Krackle lets out a small sigh of relief when the drake collapses. Once the immediate threat has gone, the kobold adjusts the dragon egg strapped to his chest and then quickly follows behind Zeds, hoping to regroup with his companions.
The party is now in U. I will assume someone closed the door once the party is in.
Everyone hears the door to the Dining Hall open and the sound of footsteps. You hear "Come here drake. Take us to whoever hurt you" It is spoken in clean unbroken common and that of a man's voice. The sound of steel blades unsheathing can be heard.
You can hear the sound of the Green drake's clawed feet coming closer.
(Can we make out if it is a human voice? Lizardfolk? Bullywug? Pschotic cannibalistic halfling??)
Once everyone is inside the door Zeds will shut it and go to work trying to lock it. If possible. Be it the classic piece of timber across a couple of brackets or using his thieve's tools to try to anti-pick the lock... (Thieves Tools: Nat 1+8 for 9...) "That should hold them off," Zeds says confidently. "Nothing to worry about."
anti-pick the lock... (Thieves Tools: Nat 1+8 for 9...) "That should hold them off," Zeds says confidently. "Nothing to worry about."
((OOC: I guess that's Zeds's action in round 9?))
As Zeds works, Ixsas casts Guidance on him. After he casts his spell, Ixsas unfortunately distracts Zeds with a stream of loudly whispered questions: "Should we also pile some of the furniture in front of the door or maybe wedge it closed with spikes? If the door does not hold them, do you want to try to trick them with your dragon mask? Send them to the Outer Ward?"
Glancing at the spiral staircase, he says, "Or do you want to just race upstairs? But I'll warn you that I heard bootsteps from upstairs, and there was a tipped chair here. I think that someone already went upstairs either to defend the tower or to warn Dralmorrer." Ixsas is thinking that, without Serge, maybe their best bet is to take the second floor quickly. The spiral staircase should allow them to defend the top of the stairs while only having to face one (melee) opponent at a time. The bullywugs shouldn't find it so easy to jump up a spiral staircase and into the room.
Movement: Moving 5-ft to the door to cast a spell on Zeds. Then moving away from the door and back to the stairs. If Zeds and Krackle vote for going upstairs, he may even be able to make it all the way to the 2nd floor this round. Action: Cast spell Guidance on Zeds to boost his Thieves' Tools check. That's a bonus of +4 for a total of 13. Hopefully, that's enough to lock the door! Free Action: Talking
Thrax and Seraphina are chained to thick metal rings set into the wall. The chains are long enough they can move about the room though they cannot reach beyond the stone arch that leads to the guardroom. The flagstone floor is uneven, and lichen growths can be seen between the cracks. There is a single bucket in the corner to be shared by the prisoners. The air is stifling and the only light spills in from the stone archway that leads to the guardroom.
Guardroom.
wooden table, lit lantern, well-worn dice, mismatched stools. The 2 guards that usually dwell here left in a hurry though they did not forget to lock the room and to take the key with them. There just out of reach are your gear on the far side of the guardroom with clear signs of being rummaged through by the guards and few rations eaten.
the 2 guards were dressed strangely, and they spoke little beyond their daily gripes.
Zeds curses as he tries and fails to turn the lock but he's not ready to give up yet? "Just give me a moment," he grumbles to Ixsas as he digs through his tools to find the long prod with the curved end so he can reach beyond the one nail that seems to be blocking him.
(Zeds will try again to use his tools to lock the door. Up to DM if this is something I can try again or not though... Was the fail for that turn or was it this lock itself stumped me totally or did the nat 1 mean I broke the lock entirely or...? IF I can try again then 2nd try: 8+8 for a 16...)
While continuing to fiddle with the lock Zeds suggests Ixsas check out upstairs, if we're fighting on both sides best know about it as soon as possible...
She had been quiet at first, her large golden innocent eyes studying her surroundings, seemingly pondering her fate, or rather plan, of being captured by these followers of the evil queen of dragons. She wore thin flowing luxurious garments, more fitting in a court or in a temple, but her presence was one of almost divine radiance. Eventually she had turned to the chained red dragonborn beside her with an innocent look, but it took an effort of will to not avert your eyes as she looked directly at you. "I am Seraphina, a servant of the Moonmaiden. Who are you and what did you do to be chained here with me?"She asks with a gentle melodious voice. There is what seems to be an unintentional aloofness there, but beyond the innocent eyes there is a hint of divine resolve for a holy quest.
Smoke rises in plumes from the nares of the dragonborn. His scales are a deep, lustrous ruby, marred only by pale scars strewn here and there across his massive frame. Only a few inches short of 8 feet tall, he is a musclebound behemoth, his bulk casting a large shadow in the cell where he has been housed.
Since his capture, he has tested his manacles for weak links that might bend or break under his formidable strength. He has found no joy in this venture, and has instead chosen to take the time to quietly recuperate after the lizardfolk and bullywug ambush that rendered him captive. The attempt at meditation does not appear to have been successful - if anything, he has only stewed in brooding contempt for himself and a burning rancour for his jailers.
When Seraphina calls out to him, the dragonborn takes a moment to respond. At last he opens his eyes, the inner membranes beneath each lid parting horizontally before a slitted, yellow reptilian gaze settles on her face. "Hrmgh." He grunts, his voice bassy and resonant. "Thraxinthos Vargharion. Captured on the road. Searching for followers of the Dragon Queen. Searching for answers."
Most people would probably wince at being so close to the clearly powerful and quite intimidating red dragonborn but for some reason the blonde girl seems naïvely calm at his presence. "I see..." The blonde girl says quietly, briefly pondering the implications of what the dragonborn had shared. "...well it is good to meet you Thraxinthos Vargharion..." she continues after a moment, clearly making an effort of politeness to correctly pronounce the other's name. "I myself am here to put an end to the machinations of the followers of the Dragon Queen. I get the sense that you are not one such follower yourself. Perhaps we might even share a common interest in this?" She says quite plainly with a friendly smile to her massive cell mate, still seeming peculiarly calm about being imprisoned by those she seeks to oppose. "Do you know anything about where we are and what they do here?" She adds after a moment.
((OOC: I think that we're still waiting for Krackle's action to finish off round 9 in scene 1. If he's not helping Zeds at the door, maybe Krackle could check the other door on the 1st floor? I don't think that Zeds would want to keep Krackle on the 1st floor until he finishes trying to lock the door next round: if Zeds fails, he'll probably need Krackle to use a bonfire to discourage the guards from pouring through the door.))

((OOC: Based on that response from Zeds, I think that we can say that after casting Guidance in round 9, Ixsas left it to Zeds to lock the door while he used the remaining 20-ft of his movement to warily climb up the spiral stairs until he can see who or what is on the 2nd floor.))
Perception: 8 - if needed to see / hear what's waiting for him on the 2nd floor
Reaction: If Ixsas is going to be hit in some sort of ambush, he'll use Warding Flare to impose disadvantage on the attack.
Action: Listening at the door to room U. If he can both cast Guidance and listen in one turn then he'll do that. Otherwise, he'll skip the spell and just listen. Perception: 8, or if he was able to cast Guidance, add a +1 bonus to get 9
Indeed, Ixsas is rather distracted as he walks to the top of the spiral stairs and see this chamber is a combination sitting room and office, and a small hearth along the western wall that provides heat. A writing desk, a large, padded chair, and a bench are drawn up near the hearth.
He sees 3 cultists without masks and an half-elven man with an eye patch in a battle-ready stance. Indeed, this is an ambush.
Serge is gone now.
Ixsas hears the soft scrape of boots upstairs. You hear nothing from V. There is no easy way to lock the door. There is a keyhole though.

Zeds can make out its most likely a human. There is no bar though there is a keyhole, and you try to lock but fail to do so.

The failed attempt was this rounds action. To try again you need to wait for the next round.
