Hahahaha! Looks like we’ll need a mirror, or an illusion of a mirror or something we can shine and throw across there to be a mirror. Hahahaha! Anyone have a metal shield they don’t want! Hahahaha! Or another way to get those flags!
Those empty suits of armor! We grab a bunch of the larger pieces. Shine them and Nim here has his blue friend carry them over one at a time and place them in such a way he can see one or more flags in the reflection! Hahahaha!
Tarysaa chimes in, "Thinking on this room and what is inside... from what I read, this Harpell was trying to 'grab power' from extraplanar beings. This room COULD be a cataloge of what he had exploited. OR, each of those tiles is a prison for a Being depicted. I don't think we need to release a dragon OR WORSE in this place. Then again, perhaps if we released a power of good?"
(( Would my arcane knowledge / university studies let me know what some of these creatures might be? ))
Tarysaa seems to go into a near trance and her eyes roll up in her head as she delves DEEP into her past studies at Silverymoon University. Sweat speckles her brow as she strains to pull forth even the smallest of knowledge that might shed light on what they are facing.
Hahahaha! That would be great Daisy! You crawl along the walls and bring each flag up into sight. Nim’s blue hand grabs them and brings them back. You then crawl back along the walls to us. Hahahaha! Daisy you just saved me from a day of spit shining. I’m buying you a drink when we get to a tavern. Hahahaha!
Tarysaa seems to go into a near trance and her eyes roll up in her head as she delves DEEP into her past studies at Silverymoon University. Sweat speckles her brow as she strains to pull forth even the smallest of knowledge that might shed light on what they are facing.
Tarysaa tries to remember every possible detail from lectures, optional courses, informal chats in the shade of gardens, books read, or at least leafed through, or even heard of; and here's something actually...
In the northernmost row, the creature in the center square, the beautiful humanoid-like creature with silvery skin, is almost certainly a celestial. Tarysaa is pretty sure she saw it in a miniature drop cap in a tome dealing with the Upper Planes.
Same for the creature in the middle row, east square, the muscular and hairless humanoid, with opalescent green skin and white-feathered wings, brandishing a great sword.
In the northernmost row, the creature in the east square, the hulking monster with a whip-like tail and enormous wings that it wraps around itself like a cloak, causes the front of the elf wizard to bead in cold sweat. It's a Pit Fiend, Tarysaa is sure! Unflappable as elves are usually, the demonology instructor had once terrorized the class, because the boys were not paying too much attention to the boring lesson, by pretending to summon one! Most of the students had fled screaming. Tarysaa, in the first bench, either hadn't had time to escape, or had been paralyzed by terror... the fact is that the details of the devil lord's appearance, since that day, have remained well impressed in her mind... Luckily it was just an illusion!
In the central row, the creature in the central square, the winged reptile, with four legs and a tail, with dark yellow scales with big metallic flecks, must be a dragon... Tarysaa remembers having seen it in an illustration in a tome called 'Draconomicon', leafing through it hastily before taking it to the professor who had sent her to fetch it from the library.
In the southernmost row, the creature in the western square, the muscular and handsome humanoid, regal in appearance and with white-feathered wings, holding a bow, while a greatsword floats by his side, must be a creature typical of Mount Celestia! She remembers having seen him depicted in a painting, entitled 'The Magic Mountain', which represented Mount Celestia, with its seven paradises.
In the southernmost row, the creature in the center square, the intimidating feral-looking humanoid, armed with a fork, sheathed in quite tough-looking scales and with huge wings, sweeping horns and a pointed tail, is definitely a fiend of some kind... Tarysaa recalls seeing it depicted in a stained glass window in a temple, in a scene meant to be a reminder of the punishments that await sinners.
Unfortunately, the other figures don't remind her of anything.

"That being stated, I have zero clue if this is a Harpell display case of these 'extraplanars' he captured/experimented on or if this is a puzzle of some sort.
Easy diagonal for dragons... and I DO speak Draconic. HOWEVER, there is no telling how angry / cranky the dragons might be 'upon awakening' / being freed. Personally, I would prefer testing anything out on the Celestials and I DO speak Celestial... HOWEVER, same as the dragons... no telling what mood they may be in. Though I would prefer some 'positive, helpful' interaction with a Celestial before chancing the dragons. And NOTHING will make me go near those FIENDS.
And there you go. Every drop I could remember from my studies and classes. And, I really have ZERO clue as to how to 'unlock' this thing. I suppose I could try an IDENTIFY ritual but... I don't know how useful that might be."
"Should I try to connect with the Celestial? If so, maybe AFTER you do the fancy bits to retrieve ... what we hope... are the purple flags?"
(OOC: Anyway, for the continued information provided based on her arcane studies, I grant Tarysaa also Inspiration. Our elf wizard really must have been a model student; probably the University of Silverymoon awarded her a scholarship 😉)
Clas beams as he addresses Tarysaa, "You did a fantastic job figuring out what those creatures might be, Tarysaa! Your insight is invaluable." His voice carries a note of admiration for her astuteness.
He then shifts his attention to the floor, his brow furrowing thoughtfully. "As for these symbols, let's err on the side of caution and avoid stepping on them for now."
With an air of determination, Clas continues, "I suggest we try to find these creatures face to face and see what kind of mood they're in. Maybe we can negotiate or reason with them if they're not too hostile. And if they are, well, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it! Hahahaha!" He flashes a confident smile at his companions.
The only thing to do now is wait for Daisy and Nim to do their thing. Hahahaha!
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Never underestimate the power of a finely crafted barrel, my friend! It is both a vessel of strength and a symbol of resilience.
Daisy listens as the wizard spouts off her derth of knowledge. "Well, that college you went to sure did teach you all kinds of stuff, huh?" she says, clearly impressed. "So, I guess I'll see what I can get ba k there then."
The dwarf then gets down on all fours. Course, brown hair shoots from her skin. Two more pairs of spindlely legs sprout from her abdomen; her natural appendages changing to a similar shape. Her eyes turn dark black and smaller orbs pop from around her head. The giant wolf spider skitters up the wall and into the room, moving to the back wall.
The monstrous spider walks along the wall without difficulty... but suddenly, something totally unexpected happens: five shining energy darts suddenly shoot from one of the squares near the wall, which immediately swoop down on Daisy from all sides, tearing her carapace and injuring the underlying skin!
Under the horrified eyes of those present, the spider, struck to death, transforms itself back into the form of the dwarf... who, partially wounded, falls very undignified on the nearest square with a dull thud.
OK, west square of the central row, the one with the a giant bipedal insect, with clawed hands and feet, powerful mandibles, and a long tail covered in razor-sharp spikes.
"By the barrels!" Clas exclaims, as he drops his pack to the floor.
Without hesitation, Clas moves to the west wall and jumps over the five-foot intervening north row space, landing beside the wounded Daisy. He swiftly and gently picks her up, his robust build making the task seem effortless. With a powerful leap, he jumps back over the north wall to his original position, setting Daisy down carefully for the others to attend to her wounds. Clas doesn't waste a moment, he leaps again over the intervening north row space, landing deftly on the spot Daisy had fallen, then leaps the south row. His eyes scan the area behind the short wall quickly, and when he spots the coveted purple flags, he seizes them firmly.
He retraces his steps, leaping back over the intervening spaces only landing on the spot where Daisy had fallen, avoiding all the other spaces. Clas returns to the party. "Let's press on. Anyone who can help Daisy should do so. And for you Daisy, you still saved me a day's worth of spit shining, so I'm still buying you a drink. But you certainly did it in the most unexpected way. Hahahaha!" Clas puts his pack on his back and heads off for the stairwell.
Daisy lies stunned, eyes wide staring up at the ceiling for a moment having been hit by the barrage of magical darts.
"Ouch! Well, that didn't go so w-...!"The dwarf suddenly finds herself scooped up in Clas's arms. "Wha- what are ya doin'!? I can walk just fine! Thank you very much!"she exclaims once deposited like a sack of grain in the hall outside the room. She gets up and dusts herself off in a huff. In doing so she feels a spot on her neck where the last dart hit. She gingerly probes the reddened patch of skin.
"Well, maybe there's a clue somewhere else in these halls that'll give us an idea what's going on with these things."
(OOC: Did the darts come from one of the squares with a creature? Is the bipedal insect figure tangible? She would have tried touch it before Clas jumped in.)
(OOC: @Daisy: The darts came from one of the squares with a creature, the one you landed in. The bipedal insect figure tangible is not tangible... it really seems to be a mere illusion).
Clas leaps with a remarkable athletic gesture, catching Daisy in the air - yielding to the evidently irresistible call that damsels in distress make for fearless heroes.
Unfortunately, however, when the warrior jumps back to return to his original position... he too is targeted by a volley of magical energy darts, this time originating from the square he is 'flying over' (the one with the winged reptile, with four legs and a tail, with white scales fading to transparency and shimmering with radiant energy)!
It might work, but you'd need to see the item you wish to grasp with your (magical) hand...

Daisy follows the others back to the room with the small, floating figurines.
"Uh, fly. No," she replies to Clas. "But I could change into something that can walk along the walls."
