Aeleth's keen eyes, enhanced by his mastery of arcane arts, had indeed detected the presence of the goblins lurking within the dense vegetation. Their stealthy movements and the way they kept a watchful eye on the group were clear indicators of their hostile intentions.
"I have seen them," Aeleth replied to Torrga's whisper, his voice calm and steady despite the tense situation. "Their numbers are small, and they seem hesitant to engage us directly. I propose that we use this to our advantage."
Aeleth paused, considering his options carefully. The goblins' presence posed a threat, but he also recognized the opportunity to gain the upper hand in the impending confrontation. With a thoughtful expression, he continued, "Torrga, I believe your martial prowess would be invaluable in this situation. I suggest that you and Lola position yourselves at the front, ready to engage the goblins if they make any overt moves."
Turning to Merric, Aeleth added, "Merric, your keen eyesight and agility will be crucial in keeping an eye on the goblins' movements and providing us with early warning of any attacks. I suggest that you remain concealed behind the wagon, ready to support us from a distance with your ranged attacks."
Finally, Aeleth addressed Lola, his voice imbued with a sense of determination. "Lola, I believe that your strength and leadership will be essential in this endeavor. I propose that you follow my lead as we approach the goblins. We shall maintain a cautious advance, keeping an eye on their movements, and I shall use my magic to disrupt their plans and create an opening for our attack."
With his plan laid out, Aeleth waited for the others to respond, his expression focused and his mind already formulating the next steps. He was ready to face the goblins, confident in the combined skills of his companions and his own mastery of the arcane arts.
“I like this plan!” the halfling approves, standing ready, behind the wagon.
"I'm with you, Aeleth!" Lola stands to her full height and begins to advance.
"If they dare to attack us," Torrga declares, with a menacing expression, advancing together with Lola, "it will be the last mistake of their short lives."
The dwarf and the woman protect Aeleth as they advance towards the goblins.
Seeing you walk towards them, confident, the treacherous little creatures realize that they have been discovered... and also that you don't seem to fear them! For a while they exchange uncertain looks with each other.
In the meantime, you, having arrived at the level of the dead horses, recognize them! They are the horses of Gundren Rockseeker and Sildar Hallwinter!
"Those bastards must have attacked my cousin Gundren!" Torrga then roars.
And just at that moment the goblins find the courage to attack!
Scarred Goblin, who perhaps, considering the scar he has, is the most expert of the four ambushers, proves to be the quickest of reflexes and shoots an arrow in the direction of Lola, the tall and noble mulatto.
The scarred goblin was so focused on aiming for Lola's head, that he exposed himself too much! Merric's aim does not forgive him for this error and the arrow hits him in the head, probably removing part of his frontal bone and leaving him with a serious wound, which bleeds profusely.
Aeleth, witnessing Scarred Goblin's failed attempt to attack Lola and then Merric's swift retaliation, feels a surge of determination. He decides to take an action to cast a spell, specifically Magic Missile.
Damage: 10 (force)
With a focused expression, Aeleth weaves his arcane energies, forming five streaks of magical force that hurtle towards the injured Scarred Goblin. The already wounded goblin cries out in agony as the magical darts tear through his body, collapsing to the ground lifeless. His threat eliminated, Aeleth turns his attention to the remaining goblins, his resolve strengthened by the successful use of his magic.
Seeing Merric and Aeleth eliminate an opponent to the south, Torrga lets out a shout of exaltation and congratulation: "Well done, boys! You showed them! And I won't be any less!"
The dwarf cleric charges at the grinning goblin - whose grin is replaced by a slightly more worried look, as she sees the adventuress charging towards her protected by her shield and wielding a warhammer.
Unfortunately, the vegetation partially obscures the target and the cleric's blow is imprecise - the goblin only needs an agile leap backwards to avoid it.
The surviving goblin to the south, seeing what Aeleth is capable of, runs towards him, growling menacingly as he swings his scimitar overhead, but is forced to move in a curved path to avoid Lola.
The surviving goblin archer begins to tremble even more than before, seeing one of his men torn to pieces and the other engaged in close combat by the bellicose dwarf. With very little conviction, he tries to shoot an arrow at Merric...
Perhaps guided more by luck than skill, the arrow flies precisely towards the halfling... but lands with a loud thud against the corner of the cart, just two fingers away from Merric's eye! If it wasn't for the wagon...
The goblin reached by Torrga, forced to fight in close combat, tries to locate an opening in the dwarf's guard, then launches a rapid slash with his scimitar.
The dwarf, partly worried about the fate of her cousin Gundren, partly frustrated at having just missed the goblin, doesn't even see the insidious slash coming! The curved blade of the scimitar manages to slip under the armpit, where the dwarf's chain mail does not protect, and leaves a deep cut. Torrga groans, feeling the heat of his own blood begin to flow from the wound.
"Torrga!" Lola screams, worried, when she hears her dwarf friend moan in pain - but she doesn't want to leave Aeleth alone against the goblin who has reached him! The imposing woman therefore swings her Greataxe in a wide circle, trying to hit Growling Goblin at her side, as if it were a tree to be cut down.
Merric is annoyed that the Trembling Goblin almost got him, but he is partially hidden by the vegetation... so the halfling prefers to focus on the Growling Goblin, who is in plain sight instead. Quickly Merric nocks an arrow and shoots at the goblin!
