"Missed me, missed me, now you gotta kiss me!" Artifex taunts as they do an awkward half-roll out of the muck, popping to their feet. "That's how this works right? Kiss the ugly frog, get a prince instead?" As they speak, their tattoos stretch, the lines of ink stitching their wounds closed.
So crawling in difficult terrain means every 1 ft of movement will take 3 speed, so crawling out of the oil will take 15 ft of movement, and another 15 to stand up from prone. This will trigger an AoO, but first the cove leader has to make another DC 13 Dex Save, cause he ended his turn in the oil slick.
Sorry to hear about your mom, I'm glad things turned out as well as they could.
(thanks all for your wellwishes! :) Things seem to be settling down to a new normal where both my mom and I are actually able to function at a higher level than before; and in my case it feels like some areas of my brain that are asynchronous in AS as far as their pace of development vs. a neurotypical individual have serendipitously decided to grow up just in time to meet a new period in my life where I'll be called on to do more complex adulting than I have previously. Stents or no, my mom's birthday is Halloween (which I've always considered really cool) and this year she'll be 88 (which, whatever I may consider it, calls on me as her adult son to be ready to take on new responsibilities as her body and mind start winding up a life which IMHO and not only as her son she has every cause to be proud of as a fearless and tireless advocate for justice who always got more angry when you hurt somebody else than she did when what you did hurt her ... but god help you in either case, you now have a tireless and very competent bulldog for justice on your case. Also a very pragmatic wisewoman who has taught me a great deal about the cycles and phases of life and prepared me as best she can for the coming time. -- and would probably prompt me at this point that I've wandered a little far in the heavy direction from my original purpose of assuring everyone that things are BETTER now LOL...
anyhoo, if I'm parsing all the posts correctly it's Saoirsirse's turn to act next, followed by the swamp zombie to close out the round(

------------------------------------------------------ I was going to wait until Tarton's turn to respond to all you've shared with us about your current events to not clutter up the thread, but the longer I wait, the more I feel like an ass for not responding. These life changes are hard when they come at you all of a sudden and I'm not looking forward to when my parents health suddenly turns for the worse (they're in their 70's).
I can see you have a great mother and it's great to hear things are improving for you and her. I wish you and all your family luck and improved health in all it's forms and to find more happiness in each other's company. And an early Happy Birthday to your mom.
( :-D thank you and thank all of you for your support :),
(A couple things in general development of the campaign. I'm signed up as a player/DM playtester for the Unearthed Arcana material that WOTC is trying out for future D*D editions. Not sure whether the current one entirely fits anyone's character but I'm not sure it doesn't fit some as a possible multiclass either. And the old school D/Der in me is intrigued that they're bringing back the Psionicist concept as a class and ... well, I DID promise to help playtest the durn thing. so I at least have to offer it to you folk to be an honourable old school DM type IMHO ,,, lme know if anyone's interested)
(also, even as you are fighting the bullywugs and trying to learn what a certain lizardfolk shaman/practical joker would like to know, you suddenly get a strange tremor ... call it a "psychic flash", if you will ... that you are coming near at last to the elusive lair of which you have been so long in quest. Those of you that set out from Llandovion, at whatever point, get a brief vision in your minds of your employer's face:
... and then, like an echo in the mind's ear, Myrtea's voice relaying the clues discovered by Mr. Leewamba's personal diviner:
"In a mountain cave marked by bones ... ... watched over by berries of life and death .. .. behind stone that is locked with shadows; and behind the shadow of stone ..."
As Zladark heard the voice echo in his mind, his first thought was that the blood loss was beginning to affect him. But just to be safe, he yelled out between bloody coughs:
"Did you guys hear that?"
After another rasping cough, he added:
"Also, Gwrgi—if you could lend me some of that healing magic of yours, it would be most appreciated! If I don’t have to focus on patching myself up, I can go all out on this foul creature that’s trying to eat me!"
Zladark sees their silver-scaled guide and healer turn her head towards him with a reassuring nod, though he's not quite sure whether her reply covers his previous question as to hearing the strange verse. She begins to gather her spirit in, falling into the half-trance from which she taps the divine power fueling her spells. But Saoirsirse is quicker to respond, crying out words of invocation and protection as she points to the battered monk and calls upon her god. A shimmering bubble of light seems to swell out from his skin, and his muscles begin to tingle as he feels the holy light subtly flicker. He feels as if his own limbs will now flicker as swiftly in evading any further attacks from his amphibian foes (shield of faith ... +2 AC for 10 minutes; and it only cost a BA so if mxx wants her to do anything else this turn she still has a reaction and regular action left_). Upon seeing this, the shambling zombie flinches away instinctively from the holy light and turns to seek a less well protected target. It swings its lolling head from side to side for a while, and then with a gurgling moan of frustration it concludes there are no other targets on its side of the log. Gurgling and spitting with frustration, it turns towards Tarton, the next closest living creature not a bullywug or giant frog. Climbing over the fallen log will slow it this turn, but it twists and lashes the thorny vines coiling around it towards the intrepid halfling in a blind snap strike. Only the last few inches can reach that far, but it swings them about anyway hoping for a lucky hit.
An unfamiliar look begins to creep into the mad shaman leader's eyes as it looks about the battlefield: uncertainty. This ambush is definitely not going the way it had planned. It reaches up to its throat and pulls at a thong of leather no one had noticed before. You see the glint of silver about its neck before it takes the whatever-it-is at the end of the thong into its webby hand and begins to mutter. All you can make out are repeated pleas and invocations to 'Granny Grampuswumpus', whoever that may be: but all can see the result as the shaman and one frog are enveloped in an earthy smelling cloud of mist that seems to settle in their wounds and slow the bleeding. The bullywug archer, though not wounded, is caught in the edge of the mist and has its skin visibly thickened as the strange cloud wraps about it (aid to designated targets). With a croak of encouragement, it takes up its bow with new strength and sends an arrow at Gwrgi, who is too busy preparing a healing spell for Zladark to immediately respond ([s pell]healing bolt[/ spell] for 9 HP). Finally, the reeling tridenteer facing Uz has had enough. A look of betrayal washes over its face as it sees the healing cloud its leader summoned used up before it even starts to drift towards its combat. With a howl of outrage, it whirls away from the terrible warrior it is fighting and starts running towards the river with its arms reaching up to prepare for a dive.
===========================
Thorny vine vs. Tarton: (w/ disADV for long range) 16; damage if hits 5 piercing plus -2 necrotic
Shortbow attack vs Gwrgi: (just barely in normal range, no bonus or penalty) 23; damage if hits 2 piercing
(Tarton and Zladark are up, followed by the next batch of spear-carrier bullys)
As Zladark felt the protective magic of Saoirsirse wash over him and sensed the approving nod from Gwrgi, he turned his attention back to the giant frog that still held him tight in its jaws.
"Seems like you’re not letting go of me that easily…" he growled, flashing a bloody grin. "Guess it’s true what Father always said: the best defense is a good offense!"
With a surge of defiance, he planted one foot firmly on the ground and raised his quarterstaff high.
"LET..." he roared, slamming the staff down onto the giant frog’s head with all his strength. "ME..." he shouted again, stomping down with his free foot into the creature’s side. "GO!" he bellowed, his voice echoing with fury as he stood his ground against the monstrous beast.
Tarton, successfully dodging the bullywug's and frog's attacks with moves that almost look like he's dancing smiles and says, "No axe nor bite will get me! You're as slow as - HOLY MOONBEAMS, that was close!!" Tarton just barely manages to escape being hit by the thorny vines thanks to the sound the whip like vines made as they came seemingly out of nowhere.
As he glances at what attacked him he finally hears Zladark's yells and sees the monk dangling from the frog's mouth. "Hang in there, Zladark! I'll help you out as soon as I take at one of these guys down!"
He thrusts his dagger at the frog, putting another hole in it's side. He then twists and attempts to stab the bullywug but timed the thrust wrong and stabs at thin air.
------------------------------------ Disregard the death saving throw in the logs; Tarton's AC is 17 but for a moment there I thought it was 16.
I’ve already been informed on how to join the log, by another dm. Also, it would seem that the software of dnd beyond has been upgraded? I no longer have to manually sign in to the log page. Unless, it’s still mot working on your end? Will try to fix that. I’ll need to pm you specifically Cameron about some updates to my current hardware and software specs at another time. Also, complete ditz that I am, have not been able to remember where I left off here in this campaign. And posting times for me might need to be adjusted due to the coming holidays. Anyway, ché sera, and have a good night. I will try to post my next turn by no later than November 23.
