The white-haired warrior nods grimly as the goblin shares his tragic tale. Obadiah could relate to losing family, all those that he loved, so he found himself feeling pity for the goblin. He then turns and explains the situation to the others in the common tongue. "This here is Wumgu, it seems the place we're looking for used to be his home. However, Zhentarim came there some time ago and slaughtered them all. Wumgu will show us a back entrance we can use to sneak up on the zhents. It's roughly ten of them, led by a fearsome half-orc. We will likely have to fight the zhents to find what we seek so we might as well help Wumgu get his revenge, unless we think we're better off trying to negotiate with the zhents." He says, looking around for the others' opinions.
Rash watches the whole exchange with absolutely no idea what's going on since he doesn't speak goblin... but at least the little creature didn't seem to be a threat. But then Obediah explains the situation and Rash almost wishes he hadn't.
"So, um... we're going to go fight one of my kin on behalf of a goblin?" the half-orc asks. "Not that I have any special love for orcs as a species... and it's entirely possible that the goblins were attacked by these Zhentarim... but I would personally take whatever the little guy is saying with a grain of salt. Also... I kind of have my doubts that we'll be able to beat all ten of them unless we use some really clever trickery or get extremely lucky."
Rash watches the whole exchange with absolutely no idea what's going on since he doesn't speak goblin... but at least the little creature didn't seem to be a threat.
"So, um... would someone mind clueing me in here?" the half-orc says to no one in particular.

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
Roxana watched, a little surprised by both Obadiah and Spira jumping into Goblin speech apparently. She watched, unable to really understand and kept an eye out for any possible ambush or other danger. (Perception:
After Obadiah explains and she hears Rash's reaction, she adds her own thoughts. "One way or another we have to find that place with the arched entrance. Guess I never thought about others being there that might prevent us from getting in. But a back entrance might be a big help." She pauses a moment, thinking it over. "I'd really rather not fight or negotiate with Zhentarim. We should do what we can to just avoid them! And yea, I know we might not be completely able to avoid them all."
She then turns to look at the goblin, speaking a little bit slowly in Common. "Do you understand Common? I wanted to thank you Wugmu for offering to help us."

A thing you know, as a native of Longsaddle, though I didn't remember to tell you sooner: the Harpells despise the Zhentarim, they are not allowed to base themselves in Longsaddle or conduct business there (not even the non-criminal part of their business).
"You're welcome, firebraids!" smiles Wumgu, speaking in Common "Yes, I can understand and speak Commmon. It will be a pleasure, to help those who can avenge the slaughter of my whole tribe!"
"I'm Roxana," she says to Wumgu. "But firebraids is a fine name too!," she adds with a grin. "Not sure how much avenging we'll do. But I certainly appreciate the help."

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Spira nods slowly; she suddenly looks rather grim. "Yes, I think the back entrance will be very useful, Wumgu.,:" she says, speaking now in Common. "Since the Zhentarim do outnumber us, we'll need to know as much about their position as we can find out without being discovered before we can decide what to do. And I think we really do have to do something" She turns to Rash.
"I don't know enough about wizardry to know if I"m on the right track here, but this news gets me very worried. We're told we can find the means to 'save' a dead man by going to a certain cave, and now we find there are Zhentarim there. What if those slavers have turned graverobber and are raising zombie slaves to sell that would cost them nothing to acquire? We had to deal with the excesses of the Berduskan arm of the Zhentarim once. That would be exactly the kind of thing I wouldn't put past them. Do you think it's at all possible, one; and two, if so, do you have any guesses how the bead might fit in? I'll think about what I know of holy magic and perhaps between us we can figure out some clue what to do when we do find that bead the second prophecy mentioned."
Rash shudders at Spira's questions... because they are very good ones.
"I... I don't know for sure, but I doubt it," he says after a moment's hesitation. "The main reason slavers don't go for sellin' zombies is 'cuz the undead have nasty tempers and a bad habit of gettin' out o' control if you don't bring 'em to heel regularly. One of my tribe's shamans made a zombie and forgot to re-enslave it... two kids got killed because of that damned fool before we put the thing down. But I've also heard rumors that some very powerful wizards can kill a man and bind his corpse to their service for all of eternity with a single spell... but if they have a mage powerful enough to do that, we ain't got a snow golem's chance in the Nine Hells of beatin' him. Still... by the same token I doubt a mage that powerful would be usin' his skills for something so crass."

"I'm glad you think it's unlikely. I didn't know about the control thing ... guess the slaver wouldn't want to stick around the whole time and control the thing, and if the buyer could do it they'd be able to raise their own zombies. Something arcane or deific is going on around here for sure though. I'll keep trying to think of anything I can remember that might help."

(OOC: Lol! I sense some lich experience whispering in Rash's ear!)
For Spira:
You don't quite know, at the moment, if arcane spellcasters can do it too (although from what Rash speaks, probably yes), but certainly the divine ones could reanimate dead bodies as zombies - as your half-orc pointed out, however, the problem of that procedure lies in the fact that even if the zombie continues its 'unlife' indefinitely from that moment on, the spellcaster must renew daily control over the undead ... or it will begin to act as it pleases. So, if an item (or a spellcaster, or a process) were giving the Zhentarim the power to create zombies in the way you know, they would have no way to sell them as 'eternal slaves'... at best, if they even had a way to renew control, they could simply keep them in their own service.
Obadiah couldn't quite understand why the tiefling and the half-orc were discussing whether the zhents had started raising the dead, it couldn't be ruled out but neither could a lot of other nefarious plans the zhents could have for that place and there was nothing to suggest zombies was a more likely threat than any other. It was likely that the zhents had come here looking for something though, maybe the same thing this group had. He already knew the zhent's numbers and was eager to move on and not staying vulnerable out in these hills. "Ready to move on then?" He asks impatiently.
"Yes, let's not just stand here. Do we know how to get to this place now? Thanks to Wumgu!" Roxana adjusts her pack and is ready to follow whoever knows the way. She isn't quite sure about the odd musings of the others, but it might be good to know what the Zhentarim are up to out here. "We can talk about details as we go."
Wumgu starts guiding you to the 'beatiful den' by choosing a route that passes through the dense forest area.
"Zhentarim here not very good at keeping watch. Wumgu several times managed to come back to check outside the beautiful den. But better not take any chances; let's go through the forest, so we're less visible".
The goblin leads you first to what looks like a large hole in the ground, about 20' in diameter (where I wrote 2).
"This is the secondary entrance!" he explains "At the bottom of the hole is a passage. And the passage goes to the beautiful den. At the end of the passage you have to climb a bit to get into the beautiful den. If Zhentarim have discovered the passage and are guarding it, going up will be difficult. But if they haven't discovered it, it's a way to surprise them! The passage had been dug by a large and stupid insect. But stupid insect dead. An insect so stupid that in digging it caused a piece of the beautiful den wall to collapse and it was crushed".
Wumgu then takes you a little west (where I wrote 1) and shows you a marble arch partially camouflaged with branches and leaves. However, the work was clearly done with little effort, therefore, both because it is winter and the barer vegetation hides less, and because you have the goblin pointing it out to you, already from a certain distance (30') you can see the 'marble arch'. In fact, it looks like the entrance to a passage that enters the bowels of the hill.
"This is the main entrance to beautiful den!" your goblin guide tells you, "It will be easier to get in here - but the Zhentarim sure guard this entrance. From inside, though. They never keep anyone out".
It took you about 25 minutes to get here and take a look at the two entrances.
"Am I the only one who thinks that maybe the smartest thing to do is try to thin their numbers by luring the guards into an ambush?"Rash asks as he considers the situation. "Once the first set of guards are dealt with, rinse and repeat until we've dealt with all of them or they catch on to what's happening..."

"What exactly do you propose Rash?" Roxana asks. "Draw them from the main entrance? How might we do that?" She pauses a moment, thinking over the situation. "I'd rather try to sneak in the secondary entrance. Maybe we could get in without any fighting. Or at least get an idea of what's inside."
It then occurs to her that Wumgu has been inside. "Could you tell us what the place is like inside?"she asks the goblin, glancing to Obadiah and Aidwyn, the two that speak goblin for help if necessary. "Is it just a single large cave? Several caves?"
The white-haired warrior found himself agreeing with firebraids, there was no telling how the zhents were going to react if they tried to lure them out, better use the advantage they already had, the secret entrance. "Can you draw us a map?" He says to the goblin, staying with common for now, looking over at the half-orc for a pen and parchment.
"Map?!" the goblin seems never to be thought of that "Wumgu can try. Wumgu no map expert, but can not be too difficult, Wumgu draws for you! All will be clear. Give scroll and quill to Wumgu!"
"Hmmm..." he mutters to himself in the meantime "Wumgu The Cartographer... doesn't sound too bad..."
(OOC: Well, assuming that someone pèrovides poor Wumgu with scroll and writing implements)
The goblin visibly strains his brain, trying to think, remember and draw at the same time. At the beginning his signs are a bit uncertain, but he gradually gains confidence and when he finishes the work he is even smiling, convinced that he has demonstrated his remarkable artistic skills: "Here is the first map that Wumgu has ever created! Beautiful, isn't it? All clear?"
'I agree its probably best not to tip off the Zhents to our presence unless and until we have to. And if there's ten of them, they're probably not going to have more than a third, three of them, as guards, and the rest may be split up into small groups in the lair. We might have to go through that first cave that Wumgu has marked 'Useless' though -- if we wanted to sneak up on the guards from behind, the passage from the eating cave looks shorter than the one directly from the hole. We'd be on them quicker, less chance of one glancing down the passage and seeing us." Spira turns to the goblin. "Thank you for the beautiful map, Wumgu. But do you remember anything else about the useless room between the hole and the room you eat in? If we have to sneak through there in the dark, it will help us to know what might be there so we can keep from making too much noise bumping into things.:
