With a roll of 13, you vaguely recall overhearing a group of inebriated patrons refer to something similar while staying at the Edge of the East. A shrewd half-scavenger-half-predator, they had muttered and shaken their heads, which is able to adjust its 'hunting' tactic based on its current prey. Allegedly, these birds have learned to lure in humans and humanoids who traverse the Mermosan Marsh with their bright plumage before stealing their face coverings and leaving them to choke to death in the vile, toxic mists. They proceed to pick the corpses apart. The thing lies with wings splayed on the icy deck, twitching.
"I heard about these things... These birds try to steal your masks and then wait for you to choke to death on the toxic mists..." The kobold would say as he poked the creature with his dagger. 'Then once your dead, they make a meal out of you." He would add before wiping the tip of his blade on a few of the creatures feathers. Mender would then look to the pup... wondering how well it was doing breathing in the air...
"I already poked it a few times..." Mender would reply as he continued to poke it with his dagger. "Maybe the pup wants it as a snack.. hopefully the toxic air doesn't bother him too much... Otherwise he SHOULD be able to breath underwater if that would be better for the wolf."
With a perception of 6, a small bug bite below your left eye currently hinders your focus on the horizon - and besides, this watery stretch is hardly goblin territory. You suppress an internal sigh as you wonder how much longer this journey will take.

Mimzy...
The others are directly behind and below the broom. You did not miss a detail of Kaelroc and Mender's interaction with the bird and can hear them debating what should be done with the corpse.

Mender...
The cub is a step ahead, already sniffing at the remains of the dead bird. Even if you wanted to it is doubtful you would have been able to restrain him, at least not without a struggle. With a whimper, he pins a feathered wing under his meaty paw and begins to tear it apart. Despite the evident pain caused by various maladies, the pup is wagging his tale.
~~
All...
The hours stretch on. Small accidents are inevitable (several misleading junctions have lead into dead-end bayous, and more than once has the wolf cub played too rowdily with his goliath friend causing the raft to nearly capsize) but these do not slow your progress noticeably. Frequently, you are startled by violent silver flashes below the surface of the water, nearby splashes and the sudden, unexpected movement of dark shapes you had convinced yourself were floating logs. At this time, not yet wearied, describe how the four of you interact and get to know one another better... and whoever is leading the charge, please roll a survival check (Mimzy and Mugwort will roll with advantage).
During a short pause, Kaelroc takes some bones left behind from the pup and laces some string around a piece. A makeshift necklace, he presents it to Mender. For your victory.
He thinks of Griselda and her instructions. Wondering.
Little Dragon, do you think these pools will make you stronger? Facing up at the broom, Or you Mimzy? He continues to slowly push the ice block through the marsh.
You hear Kaelroc muttering... Vanua has clearly had his way with this marsh.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As the pup pins a feathered wing under his meaty paw and begins to tear it apart Mimzy uses her Eldritch Invocation Beast Speech Speak with Animals to scold it, "hey furball if you want to be part of this pack, you're going to check with the pack leader,"she said at pointing Kaelroc, "before you just start digging in like that. Next time and there after you sit down in front of the food and stare at the big guy until he gives you permission."The Fairy indicated wanting to teach the beast proper pack manners hopefully prevent it from eating something it shouldn't in future as there are lot of poisonous things in the swamp best to avoid. Then she moved about the general area to see if there were salvable feathers that hadn't chewed on, etc. and gathers up any she may find.
Later as Kaelroc something about pools will making her or the green bean stronger, Mimzy just smirked and cryptically replied, "let's hope not."
Mender would take the necklace from kaelroc, carefully plucking a few pieces of meat and the odd feather still attached to the bones. "Thank you! This will look nice next to my other necklaces! I am getting quite the collection." he would say as he places it around his neck. The bones cover the mundane necklace given to him by Mimzy's mother and lay around the ornate conch shell that stands out proud in the center of his chest. "I think the pools are magical.. and I am pretty sure they act like gateways..... I don't think that the pool itself will make me more powerful." Mender would reply and he looks down to the shell around his neck. "But if we can remove the evil that is keeping my Marid from returning home.. then he can make me more powerful" The kobold would pause before looking back up towards the goliath. "And then I can return home and free my friends and family... and my whole island."
When floating through the water, Mender is often taking notes on the new surroundings in his book or reading the seemingly infinite amount of information recorded within. Occasionally he would take the time to refreeze the boat and will cast shape water to make the murky dark water crystal clear in an attempt to get a better look at some of the strange shapes moving through the water.
He would also talk about fishing with his older brother and tell stories of his time with Ragmar, the brass dragon that ruled his island. He may even toss his net off the back of the boat on occasion to see if he can catch some fresh fish for them to snack on once they get to dry land.... (If anyone wants to RP those conversations I can but otherwise I am just trying to describe how we interract as we go.)
The cub whimpers in an ashamed manner and shuffles backward, a few down feathers stuck between his teeth. You are able to salvage some of the finer plumage, which you reckon could be fashioned into a luxurious fairy-sized cloak - or perhaps even sold! Additionally, with a survival of 19, you are able to navigate this part of the swamp with ease...

Mender...
Recounting your past you inadvertently open an emotional Pandora's Box, suddenly stung by nostalgia, home-sickness and grief over Ragmar's passing you had until now suppressed. Still, there are many interests here to distract yourself with. Using shape water, you periodically dissipate the lake's murk and reveal - much to your surprise - an abundance of gigantic bespeckled fish, each at least four feet in length.
If you wish to attempt to catch one, roll an animal handling check in the chat.

All...
After several hours of less-than-comfortable travel (some buttocks are unfortunate enough to be frozen stiff by the impromptu ice vessel), firmer ground is in sight. Before you, hills dot the marsh like curdles in milk, their stony outcrops casting long, foreboding shadows. Narrow valleys wind in between, overgrown by gnarled and leafless trees. As you grow nearer, the mist parts just enough for the twinkle of some distant object in the sunlight to catch your eyes...
Seeing size of the fish lurking just below the water, he would motion to Mugwort and Mimzy to bring him his fishing tackle. Once he was handed the equipment, he would smile wide and quickly assemble his rod. "Thanks! I'm going to catch us something delicious! You just wait!" He would say excitedly as he retrieved a heavy looking lure that resembled a worm. After casting it out into the water a few times and allowing it to trail behind the icy raft, he eventually shook his head and swapped it out for a brightly colored fly tie. After casting it back out and jigging it behind the raft for a few moments, the fish hit the line like a hammer. The small kobold was nearly pulled off the back of the raft, prompting him to dig his clawed feet into the ice below. the rod bent wildly and the kobold swayed from side to side as the fish fought under the murky water. Occasionally the fish would leap from the water, sending a spray of liquid over the kobold and goliath. After an exciting battle that lasted a little more than five minutes, the fish seemed to wear itself out. The rod continued to bend as Mender reeled the fish in and eventually used his net to secure his catch. After struggling to get the beast into the boat, he looked to Kaelroc and gave him a smile. "Hey, do you think you could help me get this into the boat?" He would ask inbetween exhausted breaths.
Assuming the goliath helps him with the fish, Mender would let out a sigh and take a seat on top of his catch, looking down at his prize. "What a beauty! This is great! I couldn't have got it in without your help Worm..." The large smile on his face would quickly fade as he looked from the fish to Kaelroc. "Sorry, I mean Kaelroc... Worm's my brothers name." he would add, looking quite deflated.
"He's back home... on the island. Hopefully he's still alive." Mender would reply with a somber look. He would shake his head slightly and remove his hat before using it to wipe some of the splashed water from his face. "He uhh... ha... He taught me how to Fish and how to read... We used to go fishing togetbher almost every day. Without his help I would have never managed to make friends with Ragmar. He taught me that being polite and using my head were two of the best ways to solve problems and to get what I wanted. He wasn't afraid to use strength though when he had to... I just hope he hasn't decided to try to use strength yet back home... Between Draxor, Grim, and the dawn traitor blue scales... I don't think he would have a chance.. even if he was able to convince the remaining loyal kobolds to join him."
Mender would pause and wipe some new water from his face with his hat before forcing a toothy smile. "But Hey! no worries right! Once we find that spirit portal I'll be able to fix everything." The kobold would then look away, focusing on packing up his fishing tackle... working quickly following a process that you assume he has done probably thousands of times before. "When are we going to get to that ruin anyway.. Seems like it is taking forever right?" He would say with a small laugh, trying ti change the subject and redirect his mind from back home.
Mimzy loves fish and flits over to bet a better look at it! "That's going to make for a tasty dinner, we're going to need set up camp and start cooking."
"I'm excited to get this beauty cooked up.. But it's on ice I suppose if we wanted to wait until it gets closer to nightfall" Mender would say with a smile as he wipes his face once more before placing his hat on his head.

Woah, did you guys see that this raft was completely made of ice?!?

Looking at Mimzy fluttering above the raft examining the beautiful fish. Kaelroc ponders upon Menders word and goes into deep thought.
After a long pause he interrupts the two little warriors.
Do you wish for me to push us ashore so that we can have earth beneath our feet again? He speaks to the vessel's passengers.
