time to time he opens the door to the outer warehouse and yells at this person and that, "More clearance to that gate you daft fool! We want wagons in here and not childrens carts...", "You call that level, who hit you on the head and ruined your eyesight you greasy goblin!", "This is a place for working not slacking, a day in a proper occupation would see you come up short you scoundrel!".
When you arrive his cross face breaks into a big smile and he grips you in both arms, nearly squeezing you in two. "So good to see you, how long has it been my friend? Come come, let us sit and eat, and drink , and talk."There are some exciting things afoot!" He waddles off towards the back room and opens the door to his simple apartment. "Come on and sit down, the others will be here shortly."
After a short while and some good food you find yourself at table with Gudren and three other interesting and rugged individuals. "As tot the reason for me asking you all here. I want you to bring a wagon load of provisions to the rough-and-tumble settlement of Phandalin, a couple of days' travel southeast of the city."
Gundren is clearly excited and more than a little secretive about his reasons for the trip, saying only that he and his brothers had found "something big," and that he'd pay you ten gold pieces each for escorting his supplies safely to Barthen's Provisions, a trading post in Phandalin.
He then set out ahead of you on horse, along with a warrior escort named Sildar Haliwinter, claiming he needed to arrive early to "take care of business."
You've spent the last few days following the High Road south from Neverwinter, and you've just recently veered east along the Triboar Trail. You've encountered no trouble so far, but this territory can be dangerous. Bandits and outlaws have been known to lurk along the trail.
OOC:
Ok, if you could give me your travelling arrangements please :) I.e. Marching order, who is driving the cart, is anyone scouting etc
I'll be beside the wagon near the junction of trail and forest looking for signs of trouble. I'll be carrying my longbow with arrows and quiver in their normal place.
I am driving the cart, watching the road and surveying the treeline infront for anything out of the ordinary, keeping shield within easy reach and my pouch of pebbles slighty open on my belt.
The wagon bumps along behind the plodding Oxen following the rutted track cut between the wood. The wagon is packed full of an assortment of mining supplies and food. This includes a dozen sacks of flour, several casks of salted pork, two kegs of strong ale, shovels, picks, and crowbars (about a dozen each), and five lanterns with a small barrel of oil (about fifty flasks in volume). You would estimate the total value of the cargo is 100 gp.
A tidy prize for would be bandits and bushwhackers. Your intimidating presence no doubt has kept any larcenous interest at bay thus far.
You've been on the Triboar Trail for about half a day. As you come around a bend, you spot two dead horses sprawled about fifty feet ahead of you, blocking the path. Each has several black-feathered arrows sticking out of it. The woods press close to the trail here, with a steep embankment and dense thickets on either side.
I am on high alert and slow the cart down still edging forward toward Kargan awaiting his signal, while doing this i use my free hand to pull 3 pebbles from my pouch put them on my lap, whisper ‘azure meloc’ (casting magic stone on them) before gabbing them back up in my hand.
I motion to the cart to stop where it is, this has all the hallmarks of a greenskin ambush! I charge off into the woods on the left side of the road with my shield at the fore.
Black Shafted arrows - Goblins! I knock an arrow as I move into the forest to my left being as quiet as I can. I will take station just in the tree line, remain still watch and listen!
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kargan charges off into the trees in an attempt to surprise suspected would be goblin ambushes. Titusvespasianus moves into the verge and readies covering fire, and Eedimkuzz moves off the road into the trees and advances in the forest. Kriynor prepares for a fight also.
Kargan's suspicions were right, although the goblins hiding in the trees looked surprised at the sudden impending bearded violence they are ready for him and return whit their own screaming advance!
"Argatz, ygubb, notcha slaab!" they yell in the goblin tongue.
A the same moment two more goblins on the right side of the trail move to the edge of the trees and prepare to fire!
