After investigating this place for a little over five minutes, you are startled by a sudden, piercing chime which reverberates through the nook. Eardrums splitting, I need you both to roll a DC 20 CHA save.
~~
Mimzy...
Dropping your disguise, the eagle's eyes suddenly train on you. As he beats his mighty wings to approach, you are buffeted by the powerful gusts they generate. His feathered form nigh-eclipses the sun behind.
In a menacingly cold and controlled tone, he addresses you. "Speak then, fey. What is it you wish?"
When you respond, roll a persuasion check with advantage due to your cordial approach and subtle healing convincer (as well as the fact that, historically, avian creatures and faeries exist on relatively good terms).
Mugwort has been slowly floating in a spiral not far from Mender and Kaelroc as well as moving vertically up and down to keep an eye on the enormous avian that is above him (and this area).
Muttering under his breathe, "Come on Mimzy... I believe in you and your charming wiles."
((( Does Mugwort 'hear' some echoes of the chime on the ground? If so, he will suddenly stop in the air and begin turning down and toward his companions. )))
Realizing what the slime is... Mender moves to pull the tiny sending stone from his jacket. Before he is able to do so however he quickly grabs his ears after the loud loud chime threatens to destroy his hearing....
You are too far by now to hear the chime, and besides, are too invested in Mimzy's interaction (the fairy looks as though she may be standing on thin ice, or whatever the fey-equivalent phrase might be).

"Thank you great one, I only desire your permission for myself and my companions to explore as we pass through your hunting grounds in peace in our investigation into a matter involving the portals as well as the looming threat and the cause of the alarming rise in abominations in this region and the entire swamp. Those who are dying or changing, altered, poisoned, and diseased. No doubt you've feasted upon flesh of late that is not as it once was. That is all that I desire nothing more however I would be most appreciative of any information and assistance that you may choose to provide of your own accord. Now great one, how might I be of service to you?"The Fairy quickly and respectfully explained!
Mugwort continues his slow circling -- a bit puzzled at seeing Mimzy 'suddenly appear' near that large avian creature. 'Interesting,' he thinks to himself. 'I can only guess that she is having success to show herself that soon. Perhaps she can sweet talk the creature into telling us about the area so we don't die. Or, maybe it hopes we die for an easy snack?' At that thought he shivers hard enough to almost unbalance himself on the broom.
The bird's eyes lock with yours, and for a fleeting moment you swear you detect a glimmer of intrigue in their ancient grey depths. After a moment of thought,
"A favor will not be necessary, spriteling. Yours was an inoffensive question, and I have no quarrel with the fey..." he chuckles in a soft tone. "It is with a heavy heart I tell you, the very same plight has been weighing on my mind of late. Something dark been spreading like a plague across the marsh in these recent weeks, and it has indeed affected the prey. This displeases me so very much."
With a sigh, he adds: "I am afraid my knowledge does not extend to portals - we eagles have powerful wings and thus do not bother to meddle with such magic. I can tell you, however, that there are better days and... far, far worse days. Tell me, how long have you been here in Mermosa?"
~~
Kaelroc, Mender...
In an instant, your thoughts go blank as excruciating pain racks your bodies. And then... silence.
You know not what is happening, nor can you possibly understand the nature of the entity currently present... though you do feel a presence, vast, ancient and powerful, attempt to force its way into your consciousnesses. I will create a separate, private chat to detail what occurs next.

I can tell you, however, that there are better days and... far, far worse days. Tell me, how long have you been here in Mermosa?"
Mimzy continued to fly alongside the great bird of prey, "I'm called Mimzy, great one, do you have a name or do you prefer I continue to address you as, great one? I do understand your distress concerning the current state of affairs and I promise that my companions and I shall do all that we can to look into the matter and see that it is made right. As to your question, I've lived here all my life. I was born in the swamp and most likely will end my final days here as well. Although I'm a Fairy I was raised by the hag Griselda and ours can be best described as a tempestuous relationship at best. How long have you made these lands your hunting ground? It is beautiful here in its way and I am eager to explore and learn its secrets."
The eagle halts its spiralling to windhover beside you, mighty wings outstretched and motionless. "My ancestors have ruled these skies for over a hundred years, Mimzy the moth-winged - they are my inheritance, my responsibility, my curse to bear. Like you, I will likely die in this... beautiful... place..." he says wistfully, gazing out over the marsh's misty peaks.
"I am not in the habit of trusting strangers with my true name willy-nilly, but you may refer to me as Deagir. Now, is there anything else Deagir can assist you with, or may he be on his way? For he has been summoned Northward to meet with his kin."
Mimzy nodded, "thank you Deagir I shant keep you any longer. Goodluck and safe journey. If I and my companions discover something then I will do my best to relay the information to you." That said Mimzy returns to the ground to search for her companions.
Mugwort watches as Mimzy flits about the huge avian that, ,moments later, starts gliding away toward the north while Mimzy spiraled down toward the ground. ' I suppose that is a good sign... I hope.' He continued his slow spiral above the trees but below the clouds... trying hard to see what lay ahead.
With a perception of 22, you are able to see a good deal of what lies between you and the tower. As aforementioned, the land dips into a shadowy, craggy valley which stretches on for several miles. What seems to be an abandoned bailey is positioned just beyond, hewn crudely into the steep ledges of distant cliffs and circling the central tower, whose scintillating tip you can now tell is clearly crafted from crystal or glass. You see several beast-like forms slinking through the misty darkness but cannot discern their species nor their size from this distance. There seems to be no immediate threat, though your gut tells you one might present itself in the near future.
With a slight nod of his head, Mugwort agrees with himself that he has seen all he can... for now.
With one final glance at the tower and the glints of light from it's tip, he turns the broom and moves back down to join up with his companions on the ground.
Descending to down into the valley to regroup with Mender and Kaelroc, you arrive at the nook within minutes. Both Mimzy and Mugwort, please roll a perception check.

Hi there! I'm a Christian musician based in Canada :)
Approaching where you had left Mender and Kaelroc, the eerie silence tells both of you something is amiss. You turn the corner into the nook, forced to shield your mouths and noses against the now unbearable stench of flesh. The red wolf cub stands just at the threshold, fur bristling, crouched low against the stony ground. His gaze is fixated on something...
Hearts pounding, you peer inside. Your companions are nowhere to be seen, at least not at first... but as Mimzy's eyes adjust to the darkness, no sooner does she detect a sudden, lurching movement in the alcove to her right than spin around to face it.

Mimzy...
Something moved, you could have sworn it. Or is your mind playing tricks? It really looked as though -
There. There it is again. Some sinuous, slithering thing... what in Tymora's name is it? Would you care to take a closer look?
