I am totally up for working with someone to develop a relationship. I am pretty active on this site so I would love someone else who is active that I could RP conversations with! Assuming I get picked for the campaign that is :D
Backstory: Amery Waylen was born and bred on a farm with 3 siblings somewhere in the middle of nowhere. The nearest neighbor was a mile away. He could not wait to come of age to chart his own path out of the boonies. As a kid he dreamed of city life and the goings on in such a place. As young man he left home and headed into the nearest city. Worked as laborer, then as a porter, then as scapegoat for a criminal. Lost a year of his life in prison and decided to become a lawman. Unfortunately, his record banned him from such a profession. He stumbled into a job at Bryashe private agency or maybe they found him. He was taught how to keep on eye on people and defend himself. Madolfis the gnome inventor, also called Maddie, was in charge of the agency weapons. He created a new weapon a pistol using forged metal and gunpowder. This edge gained the agency the best jobs working for the rich and powerful.
Amery did not have the heart to tell his folks and siblings what he actually did for a living. He lied in his letters saying he was a lawmen and kept in touch with his siblings as they also moved to different places, well except the eldest who became a farmer. The letters stopped coming from his half-sister Vera who lived in Withermore. Dark thoughts filled his mind, and he could not stand it anymore. He took a leave of absence and decided to check in on his sister.
Greatest Fear: Loss of family. They are center of his world in his mind.
Darkest Desire: To garner power and wealth to turn his lie into a truth. He will be a lawman and not just any lawman the chief himself.
Background: Investigator (Van Richten, not the city guard variant)
Backstory:
Rain... It was raining that day... It always seemed to be raining. The world was smaller back then. There was the orphanage, my room and, if it ever stopped raining, the garden. I liked the garden. It added a splotch of colour to the drab of the walls. I was in my room when she called. Miss Esther. She was harsh. I guess anyone responsible for running the sinking ship we called home would turn harsh eventually. But I liked her. When the rain passed and flowers were placed around the rooms, she would smile. She had a beautiful smile. But it was raining that day and there were no flowers.
'You're of age now, Sandu, so I'm not going to mince words.' Miss Esther used her stern voice. The voice she reserved only for the gravest of things. Like the cook skimping on vegetables. Or Susie taking cookies from the top shelf. It meant she was angry. That's what I thought at first. Only later did I learn it meant she was disappointed. Like she was now. 'You've outgrown the system. We can no longer afford to keep you. I'm sorry.' She sounded distraught. I believed her. She handed me a piece of paper. It detailed everything there was to know about me. It barely filled half a page. The other thing she handed me was a tiny silver raven dangling from a silver chain. It was the only thing I had when they had found me on the steps. She had held on to it for all these years. Anyone else would have immediately sold it but it was mine, Miss Esther said, and therefore it was my choice to do with it what I desired. That was all. A slip of paper to keep me out of jail and a piece of jewelry. That was all there was to my person. I would have laughed if I wasn't crying. I hugged Miss Esther. She did not expect that. She hugged me back. It was the most warmth I ever felt. I left her office. There was little anyone could do. I had until the end of the week to collect my things and say goodbye to everyone. I left before the sun had risen. It was raining that day...
I poured myself another another shot. ''You like that one?' I asked with a sly grin. 'I got a million of them. Every scheme a new scene.' I downed my drink. 'That one's a classic, you know.' I got myself another drink.
'If we're going to be partners, you ought to tell me something true about yourself.' Lulu saw my smile and raised me one of her own. I don't know if she knew or not but that damn smile could melt the stones off a dwarf. The thimble cup certainly added an extra touch.
'I was raised by my aunt and uncle until, when chance came, a kindly stranger informed me about my destiny as one of the last-'
'That's a lie.'
'I fought in the war but when a spell went awry, I got frozen in a block of ice for over more than-'
'Another lie.'
'I swore vengeance upon the criminal underworld when a mugger killed my parents in a-'
'Lie~ie.'Lulu said in her characteristic singsong reply. She gulped down the last drops in her thimble and smacked her lips with gusto. For someone the size of my shoe she sure could pack it away. I hated to admit: as much as the church forced her on me, she had a little je-ne-sais-quoi, like the elves are wont to say, that endeared her. Oh, she still was as much a pain in my ass as her needle like sword was sharp, but I could have done a hell of a lot worse. I finished my drink. It left a bitter aftertaste. I couldn't remember the last sweet drink I poured down my gullet. Sweetness was a luxury. As was working alone.
'You better get some sleep. Delilah said we had a new job.' I took the timble from Lulu, dropped it in my glass and put both on the table. Delilah: as if one babysitter wasn't enough, they had to give me another. At least Delilah was just mission control. I don't know what she did but getting paired with me must mean she has one hell of a debt to pay off. Wouldn't be all bad if I weren't her first "mortal": explaining the concept of sleep isn't fun, especially when you're roused from it in the middle of the godsdamned night.
'Where are we going?' Lulu asked before crawling into my vest pocket: her favourite sleeping spot. Apparently body heat was better than a blanket. I wouldn't know: warm blankets are for people with regular paychecks and no craving for happy juice.
'Withermore.' I replied. I stretched, yawned and settled into the chair that was my bed. 'Quaint little town. Meeting up with some old acquaintances.' I pulled my hat over my eyes. 'Grew up there, you know.'
The last sight I saw was Lulu peeking at my quizzically from inside my vest. 'That's... true?'
Greatest fear: Dying alone and forgotten, with nothing to my name, no legacy to leave behind, and no one to mourn me, that in the grand scope of history it does not even matter whether I lived or not.
Darkest Desire: To be free of the debt that ties his to the church and his patron or, failing that, to let go of his need to know.
Side note: Your character CAN have connections to Withermore and/or someone who vanished. However, you can NOT have been in the town when the disappearances began or before the start of this campaign. --> Kalgren would regard any party members as old acquaintances. I am open to suggestions.

Backstory (Condensed as much as possible): Ever since the young Fire Genasi warrior's witnessed, the long, difficult path he chose to take altered him both physically and mentally. Despite his dark past, Rixian quickly developed from a conquest-seeking paladin into one of the deadliest and vengeful warriors ever known in the Sword Coast, with a physical and mental prowess matched only by the mightiest gods he managed to conquer such as Lolth and Tiamat. After the latter's fall however, the paladin of Vengeance still feels incomplete. Even when surrounded by his friendly and understanding teammates that he battled alongside over the years, there's a painful sensation clutching onto his heart; A personal duty left incomplete it seems, that almost consumed the last of his humanity. Not wanting to be a burden on his team and the rest of Neverwinter Jungle, the location he resides in, Rixian left silently, without a trace, in fears that one day, the stone in heart would prove uncontrollable. Faced with regret and sorrow, the young paladin aimlessly wandered across different planes, expending a lot of energy to make portals that transports him to who-knows-where, in hopes that he himself, would be able to finish the job. He just needed something to investigate... something... that wuold lead him closer to success...
And now, he's here, winding up in the sorrowful town of Withermore, after hearing that the majority of its citizens have vanished. Or was it just a sheer coincidence, seeing that he wanted to make sure his vengeance is satisfied? Either way, it would be ok if he made new friends whilst in the town itself right? Or so he thought... Constantly assuming that his sworn enemy's the one behind all of this, he's hoping to eliminate one last threat that would otherwise consume the last of his gentle soul... or die trying.
Greatest fear: Allowing his long-term nightmares, which was the destruction of the Fire Genasi clan that raised him due to water elementals, to remove his gentle soul and turn him into a bloodthirsty monster.
Darkest Desire: To avenge his fallen family members by finding the villainous monsters who were responsible for his past trauma

Backstory: A child from a cursed village. That is what Mizu is. His last memory of home was fleeing atop the Great Wall encircling his village, his mother towing him behind her while his father took up the rear. It all happened shortly after the chief's brother usurped the thrown, killing all who opposed him with the dark curse he'd inherited from some unknown entity. Of course, Mizu couldn't tell what the curse was, all he knew was that it transformed his people into monsters. He'd grown up there, in a small clan of air genasi. His father was a noble, who'd married a water genasi for what most assumed was political reasons--but that didn't change the fact that they loved each other. Regardless, this meant that when Mizu inherited his mother's water element he was somewhat alienated for his differences, but there were a few who he called friends. Not that it matters now. They are all dead or turned. His father was supposed to meet that same fate, to receive some sort of gift or initiation after the usurper took over. They had thought that if they kept their heads down then they could be safe, that they could keep Mizu safe, but they were wrong. And to accept such a 'gift' was a line that father would not cross. So they fled, the night before the ceremony was held, they chose to run. Unfortunately the only one who made it out was Mizu. Mother threw him from the wall, seeing it as his only chance of escape as father fought off the creatures. Their attempt at escape had not gone undetected, and it cost both of his parents their lives--as far as he knows anyways. He remembers being thrown from the wall and running, the one glance back he risked revealing only the monsters pursuing him. He ran through the snow until he couldn't run any further, and he collapsed. He thought he was going to die, only to watch the snow around him melt before being lifted from the ground by strong arms.
That is how he meant his mentor, and ever since then he's been training to overcome the evil that took his family and his home. He is only fourteen now, but he's been training since he was nursed back to health by the fire genasi he calls his master. Now he finds himself at the town of Withermore, this is his first test. But it seems he won't be doing it alone.
Greatest Fear: That he will succumb to the same fate as the rest of his village, losing his sense of self. That he will fail in stopping the same disaster from befalling other villages.
Darkest Desire: To wipe out the demons that once were his people, and eradicate the new chief and his family... and not just kill him, but make him suffer through the same pain he imposed on the rest of the village.
Kulogall grew up on the Moonshae islands, on Alaron. His father was killed in battle when he was very young, he was raised by his mother Alestra. He has a younger brother, Xolo and they were extremely competitive from a young age, always vying for their mother's attention. Kulogall discovered that he had the ability to make things happen, magically, from his early teens. He would concentrate, focus and manipulate the weave and create light, or fire when he wished. His younger brother was jealous of his abilities, as he could never do these things. Xolo studied and studied, but was much slower in the progression of his skills, but eventually became adept in manipulating the weave as well, through studying many books. Kulogall could always throw a spear farther, run faster, and... produce magic easier than Xolo could. Once a small band of orcs landed near their village and Kulogall and Xolo fought to drive them off, with the aid of the town watch they protected their home. They developed a telepathic bond, and could speak to each other if they were within a mile of each other.
But time passed, and their rivalry became stronger and stronger until they would no longer speak to each other, just taunt each other in their minds. Xolo resented Kulogall's natural abilities and left their town, never to be seen again. There was a rumor of a Triton Wizard who made his way to Baldur's Gate and beyond who became very powerful, he had hooked in with the darker elements of the large town, pushing people around and looking for more ways to exert his power and influence. Kulogall meanwhile used his abilities and sought his fortune, he was viewed as a "lucky charm" to the crew of any ship that will hire him. Captains said that he had the ability to bring the wind and could have powers to calm storms, lift fog, and he was sought after. He joined the City Watch (Coast Guard) of Alaron, but as he heard more and more tales of adventures across the sea, so he took passage on a ship to cross the sea, and that is where he met his friend, Mina Holminion and he learned about Withermore. He hears rumors that his brother might have passed through there or was seen there, so he will accompany her to look for him, and shed light on any other mysteries there.
Greatest Fear - That my brother will overcome me and destroy me and all that I have attempted to do, and ruin our family name. Additionally, the fear of an unrealized, half lived life, with untapped potential.
Darkest Desire - To become the most powerful sorcerer from the Moonshae Isles and to use my magic and power to turn my brother away from darkness and keep him from ruining the legacy of our family, whatever that requires. Even unto death if needed.
Thanks! And you are right, I forgot that - - updated. Would be glad to collaborate with anyone else as well for a backstory -
I am open to collaborate.
My character has a 3 year gap from his time enlisted. Can work out how we've connected during that time somehow? Potentially my squadron during deployment have acquired your services for a voyage and we've bonded on-board, both being magically-inclined casters. How would that feel for your character?
Omen (Wreckzors) and Kit (me) have a recent joint history in Baldur's Gate (or a similar analog if the DM prefers) but both of our characters traveled (separately) before that, if anyone wants to collaborate with either or both of us on some additional backstory.

Great Character concept Twombley! I see that you've collaborated with Stark which is awesome.
However your Application is missing two things!
Greatest Fear and Darkest Desire

Can DM me if interested, can go into specifics :)
Just FYI, Rynn: Aroc and I are thinking of building some backstory together :)

@Everyone
Omen (Wreckzors) and Kit (me) have a recent joint history in Baldur's Gate (or a similar analog if the DM prefers) but both of our characters traveled (separately) before that, if anyone wants to collaborate with either or both of us on some additional backstory.
@Weathervision ☝️
I see Amery is another city dweller and investigator. There might be a good connection there with Omen, either as colleagues or rivals.
Plus, from a mechanics standpoint, fighter, rogue, bard isn't a bad trio for an adventuring group.
Yes, that is true, that they could be competitors in the same business where we cross paths often. I will say Amery knows of Omen.
