(Honestly, I think I lost track of movement somewhere in all the double checking and clarifying and such. Yes, it was Zeds intention to keep up with Thrax so they would face whatever together, more or less. Thrax actually has 40' of movement though so if Thrax used full movement then Zeds would have needed to use BA to dash and keep up. If Thrax used more than his full movement (used his action to move another 40', say) then Zeds would have had to have used his action as well and thus wouldn't have had an action to ready... But it's messy and I leave it to DM's discretion on where we are and what movements were used... To complicate things more though, if Zeds did use movement, BA dash AND action dash to keep up with Thrax, I believe he would still get an attack off as an Attack of Opportunity when the gargoyle left melee? Unless they have a feature that allows them to disengage or such? A readied attack uses up your reaction though so he could not use the readied attack AND AoO...)
(Made the changes. Thrax full 40ft movement - See Dralmorrer behind the telescope. Zeds BA Dash - Ready action - no Opportunity attack. Gargoyles do not have Flyby feature)
Ixsas is surprised when he seems movement from above and then sees that the statues (gargoyles) have come to life and are flying down to attack! He tries to dodge out of the way, but the one closest to him lands heavily on the floor next to him and immediately bites down on his shoulder, piercing him through his armor with its stone jaws. He screams -- but focusing on his defense -- barely manages to keep his shield between him and the creature's raking claws. He feels dizzy from the pain, but he maintains concentration on his spell. CON saving throw: 15 (in game log) - maintaining concentration
As the heavy, stone gargoyles manage to fly back into the air (somehow!) and momentarily out of reach, Ixsas moves to the side (map-left) to check on his companions. Seeing the dragonborn's massive body on the ground, Ixsas immediately calls out a spell of healing and then shouts, "Thrax, Zeds! Finish Dralmorrer, and then let's get out of here!"
Then Ixsas moves back to the stairs and the the gargoyle hovering above them. He snarls, "Even creatures of stone will melt in the Kossuth's final flames!" He casts a spell at it, surrounding the creature with the sounds of a cremation pyre and the cold finality of ash.
Movement: Ixsas moves 15-ft off of the stairs to get a clear view of Thrax. Once he heals Thrax, Ixsas uses his remaining movement to return to the top of the stairs where he can block the gargoyles from getting to Seraphinawithout blocking her view of the third floor. Action: Cast spell Crackling of the Final Flames WIS 15 save or Gargoyle-Orange takes damage: 19 (Necrotic) since it is not at its max HP. Bonus Action: Cast spell (LVL 1 slot) Healing Word on Thrax, Healing: +6 Free Action: Talking
(Just going with how things are set up now as it seems totally reasonable...)
"The statues are alive!" Zeds calls out even as that is proving to be true. He doesn't think the warning will be in time to help anyone but he's just not really thinking much at the moment anyway. He lets out a grunt of pain as the damnable statue bites him but he does manage to dodge enough to avoid the follow up with the claw.
"Drally's not on this side!" he further calls out. The others trailing can decide for themselves if that means they want to go to this side of the huge contraption or not.
"This way," he says to the Dragonborn and continues to circle the contraption counter-clockwise until he does see Dralmorrer. He has his short swords out as he wasn't expecting flying combatants and they're currently out of his range, and hopefully he out of theirs, so finding Dralmorrer still seems the most prudent option. He moves around the contraption until he sees his target and then he keeps moving... Zeds moves to engage with Dralmorrer and then shifts position, staying engaged, until Zeds is on the eastern side of them. (I believe this is within Zed's movement allotment and it will hopefully give Thrax flanking when he moves in to combat.)
Movement: to get to Drally and then shift to his other side Action: Short Sword Attack - 13or 22to hit for 10 piercing damage. Bonus Action: Other Short Sword Attack - 14or 25to hit for 7 damage. Sneak Attack - PLUS 8 additional damage if one of this hit the target...
((Edit to add: Didn't realize Thrax will have fallen and been healed, but wouldn't have changed anything except for some of the wording of what I did and why...))
(((Edit again to adjust since Drally is dodging...)
Not having a full view of the battlefield above, Seraphina still realizes the situation for them was once again desperate as the grotesque statues now came down at them from every corner of the room. She could only hope the red dragonborn and the rogue would hold out til she and the kossuthan had fought their way to their position, again unleashing moonfire on the closest statue.
Thrax crumples to the ground after being raked by stone claws, and having his already tattered scales gnawed upon by the gargoyles. He falls with a groan of agony, but before the inviting blackness of unconsciousness can fully take him, he is summoned back to his feet by the Kossuthan priest's healing magics coursing through him. Tendons find bone once more, organs knit together, and the great dragonborn groggily rises to his feet.
The world seems queasily unsteady and the back of his skull throbs with a pounding headache, but when he sees Zeds courageously tangling with Dralmorrer, Thraxinthos is inspired to follow. "Coward!" He bellows and turns his axe upon the apparent leader of his captors.
MOVEMENT: 5ft to attack Dralmorrer. ACTION: Attack with Greataxe. To hit: 15 Damage: 15 Extra Attack. To hit: 8 Damage: 18 BONUS ACTION: None. OTHER: Flanking. No reckless attack. No point in using Rage, since Thrax is surrounded, and his low AC and low HP mean he's already extremely likely to go straight back down and waste it. Better to just be an action/reaction sponge to absorb some gargoyle attacks, I guess?
Ixsas's Crackling of the Final Flames spell seems to scorch and crack the stone skin of the gargoyle (orange), and then Seraphina's spell finishes it off. Despite the desperate situation, he can help but glance back at her and say, "Ha! These stone demons cannot withstand the combined fire of Kossuth and the Moonmaiden!"
Krackle slips past Ixsas onto the third floor to blast the three remaining gargoyles with a Fireball. Reveling in the little dragon-kin's fire, Ixsas says, "Good job, Krackle!" But then, one of the gargoyles swoops down on Krackle, and another lands next to Zeds and clamps its jaws on him!
((OOC: I believe that Zeds just dropped to 0 HP after the Gargoyle-Blue's attack. I'm going to go with that so that everyone is unblocked.))
Dralmorrer seemed severely injured after his Fireball downstairs, and he thought that they could finish him off quickly and get back downstairs. Maybe Dralmorrer is using his wizardry to ward off attacks? But since the gargoyles are the ones doing all of the damage, he decides to focus on finishing off more of them before they can do any more damage. Ixsas worried about Krackle, but he knows that the little Kobold is tougher than he looks, so he focuses on the gargoyles that are attacking Zeds.
Bonus Action: Cast spell (LVL 1 slot) Healing Word on Zeds, Healing: +8 Movement: None. Remaining at the top of the stairs, blocking the gargoyles from getting to Seraphina, unless she wants to pass him up onto the 3rd floor. (He can see the opponents that he wants to target this round.) Action: Cast spell Crackling of the Final Flames at Gargoyle-Green, WIS 15 save or "green" takes damage: 19 (Necrotic) Free Action: Talking
Reaction: The first time it looks like one of the gargoyles is going to hit Ixsas, he'll use Warding Flare to impose disadvantage on the attack.
Zeds is struck down by the second Gargoyle to attack him, first with a vicious bite attack and then a claw scourging across his already limp body. (2 failed death saves from hit.)
Zed's Turn: Death Saving Throw: Nat 20
Zeds falls... But he gets back up again. They're never gunna keep Zeds down! Or so he hazily tells himself as he reclaims his swords and his feet.
