Having seen as much as she thinks she can of the insect without making telltale noises, Spira checks the walls of the 10' x 10' area she is in to see if there are any crevices or other spots one of us could lurk and ambush any Zhentarim climbing down from the hole above. Once she has this information, she will carefully withdraw to report back to the rest of the party.

With her darkvision, Spira identifies a part of the body of the insectoid or some piles of stone blocks, as favorable spots to lurk and ambush any Zhentarim climbing down from the hole above. But whoever wanted to hide there would have to lie down... not a big deal, if the ambush succeeds (OOC: getting up simply costs half the movement - so the ambusher would be able to get up and attack, if they surprised the enemies), but if a Zhentarim were to notice the character and manage to attack them before they got up, the character would have difficulty defending (OOC: a target attacked in melee while prone is attacked with Advantage).
Roxana tries to judge whether she can stay at least partly in cover and get closer to the main entrance. If so, she'll continue to see if she can make out anything being said.
If there is no obvious cover, she will not risk it. Silently motioning to Obidiah to return, she would cautiously head back.

Roxana is already at the entrance... only way to advance further, it would be to enter the corridor. But no, no cover there. Only... well, a moment. The voices inside seem to be human. But human usually can't see in darkness. So they might be counting on the environmental light outside to detect intruders coming. So, if you crawl slowly and low, maybe they not spot you...
From the actual distance, Roxana can't understand what has being said. And the voices went silent, at the moment... maybe an agreement has been reached, inside.
OK, whatever was whispered in the dark, nothing prevents the furtive girl from coming back. She reaches Obadiah without problems... and both can return undisturbed to the tunnel of the insectoid and reunite with the others, if they want.

Spira takes an additional moment to judge how much cover someone in the ambush spots would have from being seen by the Zhentarim as they climb down, and then returns to confer.

Depends on the size of who's hiding... a medium sized creature will probably have 80-85% cover. It won't be easy to see, unless the observer has a good reason to look carefully at that spot.
Back at the secondary entrance, Roxana climbs back down to tell the others what she found. "I could make out a human voice. Clearly speaking to someone else. So at least two guarding the main entrance. Not much different than here." She gives a pause to see if Obadiah has any other comments, then adds. "Not necessarily helpful, but I noticed the marble arch had the symbol of the Harpells at the top. Could this place have once been a location for some sort of magical activities of theirs? Odd it would just be abandoned though."
"My opinion is we go with Spira's illusion plan. It seems that will give at least some element of surprise. Are we agreed?"
As she rejoins the others, Spira says, "It should at least give us that, and it might do even more. I managed to get close enough to see the rest of the layout and one of the guards, and I heard them speaking again. They don't seem well disciplined at all ... they were maundering on about all the fine gobble and guzzle they'll be able to buy with the money they'll make selling some poor unfortunates or other into slavery, and the one I saw is barely out of his boyhood.. And the insect that made this tunnel looks absolutely terrifying." She fills the group in on the additional details she's seen, and then goes on.
"One of us, at least, could hide behind the creature's carapace and one behind the stone blocks. If they stay down, it will be almost impossible for the Zhentarim to see them even as they're climbing down, and they could leap to their feet in a moment by pushing off against the floor. The rest of us can wait in the tunnel mouth just out of sight of the guards until they get down to the floor and it's too late -- IF they come. They may be so scared of the noises they hear that they abandon their posts and run. Easy enough then for us to climb up and find another shadowy corridor to hide in before they return. IF they return" She chuckles, then adds in a much quieter voice ... you're not sure if she's speaking to you or to herself. "I wish Gaer was with us though. Oh, I hope he got my message ... "

The tiefling certainly talked a lot and Obadiah was never a good listener. The white-haired warrior is not quite getting the finer points of the tiefling's elaborate plan but shrugs and nods, ready to follow any instructions given, hoping to fight the zhentarim soon now. He is a bit doubtful as there is mention of a zhent barely an adult, it didn't quite fit with what he heard about the members of Black Network and he sincerely hoped he wouldn't need to fight children, ever.
Sensing Obadiah's lack of enthusiasm, Spira says, "We don't have to make it that complicated, everyone could just wait in the tunnel mouth just out of sight. But I really think this is our best chance of catching the Zhents by surprise or even scaring them away long enough to get in. They're so overconfident in the back here they think its a waste of time having to guard it at all, that no one would come this way and they don't even need to bother paying attention!"
=============
EDIT: Moving quietly back to the end of the tunnel, Spira takes up a position where she can see the hole and fallen blocks, but the Zhents can't see her unless they climb down. She waits until everyone is in position and then acts.
Murmuring the all-too-familiar syllables in Infernal under her breath, she casts thaumaturgy thrice and begins the sequence to terrify their foes. With her first spell, she points a spot just under where the guards are standing and causes the ground to tremble. During the minute that their perch is shaking, she causes a rasping, grinding clatter to sound from a point on our level that is near the hole but hidden from the Zhentarim by the fallen blocks. Then, after a pause, she makes a loud, raspy hiss sound a little closer to the Zhentarim but still hidden by the blocks.
Roxana offers, "I will hide behind the creature's carapace. Will someone else try hiding behind the fallen stones? If some do come down this way we'll have a decent ambush."

Deception 20
Initially, feeling that their perch is shaking, the two guards begin to exclaim, out loud, surprised and a little scared:
"Hey, but what the f..." "What's going on? It must be an earthquake..." "Damn it! I don't want to get buried by a collapse to obey that idiot Mhurren..."
But then, hearing the rasping and grinding: "Downstairs! There must be a monster downstairs!" "B-but... W-what..." "Stop stammering, light one of our candles and throw it down the hole, you idiot! We have to at least see what it is!"
Spira, having darkvision, notices two figures leaning out of the hole: a scruffy-looking youngster appear, with a rudimentary headband that tries in vain to bring some order to a chaotic brown hair and an older but neglected man with untidy gray hair and beard.
The youngster is fiddling with a tinderbox and a candle, evidently intending to do as the other has asked him.
The loud, raspy hiss sound makes him jump and shiver, making it take longer than it should to light the wick.
"What are you waiting for, idiot!?" protests the other, clearly agitated "Do you want that the f...ing thing down there manages to come up and visit us? We must assess the threat and call for reinforcements!"
(OOC: If someone intends to act, please post - otherwise I will go on to tell what happens when the candle is lit. Only Spira sees the two, at the moment, since the others are behind and Roxana, who is near, lacks darkvision - but everybody hears what they are saying, since they are speaking concitated and aloud).
Hearing this and seeing the heads, Spira watches the two closely trying to predict their actions. If she thinks they would be likely to climb down and investigate after throwing down the candle and seeing nothing, she will ready guiding bolt to receive them with and wait. But if she thinks they would stay up top and call for reinforcements she will cast thaumaturgy again twice. In this case she will produce an even more venomous hiss, as of a creature scenting blood, and then rasping and clicking noises near the base of the stone blocks like it was trying to find its way up to the men above.

Insight 18
(Intimidation 8)
(OOC: Sorry about the quoting thing, hadn't noticed how annoying it was getting. Here's the pared down version, I'll go ahead and delete the other)
Spira has the impression that the two will definitely stay up top and call for reinforcements! Then, just as the boy finally manages to light his candle, the tiefling unleashes her magical powers once more, giving the impression of a predator trying to find its way up to the men above.
"Damned beast!" the voice trembles at the youngster, as he throws the candle down, in the direction of the noises. "Where did you throw the candle, idiot?!" the other rages, raising a hand almost as if to hit him "There's nothing there!" he narrows his eyes, looking around a bit "Where the heck is that beast going to be!?" "The noise came from there..." the younger one justifies himself "What do I do, should I launch another one?" "There's no point in wasting one candle after another!" the other mutters "Light one up here, instead, so you can see if the beast gets close to the hole! It will be another monster like that..." he points to what can be seen of the remains of the insectoid "Or maybe a smaller version, because otherwise we would see it better... It will be its offspring or something like that, hatched from its eggs... You stay here! I'm going to warn Mhurren and the others!" "What!? No, you stay!" protests the young man, clearly not satisfied with the division of tasks "I will go and warn Mhurren!" "Since when do you give me orders, idiot!?" the older one gets angry "I told you to stay here. And it will be really better for you if you listen to me".
Thus, although muttering something between his teeth, the younger one begins to try to light a second candle, to be kept near the hole as he has been told, while the older one begins to move away, evidently to warn this 'Mhurren' and 'the others'...
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Obadiah grimly nods at Roxana and tries his best to hide himself behind the fallen stones, ready with his blade drawn to finally fight the nefarious zhentarim.
As Rash listens, he can't help but feel his hope slowly drain out of him. One of the guards is going to get the rest of the zhentarim. Well, at least the party can take out one of these guys before the real fight. Hopefully the 'tunnel team' are wise enough to cut off the man's retreat.
"I can go ahead and go in first," Rash whispers to the others. "I can see in the dark... and if this guy is human, then he can't. That might be just the edge we need."
